- If the power locking system should fail, you
can still open the fuel tank flap in an emer­
gency ¢
page 202.
-You are well advised not to keep val uables
inside an unatte nded vehicle, v is ible or not.
Even a properly locked vehicle cannot pro­
v ide the security of a safe.
- If the LED in the upper edge of the driver's
door panel comes on for about 30 seconds
after t he vehicle is locked, there is a mal­
funct ion in the power lock ing or the anti­
theft warning system . Have the malf unct io n
cor rected by an authorized Audi dealership
or q ualified repair facility.

Number of keys
You can chec k the number of assigned keys to
your vehicle
r=;, page 11 . This a llows yo u to make
sure yo u have received all of the keys when you
purchase a used vehicle .
Data in the master key
During driving, serv ice and maintenance-re levan t
da ta is cont inuo usly stored on your master key.
You r A udi service adviser can read out this data
and te ll yo u about the work you r vehicle needs.
This applies also to veh icles with convenience
key* .
Personal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own" maste r
k ey . W hen the ignit ion is turned off or when the
vehicle is loc ked, personal conven ience settings
for the following systems are stored and as­
signed to the remote master key.
- Climate control
- Power locking system
- Sea t memory *
- Park ing system*
-Adaptive cr uise control*
- Side assist*
- Drive select*
The stored settings are a utomat ica lly rec alled
when you unlock t he vehicle, when yo u ope n the
doo rs or when yo u turn on the ignition.
A WARNING
- Do not leave you r vehicle unattended with
the key in the ignition lock. Entry by una u­
thor ized persons could endanger you or re­
sult i n theft o r damage the vehicle .
- Do not leave childre n unattended i n the ve­
hicle, especially with access to vehicle keys .
Ungua rded access to the keys provides chil­
dren t he oppor tunity to start the engine
an d/or activa te ve hicl e sys tems s uch as the
powe r windows etc. Unsupervised ope ration
of any vehicle system by children c an res ult
in ser ious injury.

-Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
plete stop . Otherwise the steer ing column
lock could suddenly engage -causing the
risk of an accident .

-The operation of the remote control key can
be temporarily d isrupted by interference
from transmitters in the vicinity of the vehi­
cle work ing in the same frequency range
(e .g. a cell phone, radio equipment).

The vehicle can be locked and un locked at any
door . The remote control key cannot be more
than 1.5 m away from the door handle. It makes
no difference whether the master key is in your
jacket pocket or in your brief case .
If you grip the door handle while locking, this can
adversely affect the locking function.
It is not possible to re-open the door for a b rief
period directly after closing it. This allows you to
ensure that the doors are properly locked.
It depends on the settings in the radio or MMI*
whether the entire vehicle is unlocked or one of
the doors
~ page 36.
A WARNING

@ Tips
If your vehicle has been standing for an ex ­
tended period, please note the following:
- The proximity sensors are deactivated after
a few days to save power. You then have to
pull on the door handle once to unlock the
vehicle and a second time to open the vehi­
cle.
- To p revent the battery from being dis­
charged and to preserve your vehicle's abili­
ty to start for as long as possible, the ener­
gy management system gradua lly switches
off unnecessary convenience functions. It is
possible that you will not be ab le to unlock
your vehicle using these convenience func­
tions .

If you lock the veh icle using the power lock ing
switch , please note the following:
- If a door is open, the veh icle cannot be locked
using the power locking system switch .
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid from
the
outside (increased security, for example
when you are stopped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power locking switch illumi­
nate when a ll the doors are closed and locked .
- Front doors : you can unlock and open the doors
from the inside by pulling on the door handle.
- Rear doors: pull the door handle
once to re­
lease the lock. Pull the handle
again to open
the door .
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activated,
the doors automat ically unlock .
A WARNING ,-
-The power locking switch works with the ig-
n ition off and automatically locks the entire
vehicle when it is actuated.
- On a vehicle locked from the ou tside the
power locking system switch is ino perative.
- Locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get in to the vehicle,
which puts lives at ris k . Do not leave anyone
behind in the vehicle, especially children. ""

partment lid is made of fluorescent materia l to
glow in the dark.
A WARNING
The trunk escape handle is to be used only in
an emergency.

Valet parking
Applies to vehicles: with folding and lockable rear seatbacks
The valet parking feature protects the luggage
comportment from unauthorized access .

You can sw itch the "va let park ing funct ion" on
when someone else is pa rk ing you r vehicle. When
the function is sw itched on, the vehicle can be
driven, locked and un locked using the master
key, but access to the luggage compartment is
not permitted .
• Take the mechanical key ou t of the master key

• Open the glove compartment r::!> page 66 .
• Activate
¢ fig. 38 the "valet parking" feature by
pressing the
! VALET I button. The indicator light
in the switch illuminates.
• Close the glove compartment and lock it with

You can act ivate vario us systems suc h as garage
doors, secur ity systems and home lighting from
inside your vehicle using the garage door opener
(Homelink) . There are three buttons for th is in
the veh icle headliner that can be in used in place
of up to three hand-held transmitters.
To operate systems using the garage door open­
er, the three buttons in the roof headliner must be programmed first .
A WARNING
Make sure no people or objects are in the im­
mediate vi cinity of the equipment when using
or p rogramm ing the ga rage door opener. Peo­
pl e can be injured and ob jects can be dam­
aged i f they are caught in the equipment.

You can adjust the settings for the rear sun shade
so the shade retracts automatically when you se­
lect the reverse gear. To do th is, select the

The current se tting is au­
tomatically stored and assigned to t he remo te
key. The sun shade is extended again as soon as
the vehicle is traveling forward at a speed greater
than 9 mph (15 km/h) if the ignition has not
been switched off in the meant ime.
A WARNING
Whe n lowering or ra is ing the sunshade, make
sure there is nothing in its way and that it has
a free path to travel. This could cause person­
al injury.

- Pressing the button~ several times con­
secut ive ly can t rigger the overload protec­
t ion. The sun shade can only be extended/
retracted again after a brief wait ing per iod .
- The rear window sun shade o nly functions
when the veh icle inter ior is warmer than
14°F (-10°C).

The socket and the electrical accessories con­
nected to it operate on ly when the ignition is
switched on. Incorrect usage can lead to seri­
ous injuries or burns. For this reason, children
should never be left unattended in the veh icle
because this increases the risk of injury.

- Never connect equ ipment that gene rates
electrical current, such as a solar pane l or
battery charger, to the 12-volt socket. This
could damage the ve hicle's electrical sys ­
tem .
- To avoid damag ing the socket, only use
plugs that fit properly .

When the engine is off and accessories are
still plugged in and are on, the vehicle battery
can sti ll be dra ined .
Storing
General overview
A WARNING
-Always remove objects from the instrument
panel. Any items not pu t away cou ld slide
around inside the vehicle wh ile driving or
when accelera ting or when app ly ing the
bra kes or w hen driv ing around a corner.
- When you are dr iv ing make sure that a ny­
t hing yo u may have pla ced i n the cen ter con­
so le or other sto rage locations cannot fall
o ut into the footwells . In case of s udden
brak ing you would not be ab le to brake, de­
press the clutch or accelerate .
-Any pieces of clothing that yo u have hung
up must not interfere with the driver's view .
The coat hooks are designed only for light­
weight cloth ing . Never hang any clothing
with hard , pointed or heavy objects in the
pockets on the coat hooks . Dur ing sudden
brak ing or in an accident -especially if t he
airbag is deployed -these objects could in­
jure any passengers inside the vehicle.

Spi lled ho t liqu id can cause an accident an d
personal injury .
- Never carry any beverage c ontai ners w ith
hot liq uids, such as hot coffee or hot tea, in
t he vehicle whi le i t is movi ng. In case of an
accide nt, sudden brak ing o r other ve hicle
movement, hot liquid co uld spill , ca using
scalding burns. Spilled hot liqu id can also
cause an accident and personal injury.

-When driving with a roo f rack system,
changes to the center of gravity and wind
resistance can change the vehicle handling
and lead to a collision . A lways adapt your
dr iv ing and your speed to the current condi·
t ions .

- Your vehicle warranty does not cover any
damages to the vehicle caused by using roof
racks or mounting structures not approved
by Aud i for your vehicle . The same applies to
damage resulting from incorrect roof rack i nst allation .
- Always check the roof rack mount ings and
hardware befo re each trip and dur ing a tr ip
to make s ure everyt hing is securely tight­
ened.
If necessary, ret ighten the mo unt ings
and check the entire system from time to
time.
- After mounting a roo f rack system, or when
you transport objects on the roof of your ve­
hicle, the height of the veh icle is naturally
i nc reased. Be careful when driving under
l ow bridges or in parking garages for exam­
ple . This could cause damage to the load
and even the vehicle itself.
- Make sure that the open rear lid and the
su nroof do not come into contact with ob·
j ects on the roof .
Loading the roof rack
Always distribute loads evenly. Make sure any ­
thing on the roof rack is securely tied down .

The max imum perm issible roo f weight is
2 00 lb
( 90 kg ).
The roof weight is the total of the
weight of the roof rack, the attachme nts and the
cargo you are carrying . You must also not exceed
the maximum load weight fo r the roof rack yo u
a re using.

When using a roof rack system wh ich has a lower
l oad carrying capacity, you must not use up the
total max imum permissib le load carry ing capac i­
ty specified above. Instead, you should load the
roof rack sys tem only to the maximum capacity
specified by the manufacturer of the roof rack
system.
A WARNING
Weak, damaged or improper straps used to
secure items to the roof rack can fail du ring
hard brak ing or in a collision and cause seri­
ous persona l injury .
- Ma ke sure the roof rack is i nstalled exactly
as spe cified above
~ page 67 .
-Always use suitable mo unt ing straps fo r se·
cur ing items to the roof ra ck to help preven t
items from sh ifting or flying forward .
- Items on the roof rack must a lways be se·
cure ly mounte d.
- The use of a roof rack can negative ly affect
the way a vehicle handles . Cargo that is
large, heavy, b ulk y, long or flat w ill have a
greater negative influence on the vehicle's
aerodynamics, center of grav ity and overa ll
handling . Always drive slowly, avoid sudden
braking and maneuvers when transporting
cargo on the roof of your vehicle .
- Never exceed the maximum permissib le
load carry ing capacity of the roof of your ve­
hicle, the perm iss ible axle weights and the
perm iss ible total we ight of your vehicle
~ page 255, Weights.

Make sure that the opened rear lid does not
come in contact with the cargo on the roof .
@ For the sake of the environment
As a result of the increased wind resistance
created by a roof rack, your vehicle is using
fuel unnecessarily . So remove the roof rack
after using it .

You can only extend and retract the cover in the

• Pull the cover out and attach it in position @in
the mount ing eyelets in the side trim.
Comfort position
In pos ition @, the cover does not need to be re­
moved to unload the luggage compar tment.
Seats and storag e
• To move to position @, tilt the end of the cover
upward from the bottom when the cover is ex­
