Cockpit overview
!?i Engine speed limitation
(ill Maximum engine speed: XXXX rpm
The engine speed is automatically limited to the
speed displayed in the instrument cluster. This
protects the engine from overheating.
The engine speed limitation deactivates once the
engine is no longer in the critical temperature
range and you have released the accelerator pedÂ
al once.
If the engine speed limitation was activated by
an engine control malfunction, the
II indicator
light also turns on. Make sure the engine speed
does not go above the speed displayed, for examÂ
ple when downshifting. Drive to an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility imÂ
mediately to have the malfunction corrected.

• Oil level system: malfunction! Please conÂ
tact Service
The sensor to check the engine oil level has
failed. Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or auÂ
thorized Audi Service Facility immediately to have
the malfunction corrected.
• Oil level sensor: oil change necessary. Please
contact Service
Fuel has entered the engine oil as a result of freÂ
quent short drives. Avoid high engine speeds, full
acceleration and heavy engine loads. Drive to an
authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service
Facility immediately to have the oil changed .
• Oil pressure sensor: malfunction! Please
contact Service
There is a malfunction in the oil pressure sensor.
Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or authorized

Fuel has entered the engine oil, either from low

Drive until the engine is warm so that the fuel in
the engine oil will evaporate. Avoid high engine speeds, full accelerating and heavy engine loads
when doing this.

gallons (8 liters) of fuel left in the tank.

The light/rain sensor is malfunctioning.
The low beams remain switched on at a ll times
for safety reasons when the light switch is in the
AUTO position. However, you can continue to
turn the lights on and off using the light switch.
You can still contro l all functions that a re indeÂ
pendent of the rain sensor through the wind Â
shield wiper leve r.

Opening and closing
Central locking
Description
You can lock and unlock the veh icle centrally . You
have the following options:
-Remote control key¢ page 40,
-Sensors in the door handles* ¢ page 40,
-Lock cylinder on the driver's door c::> page 42,
or
-Interior central locking switch c::> page 41.
Turn signals
The turn s ignals flash twice when you unlock the
veh icle and flash once when you lock the veh icle.
If they do not flash, then one of the doors, the
rear lid or the hood is not closed.
Automatic locking (Auto Lock)
The Auto Lock funct ion locks all doors and the
luggage compartment lid once the speed has
exÂ
ceeded approximately 9 mph (15 km/h).
The vehicle can be unlocked if the opening funcÂ
tion in the central locking system sw itch is used
or one of the door handles is pulled.
In the event of a crash with airbag deployment,
the doors will a lso automat ically unlock to allow
access to the vehicle.
Selective door unlocking
The doors and luggage compartment lid will lock
when they close . You can set in the Infotainment
system whether
only the driver's door or the enÂ
tire vehicle should be unlocked when unlocking
c::> page 41.
Unintentionally locking yourself out
Only lock your vehicle when all of the doors and
the luggage compartment lid are closed and the remote control key is not in the vehicle . This
helps to prevent you from locking yourse lf out
accidentally .
The follow ing cond it ions prevent you from lockÂ
ing your remote control key in the vehicle:
Opening and closing
-If the driver's door is open, the vehicle cannot
be locked by pressing the
fi'.) button on the reÂ
mote contro l key or by touching the locking
sensor* on a door.
-If the most recently used convenience key* is
detected in the luggage compartment, the lugÂ
gage compartment lid automatically unlocks
again after closing it.
-If the convenience key* that was last used is deÂ
tected inside the vehicle, then the vehicle will
not be able to lock from the outside .

-When you lock your vehicle from outs ide,
nobody- espec ially children
-should rema in
inside the vehicle. Remember, when you
loc k the vehicle from the outside the winÂ
dows cannot be opened from the inside .
- When you leave the vehicle, always take the
ignit ion key with yo u. This will prevent pasÂ
sengers (children, for examp le) from acciÂ
dentally being locked in the vehicle should
they accidentally press the power locking
switch in the doors.
- Do not leave children inside the vehicle
unÂ
supervised. In an emergency it would be imÂ
possible to open the doors from the outside
without the key.
(D Tips
-Do not leave valuables unattended in the veÂ
hicle. A locked vehicle is not a safe!
-The LED in the driver's door rail blinks when
you lock the vehicle. If the LED lights up for
approximately 30 seconds after locking,
there is a malfunction in the central locking
system. Have the problem corrected by an
authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility.

Replacing a key
If a key is lost, see an authorized Audi dealer or
authorized Audi Service Facility. Have
this key deÂ
activated .
It is important to bring all keys with
you .
If a key is lost, you should report it to your
insu rance company.
Number of keys
You can check the number of keys assigned to
your vehicle in the Infotainment system . To do
this, select the
IM ENU I button > Vehicle > left
control button
> Service & checks> Vehicle in·
formation . This way, you can make sure that you
have all the keys when purchasing a used vehicle.
Electronic immobilizer
The immob ilizer prevents unauthorized use of
the vehicle .
Under certain circumstances, the vehicle may not
be able to start if there is a key from a different
veh icle manufacturer on the key chain.

Data in the master key
When dr iving, service and maintenance-re levant
data is continuously stored in your remote conÂ
trol key. Your A udi service advisor can read out
this data and tell you about the work your vehicle needs . This applies also to vehicles with a conÂ
venience key*.
Personal convenience settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own" master
key . When the ign ition is turned off or when the
vehicle is locked, personal convenience settings
for the following systems are stored and asÂ
s igned to the remote master key.
- Climate control system
-Steering wheel heating*
-Central lockin g system
-Interior lighting*
-Exter ior lighting
- Rain sensor
- Memory function*
- Park ing a id *
-Adaptive cr uise control *
-Active lane assist*
-Side assist*
-Traff ic jam assist*
- Distance warning*
-Audi pre sense*
- Speed warning *
The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, open the doors or
turn on the ignition .
~ WARNING
Always take the vehicle key with you when
leaving the vehicle, even for a short period of
time. This applies particularly when children
rema in in the vehicle . Otherwise the children
could start the engine or operate electrical
equipment such as power windows .

-The operation of the remote control key can
be temporarily disrupted by interference
from transmitters near the veh icle work ing

You can u nlock/ lock the vehicle at every door.
The remote control key cannot be more than apÂ
proximately 4 feet (1.5 m) away from the door
handle. It makes no difference whether the masÂ
ter key is in your jacket pocket or in your briefÂ
case, for example .
If you hold the door handle while locking, this
can impair the locking function.
The doo r cannot be opened for a br ief period diÂ
rect ly after locking it. This way you have the opÂ
portunity to check if the doors locked correctly.
The settings in the Infotainment system deterÂ
mine if the entire vehicle or on ly one of the doors
is unlocked when unlocking the vehicle
c::> pag e 41.

@ Tips
If your vehicle is left standing for a long periÂ
od of time, note the following:
-The energy management system grad ually
turns off unnecessary convenience functions
to prevent the vehicle battery from draining
and to mainta in the vehicle's ab ility to start
for as long as possible. You may not be able
to unlock your vehicle us ing the convenience
key .

light) .

when all doors are closed and locked .
- You ca n open the doors individua lly from the
inside by pu lling the doo r handle.
- In the event of a crash with a irbag deploymen t,
the doo rs unlock automat ica lly to allow access
t o the vehicle .

- The central locking switch a lso works when
the ignition is switched off and automatica lÂ
ly locks the entire vehicle when the

-The central locking switch is inope rative
when the vehicle is locked from the outs ide.
-Locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the vehicle,
which puts lives at r isk. Do not leave anyone
behind in the vehicle, especially children.

Setting the central locking system
In the Infotainment system, you can set which
doors the central locking system will unlock .

luggage compartment lid also unlocks when All
is selected. If you select Driver 's door in a vehicle
with a convenience key*, only the door whose handle you pull will unlock.
If you select
Driver's door , all the doors and lugÂ
gage compartment lid will unlock if you press the
m button on the remote control key twice .
Disable rear lid handle -If you select On, the
luggage compartment lid hand le is locked. In
this case, the l uggage compartment lid can be
opened with the
c::$ button on the remote con Â
trol key or w ith the
c::$ button in the driver's
door. In vehicles with a convenience key*, you can
still open the luggage compartment lid using the
handle if an author ized remote control key is
near the proximity sensor* .
Fold mirrors * -if you select On , the exterior rearÂ
view mirrors fold in automatica lly when you press
the~ button on the remote control key or touch
the sensor* in the hand le .
Tone when locking1> -if you select On , a tone
will sound when you lock the vehicle.

the front passenger's door and the rear doors. It

luggage compartment lid will either open or
close, depending on its angle .
_&. WARNING
-After closing the luggage compartment lid,
make sure that it is latched. Otherwise the
luggage compartment lid could open sudÂ
denly when driving, which increases the risk
of an accident.
- Pay careful attent ion when closing the lugÂ
gage compartment lid . Otherw ise, you could
cause serious inj ury to yourself or othe rs deÂ
spite the pinch protection .
- To reduce the risk of p inch ing injur ies, alÂ
ways make sure that no one is in the operatÂ
ing area of the luggage compartment lid; inÂ
cluding the hinge areas and the upper and
lower edge of the luggage compartment lid .
- Never dr ive with the luggage compartmen t
lid ajar or open, because poisonous gases
can enter the vehicle interior and create the
risk of asphyxiation.
- If there is a luggage rack (such as a bicycle
rack) on the luggage compartment lid, the
luggage compartment lid may not open
completely under certain circumstances or it
could close by itself if open due to the extra
weight. To reduce the r isk of injury, the
open luggage compartment l id must thereÂ
fore have add itiona l support or the cargo
must first be removed from the rack.

Openin g an d clos ing
-There are audio signa ls when closing the
luggage compartment lid with the remote
control key (vehicles with convenience key*)
or with
the~ button in the dr iver's door.
- When the vehicle is locked, the luggage
compartment lid can be unlocked separately
by pressing
the~ button on the remote
control key. The luggage compartment lid
locks automatically when it is closed again.
- Applies to: vehicles with convenience key:
The luggage compartment lid can be closed
w ith the convenience from a distance up to
approximately 9 ft (3 m).
- The luggage compartment lid can be operÂ
ated manually if the vehicle battery is low.
It is necessary to use more force when doing
this. Move the lid s low ly to reduce the
amount of fo rce needed.
- When the t railer socket is being used (for
example, for a bicycle rack), the luggage
compar tment lid can be opened a nd closed
using the handle or the foot mot ion activaÂ
tion (vehicles w ith convenience key*) .
- In case of an emergency o r a fau lty handle,
the luggage compartment lid can be opened
manually from the
insider=> page 46.

_& WARNING
-Always take the vehicle key with you when
leaving the vehicle, even for a short period
of time . This applies particularly when chilÂ
dren remain in the vehicle . Otherwise chilÂ
dren could start the engine or operate e lecÂ
trical equipment (such as power windows),
which increases the risk of an accident . The
power windows continue to function until
the driver's door or front passenger's door
has been opened.
- Pay careful attent ion when closing the winÂ
dows . Pinching could cause serious injuries .
- When locking the vehicle from outside, the vehicle must be unoccupied since the winÂ
dows can no longer be opened in an emerÂ
gency .
@ Tips
You can still open and close the w indows for
approximately 10 minutes after turning the
ignition
off . The power windows do not switch
off until the driver's door or front passenger's
door has been opened.
Convenience opening/closing

All of the windows and the roof* con be opened/
closed at the some time .
Convenience opening feature
.. Press and hold the CD button on the remote conÂ
trol key until all of the windows reach the deÂ
sired position and the
roof* is tilted open.
Convenience closing feature

until the roof* is closed

of the windows and the roof* are closed. Do not
place your hand in the door handle when doing

- To reduce the r isk of injury, never close the
windows or the roof* carelessly or in an unÂ
controlled manner .
- For secur ity reasons, the windows and the
roof* can only be opened and closed with
the remote control key at a maximum disÂ
tance of approx imately 6.5 feet (2 m) away
from the vehicle. Always pay attent ion when
using
the@ button to close the windows
and the roof* so that no one is pinched. The
closing process will stop immediately when
the@ button is released.
(D Tips
Applies to: vehicles with panorama glass roof:
the power sunshade also opens/closes when
opening/closing the roof.
Correcting power window malfunctions
You can reactivate the one-touch up/down funcÂ
tion if it malfunctions.
"' Pull the power window switch up until the winÂ
dow is comple tely raised .

least one second.

Adap tive ligh t provides be tter visibility when it i s
dark by adapting the ligh ts to the road conditions
based on speed, such as on expressways, r ura l
roads, at intersections, and in curves. The adap Â
tive light only functions when the light switch is

assist the driver. They do not relieve the
driver of responsib il ity to check the headÂ
lights and to t urn them on manua lly ba sed
on t he curre nt ligh t and v is ibility conditions.
F or examp le, fog cannot be detec ted by the
light sensors. So always switch on the low
beams under these weather condit ions and
when dr iv ing in the dark
fD .
- The rear fog lights shou ld only be turned on
in accordance w ith traffic regulations, to
prevent glare for traffic behind your vehicle.
- Always observe legal regulat ions when usÂ
ing the lighting systems desc ribe d.

- Th e light sensor for the a utomat ic he ad Â
lights * is in the rearview mir ror mount. Do
not p lace any stickers in this area on the
w indshield.
- A warning tone will sound if yo u ope n the
door when the exte rior lights a re switched
on.
- On ly the front headlights turn on when t he
daytime running lights are switched on* . In
vehicles in certain markets, t he tail lights
w ill also t urn on.
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of the
head lights, t urn signa ls and ta il lig hts can
fog over due to the temperature difference between the inside and outside. They w ill
clear shortly afte r switching them on. This
does not affect the service life of t he lightÂ
mg.
