Front passenger's seat
Always move the front passenger seat into the rearmost position .
To avoid contac t with the airbag wh ile i t is de­
p loying, do not sit a ny closer to the inst rument
panel than necessary and always wear the three­
point safety belt provided adj usted correctly. We
recommend that you adjust the passenger's seat
in the following manner:
• Bring the back rest up to an (a lmost) upright
position .
Do not ride with the seat reclined .
• Applies to vehicles with adjustable head re ­
stra ints: Adjust the head restra int so the upper
edge is as even as possible with the top of your
head.
If that is not possible, try to adjust the
head restraint so that it is as close to this pos i­
t io n as poss ible

• Place your feet on the f loor in front of the p as­

do this while the ve hicle is moving , you will
be out of position. Always adjust the d river's
or front passenger's seat when the vehicle is
not moving.

- Because t he seats can be e lectrically adjust­
ed w it h the ignition off or w ith the ignition
key removed, never leave children unattend­

tect ion when the bac krest is upright and the
safety belts are prope rly positioned on the
body. The more the backrest is reclined, the
greater t he risk of personal injury from an
incorrect seating posit io n and improperly
positioned safety belts.

Memory function
Description
App lies to vehicles: with memory f unction
The memory function allows you to quickly and
eas ily store and recall pe rsonal seating p rofi les
fo r the driver. The memory function is ope rated
th rough the maste r key and the memory bu ttons
in the driver's door .
The driver's seati ng p rofile is stored and assigned
to the master key each t ime the vehicle is locked .
When yo u open the door, the seat profile is auto­
matically recalled. If two people use one vehicle,
i t is recommended that each person always uses
"their own" master key .
Up to 2 seat profi les can be stored in the memory
buttons in the d river's door. Once they are stored,
these seat profiles can be selected at any time .

In addition to the d river 's seat settings, you can
also store and access the exterior mirror adjust­
ment settings* using the remote control key or
memory button.

The cigarette lighter only works when the ig­
nition is sw itched on. Incorrect usage can lead
to ser ious injuries or burns. For this reason,
children should never be left unattended in
the vehicle because this increases the risk of
injury.

connect electrical accessories to it .
Storing
General overview
_& WARNING
- Always remove objects from the instrument
panel. Any items not put away could slide
around inside the vehicle while dr iv ing or
when accelerating or when applying the brakes or when dr iv ing aro und a corner .
- When you a re driv ing make sure that a ny­
thing yo u may have placed in the ce nter con­
so le or ot her storage locations can not fall
o ut into the footwells. In case of sudden

braking you would not be ab le to brake, de­
press the clutch or accelerate.
- Any pieces of clothing that you have hung
up must not interfere with the driver's view .
The coat hooks are designed only for light­
weigh t clothing. Never hang any cloth ing
w ith ha rd, pointed or heavy objects in the
pockets on the coat hooks. During sudden
braking or in an accident -espec ially if the
airbag is deployed -these objects cou ld in­
jure any p assengers inside the vehicle.

Closing cupholders
• To close the cupholder, press on the center sec­
tion between the two arms and push the cu­
pholder in the slot as far as it will go.
.&_ WARNING
Spilled hot liquid can cause an accident and
personal injury.
- Never carry any beverage containers with
hot liquids, such as hot coffee or hot tea, in
the vehicle while it is moving. In case of an
accident, sudden braking or other vehicle
movement, hot liquid could spill, causing
scalding burns . Spil led hot liquid can also
cause an accident and personal injury.
- Use only soft cups in the cupholder. Hard
cups and glasses can cause injury in an acci­
dent .
- Never use the cupholder or adapter as an
ashtray - risk of fire.
(y Note
Only drink containers with lids should be car­
r ied in the cupholder . Liquid could spill out
and damage your vehicle's electronic equip­
ment or stain the upholstery, etc.
Glove compartment
The glove compartment is illuminated and can
be locked .

glove compartment lid upward until the lock
engages .
The glove compartment can be locked using the

On the right side in the glove compartment is a
holder with the key body into which the emergen­
cy key must be clipped to be able to start the ve­
hicle.
A WARNING
-
To reduce the risk of personal injury in an acci-
dent or sudden stop, always keep the glove
compartment closed while driving.
Additional storage
There are a variety of storage compartments and
fasteners in various places in the vehicle .
- In the roof headliner above the rearview mirror.
- On the back of the front seat . The compart -
ment can hold a maximum weight of 1 kg.
- On the left and right of the luggage compart­
ment, behind the side trim .
- Garment hooks on the pillars in the rear of the
vehicle.
A WARNING ,..___
- When driving, do not leave any hard objects
on the rear window shelf or allow your pet
to sit on the shelf. They could become a haz­
ard for vehicle occupants in the event of
sudden braking or a crash .
- Always remove objects from the instrument
panel. Any items not stored could slide
around inside the vehicle whi le driving or
when accelerating or when apply ing the
b rakes or when driving around a corner.
- When you are driving make sure that any­
thing you may have placed in the center con­
sole or other storage locations cannot fall
out into the footwells. In case of sudden
braking you would not be able to brake or
accelerate.
- Any articles of clothing that you have hung
up must not interfere with the driver's view .

A WARNING
- The backrest must always be secure ly latc h­
ed so that the safety belt of the center seat­
ing position can work proper ly to help pro­
tect the occupant.
- The backrest must be securely latched in po­
sition so that no items contained in the lug­
gage compartment can slide forward upon
sudden b rak ing .
- Always check whether the latch is fully en­
gaged by pu lli ng the seatback forward .
- Never a llow safety belts to become dam­
aged by be ing caught i n door or seat hard­
ware.
- Torn or frayed safety be lts can tear and
damaged be lt hardwa re can b reak in a crash .
I nspect the belts periodically. Belts show ing
damage to webbing, bindings, buckles, or
retractors must be re placed.

- If you move the front seat back when the
rear seat backrest is folded forward, you
cou ld damage the head res traints on the
rear se at.
- Slide the be lt g uide on the o utside safety
belt all t he way up befo re folding the back­
res t back forw ard. Make sure t he se at belt is
no t pin ched or damaged when the rear seat
backrest if folded back. Other objects
should be removed from the rear seat bench
to protect the seatback from damage.

Safety belts
_& WARNING
Not wearing safety bel ts or wearing them im­
properly increases the risk of serious personal
injury and death . Safety belts can work only
when used correctly .
- Always fasten your safety belts correctly be­
fore driv ing off and make sure al l passen­
gers are correctly restrained.
- For maximum protection, safety belts must
always be pos itioned properly on the body .
- Never strap more than one person, includ ­
ing small ch ild ren, into any belt .
- Never place a safety belt over a child sitting
on your lap .
- Always keep feet in the footwell in front of
the seat wh ile the vehicle is be ing driven .
- Never let any person ride with their feet on
the instrument panel or st icking out the
window or on the seat .
- Never
remove a safety belt while the vehicle
is moving . Doing so will increase your risk of
being in jured or killed .
- Never wear belts twisted .
- Never wear belts
over rigid or breakable ob-
jects in or on your cloth ing, such as eye
glasses, pens, keys, etc ., as these may cause
i njury .
- Never allow safety belts to become dam­
aged by being caught in door or seat hard ­
ware.
- Do not wear the shoulder part of the belt
under your arm or otherwise out of position .
- Several layers of heavy clothing may inter­
fere w ith correct pos itioning of belts and re ­
duce the overall effectiveness of the system.
- Always keep belt buckles free of anything
that may prevent the buckle from latching
securely .
- Never use comfort clips or devices that cre­
ate slack in the shoulder belt. However, spe­
c ial clips may be required for the proper use
of some child restraint systems.
- Torn or frayed safety belts can tear, and
damaged belt hardware can break in an acci­
dent . Inspect belts regularly. If webb ing,
bind ings, buckles, or re tractors are dam-

aged, have belts replaced by an authorized
Audi dea ler.
- Safety belts that have been worn and loaded
in an accident must be rep laced with the
correct replacement safety belt by an au­
thorized Audi dealer. Replacement may be necessary
even if damage cannot be clearly
seen . Anchorages that were loaded must al­
so be inspected.
- Never
remove, modify, d isassemble, or try
to repair the safety belts yourself .
-Always keep the belts clean . Dirty belts may
not work properly and can impair the func­
tion of the inert ia reel

Automatic safety belt retractors
Every safety belt is equipped with an automatic
belt retractor on the shoulder belt. This feature
locks the belt when the belt is pulled out fast,
during hard braking and in an accident . The belt
may also lo ck when you drive up or down a steep
hill or through a sharp curve. During normal driv­
ing the belt lets you move freely.
Safety belt pretensioners
The safety belts are equipped with a belt preten­
sioner that helps to tighten the safety belt and
remove slack when the pretensioner is activated.
The function of the pretensioner is monitored by
a warning light

Convertible locking retractor
Every safety belt except the one on the driver
seat is equipped with a convertible locking retrac­
tor that
must be used when the safety belt is
used to attach a child safety seat. Be sure to read
the important information about this feature

Safety belt position.
- Safety belts offer optimum protection only
when the seatback is upright and belts are
properly positioned on the body.
- Never attach the safety belt to the buckle
for another seat. Attaching the belt to the
wrong buckle will reduce safety belt effec­
tiveness and can cause serious personal in­
jury.
- A passenger who is not properly restrained
can be seriously injur ed by the safety belt it­
self when it moves from the stronger parts of the body into critical areas like the abdo­
men.
- Always lock the convertible locking retractor
when you are securing a child safety seat in
the vehicle

Correct belt position is the key to getting maxi­
mum protection from safety belts.

Standard features on your vehicle help you adjust
the position of the safety belt to match your body
size.
- height-adjustable front seats .
& WARNING
Improperly positioned safety belts can cause
serious personal injury in an accident.
- The shoulder belt should lie as close to the
center of the collar bone as possible and
should fit well on the body. Hold the belt
above the latch tongue and pull it evenly
across the chest so that it sits as low as pos­
sible on the pelvis and there is no pressure
on the abdomen. The belt should always fit
snugly

- The lap belt portion of the safety belt must
be positioned as low as possible across pel­
vis and never over the abdomen. Make sure
the belt lies flat and snug

injuries by shifting its position on your body
from the strong bones to more vulnerable,
soft tissue and cause serious injury.

Airbag syste m
detail below . Because the front passenger seat
contains important parts of the Advanced Airbag
System, you must take care to prevent it from be­ ing damaged. Damage to the seat may prevent
the Advanced Airbag for the front passenger seat
from doing its job in a crash .
The front Ad vanced Airb ag System con sis ts
of the follow ing :
-Crash sensors in the front of the veh icle that
measure veh icle acceleration/decelerat ion to
provide information to the Advanced Airbag
System about the severity of the crash .
- An electronic control unit, with integrated crash sensors for front and side impacts. The
control un it "decides" whether to fire the front
airbags based on the informa tion rece ived from
the crash sensors. The con trol un it also "de­
cides" whether the safety be lt pretensioners
shou ld be activated.
- An Advanced Airbag wi th gas generator and
control valve for the driver inside the steering
whee l hub.
- An Advanced Airbag with gas generator and
control va lve inside the instrument panel for
the front passenger.
- A weight -sensing mat under the upholste ry
padding of the front passenger seat cushion
that measures the total weight on the seat. The information registered is sent continuously to
the electronic control un it to regu late dep loy­
ment of the front Advanced Airbag on the pas­
senger side.
- An airbag monitoring system and indicator
light in the instrument cluster

-A sensor in each front seat registers the dis­
tance between the respect ive seat and the
steering wheel or instrument panel. The infor­
mation registered is sent cont inuously to the
electron ic co ntro l unit to regulate deployment
of the front Advanced Airbags.
- T he
PA SSENGER AIR B AG OFF light comes on
and stays on in the center of the instrument
pane l

the front Advanced A irbag on the passenger
side has been turned off.
- A sensor below the safety belt la tch for the
front seat passenge r to measure the tension on

the front a irbag for the front passenger seat
should be turned

- A sensor in the safety belt latch for the driver
and for the front seat passenger that senses
whether that safety belt is latched or not and transm its this info rmat ion to the elect ro ni c
cont ro l unit .

Damage to the fron t passenger seat can pre­
vent the front a irbag from working properly.
- I mproper repa ir or d isassembly of the front
passenger and driver seat will p revent the
Advanced Airbag System from functioning properly.
- Repairs to the front passenge r seat must be
performed by qualified and properly trained
wo rkshop personne l.
- Never remove the front passenger o r driver
seat from the vehicle .
- Never remove the upho lstery from the front
passenger seat.
- Never d isassemble o r remove par ts from the
seat or disconnect w ires from it.
- Never carry sharp obje cts in yo ur pocke ts or
place them on the seat. If the weight-sens­
ing mat in the passenger seat is p unctured
it cannot work properly.
- Never carry things on you r lap or carry ob­
jects on the passenger seat. S uch items can
increase the weight registe red by the
weight-sensing mat and send the wrong in­ formation to the airbag contro l unit.
- Never store items under the front passenger
seat. Parts of the Advanced Airbag System
under the passenger seat could be dam­
aged, preventing them and the airbag sys­
tem from wo rking prope rly.
- Never p lace seat covers or rep lacement up­
holstery that have not been specifically ap­
proved by Audi on the front seats.
- Seat covers can prevent the Advanced Air­ bag System from recogniz ing ch ild

ment cluster display . Th is is to inform the driver
of the current front passenger ai rbag status.
Important safety instructions on
monitoring the Advanced Airbag System
A WARNING
An airbag system that is not funct ioning prop­
erly cannot provide supplementa l protect ion
in a frontal crash.
- If the airbag indicato r light ~ page 19
comes when the vehicle is be ing used, have
the system inspected immed iate ly by your
authorized Audi dealer . It is possible that
the a irbag will inflate when it is not s up­
posed to, or wi ll not inflate when it should.
A WARNING
If the front airbag inflates, a ch ild without a
child restraint, in a rearward-facing child safe­
ty seat or in a forward-facing child restraint that has not been proper ly installed will be
ser iously injured and can be killed.
- Even though your veh icle is equipped with
an Advanced Airbag System, make certa in
that all ch ild ren, especially 12 years and
Airbag syste m
younger, a lways ride on the back seat prop­
erly restra ined for their age and size.
- Always install forward o r rear-facing child
safety seats on the rear seat -even with an
Advanced Airbag System.
- If you must install a rearward-facing child
safety seat on the front passenger seat be­
cause of except iona l circumstances and the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does not
appear and stay on, immediately install the
rea r-facing chi ld safety seat in a rear seating
position and have the airbag system inspect­
ed by your authori zed Audi dealer .
- A tight tether or o ther s trap on a rea rward­
facing ch ild restraint attached to the front
p assenger seat can put too much pressure
on the weight-sens ing mat in the seat and
register more weight than is actually on the
seat. The heavier weight registe red can
make the system work as though an adult
were on the seat and deploy the Advanced
Airbag when it must be suppressed causing
serio us or even fatal injury to the child.
- If, in exceptiona l circumstances, you must
install a forward-facing child restraint on
the front passenger seat, always move the seat into its rearmost pos ition in the seat's
fore and aft ad justmen t range, as fa r away
from the airbag as possib le. The b ackrest
m ust be adjus ted to an upr ight position.
Make sure that the
PASSENGER AIR BAG
OFF
li ght comes on and stays on all the time
whenever the ignit ion is switched on.
A WARNING

- If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF light does
not go out when an adult is s itting on the
front passenger seat after tak ing the steps
described above, make sure the adult is
p roperly seated and restrained at one of the
rea r seat ing pos itions.
- Have the airbag system inspected by your
author ized Audi dealer befo re transpo rting
anyone on the front passenger seat.
