• Pull the r eversible blade from the sc rewdriver before you use the
hexagon al socke t in the h an dl e to tur n t he whee l bolts.
• When mounting tires with
unidirectional tread design make sure
t he t read p attern is po inte d the rig ht way =:>
page 326.
• The wheel bo lts shou ld be clean and easy to turn. Check for dirt
and cor rosion on the mat ing surfa ces of both the whee l and the hub.
Remove all d irt from these surfaces before remounting the whee l.•
Tires with unidirectional tread design
Tires with unidirectional tread design must be mounted
with their tread pattern pointed in the right direction.
Using a spare tire with a tread pattern intended for
use in a specific direction
When using a spare tire w ith a tread pattern intended for use in a
spe cific d irec tion, please note the follow ing :
• The direction of rotation is marked by an
arrow on the side of the
tire .
• If the spare tire has to be installed in the incorrect d irect ion, use
t he spare tire only temporari ly since the tire wi ll not be ab le to
achieve its optimum performance characte rist ics with regard to
aquap lan ing, noise and wear.
• We recommend that you pay particular attention to this fact
during wet weather an d that you adjus t you r speed to match road
conditions.
• Rep lace t he fl at t ire w ith a new one and have it ins talled on your
vehicle as soon as possible to restore the handling advantages of a
unidi rectional tire .•
Notes on wheel changing
Please read the in format ion =:> page 307, "New tires and replac ing
t ires and wheels" if yo u are go ing to use a spare ti re wh ich is diffe rent
from the tires on your vehicle .
After you change a tire :
• Che ck the tire pre ssure on the spare immediat ely after installa­
tion .
• Have the wheel bo lt tightening torque checked with a torqu e
wren ch as soon as possible by your autho rized Aud i deale r or a qual ­
ified work shop .
• With steel and all oy wheel rims , the wheel bolts are co rrectly
tightened at a torque of 90 ft lb (120 Nm ).
• If you noti ce that the wheel bolts are corroded and difficult to
turn while changing a tire, they should be rep laced before you chec k
the tightening torque .
• Replace the flat tire with a new one and have it installed on your
v ehicle a s soon a s poss ible. Remount the wheel co ve r.
Until then, drive with extra car e and at reduced speed s.
& WARNING
• If you are going to equip your veh icl e with tires or r ims whi ch
differ from those which were factory installed, then be sure to
read the information =:>
page 307, "New tires and replacing ti re s
and wheels".
• Alw ays make sure the damag ed wh eel or ev en a flat tir e and
the j ack and tool kit are properl y secured in the luggage compart­
ment and ar e not loo se in th e pas senger compartment.
• In an a ccident or sudden maneuver they could fl y forward,
i n juring anyone in th e ve hicle .
• Alw ay s s tore dam aged wheel , jack and t ool s se cure ly in the
luggage compartment. Othe rwi se , in an ac cident or sudden

3. Con nect o ne end to the negative ter minal ® of the
boost er batte ry @ .
4. Connect the other end o f the nega tive cab le (black) to the
jump start bolt© (Bolts with hex head = "ne gative") of
the vehicle to be starte d @ .
Starting the engine
- Start the e ngine of t he ve hic le w ith the boos ter ba ttery.
Run the engine at a moderate speed.
- Start eng ine w it h discharged ve hicle bat tery in t he usu al
manner .
- If the engine fai ls to sta rt: do not k eep the s tarter
c ra nki ng for longer tha n 1 0 seco nds. Wait for a bou t
30 se conds and then t ry again.
- With engine ru nni ng, remove jumper cables from bot h
ve hicle s in th e exac t
re verse ord er.
- Close t he red cover on the pos it ive po le.
Safety first
T he battery is vented to the outside to prevent gases from enter ing
t he ve hicl e inter ior. Make su re tha t the ju mper clamps are we ll
connected with the ir
metal parts in full contact with the battery
terminals .
& WARNING
To avoid serious personal injury and damage to the vehicle, heed
all warnings and instructions of the jumper cable manufacturer . If
in doubt, call for road service .
• Jumper cables must be long enough so that the vehicles do not
touch.
• When connecting jumper cables , make sure that they cannot
get caught in any moving part s in the engine compartment .
• Do not bend over the batteries · danger of chemical burns!
• The battery cell locking screws mu st be tightened securely .
• Before you che ck anything in the engine compartment, always
read and heed all WARNINGS=>
page 272, ''Eng ine compart­
ment ".

• Always connect POSITIVE( +) to POSITIVE(+), and NEGATIVE( -)

• Check that all sc rew p lugs on the battery cells are screwed in
fi rm ly . If no t, tig hten plugs prio r to con nectin g clamp on neg ative
battery terminal.
• P lease note that the proced ure for connecting a jumper cable as
described above app lies specifically to the case of your vehicle being
jum p st arted. When you a re giving a jump sta rt to anot her vehicle, do
not connect the negative( -) cab le to the negative (-) terminal on the
discharge d batte ry © =>

-Attach the winch hook to the rear towline eye previously
installed.
[I) Tips
Check carefully to make sure the hook-up is secure before moving the
car up the flatbed truck ramp.•
Lifting vehicle
Lifting with workshop hoist and w ith floor
jack
The vehicle may only be lifted at the lifting points illus­
trated.

-Locate lifting points~ fig. 254 and~ fig. 255.
- Adjust lifting arms of workshop hoist or floor jack to
match vehicle lifting points.
- Insert a rubber pad between the floor jack/workshop hoist
and the lifting points.
If you must lift your vehicle with a floor jack to work underneath,
be sure the vehicle is safely supported on stands intended for this
purpose.
Front Lifting point
The lifting po int is located on the floor pan re inforcement about at
the same level as the jack mounting point=> fig. 254.
Do not lift the
vehicle at the vertical sill reinforcement.
Rear lifting point
The lifting point is located on the vertical reinforcement of the lower
sill for the onboard jack=> fig . 255.

• Always remove the ign ition key before anyone gets under the
vehicle.
• Alway s support your vehicle with safety stands if it is nece ssary
to work underneath the vehicle . The jack supplied with the veh icle
is not adequate fo r thi s purpose and could collap se causing
serious personal injury.
• If you must work underneath the vehicle with the wheels on
the ground, always make sure the vehicle is on level ground, that
the wheels are always securely blocked and that the engine cannot
be started.
• Always make sure the transmi ssion selector lever (automatic
transmi ssion) is in "P " (Park po sition ) and the park brake is firmly
applied.

• Changing the engine settings will adverse ly affect emission levels .

tion.

worn out t ires .

as Perchlorate Mater ia l -spec ial hand ling may apply, see
www.dtsc.ca.gov/hazardouswaste/pe rchlorate . When the vehicle or
parts of t he rest raint system includi ng ai rbag modu les safety belts
with pretens ioners are sc rapped, all applicable laws and regulat ions
m ust be ob served. Yo ur author ized Au di dealer is f amiliar wi th these
requirements and we recommend that you have your dealer perform
t his servi ce for yo u. •
