-
- T he ski sack is intended only for the
transportation of skis and other light ob­
jects. To reduce the risk of serious per­
sonal inj ury, never transport heavy or
pointed objects in the ski sack.
- When braking rapidly or during an acci­
dent, the load could be displaced and
cause injury to occupants.
- Sharp edges on the load must be covered
for protect ion. Always fasten the belt
t ightly around the sack and its contents
¢ fig . 82 .
-For safety reasons, do not transport
more than two pairs of skis in the ski
sack.
- You must secure the ski sack with the
strap after loading.
- Make sure that all objects you are trans­
porting with the backrests folded for­
ward are secured . They could slide
around dur ing sudden braking maneu­
vers and cause injur ies .

-Never stow the sk i sack away when it is
still wet or damp (for example, snow melt ing from skis) . Allow it to dry com­
plete ly before stowing it away .
- When transporting skis or snowboards, tighten the securing strap between the
bindings.
- Position skis in the ski sack w ith the
po inted ends fac ing the front and ski
po les w ith the pointed ends facing the
rear.

Automatic mode ma inta ins a constant tem­
perature inside the vehicle. Air temperature,
airflow and air distribution are controlled au­
tomatically.
Adjusting the temperature
Temperatures between 60 °F (+16 °C) and
84 °F (+28 °C) can be set . Outside of this
range,
LO or HI will appea r in the climate con­
trol system disp lay. At both of these settings,
the climate control system runs continuously
at maximum cooling or heating power . There
is no temperature regu lation.
~ Adjusting the airflow
You can adjust the a irflow manually to su it
your needs . To have the airflow regulated au­
tomatically, press the
!AUTO ! button.
~ Adjusting the air distribution
You can manually select the ve nts where the
a ir will flow. To have the air d istribution regu­
la ted automatically, press the
IAUTOI button .
~ Adjusting seat heating*
Pressing the button switches the seat heat ing
on at the highest sett ing (level 3) . The LEDs
indicate the tempe rature leve l. To reduce the
temperature, press the button again. To
switch the seat heating off, press the button
repeatedly until the LED turns off.
After 10 minutes, the seat heating automati­
cally switches from level 3 to leve l 2.
[ill Adjusting seat ventilation*
Pressing the button switches the seat ventila­
tion on at the highest setting (level 3) . The
LE Ds indicate the ventilat ion level. To reduce
the ventilation leve l, press the button again.
To switch the seat ventilat ion off, p ress the
b utton repeatedly until the LED turns off.
I@ FRONT I Switch the defroster on /off
T he w indshield and side windows are defrost­
ed or cleared of condensation as quickly as
possible . The maximum amount of air flows
mainly from the vents below the windshield.
Recircu lation mode switches off. The tempera­
ture is controlled automatically.
The
i AUTO I button switches the defroster off.
lliil REARI Switching rear window heater
on/off
T he rear window heater only operates when
the engine is running. It switches off auto­
matically after a few minutes, depending on
the outside temperature.
T o p revent the rear window heater from
switching off automatically, press and hold
the
l oo REARI button for more than 2 seconds.
This remains stored until the ignition is
switched off.
Air vents
You can open and close the center and rear air
vents using the thumbwheels. The levers ad­
just the direction of the airflow from the
vents.
In veh icles with a 3-zone deluxe automatic cli­
mate control system*, you can adjust the air
temperature in the rear by turning the thumb­
whee l toward the red side to make it warmer
or toward the blue side to make it cooler.
A WARNING
-- Do not use the recirculation for extended
pe riods of time . The windows could fog
up since no fresh a ir can enter the vehi­
cle. If the windows fog up, p ress the air
recirc ulation button again immediately
to switch off the air recirc ulation func­
tion or se lect defrost .
- I ndividuals w ith reduced sensitivity to
pain or temperature could develop burns
when using the seat heating function. To reduce the risk of injury, these individu ­
als shou ld not use seat heating.

Presetting your speed
You can preset your desired speed while the
vehicle is not moving .
11-Switch on the ignition.
11-Pull lever in to pos ition (D c:> fig. 94.
11-Press the lever in the 0 or O direction to
increase o r decrease your speed .
11-Release the lever to save that speed.
T his funct ion makes it possible, fo r example,
to save the speed yo u want before d riving on
the highway . Once on the hig hway, activate
the cruise cont ro l by pull ing the lever towa rd
(D .

rily . To resume the saved speed, let up on the
brake and pull the lever to position

Switching the ignition off erases the saved
speed .
&_ WARNING
You should only return to the saved speed
if it is not too fast for the current traffic
conditions -risk of an accident!

The selector lever can only be moved from the
P position if the key is in the lock and the igni­
tion is sw itched on. If the power supply fa ils
(for examp le, the battery is discharged) and
the vehicle must be pushed or towed, move
the selector lever to the N pos ition first using
the eme rgency release .

Introduction

The adaptive cruise control system assists the
driver by regulat ing vehicle speed and helping
to maintain a set distance to the vehicle
ahead, within the limits of the system .
If the
system detects a moving vehicle up ahead,
adaptive cruise control can brake and then ac ­
celerate your vehicle. This he lps to make driv­
ing more comfortable on long highway
stretches.
The braking guard system can warn you about
an impending collision and initiate braking
maneuvers¢
page 100.
Adaptive cruise control and braking guard
have technical limitations that you must
know, so please read this section carefully, un­
derstand how the system works and use them
properly at all times.

he function of the adaptive cruise cont rol
system and braking guard is limited under
some condit ions:
- Objects can only be detected when they are
within sensor range
¢fig . 106 .
-The system has a limited ability to detect
objects that are a short d istance ahead, off
to the side of your vehicle or moving into
your lane.
- Some kinds of vehicles are hard to detect;
for examp le motorcycles, vehicles with high
ground clearance or overhanging loads may
be detected when it is too late or they may
not be detected at all.

A WARNING
-
Always pay attention to traffic when adap-
tive cruise contro l is switched on and brak­
ing guard is active. As the driver, you are
still respons ible for starting and for main­
tain ing speed and distance to other ob­
jects. Braking guard is used to assist you.
The driver must always take action to avoid
a col lision. The driver is always responsible
for braking at the correct time.
- Im proper use of adaptive cruise con trol
can cause collisions, other accidents and
serio us personal injury.
- Never let the comfor t and convenience
that adaptive cruise control and braking
guard offer distract you from the need to
be alert to traffic conditions and the
need to remain in full control of your ve­
h icle at a ll times,
- Always remember that the adaptive
cru ise contro l and brak ing guard have
lim its -they will not s low the vehicle
down or maintain the set distance when
you drive towards an obstacle or some ­
thing on or near the road that is not
mov ing, such as vehicles stopped in a
traffic jam, a stalled or disabled vehicle.
If registered by the radar sensor, vehicles
or obsta cles that are not moving can
trigger a co llision warning and if

What can Audi adaptive cruise control do?
The adaptive cruise control works in conjunc­
tion with a radar sensor installed in the front
of the vehicle

On open roads w ith no traff ic, adaptive cruise
control works like a regu lar cruise control sys­
tem. The stored speed is main tained. When
approaching a moving vehicle detected up
ahead, the adaptive cruis e control system au­
tomatically s lows down to match that vehi­
cle's speed and then maintains the distance
that the driver previous ly stored. As soon as
the system does not detect a vehicle up
ahead, adaptive cruise control accelerates
back up to the stored speed .
Which functions can be controlled?
When you switch adaptive cruise contro l on,
you can set the current speed as the "control
speed"

When driving, you can stop cruise control

at any time.

You can set any speed between 20 mph and
95 mph (30 and 150 km/h).
Indicator lamps and messages in the instru­
ment cluster disp lay inform you about the cur­
rent system status and settings.

In certain cases, a vehicle will be classified as
cr itical for a lane change
even if it is still
somewhat far away. The fas ter a vehicle ap­
p ro aches, the sooner the disp lay in the exteri­
or m irror will t urn on.
@ Vehicles traveling with you
Vehicles traveling w ith you are indicated in the
exterior m irror if they are classified as cr it ical
for a lane change. All vehicles detec ted by
side assis t are in dicated by the time they en­
ter your "blind spot", at the latest.
@ Vehicles left behind
If you s low ly pass a ve hicl e tha t sid e ass ist has
dete cted (t he difference in s peed between the
vehicle and you r vehicle is less than 9 mph
(15 km/h), the display in the exter ior mirror
turns on as soon as the vehicle enters your
blind spot.
The display wi ll not t urn on if you quickly pass
a vehicle that s ide assist has detected (the dif ­
ference in speed between the ve hicle and your
vehicle is greater than 9 mph (15 km/h).
Functional lim itations
T he radar senso rs are designed to detect the
left and right adjacent lanes whe n the road
l anes a re the normal width. In certain situa­
t ions, the d isp lay in the exterior mirror may
turn on
even though there is no ve hicle locat­
ed in the area that is cr itical for a la ne cha nge.
Fo r example:
- if the lanes are narrow or if your are driving
on th e edge of your lane. If this is the case,
the system may have detected the vehicle in
another la ne that is
not adjacent to you r
cur rent lane .
- if you a re driving throug h a c urve . Side assist
may react to a vehicle that is one lane ove r
from the ad jacent lane .
- if side assist reacts to other objects (such as
high or d isp laced gua rd rails) .
- In poor weather conditions. The side assist
fu nctions are limited .
Do not
cover the radar sensors c::> fig. 117 with
stickers, depos its, bicycle wheels or other ob­
jects, because this will affect the funct ion. Do
not use s ide ass ist when towing a trailer . For
i nforma tion on cleaning, refe r to
c::> page 198 .

-Always pay a ttention t o traffic and to th e
ar ea arou nd your vehi cle. Side a ssist c an­

si de assis t when towing a tra iler .

112 Park assist
Vehicles with the parking system are equipped
with a rear view camera in addition to the
acoustic parking system.
You can choose between two modes to assist
you with parking. For example, you can use
"parking mode 1" when parking in a parking
space or garage
c;;, fig . 121. When you want to
park parallel to the edge of the street, select
"parking mode 2" ¢fig .

The rear acoustic park assist system is inte ­
grated in the rear of the vehicle and the rear
view camera is integrated in the rear lid
c;;, page 113.
A WARNING
- T he rear view camera has blind spots, in
wh ich objects cannot be detected . Be es­
pecially careful to check for small chil­
dren and animals before backing up.
Small children and animals will not al­
ways be detected by the sensors.

Sensors in the bumper
Sensors are loca ted in the rear bumpers. If
these detect an obstacle, audible and visual
signals warn you. The range at which the sen­
sors begin to measure is approx imately:
To the side 2
ft (0.60 m)
Center rear 5.2 ft (1.60 m)
Distance warning when reversing starts when
an obstacle is detected in the range of the parking assist system . As the distance de­
creases, the time interval between the audible
tones becomes shorter.
When the distance is less than 1ft (0.30 m),
the tone becomes continuous. At this point
you should stop backing up.
If the distance to an obstacle stays the same,
the volume of the distance signal chime is
gradually reduced after about 4 seconds (does
not affect the contin uous signa l tone) . Ap­
proaching another obstacle will cause the dis­
tance signal to sound again at the normal vol­
ume.
Rear view camera coverage area
The MMI display shows the area covered by
the rear view camera

that are not in the area covered @are not
shown on the MMI display .
We recommend that you practice parking with
the rear view camera in a traffic-free location
or parking lot to become familiar with the sys­
tem, the orientation lines, and the ir function.
When doing this, there should be good light
and weathe r cond itions.
In the MMI display, objects or vehicles appear
closer or further away if:
- you are driving in reverse gear from a leve l
surface onto an incline, or a downward
slope,
- you are driving in reverse gear toward pro­
trud ing objects,
- the vehicle is carrying too much load in the
rear.
