Trip computer
Introduction
The trip computer gives you information on
current and average fuel mileage, average
speed, fuel range and driving time .

The fo llowing information is continuously
eva luated by the trip computer and can be dis­
p layed sequentially in the instrument cluster
display:
Fuel range
The estimated cruising range in miles (km)
appears in the display. This tells you how far
your vehicle wi ll be able to travel on the cur­
rent tank of fue l and with the same driving
style. The display changes in increments of 6
miles (10 km).
The cruising range is calcu lated based on the
fuel cons umption for the last 18 mi les
(30 km) . If you drive conservatively, the cruis­
ing range will increase.
Average fuel mileage
The average fuel economy in MPG (l/100 km)
since you last cleared the memory appears in
this display. You can use this disp lay to adjust
your driving technique to achieve a desired
mileage .
Current fuel mileage
The instantaneous fuel consumption in miles
per gallon (l/100 km) is shown in this display .
You can use this display to adj ust yo ur driving
technique to ach ieve a desired mileage.
Driver information display 25
Fuel consumption is recalcu lated at intervals
of 33 yards (30 meters). This display switches
to gallons/hour (liters/hour) when the veh icle
is not moving.
Average speed
The average speed in mph (km/h) s ince you
last reset the memory appears in the display.
Elapsed time
The length of time that yo u have been driving
s ince you last reset the memory appears in
th is disp lay.
Distance
The distance that has been covered since the
last time the memory was cleared appears in
the d isplay .
(0 Tips
- Fuel consumptions (average and cur­
rent), range and speed are displayed in
metric units on Canadian mode ls.
- All stored values will be lost if the vehi­
cle battery is disconnected.
Memories
The trip computer is equipped with two fully
automatic memories as well as an efficiency
program* .

Fue l economy messages are disp layed when
fuel consumption is increased by certain con­
d itions. If you follow these fuel economy mes ­
sages, you can reduce your vehicle's consump­
tion of fuel. The messages appear automati­
cally and are on ly displayed in the eff ic iency
program. The fuel economy messages turn off
automatically after a certain pe riod of time .

Service interval display
The service interval display reminds you when
your next service is due.

The schedule for the next oil change or inspec­
tion is calculated automatically and displayed
accordingly . The display works in two stages :
Service reminder
30 days before the next service is due, a serv ­
ice reminder appears in the display when you
turn on the ignition

Afte r abo ut 5 seconds the display sw itches
back to normal. The distance and time re- main
ing are upda ted each t ime the ignit ion is
turned on unt il the date d ue for service is
reached.
Service due

ment cluster immediate ly after yo u turn on
the ignition . Additiona lly, a warning tone
sounds. After about 5 seconds the disp lay
switches back to normal.

area around the vehicle when unlocking it.
This funct ion can be switched on and
off.

When the light switch is in the AUTO

Daytime running lights

The function cannot be
turned
off . It is activated automat ically each
time the ignition is switched on.
Tra vel mode*
The headlight beam is asymmetrical. This pro­
vides stronger illum ination on the side of the
road on wh ich you are driving . If you are driv ­
ing in a country that drives on the opposite
side of the road from your own country, t his
will cause glare for oncoming dr ivers. To pre­
vent glare:
- Trave l mode must be selected in vehicles
with Xenon head lights *.
- In vehicles with halogen headlights, ce rtain
areas of the head light lenses must be cov­
ered w ith waterproof adhesive covers that
prevent light from passing through . Fo r
more information, please see your author­
ized Audi dea ler or authorized repair facility .

When travel mode is a ctiv ated, a displ ay in
the dr iver information system indi cates
this each time you switch t he ignition on.
Emergency flashers

The emergency flashers makes other moto­
rists aware that you or your vehicle are in an
emergency situation.

When the emergency flashers are on, all four
turn signals b link at the same time. The turn

You can indicate a lane change or a tu rn when
the emergency flashers are switched on by us­
ing th e turn signal lever. The emergency flash­
ers stop temporarily .
T he emergency flashers also work when the
ignition is turned
off .
The emergency flashers wi ll tu rn on automat i­
ca lly if yo u are in an accident where the air bag
has deployed.

You sho uld turn on the emergency flashers
when:
- yo u are the last veh icle standing in a t ra f­
fic jam so that any other vehicles coming can see you, or whe n
- yo ur vehicle has bro ken down or you are
in an emergency situation, or when
- yo ur vehicle is be ing towed by a tow
truck or if you are towing ano ther vehicle
behind you .

What can Audi adaptive cruise control do?
The adaptive cruise control works in conjunc­
tion with a radar sensor installed in the front
of the vehicle

On open roads w ith no traff ic, adaptive cruise
control works like a regu lar cruise control sys­
tem. The stored speed is main tained. When
approaching a moving vehicle detected up
ahead, the adaptive cruis e control system au­
tomatically s lows down to match that vehi­
cle's speed and then maintains the distance
that the driver previous ly stored. As soon as
the system does not detect a vehicle up
ahead, adaptive cruise control accelerates
back up to the stored speed .
Which functions can be controlled?
When you switch adaptive cruise contro l on,
you can set the current speed as the "control
speed"

When driving, you can stop cruise control
c::> page 98 or change the speed c::> page 9 7
at any time.

You can set any speed between 20 mph and
95 mph (30 and 150 km/h).
Indicator lamps and messages in the instru­
ment cluster disp lay inform you about the cur­
rent system status and settings.

r ight. The distance between the two vehicles
w ill change in the instrument cluster dis­

When approach ing a mov ing vehicle up ahead,
the adaptive cruise control system brakes to
match that object's speed and then ma inta ins
the stored dis tance. If the vehicle ahead ac­
ce le rates, adaptive cruise contro l will also ac ­
ce lerate up to the stored speed.

(D V ehicles that are approaching
In certain cases, a vehicle will be classified as
cr itical for a lane change
even if it is still
somewhat far away. The fas ter a vehicle ap­
p ro aches, the sooner the disp lay in the exteri­
or m irror will t urn on.
@ Vehicles traveling with you
Vehicles traveling w ith you are indicated in the
exterior m irror if they are classified as cr it ical
for a lane change. All vehicles detec ted by
side assis t are in dicated by the time they en­
ter your "blind spot", at the latest.
@ Vehicles left behind
If you s low ly pass a ve hicl e tha t sid e ass ist has
dete cted (t he difference in s peed between the
vehicle and you r vehicle is less than 9 mph
(15 km/h), the display in the exter ior mirror
turns on as soon as the vehicle enters your
blind spot.
The display wi ll not t urn on if you quickly pass
a vehicle that s ide assist has detected (the dif ­
ference in speed between the ve hicle and your
vehicle is greater than 9 mph (15 km/h).
Functional lim itations
T he radar senso rs are designed to detect the
left and right adjacent lanes whe n the road
l anes a re the normal width. In certain situa­
t ions, the d isp lay in the exterior mirror may
turn on
even though there is no ve hicle locat­
ed in the area that is cr itical for a la ne cha nge.
Fo r example:
- if the lanes are narrow or if your are driving
on th e edge of your lane. If this is the case,
the system may have detected the vehicle in
another la ne that is
not adjacent to you r
cur rent lane .
- if you a re driving throug h a c urve . Side assist
may react to a vehicle that is one lane ove r
from the ad jacent lane .
- if side assist reacts to other objects (such as
high or d isp laced gua rd rails) .
- In poor weather conditions. The side assist
fu nctions are limited .
Do not
cover the radar sensors c::> fig. 117 with
stickers, depos its, bicycle wheels or other ob­
jects, because this will affect the funct ion. Do
not use s ide ass ist when towing a trailer . For
i nforma tion on cleaning, refe r to
c::> page 198 .
&_ WARNING
-Always pay a ttention t o traffic and to th e
ar ea arou nd your vehi cle. Side a ssist c an­
no t repl ace a driver 's atte ntion. The driv ­
er a lone is always res ponsible fo r lane
cha nges a nd similar driving maneuvers.

-Improper reliance on the side assist sys­
tem can cause collisions and serious
personal injury:
- Never rely only on side assist when
changing lanes.
- Always check rear view mirrors to make
sure that it is safe to change lanes.
- Side assist cannot detect all vehicles un­
der all conditions- danger of accident!
- Please note that side assist indicates
there are approaching vehicles, or
vehicles in your blind spot, only after
your vehicle has reached a driving speed
of at least 19 mph (30 km/h).
- In certain situations, the system may not
function or its function may be limited.
For example:
- if vehicles are approaching or being left
behind very quickly. The display may
not turn on in time.
- in poor weather conditions such as
heavy rain, snow or heavy mist .
- on very wide lanes, in tight curves or if
there is a rise in the road surface .
Vehicles in the adjacent lane may not
be detected because they are outside
of the sensor range.
(D Note
The sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the bumper, wheel housing and
underbody. This can affect the system .
Have your authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility check their
function.
(D Tips
- If the window glass in the driver's door
or front passenger's door has been tint­
ed, the display in the exterior mirror may be misinterpreted.

The display brightness adjusts automatically
to the brightness of the surroundings, both in
the information and in the warning stage . In
very dark or very bright surroundings, the dis­ play is already set to the minimum or maxi­
mum level by the automatic adjustment. In
such cases, you may notice no change when
adjusting the brightness, or the change may
only be noticeable once the surroundings
change.
Adjust the brightness to a level where the dis­
play in the information stage will not disrupt
your view forward. If you change the bright­
ness, the display in the exterior mirror will
briefly show the brightness level in the infor­
mation stage. The brightness of the warning
stage is linked to the brightness in the infor­
mation stage and is adjusted along with the
information stage adjustment.

Audi drive select Driving settings
Introduction
Appl ies to vehicles: wit h Audi drive select
Dr ive select provides the possib ility to experi­
ence different types of vehicle settings in one
veh icle. For instance, using the three
C o m­
fort, Auto and Dynamic modes, the driver can
switch from a sporty to a comfortab le driving
mode with the press of a button.
Addit ionally, in vehicles with
MM I*, the vehi ­
cle setup for
Indi vidu al* mode can be cus­
tomized by you. This makes it possib le to
combine settings such as a sporty engine tun­
ing with comfortable steering.
A WARNING
Improper use of the Audi drive select can
cause collisions, other acc idents and seri­
ous personal injury.
Description

The vehicle setup in each mode depends on
the vehicle's features. However, the engine,
automatic t ransmission and steeri ng a re a l­
ways involved.
-
Engine and automatic transmi ssion
Depending on the mode, the engine and the
automatic transmission respond quicker or in
a more ba lanced manner to acce lerator pedal
movements. In the sporty dynamic mode, the
automatic t ransmission shifts at h igher R PMs .
Steering
The steering adapts in terms of steering effort
and steering ratios. Indirect steer ing that
moves eas ily, like the stee ring in comfort
mode, is best su ited to long dr ives on a high ­
way. In contrast, dynam ic mode prov ides
sporty, di rect steering .
The follow ing applies to vehicles with dynam ic
steer ing*: the stee ring ratio changes based on
vehicle speed in order to maintain optimum

steering effort for the drive r at all times . This
sets the steering to be less sensitive at higher
speeds in order to provide improved vehicle
control. At reduced speeds, however, steer ing
is more d irect in order to keep the steering ef­
fort as minimal as poss ible when the driver is
maneuveri ng the veh icle . At low and average
speeds, dynamic steering addit iona lly pro­
vides more responsive stee ring pe rformance.
Adapt ive damper s*
The adaptive dampers* use sensors to record
i nformation regard ing steering movements,
braking and acceleration ope rations by the
drive r, road surface, driving speed, and load.
T his makes it possible to adapt damp ing to
the d riving situation v irtu ally i n rea l time.
Drive select also makes it possib le to satisfy
the desire for spo rty suspension (Dynamic)
and comfortab le suspension (Comfort) with­
out giving up ba lanced tuning (Auto) .
Sport differe ntial *
As a component of the all whee l dr ive sys tem
(quattro ®)
q page 184, the sport differential*
distributes the driving power to the rear ax le
depending on the sit uation . The distribution
of power var ies depending on the mode se­
lected. The goal is a high level of agility and
ability to accelerate on curves . The ve hicle is
very respons ive to steering .
Audi adaptive cru ise control*
The behav ior when accelerating can be adjust­
ed from comfortab le to sporty, depending on
the drive select mode. Adaptive cru ise control
also responds to the driv ing behavior of the
vehicle ahead in a mo re conservative or spo rty
manner .
Engine sound*
The sound of the eng ine is adapted to these­
lected mode and ranges from subtle to sporty.
0) Tips
- In some models, the maximum vehicle
speed can only be reached in the
Auto
and D ynamic modes.

The accuracy of the orientation lines and blue
surfaces diminis hes if:
- the rear view camera does not prov ide a re li­
able image, for examp le, in poor vis ibility
conditions or if the lens is dirty,
- the image on the screen is not visible due to
sun g lare and reflection .
Caring for th e rear view came ra lens
The rear view camera is located above the rear
license plate b racket . Fo r the pa rking assist to
ope rate, the lens,=:,
fig. 124 must be kept
clean:
- Dampen the lens with a househo ld alcohol­
based glass cleane r, and clean the lens with
a dry cloth

- Remove s now with a hand brush and ice
prefe rably with a de-icing spray

A WARNING
- T he pa rking aid cannot repla ce the dr iv­
er's attention. The driver a lone is respon­
sible for parking and similar driving ma­
neuvers .
- Always keep your eyes on the vehicle's
su rroundings, using the rear view mirror
as well.
- Do not a llow yourse lf to be d istracted
from traffic by the rear view camera pic­
tures.
- If the position and the installation ang le
of the camera has changed, fo r example,
after a rear end collision, do not continue
to use the system for safety reasons. Have it checked by a qua lified dealership.

- Low obstacles already signaled by a
warning can disappear from the system's
detection range as they are approached
and will not continue to be signaled . Ob­
jects such as barrier cha ins, trailer draw
bars, thin pa inted ve rtical po les o r fe n­
ces may not be detected by t he system,

- Never use warm or hot water to remove

Switching on/off
Applies to vehicles: with parking system (rear, with rear
view camera)
The rear view camera switches on automati­
cally together with the acoustic park assist
when you put the vehicle in reverse.
Switching on
"' Put the veh icle in reverse gear, the acoust ic
parking system with rear view camera is ac ­
tivated automat ica lly. Act ivat ion of the
acoust ic par king system is confirmed by a
brief ac knowledgement sou nd.
Switching off
"' Drive faster than 9 mph (15 km/h) , or
"' take the vehicle out of reverse gear . The
acoust ic park ing system is immediate ly de­
activated, and the rea r view came ra p icture
is deact ivated a utomat ically afte r a pe riod
o f abo ut 1 5 seconds , or
"' switch off the ignition.
T he de lay in deact ivat ing the came ra prov ides
an unin terrup ted view beh ind the ve hicle es­
pe cially when mane uver ing in tig ht park ing
spaces and prevents the picture from t urning
off the every time you shift out of reverse .
If the wa rning mess age ap pears in the dis play
but not the rea r view came ra p icture, read and
confirm the warni ng message. The acoustic
distance signal is always active .
If you press a fu nction button on the M MI
control console, the rea r view came ra p icture
disappears . The rear view camera picture reap­
pears the next time yo u pa rk.

Intelligent technology Notice about data
recorded by vehicle
control modules
Your vehicle is not equipped with an Event Da­
ta Recorder (EDR), installed by some manu­
facturers for the express purpose of capturing
data for retrieval after an accident or crash
event. EDR's are sometimes called "crash re­
corders".
Some state laws restrict the retr ieval or down­
loading of data stored by EDR's that were in­
stalled in a vehicle for the express purpose of
retrieving data after an accident or crash
event without the owner's consent.
Although your vehicle is not equipped with an
EDR, it is equipped with a number of electron­
ic control modules for various vehicle systems
such as, for examp le, engine function, emis­
sion control, as well as for the airbags and
safety belts.
These electronic control modules also record
vehicle-related data during norma l vehicle op­
eration for diagnostic and repair purposes.
The recording capacity of the electronic con­
trol modules is limited to data (no sound is re­
corded) and only a small amount of data is ac­
tually recorded over a very limited period of
time and stored when a system fault or other
condition is sensed by a control unit. Some of
the data then stored may relate to vehicle
speed, direction, braking as we ll as restraint
system use and performance in the event of a
crash or other condition. Stored data can only be read and downloaded with special equip­
ment.
Electronic Stabilization
Control (ESC)
Description
ESC helps to improve road holding and vehicle
dynamics to help reduce the probability of
skidding and loss of veh icle control. It works
only when the engine is running. ESC detects

certain difficult driving situations, including
when the vehicle is beginning to spin (yaw)
out of control and helps you to get the veh icle
back under control by se lectively braking the
wheels, and/or reducing engine power and
providing steering ass istance to help hold the
vehicle on the driver's intended course. The in­
dicator light
JjJ in the instrument cluster
blinks when ESC is taking action to help you
control the vehicle.
ESC has limitations .
It is important to remem­
ber that ESC cannot overcome the laws of
physics.
It will not always be able to help out
under all conditions you may come up against.
For example, ESC may not always be able to
help you master situations where there is a
sudden change in the coefficient of friction of
the road surface. When there is a section of dry road that is suddenly covered with water,
slush or snow, ESC cannot perform the same
way it would on the dry surface. If the vehicle
hydroplanes (rides on a cushion of water in­
stead of the road surface), ESC will not be
able to help you steer the vehicle because con­
tact with the pavement has been interrupted
and the vehicle cannot be braked or steered .

roads, ESC cannot always deal as effectively
with difficult driving situations than at lower
speeds. When towing a trailer, ESC is not able
to help you regain control as it would if you
were not tow ing a trailer.
A lways adjust your speed and driving style to
road, traffic and weather conditions. ESC can­
not override the vehicle's physical limits, in­
crease the available traction, or keep a vehicle
on the road if road departure is a result of
driver inattention. Instead, ESC improves the
poss ibility of keeping the vehicle under con­
trol and on the road dur ing extreme maneu­
vers by using the driver's steering inputs to
help keep the vehicle going in the intended di­
rection. If you are traveling at a speed that
causes you to run off the road before ESC can
provide any assistance, you may not experi­
ence the benefits of ESC.
