With this setting, you attain maximum com­
fort in the least amo unt of time. Change this
setting, as des ired, to meet yo ur persona l
needs.
The climate controls are a combination of heating, venti lation and cooling systems,
which automatica lly reduce hum idity and cool
the air inside your vehicle.
The climate control automatically maintains a
temperature once it has been set . The tem­
perature of the air from the vents, fan speed
(air volume) and air distribution are also auto­
mat ically adjusted . The system also takes into
account strong sunshine so that manual ad­
justment is not necessary . So in almost all
cases,
autom atic mo de offers the best cond i­
tions for the comfo rt of the occupants at all
times of the year¢
page 86.
Please note the following :
Turn on the air cond itioner to reduce hum idity
in the vehicle . Th is also prevents the w indows
from fogging up.
When the outside temperature is high and the
a ir is very hum id,
conden sation from the
evaporator may drip under the vehicle. This is normal and does not indicate a leak .
If the outside temperature is low, the fan nor­
mally only switches to a h igher speed once
the eng ine coolant has warmed up sufficient­
ly .
The air conditioner temporarily switches off
when you drive off from a standstill using full
thrott le to save engine power.
The compressor also switches off if the cool­
ant temperature is too high, so that the en ­
g ine can be adequately coo led under extreme
loads.
Du st and pollen filter
The dust and pollen filter (a combined particle
fi lter and activated charcoal filter) reduces or
prevents outside air pollut ion (dust, or po llen)
from entering the vehicle . T
he dust and po llen fi lter must be changed at
the interva ls specified in your Mai ntenance
booklet , so that the air conditioner can prop­
erly work.
If you drive your vehicle in an area with a high
degree of air pollution, the filter may need to
be changed more frequently than specif ied in
your Audi Warranty
& Maintenance book let. If
in doubt, ask your authorized Audi Service Ad­
visor fo r advice .

Energy management
T o prevent the battery from being discharged
and to resto re the ba lance of energy, compo ­
nents which require large amo unts of energy
are temporarily cut back or switched off

quire a great deal of energy. If you notice, for
example, that the rear w indow heater is not
heating, then it has bee n tempora rily cut back
o r switched off by
energy managemen t.
These sys tems are available again as soon as
the energy balance has been resto red.

- Switch the cruise contro l off temporarily
when d rivi ng in turn ing lanes, highway
exits or in construction zones .
- Please note that unconsciously "resting" yo ur foot on the accelerator pedal causes
c ruise contro l not to brake. This is due to
the control system be ing ove rridden by
the drive r's ac celeration.

- Vehicles with manual t ransmission: You
can attain the set speed only if the gea r
that is currently engaged wi ll allow it, or
if i t does not tax t he engine and allows it
to run smoothly . There fore shift into a
higher or lower gear in a timely manner.

Changing speed

0 to increase or decrease your speed.

Change speed in increments of 1 mph (1 km/ h) by light ly pressing the lever. If you keep the
lever pressed down, you will alter your speed
in 5 mph (10 km/h) increments .
You can a lso press the accelerator pedal down
to increase your speed, e.g. if yo u want to
pass someone. The speed you saved earl ier
will resume as soon as you let off of the accel ­
erator pedal.
If, however, you exceed your saved speed by
5 mp h (10 km/h) for longer than 5 minutes,
the cruise contro l will be turned offtempora -rily. The green symbo

Safety tips

The side assist detection may be limited when
driving aro und narrow street corners, on hilly
streets, and under poor weather conditions.
It is possible that the radar sensors may a lso
detect other objects, such as high or stag­
gered guardrails.
Side assist does not measure actual lane
width. The system assumes a fixed lane width.
Detection in the left and right lanes is based
on this assumed lane width. When driving on
narrow roads or when driv ing to the left or
right of the center of a trave l lane, it is poss i­
ble that vehicles will be detected that are
not
in the lane next to the lane you are using.

Introduction

Audi drive select provides the possibility to ex­
perience different types of vehicle settings in
one vehicle. For instance, using the three
COMFORT, AUTO and DYNAMIC modes, the
driver can switch from a sporty to a comforta­
ble driving mode with the press of a button.
Additionally, in vehicles with MMI*, the vehi­
cle setup for INDIVIDUAL* mode can be cus­
tomized by you. This makes it possible to
combine settings such as a sporty engine tun­ ing with light steering.
A WARNING
- Improper use of the Audi drive select can
cause collisions, other accidents and seri­
ous personal injury.
- Never drive at speeds that are too high
for traffic, road and weather conditions.
Description

The vehicle setup in each mode depends on
the vehicle's features. However, the engine
and servotronic are always affected. The auto­
matic transmission*, dynamic steering* and
adaptive dampers* are also adjustable.
Depending on the mode, the
engine and auto­
matic transmission*
respond more quickly or
in a more balanced manner to accelerator
pedal movements.
The
Servotronic (steering servo assistance)
c::> page 209 can also be adapted to driving
situations.
Dynamic steering* changes the steering ratio
as a function of the driving speed in order to
optimize the driver's required steering effort.
This sets the steering to be less sensitive at
higher speeds in order to provide greater con­
trol over the vehicle. At reduced speeds, how­
ever, steering is more direct in order to keep the steering effort as minimal as possible
when the driver is maneuvering the vehicle. At
low and average speeds, dynamic steering ad­
ditionally provides more responsive steering
performance. The driver can set the basic
steering ratio characteristics .
The
adaptive dampers* use sensors to record
information regarding steering movements,
braking and acceleration operations by the
driver, road surface, driving speed, and load.
This makes it possible to adapt damping to
the driving situation virtually in real time. Au­
di drive select also makes it possible to satisfy
the desire for sporty suspension (DYNAMIC)
and comfortable suspension (COMFORT) with­
out giving up balanced tuning (AUTO).
The following chart provides an overview of
the characteristics of each driving mode.

The setting is idea l for driving on long stretch ­
es, such as on freeways .
AUTO
Full use of AUTO provides a comfortable, yet
dynamic feel. The setting is perfect fo r daily
use .
DYNAMIC
DYNAMIC g ives the veh icle a sporty feeling .
The eng ine responds quick ly to accelerator
peda l movemen ts, and steering is sporty and
more direc t. T he adaptive dampers* are ad­
justed to prov ide a stiffer suspension and the
automatic transm ission* shifts at higher
RPMs . The setting is ideal for sporty driving .
INDIVIDUAL*
You can adapt th is mode to your pe rsonal

an unin ter rup ted view behind the ve hicle es ­
pecially when maneuvering in tight par king
spaces and p revents the picture from t urning
off the every time you shift out of reve rse.
If the warning message appears in the display
but not the rear view came ra picture, read and
co nfirm the wa rning message. The acoustic
distance signal is always active.
If you press a function button on the M MI
control console, the rear view came ra p icture
disappea rs . The rear v iew camera picture reap ­
pears the next t ime yo u park.
