A yellow symbol means WARNING.

Yellow symbols indicate a priority 2 malfunc­
tion -Warning!
When a yellow warning symbol appears,
one
warning tone sounds. A driver message ap­
pears as well to explain the malfunction in
more deta il. The driver warning goes out after
about 5 seconds, but it can be brought up at
any time by pressing the
! SET I button aga in.
Check the funct ion displayed as soon as possi­
ble. The yellow symbol will not go out again
until the reason for the malfunction has been
corrected.
If several priority 2 malfunctions are present ,
the symbols appear in succession and remain
for about 2 seconds .

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with
remote control. A mechanical key is integrat­
ed in the master key~
page 39.
® Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for con­
stant use.
It should only be used in an emer­
gency . Keep it in a safe place and do not carry
it on your key ring .
Key replacement
If you lose a key, contact your authorized Audi
dealer immediately to have the
lost key disa­
bled. Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Data in the master key
During driving, service and maintenance-rele­
vant data is continuously stored on your mas ­
ter key. Your Audi service adviser can read out
this data and tell you about the work your ve­ hicle needs. This applies a lso to vehicles with
conven ience key*.
Per sonal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recom­
mended that each person always uses "their
own" master key . When the ign ition is turned
off or when the vehicle is locked, personal
conven ience settings for the follow ing sys-

terns are stored and assigned to the remote
master key.
- Climate contro l
- Centra l locking system
- Seat memory*
- Parking system*
-Adaptive cruise control*
- Audi side assist*
- Audi drive se lect*
The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open
the doors or when you turn on the ignit ion.
A WARNING
-
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended
with the key in the ignition lock. Entry by
unauthorized persons could endanger
you or result in theft or damage the vehi­
cle . Always lock all doors and take the
key .
- Do not leave ch ildren unattended in the
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle
keys . Unguarded access to the keys pro­
vides children the opportun ity to start
the engine and/or activate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power windows etc. Un­
supervised operation of any vehicle sys­
tem by children can result in serious In­
jury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherwise the steering col­
umn lock could suddenly engage -caus­
ing the risk of an accident.
@ Tips
- Th e operation of th e remote control key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer­
ence from transmitters in the vicinity of
the vehicle working in the same frequen­
cy range (e .g. a cell phone, radio equ ip­
ment).
- If you open the driver's door with the key
left in the ignit ion lock, a chime w ill
sound. Th is is your reminder to remove
the key and lock the door.

-Do not leave children inside the vehicle
unsupervised. In an emergency it would
be impossible to open the doors from
the outside without the key.
(D Tips
- In the event of a crash with airbag de­
ployment all locked doors will be auto­
matically unlocked to give access to the
vehicle occupants from the outside .
- If the power lock ing system should mal­
function, you can lock the driver's door
using the mechanical key
q page 44.
- If the power lock ing system should fail,
you can still open the fuel tank flap in an
emergency
c:> page 235 .
-You are well advised not to keep valua­
bles inside an unattended vehicle, visible
or not . Even a properly locked vehicle
cannot provide the security of a safe.
- If the LED in the upper edge of the driv­
er's door panel comes on for about 30
seconds after the vehicle is locked, there
i s a ma lfunction in the power locking or
the anti-theft warning system. Have the
malfunction corrected by an authorized
Audi dealership or qualified repair facili­
ty.
Setting power locking
The driver can determine the functions for
power locking in the radio or MMI*.
In the Central locking menu you can decide
which doors should be unlocked when open ­
ing the vehicle.

For example, if you switch the item Unlocking

the passenger 's doo r is no
longer included in the power Locking system,
and will not be unlocked by p ress ing the un­
l ock button on the master key remote control.
You can continue to unloc k all the doors and
the rear lid as before. Press the open ing but­
ton on the master key tw ice.

In addition to this, the Auto locking can be
switched on and off.
When locki ng the vehicle, all doors and the
trunk lid are locked automatically.
If you switch
Trunk lid/tailgate On, then the

This feature prevents the vehicle from being
accidentally left unlocked over a long period
of time.

- In order to make sure the locking func­
tion is working, you shou ld always keep
your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is proper ly locked.
- Do not use the remote control if you are
inside the car, otherwise you may unin­
tentionally lock the vehicle, and then you
would set off the anti-theft alarm when
you try to start the engine or open a door. In case this happens anyhow, push
the un lock button

- Use the panic funct ion only if you are in
an emergency situation.
Unlocking and locking with convenience
key
Applies to vehicles: with co nve nience key
The doors and the rear lid can be unlocked
and locked without operating the master key.

master key must be w ith in a range of about
1.5 m from the appropriate door or the rear

It makes no difference whethe r the mas­
te r key is in your jacket pocket or in you r brief
case.
If you grip the door handle while locking, this
can adversely affect the locking function .
It is not possible to re-open the door for a
brief period directly after closing it. This al­
lows you to ensure that the doors are properly
locked .

-
If your vehicle has been standing for an ex­
tended per iod, please note the following:
- The prox imity sensors are deactivated af-
ter a few days to save power. You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unloc k the vehicle and a second t ime to
open the vehicle.
- T o prevent the battery from bei ng d is­
charged and to preserve you r vehicle's
ability to sta rt for as long as possib le,
t he energy management sys tem gradu­
ally switches off unnecessary

Digital compass
Activating or deactivating the compass
Applies to vehicles: with digital compass
The direction is displayed on the interior rear
view mirror.

.,.. To activate or deactivate, hold the@ but­
ton down until the red display appears or
disappears.
The digital compass only works with the igni­
tion turned on. The directions are displayed as
initials:
N (North), NE (Northeast), E (East),
SE (Southeast), S (South), SW (Southwest),
W (West), NW (Northwest).
(D Tips
To avo id inaccurate directions, do not al­
low any remote controls, electrical sys­
tems, or metal parts close to the mirror. Clear vision 59
Setting the magnetic deflection zone
Applies to vehicles: with digital compass
The
correct magnetic deflection zone must be
set in order to display the directions correctly.

until the number of the set magnetic deflec­
tion zone appears on the interior rear view mirror.
.,.. Adjust the magnetic deflection zone by re­
peatedly pressing on the@ button. The set
mode automatically deactivates after a few
seconds.
Calibrating the compass
Applies to vehicles: with digital compass
The compass has to be recalibrated if the dis­
play is wrong or inaccurate .
.,.. Hold the@ button down until the letter C
is displayed on the interior rear view mirror .
.,.. Dr ive in a circle at a speed of about 6 mph
(10 km/h) unti l a direction is shown on the
interior rear view mirror.

When the front seats are moved forward,
their origina l position is stored . When it is
moved back, the seat automatically stops in
this position. To move the seat even further
back, you have to release the switch @ and re­
activate it.
The head restraints from the front seats, de­
pending on the seat height that has been set,
are automatically retracted when the seat­
backs are folded down . They return to their
or iginal pos ition aga in when the seatbacks for
the front seats are raised .
(D Tips
With the driver's or passenger's door
closed, the correspond ing switch to move
the seat is inoperative.
Seat memory
Memory for driver's seat
Applies to vehicles: with seat memo ry
The seat adjustment settings for two drivers
can be stored using the memory buttons in
the driver's door.

In addition to the setting for the driver's seat ,
the exterior rear view mirror setting can be
stored and recalled through seat memory if
the vehicle is properly equipped.
Storing and recalling settings
With the help of the memory buttons 1 and 2
c:> fig. 70 the settings for two different drivers
can be stored and recalled
c:> page 65.
The current settings are also automatically as­ signed to the remote control key being used

when the vehicle is locked . When the vehicle
is un locked, the settings assigned to the re­
mote control key being used are automatica lly
recalled.
Turning seat memory on and off
If the I ON/OFF I switch is depressed, the seat
memory is inoperative. The word
OFF in the
I ON/O FF I switch illuminates.
Al l the stored sett ings are retained. We rec­
ommend using the
ION/O FF I switch and deac ­
tivating the seat memory if the vehicle is only
going to be used
temporarily by a driver
whose settings are not going to be stored.
Storing and recalling settings
Applies to vehicles : with seat memory
Before you can store or recall your settings,
the
ION/OFF I switch on the seat memory must
be engaged (not ra ised) .
Storing settings
.,. Adjust the driver's seat .
.,. Adjust the two exterior mirrors.
.,. Press the
ISETI button and hold it down . In
addition, press one of the memory buttons
for at least one second .
.,. Release the buttons . The settings are now
sto red under the corresponding memory
button.
Recalling settings
.,. If the driver's door is open, tap the corre­
sponding memory button briefly .
.,. If the driver's door is closed, press the ap­
propriate memory button until the stored
position is reached.

When the vehicle is locked , the current set­
tings are stored and assigned to the remote control key. But the settings stored under
memo ry buttons 1 to 2 are not deleted. They
can be recalled at any time. When the vehicle ..,.

is unlocked , the settings assigned to the
remote contro l key are restored.
If your vehicle is driven by other persons using
your remote control key , you sho uld save yo ur
individual seat position on one o f the memory
buttons . You can recall your settings again
simply and conven iently by pressing the corre­
sponding memory button. When the vehicle is locked, these settings are automatically re-as­
signed to the remote control key and stored .
A WARNING
-For safety reasons, the seat setting can
only be reca lled when the veh icle is sta­
tionary -otherwise you risk having an ac­
ci dent.
- In an emergency the recall procedure can
be cancelled by pressing the
I ON/OF F I
switch or by tapping of the the memory
buttons .
Activating remote control key memory

To assign the driver's seat settings to the re­
mote contro l key when locking the vehicle , the
function must be activated in the radio or

Seat adjustments in MMI
Applies to vehicles: wit h seat memory and MMI
The passenger 's seat can be adjusted to vari­
ous positions by the driver .
Convenience side view
.. Select: Function button I CAR!> Seat adjust­
ment > Passenger's seat > Convenience side
view.
.. Continue to press the control knob until the
ad justment process is complete .
Seat symmetry
.. Select: Function button I CAR !> Seat adjust­
ment > Passenger's seat > Seat symmetry.
.. Continue to press the control knob until the
adjustment process is complete .
U sing the
Convenience side view function, the
passenger's seat is adjusted so tha t the driver
has the best poss ible view to the right . When
the Conven ience s ide v iew is set, the specific
pos ition of the driver's seat is taken into con­
s ideration .
Using the
Seat symmetry function, the pas­
senger's seat can be moved to the same posi­
t ion as the driver's seat. The settings for the
drive r's seat are imported and set automati­
cally .

With this setting, you attain maximum com­
fort in the least amo unt of time. Change this
setting, as des ired, to meet yo ur persona l
needs.
The climate controls are a combination of heating, venti lation and cooling systems,
which automatica lly reduce hum idity and cool
the air inside your vehicle.
The climate control automatically maintains a
temperature once it has been set . The tem­
perature of the air from the vents, fan speed
(air volume) and air distribution are also auto­
mat ically adjusted . The system also takes into
account strong sunshine so that manual ad­
justment is not necessary . So in almost all
cases,
autom atic mo de offers the best cond i­
tions for the comfo rt of the occupants at all
times of the year¢
page 86.
Please note the following :
Turn on the air cond itioner to reduce hum idity
in the vehicle . Th is also prevents the w indows
from fogging up.
When the outside temperature is high and the
a ir is very hum id,
conden sation from the
evaporator may drip under the vehicle. This is normal and does not indicate a leak .
If the outside temperature is low, the fan nor­
mally only switches to a h igher speed once
the eng ine coolant has warmed up sufficient­
ly .
The air conditioner temporarily switches off
when you drive off from a standstill using full
thrott le to save engine power.
The compressor also switches off if the cool­
ant temperature is too high, so that the en ­
g ine can be adequately coo led under extreme
loads.
Du st and pollen filter
The dust and pollen filter (a combined particle
fi lter and activated charcoal filter) reduces or
prevents outside air pollut ion (dust, or po llen)
from entering the vehicle . T
he dust and po llen fi lter must be changed at
the interva ls specified in your Mai ntenance
booklet , so that the air conditioner can prop­
erly work.
If you drive your vehicle in an area with a high
degree of air pollution, the filter may need to
be changed more frequently than specif ied in
your Audi Warranty
& Maintenance book let. If
in doubt, ask your authorized Audi Service Ad­
visor fo r advice .
Key recognition
The current climate contro l settings are auto ­
matically stored and assigned to the remote
key
Energy management
T o prevent the battery from being discharged
and to resto re the ba lance of energy, compo ­
nents which require large amo unts of energy
are temporarily cut back or switched off
¢ page 211. Heat ing systems in particular re­
quire a great deal of energy. If you notice, for
example, that the rear w indow heater is not
heating, then it has bee n tempora rily cut back
o r switched off by
energy managemen t.
These sys tems are available again as soon as
the energy balance has been resto red.

Reduced visibi lity is dangerous and can
cause accidents .

- For safe d riving it is very impor tant that
all windows be free of ice, snow and con ­
densation .
- Comp lete ly fam iliari ze yourse lf with the
proper use and function of the heating
and venti lation system and especially
how to defog and defrost the w indows.
- Never use the windshield wipe r/washer
system in freez ing weather unt il you
have warmed the windshie ld first, using
the heating and ventilation system. The
washer sol ution may freeze on the w ind-
shie ld and red uce visib ility.

In certain situations, the braking power of the
adaptive cruise control is not sufficient to
maintain an adequate distance from the ob­
ject ahead . In this situation, the adaptive
cru ise control calls on
you as the driver to take
action.
The
driver intervention prompt alerts you vis­
ually and audib ly .

-The text DISTANCE! appears in the status

blinks red.

-If the adaptive cruise control initiates
braking, the hydraulic brake system is
under pressure . Th erefore, the brake
pedal distance is shorter and the pedal
"feels" harder.
- Adaptive cruise contro l is swi tched off af ­
ter pressing the footbrake. The speed
saved up this point can be resumed.
- To resume the saved speed, re lease the
brake pedal and press the control lever

control off temporarily.
- If you use the accelerator to go faster
than the speed of the object ahead of
you, the
driver intervention prompt will
not be accompan ied by a warn ing signal.
- If the speed you previously set is exceed­
ed, the indicator light in the speedome­
ter will switch off.
MMI settings

Individual settings for adoptive cruise control

Settings for the driving program can be ad ­
justed individually to the particular user and saved in the MM!*.

Setting the driving program
In the driving program menu you can adjust
the characteristics of adaptive cruise control
to what you want using
dynamic , standard or
comfort.
Saving settings
Your individua l settings are automatically
saved and assigned to the remote control key
being used ( remote key storage). If the key is .,..
