Depending on the vehicle equipment level, you
may choose between the quartz clock or the
GPS
controlled clock* l!j in the radio or in the MMI *.

Odometer /t ri p odomete r
The display of distance driven is shown in kilome ­
ters "km" or in miles "mi".
- USA mode ls - Miles
- Canada models - Kilometers
The units of measure (kilometers/miles) can be changed in the radio or MMI* . You can learn
mo re about this in the MMI manual or in the ra­
d io user's manual.
The odometer @ shows the total number of kilo ­
meters or miles that have been driven on the ve­
h icle .

The trip odometer @ shows the distance driven
since it was last reset.
It can be used to measure
short distances. The last digit shows distances of
100 meters or 1/10 of a mile .
The trip odometer can be reset to zero by press ­
ing the reset button

Malfunction message
If there is a malfunction somewhe re in the in­
strume nt cluster,
DEF w ill appear in the tr ipod­
ometer and w ill stay on. Contact yo ur authorized
Aud i dealer to have the prob lem corrected.
Immobilizer
When the ignition is switched on, the data on the
i gnition key are scan ned automat ica lly .
If an unauthor ized key was used,
SAFE is d is·
played permanently in the odomete r display

-When you switch off the ignition or open
the driver door, the time, date, odometer
and tempe rature are displayed for an addi­

Fuel gauge
The fuel gauge works only when the ignition is
on.

t o the locked steering. If it is towed wi th t he
steering locked, the re is the r isk of an acci ­
dent .

If the Dl ind icator light blinks while driving , the
ESC o r ASR (A nti-Sl ip Regulation) is act ively regu­
l ating .
If the
G1 ind icator light turns on, the system has
switched the ESC off. In t his case, you can switch
t h e ign it io n off and then on to swi tch the ESC on
again. The indicator light t urns off when the sys­
tem is functioning fu lly .

stri cted or sw itched off using the

Stabilization cont rol (ESC / ABS ): Fault! See

If the indicator l ight DJ and the ABS indicator
li ght

turn o n and the message appears, the ABS or
electron ic different ial lo ck is malfunctioning.
This also causes the ESC to malfunc tion. The
brakes st ill function with the ir norma l power, but
ABS is not active .

A WARNING
If the 11111 (USA models)/ . (Canada mod­
e ls) br ake system indicator light turns on to­
gether with the ABS and ESC ind icator lights,
the ABS/ESC regulating function may have
failed. F unctions that stabilize the vehicle are
no longer ava ilab le. This could cause the vehi­
cle to swerve and increase the risk of sliding. Drive carefully to the nearest authorized Aud i
dealer and have the malfunction corrected .

This warning/i ndicator light monitors the ABS
and the electronic differential lock (EDL) .
The warning/indicator light fIE) (USA models)/
ti] (Canada models) wi ll come on for a few sec­
onds when the ig nition is switched on. The ligh t
w ill go out after an au tomatic check sequence is
comp leted.
There is a malfunction in the ABS when :
-The warning/indicator lig ht does not ill uminate
when you switch the ig nition on .
- The warning/indicator light does not go out af­
ter a few seconds.
- The warning/indicator lig ht ill uminates wh ile
driv ing .
The ESC indicator light a lso ill uminates if the re is
a ma lf u nction in the ABS. The message
Stabiliza­
tion control (ESC ): Fault! See owner's manual
als o appears in the inst rument cluste r display
and a warn ing tone sounds.
The brake system will still respond even with­
out the assistance of the ABS system. See your
authorized Audi dealer as soon as possible to re ­
store full braking performance.

M alfunction in the brake system

lock (EDL)
The EDL works toget he r with the ABS . The ABS
war ning light w ill come on if there is a ma lf u nc­
tion in the ED L sys tem

els) warning light does not go out, or if it
comes on while dr iv ing, the A BS system is
not working prop erly. The veh icle can t hen

(wit hou t A BS). Y ou will no t have the pro te c­
t ion A BS provi des . Cont act your aut hor ized
Au di deale r as soon as possible.
- US A mode ls: I f th e 1111 warning light and
the
9 warn ing ligh t come on togethe r, the
rear w heels could lock up fi rst under hard
braking . Rear wheel lock- up can cause loss
of vehicle contro l and an acc ident. Have yo ur
veh icle repaired immediately by your au ­
thorized A udi dealer or qualified workshop .

- Canada models : If the brake warn ing light

den, ha rd brake applications.
tli I !i: Safety systems
The fl (USA models)/ EI (Canada mode ls) indi­
cator lig ht monitors the safety systems (e.g. a ir ­
bags, pretens ione rs) and illum inates fo r a few
seco nds each time you swi tch the ignition on.
If the
II (USA models) tEI (Canada models) in­
dicator light does not go out, o r if it ill uminates
wh ile you a re dr iv ing, or if it sta rts to b link, t hen
t h ere is a malfunct io n somewhere in the system .
If the ligh t does not illum inate wh en yo u sw itc h
t h e igni tion o n, t his a lso means there is a mal­
funct ion.
A WARNING ~
If yo u have a ma lf u nct ion in the safe ty sys-
tems, contact your authorize d Au di d ealer im ­
mediately. Ot herwise the safety systems may
not wor k properly in an accident .

you can continue to turn the lights on and off us ­
ing the light switch . You can still control a ll func­
tions that are independent of the rain sensor
through the w indshield wiper lever.
Contact your author ized Audi dealer as soon as
possible to have the problem corrected.
; Adaptive dampers
Applies to vehicles: with Audi drive select and adaptive damp­
ers
B Su spen sion : S yst em fault!
If the B symbol in the display comes on, there is
a ma lf u nction in the adaptive dampers . P lease go
to an author ized Audi de aler or qu alified work­
shop to have the ma lfunction repaired .
!-: Sport differential
Applies to vehicles: with Audi drive select and sport differen ­
tial
Sport differ ential: Syst em fault!
There is a malfunction with the sport differential.
Drive to your authorized Aud i dea ler immediately
to have the malfunct ion corrected.
Sport differential: Overhe ating
The transmission tempe rature has increased s ig­
n ificant ly due to the sporty driv ing manne r. D rive
i n a less sporty manner until the temperature re­
turns to the normal range and the indicator light
switches of.
A WARNING
Contact your authorized A udi dealer or quali­
fied workshop if the sport differential is faulty
or ma lfunctioning. The repa ir must be per­
formed by trained personnel us ing the correct
oil in order to ensure safety .
~ Ignition lock
II Ignition lock defective
There is a malfunction in the electronic ignition
lock . Please go to an authorized Audi dea ler or
other qualified workshop to have the malfu nction
repaired .

Q Turn
signals
Wheneve r yo u use the left B or the right Ill
turn s ignal , the ind ic a tor light blinks. When you
u se the emergency flashe rs, both indicator ligh ts
f lash.
If one of the tu rn signa l ligh t bulbs bu rn out, the
turn s ignal will b link t wice as fast as no rmal.
Caref ully drive to yo ur a uth o rized Aud i dea ler im­
mediate ly to have the malfunction corrected.

Central locking
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the rear lid simultaneously.
You can lock and unlock the vehicle centrally. You have the following choices:
- Remote master key ¢

- Power lock ing switch ins ide¢

Automatic lo cking
The automat ic locking feature locks all the vehi­
cle doors and the rear lid when you drive faster
than 9 mph ( 15 km/h) .
The car is unlocked again once the ignition key is
removed . In addition, the vehicle can be unlocked
if the opening function in the power locki ng sys ­
tem sw itch or at one of the door levers is actuat­
ed. The A uto Lock funct io n can be tu rned on and
off in the rad io or MM I* ¢
page 36.
Addit ionally, in the event of a crash with airbag
deployment the doors are automatically un­
l ocked to allow access to the veh icle.
Selective unlocking
When you lock the vehicle, the power locking sys­
tem will lock the doors and the rear lid . When
unlocking, yo u can set in the rad io or MMI*
whether
only the d river 's doo r o r the entire vehi­
cle shou ld be un loc ked
¢ page 36.
Anti-theft alarm w arning system
If the anti-theft alarm warning system detects a
break-in into the vehicle, acoust ic and visual
warn ing s ignals a re triggered.
The anti-theft warning system is activated auto­
mat ically when you lock the vehicle. It is deact i­
vated when unlocking using the remote key, with the mechanical key, and w hen you switch o n the
i gnit ion .
Op ening and cl osing
The alarm also t urns off when the alarm cycle has
expi red.
Turn signals
When you unlock the veh icle, the turn s ignals
flash twice, when yo u lock it once. If they do not
flash, one of the doors, the l uggage compa rt­

Unintentionally locking yourself out
In the following cases there safeguards to p re­
ven t you locking your remo te mas te r key in the
vehicle:
- The vehicle does not loc k w ith the power lock­
ing sw itch ¢
page 35 if the d river 's doo r is
open.
- On veh icles with co nvenience key*, if the most
re cent ly used master key is in the l uggage com­
pa rtment, the rear lid is a utomatically unlocked
aga in after it is closed.
Do not lock your veh icle w ith the remote master
key or conven ience key* until all doors and the
rea r lid are closed . In this way yo u avoid loc king
yoursel f out acc identally .
A WARNING
=
-When you leave the vehicle, always remove
the ignition key and take it with you. This
will prevent passengers (children, fo r exam­
ple) from accidentally being locked in the
veh icle should they accidentally press the
power locking sw itch in the front doors.
- Do not leave children ins ide the veh icle un­
supervised . In an emergency it would be im­
possible to open the doors from the outside
without the key.
(D Tips
- In the event of a crash wit h airbag dep loy­
ment all locked doors will be automatically
unlocked to give access to the vehicle occ u­
pants from the o utside.
- If the power locking system sho uld mal­
function, you can lock the driver's door us­ ing the mechan ica l key ¢

- If the power locking system should fail, you
can still open the fuel tank flap in an emer­
gency ¢

-You are well advised not to keep val uables
inside an unatte nded vehicle, v is ible or not.
Even a properly locked vehicle cannot pro­
v ide the security of a safe.
- If the LED in the upper edge of the driver's
door panel comes on for about 30 seconds
after t he vehicle is locked, there is a mal­
funct ion in the power lock ing or the anti­
theft warning system . Have the malf unct io n
cor rected by an authorized Audi dealership
or q ualified repair facility.

You can chec k the number of assigned keys to
your vehicle

sure yo u have received all of the keys when you
purchase a used vehicle .
Data in the master key
During driving, serv ice and maintenance-re levan t
da ta is cont inuo usly stored on your master key.
You r A udi service adviser can read out this data
and te ll yo u about the work you r vehicle needs.
This applies also to veh icles with convenience
key* .
Personal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own" maste r
k ey . W hen the ignit ion is turned off or when the
vehicle is loc ked, personal conven ience settings
for the following systems are stored and as­
signed to the remote master key.
- Climate control
- Power locking system
- Sea t memory *
- Park ing system*
-Adaptive cr uise control*
- Side assist*
- Drive select*
The stored settings are a utomat ica lly rec alled
when you unlock t he vehicle, when yo u ope n the
doo rs or when yo u turn on the ignition.
A WARNING
- Do not leave you r vehicle unattended with
the key in the ignition lock. Entry by una u­
thor ized persons could endanger you or re­
sult i n theft o r damage the vehicle .
- Do not leave childre n unattended i n the ve­
hicle, especially with access to vehicle keys .
Ungua rded access to the keys provides chil­
dren t he oppor tunity to start the engine
an d/or activa te ve hicl e sys tems s uch as the
powe r windows etc. Unsupervised ope ration
of any vehicle system by children c an res ult
in ser ious injury.
