Instruments and indicator lights
Display content
In the Infotainment system, you can specify
which information should be displayed: For ex­
ample, this can include navigation information *,
Adapt ive cruise control* or night vision assist* .
The display of certai n in formation and some of
the red indicator lig hts cannot be hidden in the
Infotainment system.
Display brightness
You can adjust the display brightness in the Info­
tainment system. The display brightness decreas­
es automatically as the amount of light decreas­
es. The basic level of brightness is adjusted with
the instrument illumination¢
page 48.
(D Note
To prevent scratches on the glass covering the
Head-up display, do not place any objects in
the projection opening.
@ Tips
-Sunglasses with polarization filt ers and un­
favorable lighting conditions can affect the
display.
- An optim um display depends on the seat
position and the height adjustment of the
head-up display.
- A specia l windshield is needed for the head­
up display function.

On Board Diagnostic
System (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ¢..ifi in the
instrument cluster is part of the On-Board Diag­
nostic (OBD II) system .
The warning/indicator light illuminates when the
ignit ion is switched on and goes out after the en ­
gine starts and the idle has stabilized . This indi­
cates that the MIL is working properly.
If the light does not go out after the engine is
started, or illuminates wh ile you are driving, a

malfunction may exist in the engine system. If
the light illuminates, the catalytic converter
could be damaged.
Continue driving
with reduced power (avoiding
sustained high speeds and/or rapid accelera­
tions) and have the condition corrected . Contact
your authorized Audi dea ler.
If t he light illuminates, the electronic speed lim­
iter may also be ma lfunctioning. For more infor­
mation ¢
page 29, Electronic speed limiter.
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate

On-Board Diagnostics

On-Boa rd Diagnostics monitors the components
of your emission control system. Each monitored
component in your engine system has been as­
s ig ned a code . In case o f a malfunct ion, the com­
pon ent will be identified and the fault stored as a
code in the contro l module memory.
The MIL light may also illum inate if there is a
leak in the on-boa rd fuel vapor recovery system.
If the light illuminates after a refuelling, stop
the vehicle and make sure the fuel filler cap is properly closed
c::;;, page 210.
In order to make an accu rate diagnosis, the stor­
ed data can only be displayed using special diag­
nostic equipment (generic scan tool for OBD) .
In order to connect the special diagnostic equip­
ment, push the plug into the Data Link Connector
(DLC). The DLC is located to the right of the hood

Correcting power window malfunctions
After disconnecting the vehicle battery, the one­
touch up and down feature must be activated
again .
.,. Pull the powe r window switch until the window
is completely ra ised.
.,. Release the switch and pull it aga in for at least
one second.
Valet parking
The valet parking feature protects the luggage
compartment from unauthorized access .

Opening and closing
The vehicle can be driven and locked and un­
locked with the master key. Access to the lug­
gage compartment is blocked.
When the valet parking function is switched on ,
the message

the ignition on .

-In cool or damp weather, the inside of the
headlights, turn signals and tai l lights can
fog over due to the temperature difference
between the inside and outside. They will
clear short ly after switching them on. This
does not affect the service life of the light­
i ng.
Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever on the left side of the steering column
is used to operate the turn signals and the high
beam as well as the headlight flasher.

Notes on these features
-The turn signals only work w ith the ignition

switches off automatically.

high beam works on ly when the headlights
are on. The indicator light

High beam assist

A camera on the rearview mirror mount can de­
tect light sources from other road users. The high
beams switch on or off automatically depending
on the posit ion of vehicles driving ahead and on­
coming vehicles, the vehicle speed and other en­
vironmental and traffic conditions.
Activating high beam assist
Requirement: The AUTO light switch position
must be selected and the high beam assist must
be switched o n in the Infotainment system
¢page 46.

p lace any st ic kers in this area on the windshie ld.
A WARNING

H igh beam assist is only intended to assist
the drive r. The dr iver is still responsible for
cont rolli ng the headligh ts a nd switch ing
t hem ma nually de pendi ng on light and vis ibil­
i t y conditions.

- In adverse weat her condi tions such as fog,
heavy rain, blowing snow or spray ing water.
- On roads where oncoming traffic may be
pa rtially obscure d, such as expressways.
- When the re are roa d users that do not have
suff icient lighting, such as bicyclers or
veh icles with dirty tail lamps.
- In tig ht curves an d on stee p slopes.
- In poorly lit a re a s.
- W it h st ro ng refle cto rs, such a s signs .
-If th e ar ea of the wi ndshi eld n ear the s ensor
i s f ogged over, dirty, icy or covered with a
s tick er.
Adjusting the exterior lighting
The settings are adjusted in the MMI.

off and open the driver's door. To turn the func-

Warm and cold
Basic settings
Applies to vehicles: with four-zone automatic climate control
The climate control system basic settings are ac­
cessed in the Infotainment system.
• Se lect : the ICARI function button> (Car)* Sys-
tems
control button > AC.
Rear seat settings
When this function is selected, all settings for
the rea r can be adjusted through the climate con­
trol system in the cockpit . The climate control
system sett ings cannot be adjusted in the rear
seat at the same time. Th is function switches
off
after a certa in period of time or when one of the
controls in the cockpit is pressed .
Recirculation mode
The sensit ivity level of the automatic recircula­
tion mode can be set at various levels from
Off to
Sensitive . Recirculation mode is controlled auto­
matically .
If the windows fog up, press the
I@ FRONT I button .
Footwell temperature
You can adjust the footwell temperature so that
it is coo ler or warmer.
Auxiliary heater*
I n vehicles with diesel engines*, the auxiliary
heate r helps to warm the ve hicle interio r more
quickly . The auxiliary heater is controlled auto­
matically in the
Auto sett ing .
Steering wheel heating
Applies to veh icles: w ith heate d steering wheel
The steering wheel rim can be heated.

b rake provides various conve nience and safety

Do not press the accelerator peda l inadver­
tently if the veh icle is stationary but the en­
g ine is running and a gear is selected. Other­
wise the veh icle w ill sta rt to move immediate­
l y and co uld res ult in a crash.

- If the park ing bra ke is applied w ith the igni­
tion switched off, the indicator lights in the
switch and -(USA

- Occasional noises when the parking brake is
applie d and released are normal and are not
a ca use for con cern.
- When the vehicle is pa rked, the parking
brake goes through a self-test cycle at regu­
lar in tervals. Any as so ci ate d noi ses are nor­
ma l.

Driving
-The ignition will turn off if you press the
I STAR T ENGINE STOP! button during a stop
phase. The needle in the tachometer moves
into the
OFF position.
General information

Th e standard Start-Stop mode con be canceled
for different system-related reasons.

Engine does not switch off
Before and during each stop phase, the system
checks if certain conditions have been met. For
example, the engine will not switch
off in the fol­
lowing situations :
- The engine has not reached the minimum re­
quired temperature for Start-Stop mode.
- The interior temperature selected by the A/C
system has not been reached.
- The outside temperature is extremely high/low.
- The windshield is being defrosted®.
- The parking system* is be switched on.
- The battery charge level is too low.
- The steering wheel is turned at a sharp angle or
is moving .
- After engaging the reverse gear .
- On sharp inclines.
@j also appears in the instrument cluster dis­
play.
Engine automatically restarts
The standard Start-Stop mode will be canceled
during a stop phase in the following situations .
The engine restarts without any action by the
driver.

- The vehicle rolls, for example while on a slope.
- The interior temperature varies from the tem-
perature selected in the A/C system.
- The windshield is being defrosted®.
- The brake pedal is pressed several times in a
row.
- The battery charge level becomes too low.
- High power consumption.
The engine can turn
off again when the condi­
tions for Start-Stop mode are met.
Ignition is switched off automatically
To prevent the battery from draining, the igni­
tion
will switch off automatically under the fol·
lowing conditions:
- The vehicle has already been driven.
- The Start-Stop-System has stopped the engine.
- The driver's door is opened.
- The driver's safety belt is removed.
- The brake pedal is not pressed down .
- The vehicle is stationary.
In this case, the activated low beam is replaced
by the parking light. The parking lights will
switch
off after approximately 30 minutes or
when you lock the vehicle.
If the Start-Stop-System has not turned off the
engine or if you have switched the Start-Stop­
System
off manually, the ignition will not be au­
tomatically switched
off and the engine will con­
tinue to run

A WARNING
Never allow the engine to run in confined
spaces, because this increases the risk of as­
phyxiation .
(D Tips
-If you shift into the D or N position after
shifting into reverse, the vehicle must be
driven faster than 6 mph (10 km/h) in order
for the engine to switch off again .

Switching the Start-Stop-System on/off
manually
Applies to vehicles: with Start-Stop-System
If you do not wish to use the system, you can
switch it off manually .

I f you switch the system off during a stop

engine manually
This message appea rs when specifi c condi tions
are not met dur ing a stop phase and t he S tart­
S top -Sy stem w ill
not be able to resta rt the en­
gine. The engine must be sta rted with the
I START ENGINE ST OPI button.
Start-stop system : System fault! Currently
unavailable
There is a mal function in the Start -Stop -System .
Drive the ve hicl e to an authorized repa ir facility
for servicing as soon as possible to correct the malfunct ion .
D rivi ng
Speed warning system
Introduction
The speed warning system helps you to stay un­
der a specified maximum speed.
The speed warn ing system warns you if you are
exceed ing the maximum speed that you have set.
You will hear a warn ing tone when your speed ex­
ceeds the s tored value by approx imately 3 mph
(3 km/h) . An indicator light . (USA models)/ .
(Canada models) in the instrume nt cl uste r d is­
play a lso tu rns on at t he same time. The indicator
lig ht •• tur ns off when the speed decreases
below the stored maximum speed.
Setting a th reshold is recommended if yo u wo uld
lik e to be rem inded whe n you reach a cer tain
ma ximum speed. Situations where you may want
to do so incl ude driving in a co untry with a gener ­
al speed limit or if there is a spec ified maximum
speed for winter tires.
@ Tips
Eve n though your vehicle is eq uipped w ith a
speed warning system, yo u should still watch
the speedometer to make sure you are not
driving faster than the speed lim it.
Setting the threshold
You can set, change and delete the warning
threshold in the Infotainment system.

(30 km/h) and 150 mph (240 km/ h). Settings

The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive a constant speed that is 30 km/h or higher.

The speed is kept constant by modifying engine
power or through an active brake intervent ion.
A WARNING
- Always pay attention to the traffic around
you when the cruise control is in operation.
You are always responsible for your speed

and the distance between your vehicle and
other vehicles.
- For safety reasons, cruise control should not
be used in the city, in stop-and-go traffic, on
winding roads and when road conditions are
poor (such as ice, fog, gravel, heavy rain and
hydroplaning), because this increases the
r isk of an accident.
- Switch the cruise control off temporarily
when dr iving in turning lanes, highway exits
or in construction zones .
- Please note that unconsciously "resting"
your foot on the accelerator pedal prevents the cruise contro l from braking. This is due
to the control system being overridden by
the driver's acceleration.
- If a brake system malfunction such as over­
heating occurs when the cruise control sys­
tem is switched on, the braking function in
the system may be switched off. The rest of
the cruise control system functions remain active as long as the indicator light

The brake lights illuminate as soon as the
brakes apply automat ically.
Changing speed

You can also press the accelerator pedal down to increase your speed, e .g . if you want to pass
someone . The speed you saved earlier will re­
sume as soon as you release the accelerator ped­
al.
If, however, you exceed your saved speed by
6 mph (10 km/h) for longer than 5 minutes, the
cruise contro l will turn off temporarily. The green

What can adaptive cruise control do?
The adaptive cruise control system uses video, ra­
dar and ultrasound . Moving vehicles ahead can
be recognized up to about 650 feet (200 m)
away .
On open roads with no traffic, adaptive cru ise
control works like a regular cruise control sys­
tem. The stored speed is ma inta ined. When ap­
proaching a moving vehicle detected up ahead,
the adaptive cruise cont rol system automatically
slows down to match that vehicle's speed and
then maintains the distance that the driver previ­ ously stored. As soon as the system does not de­
tect a vehicle up ahead, adaptive cruise control
accelerates back up to the stored speed.
In stop-and-go traffic, adaptive cruise control can
brake until the vehicle stops and accelerate again
under certain conditions and if this is possible
within the system's limits and capabilities
¢ page 88. Adaptive cruise control will not
make an emergency stop .
Which functions can be controlled?
When you switch adaptive cruise control on, you
can set the current speed as the "control speed"
¢ page 86, Switching on and off.
When driving, you can stop cruise control
¢ page 88 or change the speed ¢ page 8 7 at
any time.
