Before storing the jack, make sure it is wound
back down as far as it wi ll go.
A WARNING
Improper use of the vehicle jack can cause se­
rious persona l injuries.
- Never use the screw driver hex head to
tighten whee l bolts, since the bolts cannot
atta in the necessary tighten ing torque if you
use the hex head, potentially caus ing an ac­
cident.
- The factory-supplied jack is intended on ly
for your vehicle model. Under no circum­
stances should it be used to lift heavy
vehicles or other loads; you r isk injuring
yourself.
- Never start the eng ine when the vehicle is
raised, which could cause an accident.
- Support the veh icle securely with appropri­
ate stands if work is to be performed under­
neath the vehicle; otherwise, there is a po­
tent ial r isk for injury .
- Never use the jack supplied with your Audi
on another vehicle, particularly on a heavier
one. The jack is only suitable for use on the
vehicle it came with.

· Space-saving spare tire (compact spare
tire)
The spare tire/wheel is located in the luggage
compartment under the cargo floor cover. It is
intended for short -term use only.
Taking out the spare tire
" Lift the cargo floor by the plastic handle
c:::;,page 251, fig. 200 .
" Hook the handle into the luggage compartment
weather strip.
"Tur n the large sc rew

" Take out the spare tire.
" Always store the vehicle tool kit, the jack* and
the replaced tire in the luggage compartment

"Unhook the cargo floor before closing the rear
lid .
Using the spare tire (compact spare tire)
The compact spare tire is on ly intended for emer­
gencies until you can reach a repair shop. Replace
it as quickly as poss ible with a standard wheel
and t ire.
There are some restrictions on the use of the compact spare tire. The compact spare tire has
been designed spec ifically for your type of vehi­
cle . It must not be swapped with a compact
spare tire from another type of veh icle .
Snow chains
For technical reasons, the use of snow chains on
the compact spare tire is
not permitted .
If you do have to drive with snow chains and a
front tire fails, mount the spare whee l with tire
instead
of a rear tire. Install the snow chains on
the rear tire and use it to replace the defect ive
front tire .
A WARNING
-Never use the spare tire if it is damaged or if
it is worn down to the tread wear indicators .
- If the spare tire is more than 6 years old,
use it only in an emergency and with ex­
treme caution and careful driving.

-The spare tire is intended on ly for tempora­
ry and short-term use. It shou ld be replaced
as soon as possible with the normal wheel
and t ire.
- After mounting the compact spare tire, the
tire pressure must be checked as soon as
poss ible. The t ire pressure of the compact
spare tire m ust be 4.2 bar; otherwise, you
risk having an accident.
- Do not drive faster than SO mph (80 km/h).
You risk hav ing an accident .
-Avoid full-throttle accelerat ion, heavy brak­
ing, and fast cornering . You risk having an
acc ident.
- Never drive us ing more than one spare
wheel and tire . You risk having an acc ident.
- Normal summer or winter tires must not be
mounted on the compact spare wheel rim .
- For technical reasons, the use of tire chains
on the spare tire is not perm itted. If it is
necessary to drive with t ire chains, the spare
wheel m ust be mounted on the front axle i n
the even t of a flat in a rea r tire. The new ly
avail able front wheel m ust then be insta lled
in place of the rear wheel with the flat tire .
Installing the tire chain before mounting
the wheel and tire is recommended .
- Loose items in the passenger compartment
can cause ser ious personal injury during
hard braking or in an acc ident. Never store
the inflatable spare t ire or jack and too ls in
the passenger compartment.
Replacing wheels
Before changing a wheel
Observe the following precautions for your own
and your passenger's safety when changing a
wheel.
• After you experience a tire failure , pull the car
well away from moving t raff ic and try to reach
level ground before you stop¢ A-
• All passengers sho uld leave the car and move
to a safe location (fo r instance, be hind the
guardrail) ¢

cle from roll ing unintentionally ¢

A WARNING
You or your passengers could be injured while
changing a whee l if you do no t follow these
safety precaut ions:
- If you have a flat tire, move a safe distance
off the road. Turn off the eng ine, turn the
emergency f lashers on a nd use other wa rn­
ing devices to alert other motorists.
- Make sure that passenge rs wait i n a safe
p la ce away from the vehicle and well away
fr om the road and t raff ic.
- To help preven t the veh icle from moving
suddenly and possib ly slipping off the ja ck,
always fu lly set the park ing brake and bloc k
the wheel diagonally opposite the wheel be­ ing changed. When one front whee l is lifted
off the ground, placing the Automatic
Transmission in P (Park) wi ll
not prevent the
veh icle from moving.
- Before you change a wheel, be sure the
ground is level and firm. If necessary, use a
sturdy board under the jack.
- Always store the vehicle tool kit, the jack
and the replaced tire in the luggage com­
partment

(!) Tips
Before changing the wheel, you must activate
the jacking mode, so that the automat ic con­
tro ls for the Adaptive Air Suspension* do not
make it more difficult to lift the vehicle with
the jack ¢

Changing a wheel
When you change a wheel , follow the sequence
described below step -by -step and in exactly that
order .

After changing a wheel
A wheel change is not complete without th e do­
ing the following.
• Always store the veh icle tool kit, the jack* and
the replaced t ire in the luggage compartment
¢ page 131.
• Che ck the tire pressure on the sp are whee l im­
med iate ly after mo unt ing it.
• As soon as possible, have t he
tightening tor­
ques
on all whee l bo lts checked with a torque
wrench . The correct tightening torque is
90 ft
lb
(120 N m).
• Have the flat tire
replaced as soon as possible.

Removing

tool kit) over the whe el bolt cap unti l the inner

Refitting
• Place the caps over the wheel bolts and push
them back on.
The caps are to pro tect and keep the wheel bolts
clean.

- Never use the hexagona l socket in the han­
dle of the screwdr iver to loosen or tighten
the wheel bolts .
- If a wheel bo lt is very tight, you may find it
easier to loosen by ca refully pushing down
on the e nd of the wheel bolt wrench with
one foot only. As you do so, hold on to the
car to keep your balance and take care not
to slip.
Raising the vehicle
The vehicle must be lifted with the jack first be­
fore the wheel can be removed.

nated lifting points and align the jack.
Otherw ise, the vehicle jack cou ld slip and
cause an injury if it does not have suffi­
cient hold on the vehicle.
- A soft or unstable surface under the jack
may cause the vehicle to slip off the jack.
Always provide a firm base for the jack on

the ground. If necessary, use a sturdy board under the jack .
- On hard, slippery surface (such as tiles)
use a rubber mat or similar to prevent the
jack from slipping .
- To help prevent injury to yourself and your
passengers:
- Do not raise the veh icle until you are sure
the jack is securely engaged .
- Passengers must not remain in the vehicle
when it is jacked up.
- Make su re that passengers wait in a safe
place away from the vehicle and well away
from the road and traffic.
- Make sure jack position is correct, adjust
as necessary and then continue to ra ise
the jack .
- Changes in temperatu re or load can affect
the height of the vehicle.
(D Note
Do not lift the ve hicle by the si ll. Pos ition the
vehicle jack only at the des ignated l ift ing
po ints on the sill. Othe rwise, your veh icle will
be damaged.
(j) Tips
The vehicle jack mode* switches off automati ­
cally at speeds above 6 mph (10 km/h) .
Removing and installing the sill extension

Taking the wheel off/installing the spare
Follow these instructions step-by-step for chang­
ing the wheel.

After you have loosened all wheel bol ts and
raised the vehicle off the ground, remove and re ­
place the whee l as fo llows:
Remo ving the wheel

wheel bolt and set it aside on a
clean surface

slightly .
.. Remove the alignment pin and insert and tight­
en the remaining wheel bol t slight ly like the
rest.
• Turn the jack handle counter -clockw ise to lower
the vehicle unt il the jack is fully released .
• Use the wheel bo lt wrench to t ighten a ll wheel
bolts firmly

posite one, to keep the wheel centered.

When removing o r installing the wheel, the
rim co uld h it the brake rotor and damage t he
rotor . Work carefully and have a second per ­
son help you .
@ Tips
Never use the he xagonal socke t in the hand le
of the sc rewdriver to loosen or t ighten the
whee l bolts.
- Pull the reversible blade from the screwdr iv­
er before you use the hexagona l socket in
the handle to t urn the whee l bolts .
- When mount ing tires with
unidirectional
tread design
make sure the tread pattern is
pointed the right way

- T he wheel bolts shou ld be clean and easy to
turn. Check for dirt and corrosion on the mating surfaces of both the wheel and the
hub. Remove all dirt from these surfaces be­
fore remounting the wheel.

Tires with unidirectional tread design
Tires with unidirectional tread design must be
mounted with their tread pattern pointed in the
right direction .
Using a spare tire with a tread pattern
intended for use in a specific direction
When using a spare ti re with a tread pa tte rn in­
tended fo r use in a spec ific d irection, p lease note
the following:
- The direct io n of rotat io n is marked by an arrow
o n the side of the tire.
- If the spare tire has to be installed in the incor­
rect d irection, use the spare tire only tempora ­
rily s ince the tire w ill not be ab le to achieve its
opt imum pe rformance cha racter istics with re­
gard to aq uaplaning, noise and we ar.
- We recommend that you pay particular atten­
t ion to this fac t during wet weathe r and t hat
yo u ad just yo ur speed to m atch road condi­
t ions.
- R eplace t he flat t ire wi th a new one a nd have it
i nsta lled on yo ur vehicle as soon as pos sible to
res to re t he handling advantages of a unidirec ­
tiona l tire .
Notes on wheel changing
Please read the information q page 238, New
tires or wheels
if you are going to use a spare tire
which is different from the tires on your vehicle.
After you change a tire:
- Check the tire pressure on the spare immedi­
ately after installation .
- Have the wheel bolt tightening torque
che cked with a torque wrench as s oon as pos­
sible by your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified service station.
- With steel and alloy wheel rims , the wheel
bolts are correctly tightened at a torque of 90
ft lb
(120 Nm) .
- If you notice that the wheel bolt s are corroded
and difficult to turn while changing a tire ,
they should be replaced before you check the
tightening torque.

- Replace the flat tire with a new one and have
it installed on your vehicle as soon as possi­
ble. Remount the wheel cover.
Until then , drive with extra care and at reduced
speeds.

- If you are going to equip yo ur vehicle with
tires or r ims which differ from those which
were facto ry installed, then be sure to read
the information
q page 238, New tires or
wheels.
- Always make sure the damaged wheel or
eve n a flat tire and the jack and tool kit are
properly secured in the l uggage compart­
men t and a re not loose in the passenger
compa rtme nt.
- In an accident or sudde n maneuver they
could fly forward, i njuring anyone i n the ve­
hicle .
- Always s to re damaged wheel, jack and tools
secure ly in the luggage comp artment . Oth­

plies specifica lly to the case of yo ur vehicle
being jum p starte d. When you a re giv ing a

Towing with a tow truck
General hints
Your Audi requires special handling for towing.
The fo llow ing informa tion is to be used by com­
mercial tow truck operators who know how to op­
era te the ir equipmen t sa fe ly .
- Never tow your Audi. Towing will cause dam­
age to the engine and transmi ssion.
- Never wrap the safety chains or winch cables
around the brake l ines .
- To prevent unnecessary damage, your Audi
must be transported with a flat bed truck.
- To load the vehicle on to the flat bed , use the
towing loop found in the vehicle tools and at­
tach to the front or rear anchorage

Only install the rear towing Loop when it is need­
ed.

There are threads located beh ind the right side of
the rear bumper where a tow ing loop can be in­
stalled . The threads are loca ted behind a cover.
.. Remove the towing loop from the vehicle tool
kit .
.. Press inward strongly to the button side of the
cap to remove it from the bumper

.. Screw the towing loop tightly in the threaded
hole as far as it will go and tighten it with the
wheel wrench

Remove the towing loop when you a re done using
it and place it back in the vehicle tool kit. Always
keep the towing loop in the vehicle.

ly, it cou ld come out of the threaded hole

Check carefully to make sure the hook-up is

Vehicle transport
Whenever you have your vehicle transported, be
sure to note the following:
(D Note
Mount the tie-down chains/cables over the
running surface (c ircumference) of the tires.
Never secure the vehicle by the axle, the sus­
pension struts or the front or rear towline
eye. For technica l reasons, the pressure in the
suspension struts may change during the
transport and this will adversely affect vehicle handling.

Safety compliance sticker
The safety compliance sticker is your assurance
that your new veh icle complies with all applicable
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards which
were in effect at the time the vehicle was manu­
factured. You can find this sticker on the door
jamb on the driver's side. It shows the month and
year of production and the vehicle identification
number of your vehicle (perforation) as well as
the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and the Gross Axle We ight Rating (GAWR).
High voltage warning label
The high voltage warning label is located in the
engine compartment next to the engine hood re­
lease. The spark ignition system complies w ith
the Canadian standard ICES-002.
Weights
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), and
the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) for front
and rear are listed on a sticker on the door jamb
on the driver 's side.
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating includes the
weight of the basic vehicle plus full fuel tank, oil
and coolant, plus maximum load, which includes
passenger weight (150 lbs/68 kg per designated
seat ing position) and luggage weight¢,&. .
