Instruments and indicator lights
-The front spoiler also he lps to distr ib ute
cooling air while driving . If the spoiler is
damaged, the cooling effect w ill be im
paired and the risk of the engine overheat
i ng will increase. See an author ized Audi
dealer or authorized Audi Service Fac ility for
ass istance.

Applies to: ve hicles w ith d iese l engines
Due to the high eff ic iency of these engines,
the engine may not always reac h opera ting
t em perature i n cold outside tempe ra tur es.
This is normal and not a cause for con cern .
Tachometer
The tachometer displays the engine speed in rev
olutions per minute (RPM).
You shou ld shift to the next lowest gea r whe n
the speed is below 1,S00 R PM. T he begin ning of
the re d zone in the tachome ter ind icates the
maximum permissible engine speed fo r all gea rs
once the engine has been bro ken in and when it is
warmed up to operating temperature . Before
reaching the red zone, you should shift into the
next h igher gea r, c hoose the Dor S selecto r lever
position, or remove your foot from the accelera
tor pedal.

Upshifting early helps you to save fuel and re
duce operating no ise.

Applies to: S models
The engine speed is limi ted when the eng ine
is cold -the full e ngine o utp ut is not availa
ble. When the engi ne is at ope rating temper
at ure, the re d a rea i n the ta chome ter move s
t o a higher RPM range.

Indicator Lights
· Description
The ind icator lights in the instrument cluster
bl ink or tur n on. They ind icate fu nctions or mal
funct io ns.
Messages may appear w ith some indicator lights.
A war ning s ignal will sound at the same time.
The ind icator lights and messages i n the instru
ment clus ter d isp lay can be cove red by ot he r dis
plays. To show them ag ai n, se lec t t he tab for in
dicator lights and messages using the mu ltifu nc
tion steering whee l
c> page 21. If there are sev
eral ma lfunctions, you can display them one at a
time us ing the thumbwheel.
Some indicator lights in the d isplay can disp lay in
severa l co lors .
Central indicator light

If a message appears together with a central in
dicator light . or
U. the centra l ind icator light
will indicate the priority of the warning. If a
white indicator light also appea rs, the centra l in

Check ing and F illing
"' Clamp the charger terminal clamps to the jump
start pins according to the instruct ions. (pin un
der the red cover = "positive", pin with hexago
nal head = "negative").
"' Insert the power cable for the charging device
into the socket and switch the device on .
"' At the end of the charging process, switch the
charge r off and pull the power cab le out of the
socket.
"' Remove the c ha rge r termi nal clamps.
"' Close the red cover on the posi tive te rm inal.
"' Close the hood

A WARNING
- A highly explosive mixture of gases can form
when charging batter ies. On ly charge the
vehicle battery in well-vent ilated areas.
- A drained battery can freeze at tempera
tures a round 32 °F (0 °C). A frozen or
thawed veh icle battery must not be charged
and must not be used anymore . The batte ry
hous ing can crac k an d battery acid can leak
o ut if ice fo rms, wh ic h increases the r is k of
an exp losion and ch emical burns. Contact an
authoriz e d Au di dea ler o r aut ho riz e d Aud i
Service Facility for mo re inform ation .
- Do no t conne ct o r dis co nne ct the c hargi ng
cable while charg ing because th is increases
the risk of an exp losion .

To reduce the risk of lime scale deposits on the
spray no zzles, use clean water with low amo unts
of calcium. Always add window cleaner to the wa
ter. When the ou tside temperatures are cold , an
anti -freezing agent shou ld be added to the water
so tha t it does not freeze .
(D Note
-The concentration of ant i-freez ing agent
must be adjusted to the ve hicle operat ing
condi tions i n the respective cl imate . A con
c entration that is too h igh can lead to vehi
cl e damage.
- N ever add radia to r anti-free ze or other addi
t ives to the washer fluid.
- Do not use a glass cleaner t hat contains
pai nt so lvents, because th is could damage
t h e pain t.
Service interval display
The service in terval display detects when your ve
hicle is due for service.
The serv ice interval d isplay wo rks in two stages:
-Inspection or oil change rem inder: afte r a cer-
tain dis tance drive n, a message appears in the ..,.

Weights
Gross V ehicl e We ight Rat ing
The G ross Vehicle Weight Ra ting (GVWR) , and
the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) for front
and rear are listed on a sticker on the door jamb
on th e driver's side .
The G ross Vehicle Weight Ra ting includes the
weight of the basic vehicle p lus full fuel tank, oi l
and coolan t, p lus maximum load, which includes
passeng er w eight (150 lbs/68 kg p er designated
seating position) and luggage weight ¢&. .
Gross Axle W eight Rating
The G ross Ax le We ight Rating is the max imum
load that can be applied at each axle of the vehi
cle

Vehicle capacity weight
The vehicle capacity we ight (max . load) is l isted
either on the dr iver's side B-pillar o r inside the
fue l filler f lap .
& WARNING
-The actual Gross Axle Weight Rating at the
front and rear axles shou ld not exceed the
permissible weights, and their combination
must not exceed the Gross Veh icle Weight
Rating .
- Exceeding perm iss ible weight ratings can
result in vehicle damage, acc idents and per
so nal injury .

-The vehicle capacity weight figures apply
when the load is d istr ibuted evenly in the
vehicle (passengers and luggage) . When
transport ing a heavy load in the luggage
compartment, carry the load as near to the
rea r axle as possible so that the vehicle's
hand ling is not impaired .
- Do not exceed the maximum perm iss ible
axle loads or the maximum gross vehicle
we ight. Always remember that the ve hicle's
hand ling will be affected by the extra load .
T herefore , adjust your speed accordingly.
- Always observe local regulations.

When driving on poor roads, by curbs and on
steep ramps, make sure that low -hanging com
ponents such as the spoiler and exhaust system
do not come into contact with these or they could

be damaged. This especially applies to vehicles
that are equipped with adaptive air suspension *
and when the vehicle is at full load.
