Display brightness
You can adjust the display brightness in the
MMI. The display brightness decreases auto ­
matica lly as the amo unt of light decreases.
The basic leve l of brightness is adjusted with
the instrument illumination
c:> page 47.
(D Note
To prevent scratches on the glass covering
the Head-up Disp lay, do not place any ob­
jects in the projection opening.
@ Tips
- Sunglasses with polarization fi lters and
unfavorable lighting conditions can af­
fect the display.
- A specia l windshield is needed for the
Head-up Display function.
- For information on cleaning, refer to
c:> table on poge 215.
On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) II! in
the instrument cluster is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
The warning/indicator light illuminates when
the ignition is switched on and goes o ut after
the engine starts and the idle has stabilized.
This indicates that the MIL is working proper­
ly .
If the light does not go out after the engine
is started, or illuminates while you are driv­
ing, a ma lfunction may exist in the engine sys­
tem. If the light illuminates, the catalytic con­
verter could be damaged.
Continue driving
with reduced power (avoid­
ing sustained high speeds and/or rapid accel­
erations) and have the condition corrected.
Contact your authorized Audi dealer .
If the light illuminates, the electronic speed
limiter may also be malfunctioning. For more information

An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate
c:> page 221.
On-Board Diagnostics

On-Board D iagnost ics monitors the compo­
nents of your em iss ion control system . Each
monitored component in your engine system
has been assigned a code . In case of a mal­
function, the component will be identified
and the fault stored as a code in the control
module memory.
T he MIL light may also illuminate if there is a
leak in the on-board fuel vapor recovery sys­
tem.
If the light illum inates after a refuelling,
stop the vehicle and make sure the fuel filler
cap is properly closed
c:> page 221.
In order to make an accurate diagnosis, the
stored data can only be displayed using spe ­
cial diagnostic equipment (generic scan tool
for OBD).
In order to connect the special diagnostic
equipment, push the plug into the Data Link
Connector (DLC). The DLC is located to the
right of the hood release
r=.> fig . 16 .
Your authorized Audi dea ler or a qualified
serv ice station can interpret the code and per­
form the necessary repair.
A WARNING
Do not use the diagnostic connector for
personal use. Incorrect usage can cause

malfunctions, which can increase the risk
of a coll is ion!
Electronic speed limiter

Your vehicle may be factory equipped with
tires that are rated for a maximum speed of
130 mph (210 km/h) . This is less than the
maximum speed of your vehicle. To reduce the
risk of sudden tire failure and loss of control if
the veh icle is ope rated at excessive speeds,
your veh icle also has an elect ronic speed limit­
er. The electronic speed limiter prevents your
vehicle from going faster than the tire speed
rating . For more information

If the engine control unit receives faulty vehi­
cle road speed s ignals, the Malfunction Indi­
cator Lamp (MIL)

occurs, contact the nearest authorized Audi
dealer for assistance.
S models
Your veh icle's top speed is electronically limit­
ed to 155 mph (250 km/h).
I f the engine control unit receives faulty vehi­
cle roadspeed signals, the Malfunction Indica­
tor Lamp (MIU
¢,llij will illum inate. If this oc­
curs, contact the nea rest authorized Audi
dealer for assistance.

Always observe the posted speed limits
and adjust your speed to suit prevailing
road, traffic and weather conditions. Never
drive your vehicle faster than the maxi­
mum speed rating of the tires insta lled.

The headlights only wo rk when the ignition is
sw itched on. Wh ile start ing the eng ine or
when switching off the ig nition, the head­
lights will go off and on ly the s ide marker

All-weather lights*
In vehicles with al l-wea ther lights, the front
li gh ts a re a dju sted au tom atically so that you
are less like ly to see glare from your own
head lig hts, for example when driving on a wet
road.
Automatic headlight range cont rol*
T he hea dlights do not blind oncoming traffic
i f the veh icle load changes . The headlight
range also ad justs automatica lly when brak­
ing and acce lerating .
Light functions
The following light funct ions are avai lab le de­
pend ing on veh icle equipment and o nly func­
tion when the lig ht sw itch is in the AU TO posi­
tio n. You can deactivate these functions in the
MMI under
Audi adaptive light~ page 45.
Vehicles wi th St atic corn ering light* : the cor ­
nering light sw itches on a utomat ica lly when
the steering wheel is turned at a certain angle
at spee ds up to approx imately 44 mph
(70 km/h) and when the turn signa l is activat­
ed at speeds up to approx imately 25 mph
(40 km/h) . The a rea to the side of the vehicle
is illum inated better when turn ing.
Vehicles with
Dynamic curve light* : the curve
light only functions at speeds between ap­
proximate ly 6 mph (10 km/h) and 68 mph
(110 km/h) and adapts itse lf to the c urves in
the road .

_& WARNING
-Automatic headlights are only intended
to assist the driver . They do not relieve
the driver of his responsibility to check
the headlights and to turn them on man­
ually according to the current light and
visibility conditions. For example, fog
cannot be detected by the light sensors.
So always switch on the headlights
io
under these weather conditions and
when driving in the dark.
- Crashes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by other motorists. Always turn on
the headlights so that you can see ahead
and so that others can see your car from
the back.
- Please observe legal regulations when
using the lighting systems described.
(D Note
The rear fog lights should only be turned
on in accordance with traffic regulation, as
the lights are bright for following traffic.
(D Tips
- The light sensor* for automatic head­
light range control* is located in the rear
view mirror mount. You should therefore not apply any stickers to the windshield
in this area in order to prevent malfunc­
tions or failures.
- In the event of a light sensor malfunc­
tion, the driver is notified in the instru­
ment cluster display ~
page 23 .
-You will hear a warning tone if you open
the driver door when the exterior lights
are switched on.
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of
the headlights, turn signals and tail
lights can fog over due to the tempera­
ture difference between the inside and
outside. They will clear shortly after
switching them on. This does not affect
the service life of the lighting.

Emergency flasher
The emergency flasher makes other motorists
aware that you or your vehicle are in an emer­
gency situation .

When the emergency flasher is on, all four
turn signals blink at the same time. The turn
signal indicator lights

cluster, as well as the light in the emergency
flasher switch
& blink likewise. The emergen­
cy flashers also work when the ignition is
turned off.
The emergency flashers will turn on automati­
cally if you are in an accident where the airbag has deployed.
@ Tips
You should turn on the emergency flashers
when:
- you a re the last vehicle standing in a traf­
fic jam so that any other vehicles coming
can see you, or when
- your vehicle has broken down or you are
in an emergency situation, or when
- your vehicle is being towed by a tow
truck or if you are towing another vehicle
behind you.
Adjusting the exterior lighting
The settings ore adjusted in the MMI.

Automatic headlights
You can adjust the following settings in the
Automatic headlights menu:

according to the sensitivity of the light sensor.

Daytime running lights
USA models :
You can switc h the dayt ime run­
ning lights
on and off .
Canada models:
The function cannot be
turned off . It is activated automatica lly each
time the ign ition is switched on. This menu
item is shown "greyed out".
Coming home, Leaving home
The coming home function illuminates the
area outside the vehicle when yo u switch the
ignition off and open the driver's door. To turn
the function on, select
Lights when leaving
car > On .
The leaving home function illuminates the
area outside the vehicle when you un lock the
vehicle. To turn the funct ion on, select
Lights
when unlocking car > On .
The coming home and leaving home functions
only operate when it is dark and the light
switch is in the
AUTO pos ition.
Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever on the left side of the steering col­
umn is used to operate the turn signals and
the high beam as well as the headlight flash­
er.

Head-up Display*.

The instrument illumination (for dia ls and
needles) lights on when the ign it ion is
sw itched on and the vehicle lights are
turned off. As the daylight fades, the illu­ m ination of the dials likewise d ims auto ­
mat ica lly and will go out comp lete ly when
the o utside light is ve ry low . This feat ure is
meant to remind you to switch on the
headlight s when o utsi de lig ht condi tions
become poor.

The luggage compartment cover is not a
surface for storing objects . Objects p laced

©-Single wipe. If you hold the lever in this
position longer, the wipers switch from slow
wiping to fast wiping.
® -Clean the windshield . The wipers wipe
one time after several seconds of driving to
remove water droplets. You can switch this
function off by moving the lever to position ®
within 10 seconds after the afterwipe. The af­
terw ipe funct ion is reactivated the next time
you switch the ignition on.
Cleaning the headlights*. The headlight wash­
er system * operates only when the headlights
are on. If you move the lever to position @,
the headlights and the night vision assistant
camera* are washed in intervals.
A WARNING
-The rain sensor is only designed to assist
and support the driver.
It remains entire­
ly the driver's responsibility to monitor
outside weather conditions and to man­
ually activate the wipers as soon as rain
or drizzle reduces visibility through the
windshield.
- The windshield must not be treated with
water-repellent materials. They can in­
crease glare under poor visibility condi­
tions such as wetness, darkness, or when
the sun is low on the horizon. In addi­
tion, they can cause the windshield wip­
ers to chatter.
- Properly functioning windshield wiper blades are required for a clear view and
safe driving~
page 49, Replacing
windshield wiper blades.
0 Note
- In the case of frost, check whether the
windshield wiper blades are frozen to
the windshield. Switching on the wind­
shield wipers can damage the wiper blades!
- Prior to using a car wash, the windshield
wiper system must be switched off (lever in position @). This helps to prevent un­
intentional switching on and damage to
the windshield wiper system.

-Do not use the wipers to clear a frosted
window. Using the wipers as a conven­
ient ice scraper will destroy the wiper
blades.
(D Tips
- The windshield wipers are switched off
when the ignition is off. Activate the
windshield wipers after the ignition is
switched back on by moving the wind­
shield wiper lever to any position.
- Worn or dirty windshield wiper blades
result in streaking. This can affect the
rain sensor function. Check your wind­
shield wiper blades regularly.
- The washer fluid nozzles of the wind­
shield washer system are heated at low
temperatures when the ignition is on.
- When stopping temporarily, e .g. at a
traffic light, the set speed of the wind­
shield wipers is automatically reduced by
one speed.
Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the windshield wiper blades when they
begin to leave streaks.
.,. Place the windshield wiper arms in the serv­
ice position. Refer to~

.,. Use a soft cloth and glass cleaner to clean
the windshield wiper blades.
A WARNING
Dirty windshield wiper blades can impair
your view. This can lead to accidents.

you can select if the mirrors fold in automati­
cally when you lock the vehicle ~
page 35.
Tilt function for the passenger's mirror
To help you see the curb when backing into a
parking space, the surface of the mirror tilts
slightly. The knob must be in the P position
for this to happen.
You can adjust the tilted mirror surface by
turning the knob in the desired direction.
When you move out of reverse and into anoth­
er gear, the new mirror position is stored and
assigned to the key you are using.
The mirror goes back into its original position
once you drive forward faster than 9 mph (15
km/h) or switch the ignition off.
.&_ WARNING
- Curved (i.e. convex) mirror surfaces in­
crease your field of view. Remember that
vehicles or other objects will appear
smaller and farther away than when seen in a flat mirror.
If you use this mirror to
estimate distances of following vehicles
when changing lanes, you could estimate
incorrectly and cause an accident.
(D Note
-If the mirror housing is moved uninten­
tionally (for example, while parking your
vehicle), then you must first fold the mi r­
ror electrically. Do not readjust the mir­
ror housing manually. You could damage
the motor which controls the mirror.
- If you wash the vehicle in an automatic
car wash, you must fold the exterior mir­
rors in to reduce the risk of damage to
the mirrors. Never fold power folding ex­
terior mirrors* by hand. Only fold them in and out using the power controls.

Manual anti-glare adjustment
"' Move the small lever (located on the bottom
edge of the mirror) to the rear.
Automatically dimming mirrors*
"'To dim the rearview mirror and both exterior
mirrors, press the@button. The diode @
turns on. The rearview and exterior mirrors
dim automatically when light shines on
them, for example from headlights on ave­
hicle to the rear.
&_ WARNING
= Electrolyte fluid can leak from automatic
dimming mirrors if the glass is broken.
Electrolyte fluid can irritate skin, eyes and
respiratory system.
~
- Repeated or prolonged exposure to elec­
trolyte can cause irritation to the respira­
tory system, especially among people
with asthma or other respiratory condi­
tions. Get fresh air immediately by leav­
ing the vehicle or, if that is not possible,
open windows and doors all the way.
- If electrolyte gets into the eyes, flush
them thoroughly with large amounts of
clean water for at least 15 minutes·

- If electrolyte contacts skin, flush affect­
ed area with clean water for at least 15 minutes and then wash affected area
with soap and water; medical attention

A WARNING
-Never adjust the driver's or front pas­
senger's seat while the vehicle is moving.
If you do this while the veh icle is moving,
you will be out of position . A lways adjust
the driver's or front passenger's seat
when the vehicle is not moving.
- Be careful when adjusting the seat
he ight. Check to see that no one is in the
way, or serious injury could result!
- Because the seats can be electrically ad­
justed with the ignit ion off, never leave
children unattended in the vehicle. Unsu­
pervised use o f the electric seat adjust­
ments may cause serious injury.
- To reduce the risk of injury in the case of
sudden braking or accident, front pas­
sengers must never ride in a moving ve­
hicle with the backrest reclined. Safety
belts and the airbag system on ly offer
maximum protection when the backrest
is upright and the safety belts are prop­
erly positioned on the body . The more
the backrest is reclined, the greater the
ris k of persona l inju ry from an incorrect
seating position and improperly posi­
tioned safety belts.
(D Tips
- The massage function switches off auto­
matically after approximately 10 mi­
nutes.
- Th e side bolsters* deflate when the driv­
er's doo r is opened. This allows you to
enter and exit comfortably. The side bol­
sters inflate again once you begin driv­
ing.
