of a flat tire, park the vehicle on a leve l surface .

The vehicle tool kit, vehicle ja ck*, tire mobility
ki t* and compressor are stored in the luggage
compartment under the ca rgo floor cover .

the cover or the spare tire *.
A WARNING
Improper use of the vehicle jack can cause se­
rious pe rsonal injuries.
-Never use the screw driver hex head to
tighten wheel bolts, since the bolts cannot
attain the necessary tightening torque if yo u
use the hex head, potentially causing an ac­
cident.
-The factory-supplied jack is intended only
for your vehicle model. Under no circum­ stances shou ld it be used to lift heavy
veh icles o r othe r loads; you risk injuri ng
yourse lf .
-Never start the engine when the vehicle is
raised, which could cause an accident.
-Support the vehicle securely with appropri­
ate stands if wo rk is to be performed under­
neath the vehicle; otherwi se, there is a po­
t ential risk fo r injury .
-Never use the jack supplied with your Aud i
on another vehicle, particularly on a heavier
o n e. Th e jack is o nly sui tab le for u se on the
veh icle i t came wi th.

nance-free.

-If the tire is too severely damaged, see an
authorized Aud i dealer or authorized Aud i
Service Facility for assistance.

You can give the used tire sealant bottle to an
authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Serv ice Facility for disposal.

Remember to obtain a new bottle of sealant
from an authorized Audi dealer or authorized
Audi Serv ice Facility after repairing a tire.
Replacing wheels
Before changing a wheel
Observe the following precautions for your own
and your passenger's safety when changing a
wheel.

level ground

You or your passengers could be inju red w hile

safety precautions:
- If you have a flat ti re, move a safe d ista nee
off th e road. Turn off the engine, turn the
emergency flashers on and use other warn ­
ing devices to alert other motorists .
- Make sur e that passengers wait in a safe
place away from the vehicle and we ll away
from the road and traffic.

- To help prevent the vehicle from moving
suddenly and possibly s lipping off the jack,
always fully set the parking brake and block
the front and back of the wheel diagonally
opposite the wheel being changed. When
one front wheel is lifted off the ground,
p lacing the Automat ic Transmission in P
(Pa rk) w ill
not prevent the vehicle from
mov ing.
- Before you change a wheel, be sure the
ground is level and firm. If necessary, use a
sturdy board under the jack.
- Always store the vehicle tool kit, the jack
and the replaced tire in the lu ggage com ­
pa rtment

Before changing the wheel, you must activate
the jacking mode, so that the automatic con­
trols for the Adaptive Air Suspension* do not
make it more difficult to lift the vehicle with
the jack

Changing a wheel
When you change a wheel, follow the sequence
described below step-by-step and in exactly that
order .
1. Act ivate the vehicle jack mode* ca> page 238 .
2. Remove the decorative wheel cover* or the
wheel bolt caps*. For more details see also
¢ page 23 7, Decorative wheel covers or
¢ page 237, Wheels with wheel bolt caps.
3. Loosen the wheel bolts ¢ page 238.
4. Locate the proper mounting point for the
jack and alig n the jack below that po int
¢ page 238 .
5. Raise the car with the jack ca> page 238.
6. Remove the wheel with the flat tire and then
install
the spare ca> page 240.
7. T ighten all whee l bolts lightly.
8 .
Lower the vehicle with the jack.
9. Use the wheel bolt wrench and
firmly tighten

10. Replace the decorat ive wheel cover* or the

The caps are to protect and keep the whee l bolts
clean.
Loosening and tightening the wheel bolts
Th e wheel bolts must be loosened b efore raising
the vehicle.

one foot only. As you do so, ho ld on to the
car to keep your balance and ta ke care not
to slip .
Raising the vehicle
The vehicle must be lifted with the jack first be­
fore the wheel can be removed.

Taking the wheel off/installing the spare
Follow these instructions step-by-step for chang­
ing the wheel .

When remov ing o r installin g the wheel, the
rim co uld hit the brake rotor/ce ramic brake

- Pull the reversible blade from the screwdr iv­

- The wheel bolts sho uld be clean and easy to
t u rn. Check fo r dirt and corrosion on the
mating surfaces of both the wheel and t he
hub. Remove all d irt from these s urfaces be­
fore remounti ng the whee l.

Emerg enc y assis tance
There are some restrictions on the use of the
spare tire. The spare tire has been designed spe ­
cifically for your type of vehicle. Do not replace it
with the spare tire from another type of vehicle.

The tire pressure must be 61 PSI (4.2 bar).
Remov ing th e spar e tire
.,. Fold the cargo floor up to the rear bench seat .
.,. Turn the handwheel counter-clockw ise and re-
move it .
.,. Remove the spare t ire.
Snow chains
Using snow chains on the spare tire is not perm it ­
ted due to technical reasons .
If you have to drive with snow chains and a front
tire fa ils, mount the spare t ire in place of a rear
tire . Install the snow cha ins on the rear tire that
you removed, and install that in place of the
front tire that failed.
A WARNING
-
- After installing a spa re t ire, the tire p res­
s u re must be checked as quickly as poss ible.
- Do not drive faster than SO mph (80 km/h)
with a spare tire. Driv ing faster than that in­
creases the risk of an a ccident.
- Avoid full-throttle accelerat ion, heavy b rak­
ing, and fast cornering, because this in­
creases the risk of an accident.
- Never dr ive using more than one spa re t ire,
because th is increases the r isk of an acci­
dent.
- Norma l tires o r winter tires m ust not be
mounted on the spare tire rim .
- Only use the co llapsible spare tire in emer­
gencies and dr ive very carefu lly, especially if
it is more than 6 years o ld .

Towing with a tow truck
General hints
Your Audi requires special handling for towing .
The follow ing informa tion is to be used by com­
mercia l tow tr uck operators who know how to op ­
e rate the ir equip men t sa fely.
- Never tow your Audi. Towing will cause dam­
age to the engine and transmission .
- Never wrap the safety chains or winch cables
around the brake line s.
- To prevent unnecessary damage, your Audi
must be transported with a flatbed tru ck .

pen, fo r example, when heavy compo­

missi on a re removed .

-Be aw are of the fo llow ing po ints b efor e lift­
ing the vehicle:
-The vehicle should never be lifted or
jacked up from underneath the engine oil
pan, the transmission housing, the front
or rear axle or the body side members.
This could lead to serious damage .
-To avoid damage to the underbody or
chassis frame, a rubber pad must be in­
serted between the floor jack and the lift
points .

qu ire special tools, testing devices and other
equ ipment available to specially trained work­
shop personnel i n order to assure proper per ­
formance, reliab ility and safety of the veh icle and
its many systems .
Improper maintenance, adjustments and repairs
can impair the operation and reliab ility of your
veh icle and eve n void your vehicle warranty .
Therefo re, proof of servicing in accordance w ith
the ma intenance sc hedule may be a condition fo r
up hold ing a possible wa rra nty claim made wi thin
the warranty pe riod.
Above all , operational safety can be adversely af­
fected, c reating unnecessa ry risks fo r you and
your p assengers.
If in doubt about any servicing, have it done by
your author ized Audi dealer or any other properly
eq uipped and qualified workshop . We strongly
urge yo u to g ive your author ized Audi dealer the
opportu nity to pe rform a ll scheduled ma inte ­
nance and necessary repairs. Your dealer has the
facilities, origina l parts and train ed sp ecialists to
keep your veh icle running properly.
Performing limited maint enance yourself
The fo llow ing pages describe a limited number of
procedures w hich can be performed on your ve hi­
cle with ordinary tools, should the need arise and
trained personne l be unavai lable . Before pe r­
forming any of these procedures, always thor­
ough ly read a ll of the app licab le text and carefu l­
ly follow the instructions g iven . A lways rigorously
observe the
WARNING S provided .
Before you check anything in the engine com ­
partment , alw ays read a nd heed all WARNINGS
c> .&. and c> .&. in Working in the engine compart­
ment on page 193 .

A WARNING
- Ser ious personal in jury may occur as a result
of imp roperly performed maintenance, ad­
justments or repairs .
- Always be extreme ly careful when work ing
on the vehicle . Always follow commonly ac­
cepted safety practices and general com­ mon sense. Never r is k personal in jury.
- Do not attempt any of the maintenance,
checks or repairs described on the following pages if you are not fu lly fam il iar with these
or other proce dures with respect to t he ve­
hicle, or are uncertain how to proceed.
- Do not do any work wi thout the prope r tools
an d equi pmen t. H ave the necessary wo rk
done by your authorized Au di dealer or an ­
other properly equipped and qualified work­
shop.
- The engine compartment of any motor vehi ­
cle is a potentially hazardous area . Never
reach into the area around or touch the radi­
ator fan. It is temperature controlled and
can switch on suddenly - even when the en­
gine is off . The radiato r fan switches on au­
tomatically when the coolan t reaches a cer­
tain tempe rature and w ill cont inue to run
until the coolant temperature d rops.
- Always sw itch off the ignition before anyone
gets under the vehicle.
- Always support your vehicle with safety
stands if it is necessary to work underneath
the vehicle. The jack supp lied with the veh i­
cle is no t adequate fo r th is pu rpose a nd
could collapse causing serious personal in­
jury .
- If you must wor k unde rneath the vehicle
w ith the wheels on the g round, always make
sure the vehicle is on level ground, that the
wheels a re always sec urely blocked and that
the engine cannot be started.
- Always make sure the transmission se lector
lever (automatic t ransm iss ion) is in P (Park
position) and the pa rk b rake is applied .
