You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with remote control. A mechanical key is integrat
ed in the remote control key

@ Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for con
stant use.
It should only be used in an emer
gency. Keep it in a safe place and do not carry it on your key ring.
Key replacement
If you lose a key, contact your authorized Audi
dealer immediately to have the
lost key disa
bled. Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Personal comfort settings
If two peop le use one vehicle, it is recom
mended that each person always uses "their
own" master key . When the ignition is switch
ed off or when the vehicle is locked, personal
convenience settings for the follow ing sys
tems are stored and assigned to the remote
master key.
- Automatic climate control
- Central locking system
- Rear window sun blind
- Amb ient lighti ng
- Seat memory
- Parking system* - Adaptive cruise control*

Aud i lane assist*
- Aud i side assist*
-Audi drive select
- Night vision assistant*
- Heated steering wheel *
T he stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open
the doors or when you switch the ignition on.
A WARNING
-- Do not leave your vehicle unattended. Al
ways take your ignit ion key with you and
lock your vehicle. Entry by unauthorized
persons could endanger you or result in
theft or damage the vehicle.
- Do not leave ch ildren unattended in the
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle
keys. Unguarded access to the keys pro
vides children the opportunity to start
the engine and/or activate vehicle sys
tems such as the power windows, etc.
Unsupervised operation of any vehicle
system by children can result in serious
injury.
(D Tips
- The operation of the remote control key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer
ence from transm itters in the vic inity of
the vehicle working in the same frequen
cy range (e .g. a cell phone, radio equip
ment).
- For security reasons, replacement keys
are only available from Audi dealers.

• The check light turns on brief ly once when a
button is pressed, and during an "inqu iry"
by the convenience key system .

• If the check light does not come on, the
battery is dead and has to be replaced. In
add ition, when the battery is dead
the m
indicator light appears in the instrument
cluster display as well as the message
Please change the key battery .
Master key battery replacement
We recommend having the battery changed
by an authorized Audi dealer. However, if you
wish to replace the dead battery yourse lf , pro
ceed as follows:
• Remove the mechanical key
c:> page 29.
.. Press the re lease button ® c:> fig. 15 on the
battery holder and at the same time pull the
battery holder out of the master key in the
direction of the arrow .
.. Install the new battery CR 2032 with the
"+" sign facing down.
• Push the battery holder carefu lly into the
master key.
• Install the mechan ical key.
(® For the sake of the environment
Dispose of dead batteries properly so as
not to poll ute the environment.
(D Tips
The replacement battery must be the
same specification as the original.
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthor
ized use of your vehicle .
A computer chip inside your key automatically
deact ivates the electronic immobilizer when
the key is inside the vehicle . When you remove
the key from the vehicle, the elect ronic immo
bilizer is automatically activated once again.
& WARNING
Always take the key with you when you
leave the vehicle. The key can disarm the
e lectronic engine immobilizer and permit
an unauthorized person to start the engine
and enable operation of the vehicle

- The vehicle cannot be started if an unau
thorized key is used. The vehicle may not
start if another radio device such as a key

Power locking system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the rear lid simultaneously.
You can lock a nd u nlock the veh icle centrally .
You have the following choices:
- Remote master key r:::>
page 32,
-Door handles with convenience key*
r::::> page 32,
-Lock cylinder at the dr iver's door
r::::> page 33, or
- Power locking switc h inside r:::>
page 33 .
Selective unlocking
When they a re closed , the door and rea r lid
a re lo ck ed. When unlocki ng, you can set in the
MMI whether only the driver's door or the en
tire vehicle sho uld be un locked r:::>
page 31 .
Automatic locking
The automat ic loc king featu re locks all t he ve
h icle doors and the rear lid when you drive
faster than 9 mph (15 km/h).
The ca r is un locked aga in, whe n the opening
function in the power loc king system sw itch
or at one of the doo r levers is ac tuated. The
Auto Lock f unction can be turned on and off in
the MMI
r::::> page 31.
Anti-theft alarm warning system
If the an ti- t h eft alarm warning sys tem de
tects a b reak-in into the vehicle, acoustic and
vis ual warn ing s ignals a re triggered .
T he anti-theft w arning sys tem is activated au
tomat ica lly when you lock the vehi cle. It is de
activated when unlocking using the remote
key, w ith the mechanica l key, and when yo u
switch the ignition on.
T he alarm a lso t urns off when the a la rm cy cle
has expired .
Turn signals
When you u nlock the veh icle, the turn s ignals
flash twice. When you lock the vehicle once,
the turn signals flash once. If they do not
flash, one of the doors, the rear lid o r the
hood is not locked .
Unintentionally locking yourself out
In the fo llow ing cases there safeguards to
preve nt yo u lock ing you r remo te master key i n
the ve hicl e:
- The vehicle does not lock w it h the central
lock ing switc h r:::>
page 33 if the driver's
door is open.
- On veh icles with convenience key*, if the
most recently used master key is in the lug
gage compartment, the rear lid is automat i
cally u nlocke d again after it is closed.
Do not lock your veh icle w ith the re mote mas
t e r k ey or con venienc e key * unti l all doors
and t he rear lid a re closed. In this way you
avo id lock ing yo urself out a cciden tally.
Power side door closer *
T he veh icle doo rs a re equipped with a powe r
s ide door closer . When closing a door, you on
ly have to le t it fall light ly into the latc h. The
doo r will the n automatically close by itself

-When you loc k yo ur vehicle from o utside,
nobody - especially children - s hou ld re-
main inside the vehicle . Remember, ..,

when you lock the vehicle from the outside the windows cannot be opened from
the inside .
- When you leave the vehicle, always take
the ignition key with you. This will pre
ven t passengers (children, for example)
from accidentally being locked in the ve
hicle should they accidentally press the
power locking switch in the doors.
- Do not leave children inside the vehicle
unsupervised . In an emergency it would
be impossible to open the doors from
the outside without the key.
- Applies to vehicles with power side door
closer*:
- When closing a door, make sure noth
ing can interfere with the door. This
could cause serious personal injury.
- You can stop the door from closing at
any time by pulling on the inside or
outside door handle .
(D Tips
-In the event of a crash with airbag de
ployment all locked doors will be auto
matically unlocked to give access to the
vehicle occupants from the outside .
- If the power locking system should mal
function, you can lock the driver's door
using the mechanical key
r::;, page 34.
- If the power locking system should fail,
you can still open the fuel tank flap in an
emergency
r::;, page 218 .
-You are well advised not to keep valua
bles inside an unattended vehicle, visible
or not . Even a properly locked vehicle
cannot provide the security of a safe .
- If the LED in the upper edge of the driv
er's door panel comes on for about 30
seconds after the vehicle is locked, there
is a malfunction in the power locking or
the anti-theft warning system. Have the
malfunction corrected by an authorized
Audi dealership or qualified repair facili
ty.

Setting power locking
T he driver can determine the functions for
power locking in the MMI .
.,. Select: !CAR !function button> Car systems
control bu tton > Vehicle settings > Central
locking .
Unlock doors -
You can decide if All doors or
only the
Driver should unlock. The rear lid al
so unlocks when
All is selected. If you select
Driver in a vehicle with a convenience key* ,
only the door whose handle you pull will un
lock.
If you select
Driver , all the doors and rear lid
will unlock if you press the
ffi button on the re
mote control master key twice .
Lock exterior trunk handle -If you select On,
the rear lid handle is locked. In this case the
rear lid can be opened with the button
a on
the master key or with the
a button* in the
driver's door . In vehicles with a convenience
key* , you can still open the rear lid using the
handle if an authorized master key is near the
proximity sensor.
Fold mirrors* -If you select On, the exterior
rearview mirrors fold in automatically when
you press the
(TI button on the remote control
master key or touch the sensor* in the handle.
Lock when driving -If you select On, the vehi
cle locks automatically when driving. All of
the doors and rear lid lock.
Tone when locking -When you select On, a
confirmation tone sounds when you lock the
vehicle.

If t he vehicle is unlocked and no door, the rear
lid or the hood is opened w ith in 60 seconds,
the vehicle locks itself again automatically.
This feature prevents the vehicle from being
accidenta lly left unlocked over a long period
of time .

er the entire veh icle is unlocked o r only cer
tain doors

- In order to make sure the locking func
tion is working, you shou ld always keep
you r eye on the vehicle to make sure it is
properly loc ked. -
Do not use the remote control if you are
inside the car, otherwise you may unin
tentionally lock the vehicle, and then you
would set off the anti-theft alarm when
you try to sta rt the engine o r open a
door. In case this happens anyhow, push
t he unlock button

- The ve hicle can only be locked when the
selector lever is in the P position.
- Use the panic function on ly if you are in
an eme rgency s ituation.

The doors and the rear lid can be unlocked
and locked without operating the master key .

Do not reach inside the door handle.
T he veh icle can be locke d and unlocked at any
doo r. T he mas te r key mus t be wi thin a range
of about 1.5 m from the appropria te door or
the rear lid. It makes no difference whether
the maste r key is in your jacket pocket or in
your brief case.

It is not possible to re-open the door for a
brief period direct ly after closing it. This al
lows you to ensure that the doors are properly
l ocked.

-
If your vehicle has been standing for an ex
tended period, please note the fo llowing:
- The proximity sensors are deactivated af-
ter a few days to save power. You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unlock the veh icle and a second time to
open the veh icle.
- To prevent the battery from being dis charged and to preserve your vehicle's
ability to start for as long as possible,
the energy management system gradu
al ly sw itches off unnecessary conven
ience functions .
It is possible t hat you
will not be able to unlock your vehicle us
ing these convenience functions.

Operating locks with the key
In the event of a failure of the power locking
system, the driver's door can be locked and
unlocked at the lock cylinder.

If you lock the vehicle using the power locking
switch, please note the following:
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the
outside ( increased security, for ex
ample when you are stopped at a red light).
- The d iodes in the power locking switches il-
luminate when all the doors are closed and
locked.
- Front doors: you can unlock and open the
doors from the inside by pulling on the door
handle. .,..

-When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it difficult for the lid to mov e.
If you press one of the buttons
cs now, the
rear lid will either open or close , depending on
its angle.
If you pull lightly on its handle, the rear lid
will close.
Closing will be stopped immediately when:
- You press the
cs button in the rear lid, or
- You push the handle in the rear lid, or
- You release the
cs button on the driver's
door, or
- When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it difficult for the lid to move.
If you press one of the buttons
cs now, the
rear lid will either close or open , depending on
its angle.
If you pull lightly on its handle, the rear lid
will close.
You can manually stop the automatic open ing/closing of the luggage compartment lid .
The automatic closing process begins if you push down on the rear lid.
,&. WARNING
- After closing the rear lid, always pull up
on it to make sure that it is properly
closed. Otherwise it could open suddenly
when the vehicle is moving.
- To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas
from being drawn into the vehicle, al
ways keep the rear lid closed while driv
ing. Never transport objects larger than
those which fit completely into the lug
gage area, because then the rear lid can
not be fully closed .
- Never leave your vehicle unattended es
pecially with the rear lid left open . A
child could crawl into the car through the
luggage compartment and pull the lid
shut, becoming trapped and unable to
get out. To reduce the risk of personal in
jury, never let children play in or around
your vehicle. Always keep the rear lid as well as the vehicle doors closed when not
in use .
- Never close the rear lid inattentively or
without checking first. Although the
closing force of the rear lid is limited,
you can still seriously injure yourself or others .
- Always ensure that no one is within
range of the rear lid when it is moving, in
particular close to the hinges and the up
per and lower edges - fingers or hands
can be pinched.
- Never try to interfere with the rear lid or
help it when it is being opened or closed
automatically.
(D Tips
- If there is a mechanical problem with au
tomatic closing for the rear lid or there is
an obstruction, it opens again immedi
ately. Check to see why the rear lid could
not be closed before attempting to close
it again.
- The following applies to vehicles equip ·
ped with the Convenience key* feature: if
the remote control key is left in the lug
gage compartment, luggage compart
ment will automatically unlock itself af
ter you lock the vehicle . This prevents
you from unintentionally locking your
key in the luggage compartment .
- When the vehicle is locked, the rear lid
can be unlocked separately by pressing
the button
cs on the master key. When
the rear lid is closed again, it locks auto
matically .

Movement-activated rear lid opening
Applies to vehicles: with convenience key and automatic
rear lid

Requirement: You must have the vehicle key
on you and you must be standing behind the rear lid. The ignition must be switched off.
Make sure you have firm footing.
• Move your foot in a sw inging motion back
and forth under the bumper¢

not touch the bumper. Once the system rec
ognizes the movement, the rear lid will
open.
The rear lid will on ly open if you make the
movement as described. This prevents the
rear lid from opening due to similar move
ments such as when you walk between the
rear of the vehicle and your garage door.
General information
If you trigger the function too many times in a
row, the system may switch off tempera rily to
protect the battery. This may happen if:
- yo u park close to a hedge and the branches
move back and forth under the vehicle for a
long period of time.
- you clean your vehicle, for example with a
pressure washer or in a car wash.
- there is heavy rain .
The funct ion will be available again automati
cally fo r a short time.

Rear lid emergency release
If the central locking system fails, the rear lid
can be opened at the lock cylinder .

Child safety lock
Mechanical child safety lock in the rear

The child safety lock prevents the rear doors
from being opened from the inside.

The child safety lock is visible only when the
door is open .
• Remove the mechanical key

• To switch on the child safety lock, turn the
key in the direction of the arrow.
• To switch off the child safety lock, turn the
key in the opposite direction to the arrow.

Tilting the rear segment of the roof
The rear segment of the roof can be operated
both from the cockpit and from the rear seat.
• To tilt the sunroof completely, press the
button[;] in the rear door briefly to the sec
ond level

• To close the sunroof completely, pull the
button[;] up briefly to the second level

• To select a tilted position, press/pull the
button~ to the first level until the desired
position is reached. Or
• To operate the roof from the cockpit, press
the
I REAR MODE ! button¢ fig. 32. You can
now open/close the rear segment of the roof
using the button
l=I in the headliner. The
LED in the front of the headliner turns on
when the rear roof segment is tilted.
After the ignition is switched off, you can still
operate the panoramic sunroof for about
10
minutes. The switch is deactivated once the
driver's or front passenger's door is opened.
WARNING
Be careful when closing the panoramic
sunroof- otherwise serious injury could re
sult! For this reason, always remove the ig
n ition key when leaving the vehicle.
(D Note
A lways close your panoramic sunroof when
l eav ing your vehicle. Sudden rain can cause
damage to the interior equipment of your
vehicle, particularly the electronic equip ment.

This button switches on the ignition and
starts the engine.

By pressing the
I START ENGIN E STOP I button
without depress ing the brake pedal, the igni
tion is on and switched off by pressing it
again.
After a cold engine is started, there may be a
brief period of increased noise because oil
pressure must fi rst bui ld up in the hydraulic
va lve adjusters. This is normal and not a cause
for concern.
If the engine should not start immediately,
the starting process is automatically stopped
after a sho rt time . Repeat sta rting p rocedu re.
Driver message in the instrument cluster
display
Press brake pedal to start engine
This message appears if you press the
I STAR T ENGIN E ST OP ! button to start the en
g ine and do not depress the brake pedal. The
engine can only be started if the brake pedal
is depressed.
I! Convenience key: Is key not in the vehi
cle?
T his message appears along with the I! sym
bol if the master key is removed from the ve
hicle with the eng ine running.
It is intended
to remind you (e.g . when changing drivers)
not to continue the journey without the mas
ter key.
If the maste r key is no longer in the vehicle,
you cannot switch on the ignition after stop
ping the engine and you also cannot start the
engine again . Moreover, you cannot lock the
vehicle from the outside with the key.
Shift to P, otherwise vehicle can roll away.
Doors do not lock if lever is not in P.
T his message app ears for safety reasons
along with an aud ible warning tone if the P
selector lever position is not engaged when
stopp ing the engine wi th the
I S TART ENGIN E STOP I button. Select the P se
lector lever position . Otherwise the vehicle
could roll and it cannot be locked .
Key not recognised. Hold back of key against
marked area. See owner's manual.
If the indicator light turns on and this mes
sage appears, there is a malfunct ion

Steering lock
The steering locks when you turn the engine
off using the
I STAR T ENGINE ST OP I button
and open the driver 's door. The locked steer
ing helps prevent vehicle theft.
A WARNING
-
- Never allow the engine to run in conf ined
spaces -danger of asphyxiat ion .
- Never turn off the engine until the vehi
cle has come to a complete stop .
- The brake booster and power steering
only work when the engine is running.
If
the engine is off, you have to use more
force when steering or brak ing. Because
you cannot steer and brake as you usual
ly would, this could lead to crashes and
serio us injuries.
