automatically after a certain period of time.
.,. To turn an economy message off immedi-
ately after it appears, press any button on
the multifunction steering wheel.
@ Tips
- Once you have turned a fuel economy
message off, it will only appear again af­
ter you turn the ignition on again.
- The fuel economy messages are not dis­
played in every instance, but rather in in­
tervals over a period of time.
Cylinder on demand System
Applies to vehicles: with 4.0 TFSJ engine

To save fuel, the engine automatically turns
four cylinders on or off, depending on the
amount of power needed. This action is not
felt by the passengers.
Displaying cylinder mode
Requirement: the on-board computer is dis­
played

.,. Turn the thumbwheel until the current fuel
consumption display is shown in the instru­
ment cluster.
If the green bar is displayed,
you are driving in 4-cylinder mode.
Basic requirements for 4-cylinder mode
4-cylinder drive mode is used automatically if
certain basic requirements are fulfilled. These
include:
- A low power output requirement.
- Driving in third gear or higher.
- Engine speed between 960 and 3,500 RPM. - A warm engine.
Odometer

The odometer shows you how many miles
(kilometers) you have driven. You can switch
the display from miles to kilometers and vice
versa via the MMI.
Upper odometer
The trip odometer shows the distance driven
since it was last reset. It can be used to meas­
ure short distances. The last digit indicates
1/10 of a mile (100 meters).
You can reset the trip odometer to zero by
pressing the Reset button
Efil.
Lower odometer
The lower odometer shows the total number
of miles (kilometers) driven.
Malfunction message
If there is a malfunction in the instrument
cluster,
DEF will appear in the trip odometer
display area. Contact your authorized Audi
dealer to have the problem corrected .

When you open the drive r's door, the date and
time appear in the instrument cluster display for 30 seconds. When the ign ition is switched
on, the time is always displayed in the status
line © regard less of the current d isp lay.
You can set the time on both clocks and the
date display in the MMI. Refer to the M MI
owner's manual for instructions.
Service interval display
The service interval display reminds you when
your next service is due.

The schedule for the next oil change o r inspec­
tion is calculated a utomatically and displayed
according ly. The display works in two stages:
Service reminder
30 days before the next service is due, a serv­
ice reminder appears in the display when you
switch the ignition o n

After abo ut 5 sec onds the display sw itches
back to n ormal. The d istance and time re­
maining are updated each time the ignition is
switched on until the date due for serv ice is
reac hed.
Service due
W hen the due date for service is reached, the
message
Service due! appea rs in the instru­
ment clus ter immediately after you switch the
i gnit io n on . Additionally, a war ning tone sou
nds. After about 5 seconds the disp lay
switc hes back to normal.
Calling up the service schedules
If or w hen an oi l change or inspection is due,
c a n be shown in the M MI di spl ay by selec ting
t h e service in terval d isplay in the c ar menu .

Resetting the service interval display
Your auth ori zed Audi de aler will reset the cor­
responding service sc hedule a fter pe rforming

also have t he possibility to reset the oil
change schedule after hav ing performed a n
o il change according to Aud i specifications.

With the ignition switched on, the warning il­
luminates when at least
one door or the hood
or the rear lid is not closed . The symbol also
shows you
which door(s) or lid is not closed .

On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL }
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)¢• in
the instrument cluster is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
The warning/indicator light illuminates when
the ignition is switched on and goes out after
the engine starts and the idle has stabilized .
This indicates that the MIL is working proper ­
ly .
If the light does not go out after the engine
is started, or illuminates while you are driv­
ing, a malfunction may exist in the engine sys­
tem .
If the light illuminates, the catalytic con­
verter could be damaged.
Continue driving
with reduced power (avoid­
ing sustained high speeds and/or rapid accel­
erat ions) and have the condition corrected .
Contact your authorized Audi dealer .
If the light illuminates, the electronic speed limiter may also be malfunctioning. For more
information
c:> page 29, Electronic speed
limiter .
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate
c:> page 230.
On-Board Diagnostics

On-Board Diagnostics monitors the compo­
nents of your em iss ion contro l system . Each
monitored component in your engine system
has been assigned a code . In case of a mal­
function, the component will be identified
and the fault stored as a code in the control
module memory.
The MIL light may also illuminate if there is a
leak in the on-board fuel vapor recovery sys­
tem .
If the light illuminates after a refueling,
stop the vehicle and make sure the fuel filler cap is properly closed
c:> page 230.
In order to make an accurate diagnosis, the
stored data can only be displayed using spe­
cial diagnostic equipment (generic scan tool
for OBO) .
In order to connect the specia l diagnostic
equipment, push the plug into the Data Link
Connector (OLC). The DLC is located to the
right of the hood release
c:> fig. 15.
Your authorized Aud i dealer or a qualified
service station can interpret the code and per­
form the necessary repair.
A WARNING ""-=--
Do not use the d iagnost ic connector for
personal use. Incorrect usage can cause
malfunctions, which can increase the risk
of a collision!

mended that each person always uses "their
own" master key . When the ignition is switch­

T he stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open the doors or when you switch the ignition on.
A WARNING
-- Do not leave your vehicle unattended. A l­
ways take your ignit ion key with you and
lock your vehicle. Entry by unauthorized
pe rsons could endanger you or result in
theft or damage the vehicle.
- Do not leave ch ildren unattended in the
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle
keys. Unguarded access to the keys pro­
vides children the opportun ity to s tart
the engine and/or ac tiva te vehicle sys­
tems such as the power windows, etc.
Unsupervised operation of any vehicle
system by children can result in serious
inj ury.
(D Tips
- The ope ration of the remote con trol key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfe r­
ence from transm itters in the vic inity of
the vehicle working in the same frequen­
cy range (e .g. a cell phone, radio equ ip­
ment).
- For security reasons, rep lacement keys
are only avai lable from Audi dealers.

Power locking system
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the luggage compartment lid si­
multaneously.
You can lock and u nlock the vehicle centrally.
You have the following choices:
- Remote master key~
page 34,
-Door handles with convenience key*
¢page 34,
- Lock cylinder at the dr iver 's door
¢ page 35, or
- Power locking switch inside¢
page 35.
Sele ct ive unloc king
When you lock the vehicle, the powe r locking
system wi ll lock t he doors and the l uggage
compartment lid. When unlocking, you can
set in the MMI whether only the driver's door
or the entire vehicle should be unlocked
¢ page 33.
Automatic locking
The automatic locking feat ure locks all the ve­
h icle doors and the luggage compartment lid
when you drive faster than 9 mph (15 km/h).
The ca r is un locked again, when the opening
function in the power locking system switch
or at one of the door levers is actuated. The
Auto Lock function can be turned on and off in
the MMI
¢ page 33.
Anti-theft alarm warning system
If the an ti- t h eft alarm warning sys tem de­
tects a b reak-in into the vehicle, acoustic and
vis ual warn ing s ignals a re triggered .
T he anti-theft w arning sys tem is activated au­
tomat ica lly when you lock the vehi cle. It is de­
activated when unlocking using the remote
key, w ith the mechanica l key, and when yo u
switch the ignition on.
T he alarm a lso t urns off when the a larm cy cle
has expired .
Turn signals
When you unlock the veh icle, the turn s ignals
flash twice. When you lock the vehicle once,
t h e turn signals flash once. If they do not
flash, one of the doors, the luggage compart­
ment lid or the hood is not locked .
Unintentionally locking yourself out
In the fo llow ing cases there safeg uards to
prevent yo u locking you r remo te master key i n
the vehi cle:
- The vehicle does not lock w it h the central
lock ing switch ¢
page 35 if the drive r's
door is open.
- On veh icles with convenience key*, if the
most recently used master key is in the lug­
gage compartment, the luggage compa rt­
ment lid is a utomat ic al ly unlocked again af­
t er i t is closed .

Power side door closer*
T he veh icle doo rs are equipped with a powe r
s ide doo r closer . When clos ing a door, you on­
ly have to le t it fall light ly into the latch. The
doo r will the n automatically close by itself
¢& . ~

A WARNING ,~
- When you lock your vehicle from outside,
nobody - especially children - should re­
main inside the vehicle. Remember,
when you lock the vehicle from the out­
side the windows cannot be opened from
the inside.
- When you leave the vehicle, always take
the ignition key with you. This will pre­
vent passengers (children, for example)
from accidentally being locked in the ve­
hicle should they accidentally press the
power locking switch in the doors.
- Do not leave children inside the vehicle
unsupervised. In an emergency it would
be impossible to open the doors from
the outside without the key.
- Applies to vehicles with power side door
closer*:
- When closing a door, make sure noth­
ing can interfere with the door. This
could cause serious personal injury.
- You can stop the door from closing at
any time by pulling on the inside or
outside door handle.
@ Tips
-In the event of a crash with airbag de­
ployment all locked doors will be auto­
matically unlocked to give access to the
vehicle occupants from the outside.
- If the power locking system should mal­
function, you can lock the driver's door
using the mechanical key¢
page 36.
- If
the power locking system should fail,
you can still open the fuel tank flap in an
emergency¢
page 231.
-You are well advised not to keep valua­
bles inside an unattended vehicle, visible
or not. Even a properly locked vehicle
cannot provide the security of a safe.
- If the LED in the upper edge of the driv­
er's door panel comes on for about 30
seconds after the vehicle is locked, there
is a malfunction in the power locking or
the anti-theft warning system. Have the malfunction corrected by an authorized

Audi dealership or qualified repair facili­
ty.
· Setting power locking
The driver can determine the functions for
power locking in the MMI.

control button > Vehicle settings > (Central
locking).
Lock when driving -
If you select On, the vehi­
cle locks automatically when driving. All of
the doors and luggage compartment lid lock.
Central locking
Unlock doors -
You can decide if All doors or
only the
Driver should unlock. The luggage
compartment lid also unlocks when
All is se­
lected. If you select
Driver in a vehicle with a
convenience key*, only the door whose handle
you pull will unlock.
If you select
Driver, all the doors and luggage
compartment lid will unlock if you press the@
button on the remote control master key
twice.
Lock exterior trunk handle -If you select On,
the luggage compartment lid handle is
locked. In this case the luggage compartment
lid can be opened with the button
c:s on the
master key or with the
c:s button* in the driv­
er's door. In vehicles with a convenience key*,
you can still open the luggage compartment
lid using the handle if an authorized master
key is near the proximity sensor .
Fold mirrors* -If you select On, the exterior
rearview mirrors fold in automatically when
you press the
/fJ button on the remote control
master key or touch the sensor* in the handle.
Tone when locking -When you select On, a
confirmation tone sounds when you lock the
vehicle .

- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat­

A WARNING

ignition off and automatically locks the
entire vehicle whe n it is actuated .
- On a vehicle locked from the outside the
power locking system switch is inopera­
t ive .
- locked doors make it more diffic ult for
emergency workers to get into the vehi­
cle, which puts lives at risk . Do not leave
anyone beh ind in the vehicle, esp ecially
children.

ger be opened from the outside. The door can
be opened from the inside by pulling the door
handle. If the child safety lock in a rear door is

o n the inside . Then you ca n ope n the doo r
from t he outside.

A WARNING
- After closing the luggage compartment
lid, a lways pull up on it to make sure that
it is properly closed. Otherwise it could
open suddenly when the veh icle is mov­
ing.
- To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas
from being drawn into the vehicle, al­
ways keep the luggage compa rtment lid
closed while driving. Never transport ob­
jects larger than those which fit com ­
pletely into the luggage area, because
then the luggage compartment lid can­
not be fully closed.
- Never leave your vehicle unattended es­
pecially with the luggage compartment
lid left open. A child could crawl into the
car through the luggage compartment
and pull the lid shut, becom ing trapped
and unable to get out. To reduce the risk
of personal injury, never let children play
in o r around your vehicle. A lways keep
the luggage compartment lid as we ll as
the vehicle doors closed when not in use.
@ Tips

Requirement: You must have the vehicle key
on you and you must be standing behind the
luggage compartment lid. The ignition must
be sw itched off . Make sure you have firm foot­
ing.

ognizes the movement, the luggage com­
partment lid will open.
The luggage compartment lid will only open if
you make the movement as described. This p reven ts the luggage compartment lid from
open ing due to s imilar movements s uch as
when yo u walk between the rear of the vehicle
and your garage door.
General information
I n some s ituations, the functionality of the
system is limited o r temporar ily unava ilable.
This is the case, for examp le, if:

-you park close to a hedge and the branches
move back and forth under the vehicle for a
long per iod of t ime.
- you clean your vehicle, for examp le with a
pressure washer or in a car wash.
- there is heavy rain.
- the bumper is ve ry dirty (for example, after
driving on sa lted roads) .
The function will be ava ilable aga in automat i­
ca lly for a sho rt time .

Child safety lock
When the safety button®¢ fig. 32 is press­
ed, the LED in the button lights up. The fol­
lowing features are switched off:
- The power windows in the rear doors,
- The buttons for the power sun shades* in
the side windows,
- The buttons for the power sun shade * in the
rear window,
- Front passenger power seat adj ustment*
button.
_& WARNING
- When you leave your vehicle - even if on­
ly briefly- always take the ignition key
with you. This applies particularly when
children remain in the veh icle. Otherw ise
the ch ildren could start the engine or op­
erate electrical equ ipment (e.g. power
w indows). The powe r windows are func­
tional until the driver's door or passeng­
er's door has been opened.
- Be careful when closing the windows.
Check to see that no one is in the way, or
serious injury could result!
- When locking the vehicle from outside,
the vehicle must be unoccupied sinc e the
windows can no Longer be opened in an
emergency.

-The driver can Lower or raise the power
sun shades* in the side windows by using
switches © and @.
- After the ignition has been switched off,
the windows can still be opened or
closed for about 10 min utes. The power
windows are not switched off until the dr iver's door or passenger's door has
been ope ned.
What to do after a malfunct ion
The one-touch open and close function must
be reactivated if the battery hos been discon­
nected .
• Pull and hold the power window switch un­
til the w indow is fully closed.
• Release the sw itch and then pull it again for
at least one second.
Valet parking
The valet parking feature protects the lug­
gage comportment from unauthorized
ac ­
cess .
