Instruments and indicator lights
If the indicator light t urns on and the message
app ears, th ere is a malfunction in the gene rator
or veh icle electrical system .
Drive to yo ur autho rized Aud i dea le r o r q ual ified
workshop immediately . Because the vehicle bat ­
tery is discharging, turn off a ll unnecessary e lec­
tr ica l equipment s uch as the radio. Seek profes ­
sional ass istance if the battery charge level is too
low.
(•) Low b attery charge: b attery w ill be charged
while dri ving
If th e ind icator lig ht tu rns on and the message
appears, there may be lim ited starting ab ility .
I f th is message turns off afte r a litt le while, the
b a ttery charged enough wh ile d riving.
If the message does not turn off, have your a u­
thor ized Audi dealer or qualified wo rkshop cor­
re ct the malfunction .
~ Engine
• Engin e stopp ed: No power steering and
brake support .
There is a malfunction in the eng ine or in the fue l
supp ly system .
A large amount of steering and braking force is required when driving a rolling vehicle with the
e ng ine stopped . Try to stop a rolling vehicle ca re­
fu lly on the side of the road. See your autho riz ed
Aud i deale r or qualified repair facility.
A WARNING
-
If the eng ine stops while dr iving, a la rge
amount of braking force is req uired . This in­
creases the risk of an accident. As long as the
vehicle rolls with the ignition switched on and there is enough battery charge, the powe r
steering will still work . If not, a la rge amount
o f stee ring force is requ ired .

~ Safety belts
This warning/indicator light reminds you to put
on your safety belt.
The . warn ing/ indicator light illumin ates when
the igni tion is swi tched on to remind th e driver
and any front passenger to put on the safety belt .
Additionally, a n acoust ic wa rning (go ng) w ill also
sou nd.

"1::::1': Engine oil pressure malfunction
The red engine oil pressure warning symbol re­
quires immediate service or repair . Driving with a
low-oil-pressure indication is likely to inflict se­
vere damage to the engine.
• Switch o ff engine and check oil le vel
If the indicator light turns on and the message
appears, the oil pressure is too low .
.. Pull off the road .
.. Stop the vehicle.
.. Turn off the engine .

- The engine oil pres sure symbol. is not
an indicator for a low engine oil level. Do
not rel y on it . In stead , check the oil level in
your engine at regular inte rvals , preferably
each time you refuel , and always before
go ing on a long trip .
- The yellow oil level warning indication

out delay. Do not wait until the red o il
pre ssure wa rning. starts to flash before
you respond to the low oil le vel warning .,.

Unlike the short-term memory, the long-term
memory is not erased automatically. You can se­
lect the time period for evaluat ing trip informa­
tion yourself.
F or some vehicle functions, you can access driv­
ing information from the short-term memory
consecutively in the line ©~
page 23, fig. 5 by
turning the thumbwheel @.
Fuel consumption
The cu rrent fue l consumption can be shown us­
ing a bar graph¢
fig. 8. The average consump­
tion stored in the short-term memory is also dis­
p layed. If the bar is green, your vehicle is saving
fuel through one of the following functions:
- Recuperation : electrical energy can be stored in
the battery when the vehicle is coasting or driv­
ing downh ill. The bar will move toward 0.
-Cylinder on demand system*: the engine auto­
matically switches four cylinders
(4.0L TFS!) or
six cylinders (6.3L FSI) off when lower power
output is required and other conditions are met . This change is not noticeable to the pas­
sengers. The cylinders will switch on again
when higher power output is needed.

The efficiency program can help you to use less
fuel.
It shows other equipment influenci ng con­
sumption and fuel economy messages provide
tips for efficient driving. The efficiency program
uses distance and consumption data from trip
computer
1.
To display the efficiency program, call up Vehicle
functions
and select the menu option Efficiency
program.
Other equipment
Other equipment that is current ly affecting fuel
consumption is listed in the view
Consumer. The
display shows up to three other items of equ ip­
ment @¢
fig. 9. The equipment using the most
fuel is listed first. If more than three items using
fuel are switched on, the equipment t hat is cur­
rently using the most fuel is displayed.
A scale @also shows the current total consump­
tion of all other equipment .
Fuel economy messages
Fuel economy messages a re displayed when fuel
consumption is increased by certain conditions
~ fig. 10. If yo u follow these fuel economy mes­
sages, you can reduce your vehicle's consumption
of fuel. The messages appear automatically and are only displayed in the effic iency program. The
fuel economy messages turn off automatically
after a certain period of time.
To turn an economy message off immediately af­
ter it appears, press any button on the multifunc -
tion steering wheel. ..,_

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine w ith the master key with re­
mote control. A mechanical key is integrated in
the remote control key¢

@ Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for constant
use. It shou ld only be used in an emergency.
Keep it in a safe place and do not carry it on your
key ring.
Key replacement
If you lose a key , contact your authorized Audi
dealer immediately to have the
lost key disab led .
Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Personal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own" master
key. When the ignition is switched off or when
the vehicle is locked , personal convenience set­
tings for the following systems are stored and as­
signed to the remote master key .
- Automatic climate contro l
- Central locking system
- Rear w indow sun blind
- Amb ient lighting
- Seat memory
- Parking system*
-Adaptive cruise contro l*

The stored settings are automatica lly recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open the
doors or when you switch the ignition on.
A WARNING
-
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended . Al­
ways take your ignition key with you and
lock your vehicle. Entry by unauthorized per­
sons could endanger you or result in theft or
damage the vehicle.
- Do not leave children unattended in the ve­
hicle, especially with access to vehicle keys.
Ungua rded access to the keys provides chil ­
dren the opportunity to start the engine
and/or activate vehicle systems s uch as the
power windows, etc . Unsupervised opera­
tion of any veh icle system by ch ildren can
result in serious injury.
(D Tips
- The operation of the remote control key can
be temporarily disrupted by interference
from transmitters in the v icinity of the vehi­
cle working in the same frequency range
(e.g . a cell phone, radio equipment).
- For security reasons, replacement keys are
only available from Audi dealers.
- For Declaration of Compliance to United
States FCC and Industry Canada regulat ions
C?page 284.

To avoid damage to the heating elements in
the seats, do not kneel on the seats or place
heavy loads on a small area of the seat.
Setup
The climate control system setup is accessed
through the MMI.

control button > A/C .
Rear cabin settings*
When this function is selec ted, a ll sett ings for
t he rear can be adjusted through the climate con ­
trol system in the cockpit . T he climate control
system settings cannot be adjusted in the rear
seat at the same time. This function switches off
after a certain period of time or when one of the
dials in the cockpit is pressed.
Auto recirculation*
The sensit ivity level of the automatic recircula­
tion mode can be set at various leve ls from
off to
sensitive . The recirculation mode l""' I is controlled
on automatically. You must press the
I~ FRONT I
button if fog forms on the w indows .
Footwell temperature
You can adjust the footwell temperature so that
it is cooler or warmer.
Windshield heat*
When the defroster I@ FRONT I is switched on and
the
Auto setting is selected, the windshield de­
froster is con trolled automatically .
Supplementary heater*
The supplementary heater warms the interior of
veh icles with diese l engines* more quickly . The
supp lementary heate r is controlled automat ically
in the
Auto setting.
Solar roof*
Parking ventilation is controlled automatically in
the
auto setting .
Warm and cold
When the ignition is off, so lar-powered parking
ventilation may switch on, as long as
- t here is sufficient sunlight ,
- the outside temperature is not too low,
- the sunroof is closed or tilted and
-auto (MMI) is selected.
~ Steer ing wheel heating
Applies to: vehicles with heated steering wheel
T he steering wheel rim can be heated .

starting process is automatica lly stopped after a
short time. Repeat the start ing process .
Start/Stop system*

- Never allow the engine to run in confine d
spaces - danger of asphyxiation.
- Never t urn off the engine before the ve hicle
has come to a comp lete stop .
Drivi ng
-The brake booster and power steer ing only
work when the engine is runn ing . If the en­
g ine is off, yo u have to use more force when
steer ing o r braking . Because you cannot
steer a nd b rake as you usu ally would, this
could lead to crashes and serious injuries .
(D Note
Avoid h igh engine speed, full th rottle, and
heavy engine load as long as the eng ine has
not reached ope rating temperature yet . You
could damage the e ng ine .
© Tips
-Some noise after start ing the engine is nor­
ma l and is no cause for co nce rn .
- If you leave the ve hicle w ith the ignition
switched on, the ig nit ion w ill switch off af ­
t er a ce rtain amount of time. Ma ke sure that
el ec trical equipment such as the exte rior
ligh ts a re swi tched off .
Stopping the engine

Steering lock
The steer ing locks when yo u tur n the eng ine off

Emergency off
If necessary , the eng ine ca n be switched off w ith
t h e selec tor lever in the R, Do r S posit io ns. Th e
engine s tops if you press and hold the
!S TAR T EN GINE ST OP ! button a t speed s below 6
mph ( 10 km/h) and press the bra ke peda l.

-Never turn off the engine be fore the vehicle
has come to a complete stop . The full func­
tion of the brake booster and the power
steer ing is not guara nteed. You must use ..,.

be slowed down even if the
normal brakes fai l

-
Do not press the accelerator pedal inadver­
tently if the vehicle is stationary but the en­
gine is runn ing and a gear is selected. Other­
w ise the vehicle will start to move immediate­
ly and could result in a crash.
(D Tips
- If the parking brake is app lied with the igni­
tion switched off, the indicator lights in the
switch and -(USA models)/ . (Cana-
da models) in the instrument cluster will go
out after a ce rtain per iod of t ime.
- Occasional noises when the parking brake is applied and released are normal and are not
a cause for conce rn.
- When the vehicle is parked, the park ing
brake goes thro ugh a self-test cycle at regu­
l a r i ntervals. Any associa ted noises a re nor­
mal.

"When on incl ines or declines, turn the steering
wheel so that your vehicle will roll into the c urb

-When you leave your vehi cle -even if on ly
br iefly -always ta ke the ignition key with
yo u. This applies par ticularly when children
remain in the vehicle . Otherwise the chil ­
dren could start the engine, release the
parking b rake o r operate elect rical eq uip­
ment (e.g . power windows). There is the r isk
of an accident.

- When the veh icle is locked, no one -pa rtic u­
larly not chi ldren should rema in in the vehi­
cle. Locked doors make it more d ifficult for
emergency workers to get into the vehicle -
putting lives at risk .
Starting from rest
The starting assist function ensures that the
parking broke is released automatically upon starting.
Stopping and applying park ing brake
" Pull the switch
C®l to apply the parking brake .
Starting and automatically releasing the
park ing bra ke
" When you sta rt to drive as usua l, the par king
brake is automatically released and your vehicle
beg ins to move.
When stopping at a traffic signa l or stopping in
city traffic, the parking brake can be applied. The
vehicle does not have to be held with the foot­
brake . The parking brake eliminates the tendency
to creep w ith a dr ive range engaged. As soon as
you drive off as usual, the parking brake is re ­
leased a utomat ically and the vehicle starts to
move .
Starting on slopes
When starting on incl ines, the sta rting assist pre­
vents the vehicle from un intent iona lly rolling
back. The braking force of t he parking brake is
not released u nti l sufficient dr iv ing force has
been built up at t he wheels .
(D Tips
Fo r safety reasons, the park ing brake is re­
l eased automatically only when the driver's
safety be lt is e ngaged in the b uck le.

Description

The follow ing systems are affected by drive se­
lect:
Engine and t ransm is sion
Depending on the mode, the engine and the
transmission respond quicker or in a more ba l­
anced manner to accelerator pedal movements.
In the sporty dynamic mode, the transmission
shifts at h igher RPMs.
Air suspe nsion
The adaptive air suspension/adaptive air suspen­
sion sport*
(Air suspension in the MMI) is an
electronically controlled air suspens ion and
damping system . They are adjusted depending
on the se lected dr iving mode, the driver's steer­
ing, b raking and acceleration input and the road
surface, vehicle speed and load. A spo rty setting
is gene rally used in veh icles with adaptive air sus­
pens ion sport*.
The vehicle clearance va ries depending on these­
lected mode and the speed .
The highway setting is activated automatically
when yo u drive above 75 mph (120 km/h) for
mo re than 30 seconds in the
au to or dynamic

mode. The ground clea rance is increased auto ­
matically if the speed drops below 44 mph (70
km/h) for more than 120 seconds.
Steering
The steering adapts in terms of steering effort
and steering rat ios. Indirect stee ring that moves
easily, like the steering in com fort mode, is best
suited to long drives on a highway. In contrast,
dynamic mode provides sporty, direct steering .
The following app lies to veh icles with dynamic
steering*: the steering ratio changes based on
vehicle speed in order to maintain optimum
steering effort for the dr iver at a ll times . This
sets the steering to be less sensitive at higher
speeds in order to provide improved vehicle con­
trol. At reduced speeds, however, steering is more d irect in order to keep t he steering effort as
min imal as possible whe n the dr iver is maneuve r­
i ng the vehicle. A t low and ave rage speeds, dy­
namic steeri ng addit ionally prov ides more re ­
spons ive steering performance.
Sport differential*
As a component of the all whee l dr ive sys tem
(quattro)

dist ributes t he d riving powe r to the rear axle de ­
pend ing on the s ituation. The distr ib ution of
power va ries depending on the selected mode,
from ba lanced (comfort) to agile (dynamic). The
goal is a high level of agility and ability to accel­
erate on curves. The vehicle is very responsive to
steering.
Cur ve light *
The curve light adapts to driving on curves . The
pivoting action and the lighting are also adapted
to the mode.
Adapt ive cruise control*
The behavio r whe n accelerating ca n be adjusted
from comfortable to sporty, depending on the
drive select mode. Adaptive cruise contro l also
responds to the driving behavior of the vehicle
ahead in a more conservative or sporty manner . ..,_
