In the Infotainmen t system, yo u can specify
which informa tion should be displayed: This
could be Navigation information* or Night vision
assist *, for example.
The display of certa in information and some of
the red indicator lights cannot be hidden in the
I nfotainment system .
Display brightness
You can adjust the display brightness in the Info­
tainment system. The display b rightness decreas­
es automati cally as the amoun t of light decreas­
es. The backg ro und brightness is adjusted with
the instrument illumination ¢
page 47.

To preven t scratches on the g lass cove ring the
head -up d isplay, do not place any objects in
the projection opening .
(D Tips
-Sunglasses w ith polar izat ion fi lte rs and u n­
favorab le lighting conditions can have a
negative effect on the display.
- An optim um display depends on the seat
position and the height adjustment of the
head -up display.
- A specia l windshield is needed for the head ­
up disp lay function.

Indicator lights
Description
The indicator lights in the inst rument cluster
b lin k or t urn on. They indicate functions or mal­
f u nctions.
W it h some ind icator lights, messages may ap­
pear and wa rning signals may sound . The indica­
tor lights and messages in the center of the dis­ p lays may be replaced by other d isp lays. To show
them again, se lect t he tab for ind icator lights
and messages using the m ultif unction steering
wheel ¢

' Overview
Some indicator lights t urn on briefly as a f unction
c h eck when you switch the ignition on . These sys­
tems are marked with a./ in the fo llow ing tab les.
If one of these ind icator lights does not turn on,
there is a malfunct io n in that system.

ing function may be malfunctioning. It may not
be possible to set the parking brake or release

- If the brake system indicator light does not
turn off or it t urns on while driv ing, the
brake fluid level in the reservoir is too low,
and this increases the risk of an acc ident .
Stop the vehicle a nd do not continue dr iv­
ing . See an author ized Audi dealer or au­
t h o rized Aud i Serv ice Facility fo r ass istance.
- If the brake system indicator light turns on
togethe r with the ABS and ESC ind icator
l igh ts, the ABS/ ESC regula ting func tion may
be malfunctioning. Fu nctions that stabilize
the vehicle are no longer ava ilable . This
could cause the vehicle to swerve, whic h in­
creases the risk that the ve hicle wi ll slide.

Audi dealer or author ized Audi Service Facili­
ty for assistance.
PARK/( ®) Electromechanical parking brake

• Swit ch off engine and check coolant level!
T he coolant level is too low .
Do not continue dr iv ing and switch the eng ine
off. Check the coolant level

- If the coo lant level is too low , add coolant
c::> page 2 78 . Only continue driving once the in­
dicator light turns off.
• Coolant temperature too high! Please let en­
gine run with vehicle stationary
Let the engine ru n at idle fo r a few min utes to
cool off, until t he ind icator lig ht t urns off .
- If the ind icator light does not turn off , do not
cont inue driving the veh icle. See an authorized
Aud i dea le r or aut horized Audi Serv ice Facility
for assistance.
.&_ WARNING
- Never ope n the hood if you can see or hear
steam or coo lant escaping from the engine
compa rtment. This increases the risk of
burns. Wait until you no longer see o r hear
steam or coolant escaping.
- The engine compartment in any vehicle can
be a dange rous a rea. Stop the engine and
allow it to cool before working in the engine
compa rtment . Always follow the informa­
tion fo und in
c::> page 2 71.

• Electrical system: malfunction! Battery i s
not being charged
There is a malfunction in the alternator or the ve­
hicle electrical system .
Drive to an authori zed Aud i dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility immediately. Because the ve ­
hicle battery is discharg ing , turn off all unneces­
sary e lectr ica l equipment such as the radio. See
your author ized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility if the battery charge level is too
l ow .
(•) Low battery charge: Battery will be charged
while driving
T he start ing ability may be impaired .
If th is message turns off after a litt le while, the
vehicle battery charged enough wh ile driving.
If the message does not turn off, have an author ­
ized Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facili­
ty repair the malfunction.
~ Engine
• Engine stopped: No power steering and
brake support.
There is a malfunction in the engine or in the fuel
supp ly system .
More force is needed to steer and brake the mov ­
ing vehicle when the engine is stopped . If the ve­
hicle is rolling, try to bring it to a stop off to the
side from moving traffic. See an authorized Audi
dealer or authorized Aud i Serv ice Facility for as­
sistance .
_& WARNING
-
If the eng ine stops while dr iving, you will
need to use more force to brake the vehicle.
Thi s increases the risk of an accident. There
will still be power steering if the ignition is
switched on while th e vehicle is rolling and
there is sufficient battery charge. Otherwise,
you must use greater force when steering .

The oil pressure warning is not an oil leve l in­
dicator. Always check the oil level regularly .

have the serv ice mode deactivated.

There is a system malfunct ion that can result in
restricted d riving stability or reduced gro und
clearance.

rl Air suspension : Vehicle i s too low. Ground
clearance limited
The gro und clea rance is very low due to a system
malfunction . Wai t unti l th e air su sp ension sys ­
tem has restored normal g ro und clear ance. Oth­
erwise, conditions s uch as an uneven road surface
can lead to ve hicle damage.
. ;;.l u Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC)
If the G) ind icator light blinks while driving, the
ESC or ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation) is act ively regu­
l ating.
If the
G) indicator light turns on, the system has
switched the ESC off. In th is case, you can switch
the ignit ion off and then on to switch the ESC on
again. The i ndicator light tu rns off when the sys­
tem is functioning fully .
If the
II ind icator light turns on, the ESC was
switched off using the

functio n in the ABS system or electro nic differen­
tia l lock. This also causes the ESC to malfunction.
The brakes still function with their normal power, but ABS is not active .
Drive to an authorized A udi dealer or authorized
Audi Se rvice Fac ility immediate ly to have the
malfunction corrected .
& WARNING
If the ... (USA models) • (Canada mod ­
e ls) bra ke system indicator light turns on to­
ge the r with the ABS and ESC in dicator ligh ts,
the ABS a nd ESC r egulating fu nction may
ha ve malfunc tioned. Fu n ct io ns t hat stab ilize

The II (USA models)/ m (Canada mode ls) indi­
cator light monitors the safety systems.
If the
II (USA mode ls)/ m (Canada models) in­
d ic ator light turns on or blinks, there is a mal­
function in a safety system such as the airbag or belt tensioner system .
Drive to an authorized Aud i dea ler or a uthori zed
Aud i Service Facility immedia tely to have the
malfunct ion corrected.
A WARNING
Have the malf unct ion in the safety systems
inspected immediately. Otherwise, the re is a
r is k th at the systems may not activate du ring
a co llision, which increases the risk of serio us
injury or death.

a Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
The ma lf u nction indicator lamp ( MIL) is part of
the On Board Diagnostic system (OBD II). The
¢4 c;ymbol turns on when the ignition is sw itched
on and turns off aga in once the engine is started
and ru nning at a steady idle speed . This indicates
t h at the MIL is f unct ion ing cor rectly .
The ind icator light turns on if there is a malfunc­
t ion in the engine electronics . See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized A udi Service Fac ility to
have t he mal funct ion cor rected . Fo r additional

The eng ine speed is automatically limited to the
RPM shown in the instrument cluster d isplay.
This protects the engi ne from overheat ing .
The eng ine speed limitation deactivates once the
engine is no longe r in the critical temperatu re
range and you have re leased the accelerator ped­
al once .

General information
Breaking in
A new vehicle must be broken in, and the break­
in distance should be 1,000 mi les ( 1,500 km). Do
not drive at speeds that w ill exceed
2/3 of the
maximum permitted engine speed
(RPM) for the
first 600 miles (1,000 km) , and avoid full accel­
eration during this period . You may gradually
start increasing the
RPM and the speed between
600 miles (1,000 km) and 1,000 miles (1,500
km).
During the first hours of use, the engine has a
higher internal friction than later on when all
moving parts have settled into place with each
other.
How the vehicle is driven during the first 1,000
miles (1,500 km) also affects the engine quality.
Drive at moderate engine speeds after the initial
break-in per iod, part icularly when running a cold
engine . This will reduce engine wear and improve
the mileage .
Do not drive at too low of an engine speed (rpm).
Shift down if the engine stops running "smooth­
ly" . Extremely high eng ine speeds are automati ­
cally reduced .
New tires
If your vehicle is running on new tires, drive pa r­
ticularly careful for the first 350 miles (500 kilo­
meters) after fitting .

New tires tend to be slippery and must also
be "broken-in". Be sure to remember this dur­
ing the first 350 miles (500 kilometers).
Brake gently . Avo id following closely behind
other vehicles or other situations that might
require sudden, hard brak ing.
Avoid damaging the vehicle
When you are driving on poor roads, or over
curbs, steep ramps, etc., make certain that low-

lying parts such as spoilers and exhaust system
parts do not bottom out and get damaged .
T h is is espec ially true for veh icles with low-s lung
chass is (sports chassis)* and fully loaded
vehicles .
Driving through water on roads
Note the following to reduce the risk of vehicle
damage when driving through water, for example
on flooded roads:
- The water must not be any higher than the bot­
tom of the vehicle body.
- Do not drive faste r than walk ing speed.

After driving through water or m ud, the effec-
tiveness of the brakes may be reduced due to moisture on the brake rotors and brake pads.
A few careful brake applications should dry
off the brakes .

- Determine the depth before driving through
water.
- Do not stop the vehicle, drive in reverse or
switch the engine off when driving through
water.
- Keep in mind that oncom ing vehicles may
create waves that raise the water level and
make it too deep for your vehicle to drive
through safely.
- Avoid dr iving through salt water, because
this can cause corrosion .
