ignition on,
check if you can release the
park ing brake . After releasing the parking
brake, carefully drive to your author ized

function corrected. If you can not release the
park ing brake , seek professional assistance.
- If the ind icator light and the message ap­
pea r
while driving , the emergency brak ing
function may not be available. It may not be
possible to set the parking brake or release
it once it has been set. Seek pro fessiona l as-
sistance. .,.

tion in the headlights or lig ht switch.
Drive to your authorized Audi dealer immedi­
ately to have the malfunction corrected .
&, WARNING
-Light bulbs are pressurized and could ex­
p lode whi le they are being changed caus­
ing serio us personal injury.
- Work with due care when handling the
high-vo ltage section of gas discharge
(xenon) lights*. Failure to do so could re­
sult in death or serious injury.

If the symbol II illuminates , the dynamic
headlight range control is no longer working
proper ly . Have the system checked and re­

If the indicator light turns on and this mes­
sage appears, there is a malfunction in the
adaptive light system. The headlights still
funct ion.

headlights or the contro l unit for the adaptive
light repa ired.

If the indicator light turns on and this mes­
sage appears, the light/rain sensor is not
functioning correctly.
For safety reasons the low beams are turned
on permanent ly with the switch in
AUTO .
However, you can continue to turn the lights
on and
off using the light switc h. You can still
control all funct ions that are independent of
the rai n sensor through the windsh ield wiper
lever.
Contact your authorized Audi dealer as soon
as possible to have the prob lem corrected.
¢¢ Turn signals
Whenever you use the left R or the right II
turn signal, the indicator light blinks. When
you use the emergency flashers, both indica­ tor lights flash.
If one of the turn signal light bulbs burn out,
the turn signa l will blink tw ice as fast as nor­
mal. Carefully drive to your author ized A udi
dealer immediately to have the malfunct io n
corrected .

¢1<~ Trailer turn signal assembly
The indicator light also blinks if the turn sig­
nal is operated when towing a trailer.
The indicator light. blinks when the turn
signal is used, if a trailer has been properly
connected to the vehicle. If one of the turn signa
l bulbs on the trailer is
burned out or defective, the indicator light
will not blink when you use the turn s ignals.
(D Tips
For vehicles with a trailer hitch that was
insta lled later according to factory specifi­
cations, the trailer turn signa l assembly is
actuated.

A WARNING
Whenever working on the battery or on
the electrical system, there is the r isk of
injury, acc ident and even fire. Read and
heed the following WARNINGS :
- Always wear eye protection. Do not let
battery acid or any lead particles get on
your sk in or cloth ing. Sh ield your eyes .
Explosive gases can cause blindness o r
other injury.
- Battery acid contains sulfuric acid . Sulfu­
ric acid can cause blind ness and severe
burns.
- Always wear gloves and eye p rotection.
Do not tilt the battery because ac id
could leak out of the vent ilation open ­
ings.
- If you get battery acid in yo ur eyes or
on your sk in, immed iately r inse with
cold water for severa l m inutes and get
medical attention.
- If you should ingest any battery acid,
seek med ica l attention immediately.
- Do not expose the battery to an open
flame, electric sparks or an open light.
- Do not smoke.
- Do not interchange the positive and neg-
ative cab les .
- When working on the battery, be sure
not to short-circuit the terminals with
tools or other metal objects. This would cause the battery to heat up very quickly,
wh ich could lead to damage or explosion
and personal injury.
-
Checkin g and fillin g
-When a battery is charged, it produces
hyd rogen gas which is explos ive and
could cause personal injury.
- Always keep the battery well out of the
reach of children.
- Before work is done on the elect rical sys ­
tem, disconnect the negative ground ca­ ble.
- Before performing any work on the e lec­
trical system, switch
off the eng ine and
ignit ion as well as any electrical equip­
ment. The negative cable on the battery
must be disconnected. If yo u are just go­
ing to replace a light bulb, then it is
enough to switc h
off the lights.
- Before disconnecting the battery, switch
off the anti-theft alarm system! Other­
wise you wi ll set
off the al arm.
- When disconnecting the battery, first
discon nect the negat ive cab le and then
the posit ive cab le.
- Before reconnecting the batte ry, ma ke
sure all e lectr ica l consumers are sw itch ­
ed off . Re connect the pos it ive cable first
and then the negative cable. Neve r in ter ­
change the cables -this could start a fire!
- Never cha rge a frozen or a thawed-out
battery.
It could exp lode! If a battery has
frozen, then it must be replaced . A dis­
charged battery can freeze over at 32°F
(QOC).
- Make s ure the vent hose is always attach­
ed to the opening on the side of the bat­
tery.
- Never use batteries which are damaged.
There is the danger of an explosion! A l­
ways rep lace a damaged batte ry.
A WARNING
Ca lifornia Proposition 65 Warning:
- Battery posts, terminals and related ac­
cessories conta in lead and lead com­
pounds, chemicals known to the State of
Ca lifornia to cause cance r and reproduc­
tive problems. Wash hands after han- dling.

What do I do now?
General information
.. Park the vehicle as far as possible from mov­
ing traffic in the event of a flat tire. In the
event of a flat tire, park the vehicle on a lev­
el surface . It you are on a steep incline, be
especially careful.
.. Set the parking brake .
.. Switch the emergency flashers on .
.. Put on a reflective vest, if ava ilable .
.. Set up the warning triang le, if available .
.. Have the passengers exit the vehicle. They
should move to a safe place, for example
behind a guard rai l.
A WARNING
Pay attention to the steps above. They are
for your protection and the for the safety
of other drivers.
A WARNING
Improper use of the vehicle jack can cause
serious personal injuries.
- Never use the screw driver hex head to
tighten wheel bolts, since the bolts can­
not attain the necessary tightening tor­
que if you use the hex head, potentially
causing an accident.
- The factory-suppl ied jack is intended on­
ly for your vehicle model. Under no cir­
cumstances should it be used to lift
heavy vehicles or other loads; you risk in­
jur ing yourself.
- Never start the engine when the vehicle
is raised, which could cause an accident.
- Support the vehicle securely with appro­
priate stands if work is to be performed
underneath the vehicle; otherwise, there
is a potential risk for injury.
- Never use the jack supplied with your
Audi on another vehicle, particularly on a
heavier one . The jack is only suitable for
use on the vehicle it came with .

- Hook for removing wheel covers
- Alig nment pin for changing the wheel
- Screwdriver with reversible blade
- Reversible bit (reversible Torx bit for chang-
ing light bulbs)
- Jack
- Auxil iary tool for selector lever emergency

- Lug wrench

Some of the vehicle items listed above are
provided on certain models only or are option­
al extras.
Before returning the jack to its place , retract
the jack arm fully .
A WARNING

The fuses a re located behind the cover in the
driver's footwell and in the engine compart­ ment.
Preparations
• Switch off t he ignition and the fai le d elec tri­
ca l equ ipme nt.
• Refer to the fo llowing tab les to ident ify the
fuse for t he failed component.
Fuses in the interior
• Open the storage compartmen t.
• Press the retainers on both s ides inwar ds
and fold the sto rage compartment a ll the
way down

• Re lease the fuse cove r by sliding the two
tabs (left and right) fo rwards

Replacing a fuse
There is a clip underneath th e fuses behind
the sto rage compa rtme nt on the driver's side.
• Fold the storage compartment all the way
down and take the clip o ut of its mounting .
• Use the clip to pull out the fuse and rep lace
t he blown fu se wi th a f use of the same ra t­
ing .

Do not repair fuses and never re place a
b lown f use with one that has a hig her am p
rat ing . This can ca use damage to the elec­
tr ica l system and a fire .

Bulbs
Replacing bulbs
For your safety, we recommend that you have
your authorized Audi dealer replace any bulbs for you.
It is becoming increas ingly more and more
difficult to replace vehicle lig ht bulbs s ince in
many cases, other parts of the car must first
be removed before you are able to get to the bulb.
This applies especially to the light bulbs
in the front of your car which you can only
reach through the engine compartment.
Sheet meta l and bulb holders can have sharp
edges that can cause serious cuts, parts must
be correct ly taken apart and then properly put
back together to he lp prevent breakage of
parts and long term damage from water that
can enter housings that have not been proper­
ly resealed.
For your safety, we recommend that you have
your authori zed Audi dea ler replace any bulbs
for you, since your dealer has the proper tools,
the correct bulbs and the expertise.
Gas discharge lamps (Xenon lights ):
Due to the high e lectr ica l voltage, have the
bulbs replaced by a qualified technician.
Headlights with Xenon light are identified by
the high voltage st icker.
A WARNING "--
Changing Xenon lamps without the neces-
sary equipment can cause serious persona l
injury.
- Bulbs are pressurized and can explode
when being changed. Potential risk of in­
jury!
- On veh icles equipped with gas discharge
bulbs (Xenon light) life-threatening inju­
ries can result from improper handling of
the high-voltage portions of such lamps!
- Only your authorized Audi dealer or qualified workshop should change the
bu lbs in gas discharge lamps. There are
pa rts with sharp edges on the openings
and on the bulb holders that can cause
serious cuts. If you are uncertain about
what to do, have the work performed by
an authorized Audi dealer or qualified
workshop. Serious personal injury may
result from improperly performed work.

-If you still prefer to replace the light
bulbs yourself, be aware that the engine ..,.
