Removing the head restraints
• Fold the backrest forward

• Move the head restraint upward as far as it
can go.
• Press the release@¢

ary tool and the button @. Pull the head re ­
straint out of the backrest at the same time

Install ing the head restraints
• Slide the posts on the head restraint down
into the guides until you feel the posts click
into place .
• Press the button @ and slide the head re­
stra int all the way down. You should not be
able to pull the head restraint out of the
back rest.
So that the driver can have a better view to
the rear, the head restraints should be pushed
down completely when the rear seats are not
occupied.
_& WARNING
- Only remove the rear seat head restraints
when necessary in order to install a chi ld
seat . Install the head restraint again im ­
mediately once the child seat is removed.
Driving without head restraints or with
head restraints that are not properly ad­
justed increases the risk of serious or fa­
tal neck injury dramatically .
- Read and heed all WARNINGS

restraints .

The ashtray can be inserted in one of the two
front cup holders .
• To open the ashtray, lift the lid.
.,. To empty the ashtray, lift it out of the cup
holder . After emptying the ashtray , make
sure that you insert it again so it is seated
securely .
_& WARNING
Never put waste paper in the ashtray. Hot
ashes or other hot objects in the ashtray
could set waste paper on fire .

The 12 -volt sockets can be used fo r electr ical
accessories. The power input must not exceed
120 watts.
There is an addi tional 12-vo lt socket in the
center console .
Before you purchase any accessories, always

r e plac em ent .
A WARNING
The power out lets and therefore the elec ­
trical accessories connected to them oper- ate only with the ignit
ion on. Improper use
of the outlets or of electrical accessories
can lead to ser ious injuries or cause a fire.
For this reason, children should never be
l eft unattended in the vehicle -they could
be injured!

To avoid damaging the socket, only use plugs that fit properly .

When the engine is off and accessories are
still plugged in and are on , the vehicle bat­
tery can still be drained .
Storage
General overview
A WARNING

-Always remove objects from the instru­
ment panel. Any items not put away

when applying the brakes or when dr iv­

- When you are dr iving make s ure that
an yth ing you may have pla ced in the cen­
ter conso le or other storage loca tions
cannot fall out into the footwe lls . In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake or accelerate.
- Any pieces of clothing that you have
hung up must not i nterfere with the dr iv­
er's view. The coat hooks are des igned
only for lightweight cloth ing . Never hang
any cloth ing with hard, pointed o r heavy
objects in the pockets on the coat hoo ks .
During s udden braking or in an accident -
especia lly if t he a irbag is deployed -
these objec ts co uld in ju re any passen­
ge rs inside the ve hicl e.

Glove compartment
The glove compartment is illuminated,
cooled" and can be locked*.

Opening rear cupholders

~ Place the beverage in the holder and release
the arm. The arm swings back by itself and
automatically secures the beverage.
Closing cupholders
~ To close the cupholder, press on the center
section between the two arms and push the
cupholder in the slot as far as it will go .
A WARNING
Spilled hot liqu id can cause an accident

hot liquids, such as hot coffee or hot tea,

The cupholders in the door pockets are suita­
ble for 1 to 1.5-liter bottles.

Additional storage
There are a variety of storage compartments
and fasteners in various places in the vehicle .
- In the front center console.
- At the front end of the front seats*. You can
store objects weighing up to 1.5 kg in the
drawer and objec ts weighing up to 1 kg in
the hinged compartment .
- In the door trim.
- Coat hooks next to and above the rear doors.
- Nets* on the backrests of the front seats.
- Coat hooks/retaining hooks in the luggage
compartment.
A WARNING
- When driving, do not leave any hard ob­
jects on the rear window shelf or allow
your pet to sit on the shelf. They could become a hazard for vehicle occupants in
the event of sudden braking or a crash .
- Always remove objects from the instru­
ment panel. Any items not stored could
slide around inside the vehicle while driv ­
ing or when accelerating or when apply­ ing the brakes or when driving around a
corner .
- When you are driving make sure that
anything you may have placed in the cen­
ter console or other storage locations
cannot fall out into the footwells. In case
of sudden braking you would not be able
to brake or accelerate.
- Any articles of clothing that you have
hung up must not interfere with the driv­
er's view. The coat hooks are designed
only for lightweight clothing. Never hang

0 Adjusting the temperature
Separate temperatures can be selected for the
driver's and front passenger's side using the
left and right rotary controls . The tempera­
ture can be adjusted between +60
°F (+16 °C)
and +84 °F (+28 °C) . Outside this range, LO or
HI will appear on the air conditioner display .
In the two extreme settings the air condition­
er operates continuously with maximum cool­
ing or heating output, and the temperature is
not regulated automatically.

You can adjust the volume of air delivery man­
ually to suit your individual requirements.
Press the
IAUTOI button for automatic blower
regulat ion .

You can direct the flow of air manually to se­
lected outlets. The buttons can be operated
e ither separately or in combination . Press the
IAUTOI button for automat ic air distribution.
J Adjusting the seat heating
When you press the button, the seat heating
is switched on at level 3 (the highest level) .
The LEDs indicate the temperature level. To
reduce the temperature, press the button
again . T o switch off the seat heating, press
the button repeatedly unti l all the LEDs have
gone out.
The seat heating automatically switches from level 3 to level 2 after 10 minutes .
I@ F RON T! Switching the defroster on/off
The windscreen and s ide windows are defrost­
ed or demisted as quickly as possible . The air
output is increased to maximum and most of
the air comes out of the outlets below the
windscreen . The air recirculation mode is de­
activated. The temperature should be set to
+ 72
°F (22 °() or higher.
The defroster is switched off when the

!iii! REAR ! Switching the rear window
heating on/off
The rear window heating operates only when
the engine is running and switches off auto ­
matically after about 10 minutes.
Synchronisat ion
By pressing and ho lding the IAU TO j button,
you can set the temperature of the front pas­
senger's side to the temperature of the driv­
er's side. The synchronisation is deactivated as
soon as the temperature on the front pas­
senger's s ide is changed .
Air outlets
The thumbwhee ls can be used to open and
close the air outlets in the center and on ei­
ther side of the dashboard and rear center
console . The lever in the center of the outlets
can be used to adjust the direction of air flow.
Changing the temperature units
The temperature display can be switched be­
tween
° F and 0C. Press and hold the 1- ·1 but­
ton ¢
fig. 72 and turn the rotary control on
the driver's s ide to+ for 3 seconds.
A WARNING
- Do not use the recirculation for extended
periods of time. The windows could fog
up since no fresh air can enter the vehi­
cle. If the windows fog up, press the air
recir culation button again immediately
to switch off the air recirculation func­
tion or se lect defrost .
- Individ uals w ith reduced sensitivity to
pain or temperature could develop burns
when using the seat heating function. To
red uce the risk of injury, these individu­
als should not use seat heating .
(D Note
To avoid damage to the heating elements
in the seats, do not kneel on the seats or
place heavy loads on a small area of the
seat.

Audi drive select Driving settings
Introduction
App lies to vehicles: with Audi drive select
Drive select provides the possibility to experi­
ence different types of vehicle sett ings in one
vehicle. For instance, using the three
Com­
fort , Auto
and Dynamic modes, t he driver can
switch from a sporty to a comfortab le driving
mode with the press of a button.
Description
Applies to vehicles : with Audi drive select
The vehicle setup in each mode depends on
the vehicle's features. However, the engine,
automatic transmission and steering are al­
ways involved .
Engine and automatic transmission
Depending on the mode, the engine and the
automatic transmission respond quicker or in
a more balanced manner to accelerator pedal
movements. In the sporty dynamic mode, the
automatic transmission shifts at higher RPMs.
Steering
The steering adapts in terms of steering ef­
fort. Indirect steering that moves easily, like
the steering in comfort mode, is best suited
to long drives on a highway . In contrast, dy ­
namic mode provides sporty, direct steering .
Curve light*
The curve light adapts to driving on curves.
The pivot ing action and the lighting are also
adapted to the mode .
@ Tips
Selecting the Dynamic mode results in
sporty shift ing characteristics. The S gear
position engages automatically.

You can change the driving mode when the ve­
hicle is stationary or while driving. If traffic
permits, after changing modes, briefly take
your foot off the acce lerator pedal so that the
recently selected mode is a lso activated for
the engine and transm ission.
Comfort -provides a comfort-oriented vehicle
setup and is suited for long drives on high­
ways .
Auto -provides an overall comfo rtable yet dy­
nam ic dr iving feel and is suited for every day
use.
Dynamic -gives the drive r a sporty driving
feel and is suited to a sporty driving style.

Using the segme nts, you can estimate the dis­
tance to an object in front of or beh ind the ve­
hi cle r:1>fig. 94 . T he red lines mark the expect­
ed direction o f travel according to the steering
angle. A white segment indicates an ident ified
obstacle that is outside of the vehicle's path. Red segments show identified obstacles that
are in your veh icle's path. As your vehicle
comes closer to the obstacle, the segments move closer to the vehicle. At the latest the
coll is ion area has been reached when the next

Other things that can affect Advanced
Airbag performance
Changing the vehicle's suspension system can
change the way that the Advanced A irbag Sys­
tem performs in a crash. For example, using
tire-rim combinations not approved by Audi,
lowering the vehicle, changing the stiffness of
the suspension, including the springs, suspen­
sion struts, shock absorbers etc. can change
the forces that are measured by the a irbag
sensors and sent to the electronic co ntrol
u ni t. Some suspension changes can, for exam­
p le, increase the fo rce levels measured by the
se nsors and make the airbag system deploy in
crashes in w hich it would not dep loy i f the
changes had not been made. Other kinds of
changes may reduce the force levels meas ­
ured by the sensors and prevent the airbag
from deploying when it should.
A WARNING
Changing the vehicle's s uspension includ­
ing use of unapproved tire-rim combina­
tions can change Advanced Airbag pe r­
formance and increase the risk of ser ious
personal in jury in a crash.
- Never install suspe nsion components
t ha t do not have the same per fo rman ce
c h arac ter istics as the componen ts or igi­
nally insta lled on your vehicle .
- Never use ti re -r im combi nat ions tha t
h ave not been approved by A udi.
A WARNING
-
Items s tored between the safety belt
buckle and the center console can cause
the sensors in the buckle to send the
wrong information to the electronic con­ tro l modu le and prevent the Advanced A ir­
bag System from work ing properly.

-Always ma ke s ure that nothing can inter­
fere with the safety belt buckles and that
they are not obstructed.
Side airbags
Description of side airbags
The airbag system can provide supplemental
protection to properly restrained occupants .

The side airbags are located in the sides of the
front seat backrests<=)

doo rs . They are identified by the word "AIR­
BAG".
The side airbag sy stem bas icall y consi st s of :
- t he ele ctron ic cont rol modu le and external
side impact sensors
- the two a irbags located in the s ides of the
front backrests
- t he airbag warning ligh t in the instrument
cluste r.
The airbag system is monitored electronically
to make ce rtain that it is f unctioning properly
at all times. Each time you turn on the ig ni­
tion, the airbag syst em ind icator light will
come on for a few seconds (se lf diagnostics).
The side airbag system supplements the safe­
ty belts and can help to red uce the risk of in­
jury to the driver's and front passenger's up­ per to rso on the s ide of the vehicle that is
str uck in a s ide collis ion. The ai rbag deploys
on ly in side impac ts and only when the vehicle
acce le ration reg istered by the cont ro l unit is
high enough. If this rate is be low the refer­
ence value programmed into the control unit,
the side airbags will not be triggered, even
