22 Driver information display
Service interval display
The service interval display reminds you when
your next service is due .

The schedule for the next oil change or inspec­
tion is calculated automatically and displayed
according ly . The display works in two stages:
Service reminder
30 days before the next service is due, a serv­
i ce reminder appears in the display when you
turn on the ignition
C? fig. 14.
Afte r about 5 seconds the display sw itches
back to normal. The distance and time re­
maining are updated each time the ignition is
turned on until the date due for service is
reached.
Service due
When the due date for service is reached, the
message
Service due! appears in the instru­
ment cluster immediately after you turn on
the ignition. Additionally, a warn ing tone
sounds. After about 5 seconds the display
switches back to normal.
Calling up the service schedules
If or when an oil change or inspect ion is due,
can be shown in the radio or MMI* display by
selecting the serv ice interval display in the car
menu. Select

Your a
uthorized Audi dea ler will reset the cor­
responding se rvice schedule after performing
the appropriate service on your vehicle. You
also have the possibility to reset the oil
c h ange schedule after having performed an
o il change according to Audi specifications.

If you disconnect the battery terminals, no
calculations can be made for the service
int erva l display during this time and no
serv ice reminder will appear. Remember
that observing the proper serv ice intervals
is vitally important to extending the life of
your vehicle, particularly the engine, and
maintaining its value. Do not exceed the
time interval for the next service, even if
the veh icle m ileage is low.
(D Tips
- Do not reset the display between oil
changes, otherwise the display will be in­
correct .
- The information in the Service Reminder
remains stored even when the vehicle
battery is disconnected .

Trip computer
Introduction
The trip computer gives you information on
current and average fuel mileage, average
speed, fuel rang e and driving tim e.

eva luate d by the trip compu ter and can be dis ­
p layed sequent ia lly in the instrument cl uster
d isp lay:
Fuel range
The estim ated cruising r ange in miles (k m)
appears in the display . This te lls you how far
your veh icle w ill be able to t ravel on the cur ­
rent tank of fue l and with the same dr iving
style. The display changes in increments of 6
m iles (10 km).
Average fuel mileage
The ave rage fue l economy in MPG (l/ 100 km)
since you last clea red the memory appears i n
this display. Yo u can use th is disp lay to adjust
your driving technique to achieve a desired
mileage.
Current fuel mileage
The instantaneo us fue l cons umption in miles
pe r gallo n (l/ 100 km) is shown in this d isp lay .
You can use this display to adj ust your dr iving
techniq ue to ach ieve a des ired mileage.
Fu el consumption is reca lcula ted at interva ls
of 33 yards (30 mete rs) . This display switches
to ga llons/ho ur (lite rs/hou r) when the vehicle
is not mov ing.

T he average spee d in mph ( km/ h) since the
l ast time the display was reset appea rs in the
display.
Elapsed time
T he length o f time that yo u have been d rivi ng
s in ce you last re se t the memory appea rs i n
t h is disp lay.
Distance
The distance t hat has been covered since the
l ast t im e the m emory was clea red appea rs in
t he d isplay .

- All sto red val ues will b e lost if t he vehi­
cle battery is di sconnected.
Memories
The trip comput er is equipped with two fully
automatic memories as well as an efficiency
p rog ram*.

If the master key is no longer in the vehicle,
you cannot sw itch off the ignition after stop­
ping the engine and you a lso cannot start the
engine again . You also cannot lock the vehicle
from the outs ide.

A WARNING
- Light bulbs are pressurized and could ex­
plode wh ile they are being changed caus­
ing serious personal injury.
- Work with due care when handling the high-voltage section of gas discharge
(xenon) lights* . Failure to do so could re­
sult in death or serious injury .

@ Tips
-The operation of the remote contro l key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer­
ence from transmitters in the vicinity of
the veh icle work ing in the same frequen­
cy range (e .g . a cell phone, radio equip ­
ment) .
- If you open the dr iver's door with the key
left in the ign ition lock, a chime will
sound . This is your reminder to remove
the key and lock the door .
- For security reasons , replacement keys
are only available from Aud i dea lers .

Fog lights
The s ide marker lig hts or low beams must be
switched on . When the fog lights a re switched
on, the green check light at the edge of the
sw itch comes on.
If automatic driving light control AUTO is act i­
vated, the low beams are switched on when
the fog lights are tur ned on .
Rear fog lights

When the rear fog lights a re turned on, the
yellow check ligh t a t the edge of the switch
comes on.

turned off.

time the ignition is switched on.
Travel mod e (Canada models)*
The headlight beam is asymmetrical. This pro­
vides stronge r illum ination on the s ide of the
road on which you are driving . If you are driv ­
ing in a co untry that drives on the opposite
side of the road from your own country, this
will cause glare for oncoming drivers. To pre­
vent glare:
- Trave l mode must be selected in vehicles
with Xenon headlights*.
- In vehicles with halogen headlights, certain
areas of the head light lenses must be cov­
ered with waterproof adhesive covers that
prevent light from passing through. For
more information, please see your author­
ized Audi dealer or author ized repair facility .

Instrument lighting
The basic brightness of the illumination for
the instruments, the center console and the
display can be adjusted .

T he ill umination for the instrument cluster
lights up w henever you switch on the igni­
tion with the vehicle headlights off. As the
day light fades, the instrument cluster i llu­
mination likewise dims automatica lly and
will go out completely when the outside li ght is very low. This feature is meant to
r emind you to switch on the head lights
whe n outside lig ht conditions become
p oor .

The adaptive lig ht system is a combin ation o f
the dynam ic and the static corneri ng lights.
Wi th the lights switched on, the dynamic cor ­
ner ing light adapts to driving on curves. This
is dependent upon t he vehicle speed and
steering ang le. This provides better lighting
through the curve. The system operates in a
speed range from approximate ly 6 mph
(10 km/h) to 68 mph (110 km/h) .
The static cornering light switches on at
speeds of up to approximately 25 mph

A WARNING
Check all the roof rack connections each
time before each trip and re-tighten or re­
adjust if necessary. If you are going to be
driving or rough terrain, you will have to
check the attachments more often.
If you
do not do this, the risk of your luggage
coming loose and falling off is greater.
The pins and the roof rack claws must en­ gage securely into the holes and into the
edge of the roof railing when you tighten
the screws!
(j) Tips
You can adjust the width of the roof rack
by using a hexagon wrench and turning the
screws on the top. Let your authorized
Audi dealer help you with this.

Roof load
The cargo on the roof must be securely at­
tached. Handling characteristics change
when cargo is transported.
The permissible roof load for your vehicle is
165 lbs (75 kg). The roof load is the total of
the weight of the roof rack, the attachments
and the cargo you are carrying.
A WARNING
-The cargo must be securely attached on
the roof rack, otherwise you risk an acci­
dent.
- Distribute the load as evenly as possible
and do not make the roof rack wider than
the maximum permitted.
- You must under no circumstances exceed
the permissible roof load, the permissi­ ble axle loads and the permissible overall
weight of your vehicle - risk of an acci­
dent.
- Mount the attachments to the roof rack
only after you have placed the roof rack
on the vehicle.
- Consider that when transporting heavy
objects or one with a large surface, the
handling characteristics change due to
shift in the center of gravity or the great­
er surface exposed to the wind. So adapt
your driving and your speed to prevailing
conditions. We recommend that you do not drive faster than 80 mph (130 km/
h).
- Mounting a roof rack changes the height
of your vehicle . Keep this in mind when
parking your vehicle in your garage, or
when driving through a tunnel or under
an overpass.

What can adaptive cruise control do?
The adaptive cruise control works in conjunc­
tion with a radar sensor installed in the front
of the vehicle
¢ page 107, fig. 114, which is
subject to designated system limits
¢page 109. Stationary objects are disregard­
ed .
On open roads w ith no traffic, adaptive cruise
control works like a regular cruise control sys­
tem. The stored speed is maintained. When
approaching a moving vehicle detected up
ahead, the adaptive cruise control system au ­
tomatically slows down to match that vehi­
cle's speed and then maintains the distance
that the driver previously stored. As soon as
the system does not detect a vehicle up ahead, adaptive cruise control accelerates back up to the stored speed.
Which functions can be controlled?
When you switch adaptive cruise control on,
you can set the current speed as the "control speed"
¢ page 109, Switching on and off.
When driving, you can stop cruise control
¢ page 111 or change the speed ¢ page 11 0
at any time .
You can a lso set the distance to the object

You can set any speed between 20 mph and
95 mph (30 and 150 km/h).
Indicator lamps and messages in the instru­
ment cluster display inform you about the cur­
rent system status and settings.

• To accelerate manually, press the accelera­
tor pedal. The message

• To resume adaptive cruise control, remove
your foot from the gas pedal. The system re­
turns again to the speed that was saved be ­
fore.
• You can save a new speed at any t ime by
pressing thelSETI button

Canceling cruise control while driving

ments, tap the switch again to the left or
r ight. The distance between the two vehicles
w ill c hange in the instrument cluster dis­
p lay .
When approach ing a moving vehicle up ahead,
the adapt ive cruise control system brakes to
match that object's speed and then mainta ins
the stored distance. If the vehicle ahead ac­
ce lerates, adaptive cruise contro l will also ac­
celerate up to the stored speed.

Depend ing on the driv ing s ituation and the

In certain cases, a vehicle will be classified as
cr itical for a lane change even if it is still
somewhat far away. The fas ter a vehicle ap­
p roaches, the sooner the display in the exteri­
or m irror will t urn on.
@ Vehicles traveling with you
Vehicles traveling w ith you are indicated in the
exterior m irror if they are classified as cr itical
for a lane change. All vehicles detec ted by
side assist are indicated by the time they en­
ter your "blind spot", at the latest.

@ Vehicle s left behind
If you s low ly pass a vehi cle that s ide assist has
detected (the difference in speed between the
vehicle and you r vehicle is less than 9 mph or
15 km/h), the display in the exterio r mir ror
turns on as soon as the vehicle enters your blind spot.
T he disp lay will not t urn on if you quickly pass
a vehicle that side assist has detected (the dif­
ference in speed between the veh icle and your
vehicle is greater than 9 mph or 15 km/h).
Functi onal limitations
The radar sensors are designed to detect the
left and right adjacent lanes when the road
lanes are the normal width. In certain situa­
tions, the d isp lay in the exterior mirror may
turn on even though there is no veh icle locat­
ed in the area that is cr itical for a lane change.
For example:
- if the lanes are narrow or if your are dr iving
on the edge of your lane.
If this is the case,
the system may have detected the vehicle in
another lane that is
not adjacent to you r
current lane .
- if you a re driving through a curve. Side assist
may react to a vehicle that is one lan e ove r
from the adjacent lane.
- if side assist reacts to other objects (such as
high or d isp laced guard rails) .
- In poor weather conditions. The side assist
functions are l imited .
Do not
cover the radar sensors c> fig. 128 with
stickers, depos its, bicycle wheels or other ob­
jects, because this will affect the funct ion. Do
not use s ide ass ist when towing a trailer. For
i nformation on cleaning, refer to
c> page 219 .
