The automatic dimming function can be turned on and off
if required.

Automa tic dimming func tio n
The automatic dimming function is activated every time the ignition
is turned on . The green indicator light is lit to indicate auto dimming
is active.
When dim ming is activated, the inside m irror will darken
automati ­
cally
in response to the amount of light striking the mirror (such as
headlights from rearwa rd approaching vehicles). Even in dimm ing
mode, the mirror surface turns bright when :
• the interior light is switched on
• reverse gear is engaged .

& WARNING
The glas s of the in side re ar vie w mirror i s layered and cont ain s an
electrolyte to a chieve it s properties. Be aware of liquid electrolyte
leaking from a bro ken mirror gl ass. Thi s liquid can cause irrit ation
to skin , eyes , and re spir atory sy ste m . If you get el ectrolyte in your
e ye s or on your skin , immed iatel y rinse w ith plenty of w ater.

Liquid electrolyte leaked from a broken mirror glass wil l damage any
p lastic surfaces it comes in contact with . C lean up sp illed e lectrolyte
immediately with clear water and a sponge .

• If you sw it c h off the automati c di m mi ng function on the in side
mirror , autom atic dimming of the out side mirrors* will likewise be
dis abled .
• Check to make sure there are no objects preven ting light from
reaching the inside mirror.
• Do not attach any stickers to the windshie ld in front of the light
sensor*, as this would interfere with the automatic operation of the
headlig hts and the automatic d imming of the inside mirror.
• Be aware that automatic dimming of the inside mirror can only
operate properly if the rear window sun b lind* is retracted. •

farther away than when seen in a flat mirror. If you use this mirror to
estimate distances of fol lowing ve hicles when chang ing lanes, you
cou ld estimate incorrect ly and cause an accident .
• I f the mirro r housing is moved uninten tio nal ly ( for example,
while parking your vehicle), then you must first fo ld the mirror elec ­
tr ically. D o not readj ust the mirro r ho us ing manua lly . You could
damage the motor which contro ls the mirror .
• I f you take the veh ic le to an automatic car wash, y ou mus t fold
the exterior mirrors flat to prevent damaging them . Power folding
ex terior mirr ors* must no t be folded in or out by hand . Use the
power function!

If there shou ld be a malfunction in the electrica l system, you can
sti ll adj ust the outside mi rrors by pressing the edge of the mirro r.•

Automatic dimming for outside mirrors
The outside mirrors are dimmed together with the automatic
dimming o f the inside mir ror . When the ignition is switched on, the
mirrors dar ken au tomat ical ly dependin g on the light strik ing them
(e .g. head lights from the rear).
When t he in ter ior lig hting is switched on and when reverse gear is
engaged, the m irrors are switched back to the ir original brightness
(n ot di mmed).
& WARNING
The glass of the inside rear view mirror is layered and contain s an

Activating or deactivating the compass
The direction is displayed on the interior rear vie w mirror.

Clear vision
- To activate or deactivate, hold the@ button down until
the red display appears or disappears.
The digital compass only works with the ignition turned on. The
directions are displayed as initials:
N (North), NE (Northeast), E
(East), SE (Southeast), S (South), SW (Southwest), W (West), NW
(Northwest).
[ i ] Tips
To avoid inaccurate directions, do not allow any remote controls,
e lectrical systems, or metal parts close to the mirror. •

Setting the magnetic deflection zone
The correct magnetic deflection zone must be set in order
to display the directions correctly.

Hold the@=> page 89, fig. 83 button down until the
number of the set magnetic deflection zone appears on
the interior rear view mirror.
Adjust the magnetic deflection zone by repeatedly
pressing on the@ button. The set mode automatically
deactivates after a few seconds. •

Calibrating the compass
The compass has to be recalibrated if the display is wrong
or inaccurate.
- Hold the @button down until the letter C is displayed on
the interior rear view mirror.
- Dr ive in a circle at a speed of about 5 mph (10 km/h) until
a direction is shown on the interior rear view mirror.
& WARNING
The digital compass is to be used as a directional aid only. Even
though you may want to look at it while you are driving, you must
still pay attention to traffic, road and weather conditions as well
as other possible hazards. •

Deactivating
- Press t he button again . T he ind icato r light on the butto n
goes out.
T he system works at speeds faster than 19 mph (30 km/h) .
& WARNING
• Improper reliance on the side assist system can cause colli­
sions and seriou s per sonal injury:
- Never rely only on side assist when changing lanes .
- Always check rear view mirrors to make sure that it is safe to
c hange lanes.
• Side assist cannot detect all vehicles under all conditions­
danger of accident!
• Side assist cannot detect vehicles in time to alert you when
they approach from behind at very high speed , or fall drop back
very quickly.
• The radar sensor's
vision can be reduced or entirely blocked by
rain , snow, and heavy spray . This can result in side assist not
adequately detecting veh icles or , in some cases, not detecting
them at all . Always keep an eye on the direction you are traveling
and the relevant area around the vehicle.
• Please note that side assi st indicates there are approaching
vehicles, or vehicles in your bl ind spot , only after your vehicle has
reached a driving speed of at lea st 19 mph (30 km /h).
• Side assist signal does not work around tight corners (turning
radiu s less than 328 feet , or 100 m l.
• Side assist is no replacement for the driver's full attention . The
d river alone is responsible for lane changes and similar driv ing
maneuvers. Always keep an eye on the d ire ction you are travel ing
and the relevant area around the vehicle .

b lock the area on the rear bumper where the radar sensors are

If you press a function button on the MMI termina l, the visual
display disappears . Manually switching the parking assist on again
via the
p ,y 1 switch shows the visual image on the MM I display aga in.

R ear-view camera (rear view )
The rear-view camera picture::::> page 196, fig. 2 12 appears on the
MM I display as a mirror image. The rear -view camera picture has
orientation lines and marked s urfaces projected into it as an aid to
the parking process ::::> page

area . You shou ld stop backing up, preferably before you reach this

If your vehicle is close to an obstacle, the visual distance display
a lso appears in the picture from the rear -view camera . This superim ­
posed display is intended to help d isplay the relevan t critica l vehicle
area.
I f the visual d isplay is shown on the MMI display and you press the
control button with the Rear view function::::> page

I f you press a function button on the MMI te rmina l, the rear-view
camera p icture disappears. The rear -v iew came ra picture reappears
the next time you park. But the picture from the rear -view camera
can also be shown aga in on the MM I display by manually switching
off and on with the
P •1A switch . Further information regarding the
MMI terminal is included in the MM I user's ma nual.

• Sensor s have dead space s in which obje cts cannot be
detected. Be e spe cially careful to check for small children and
an imals before ba cking up . Small children and animals will not
always be detected by the sensors.
• The Audi parking system is not a substitute for being careful
and alert when backing up. Be e spe cially careful during parking
and similar maneuver s. A lways watch where you are dri ving and
make sure that nothing is in the way.
• Remember that low ob sta cles which have already been
s ignaled may pass below the system' s sen sing zone when the
v ehi cle is ba cking up . The fa ct that the signal stop s doe s not mean
that you have cleared the obstacle . When the signal stops , impact
is imminent . Obje cts su ch as trailer hit che s, chain s, narrow posts
or fences covered by a thin l ayer of paint may not always be
detected by the sy stem. They can still damage your vehicle
without warning .
• Alway s make sure that the volume and frequency of the chime s
is adjusted so that you can eas ily hear the acoustic distance signal
even if the radio is playing , the air -conditioner blower is on High or
there is a high level of out side noise .
- Check the setting s whenever someone else has dri ven the
vehicle before you.
• Improper relian ce on the Aud i parking sy stem can cau se colli ­
sions and serious per sonal injury .
- Never rely only on parking assi st when ba cking up .
- Always check rear view mirrors to make sure it is safe to back
up .

• The rear -view camera picture is available as soon as the MMI
Disp lay or the MMI is swi tch ed o n, or the start -up phase is

and curves are shown . To change the s ide that is shown, simp ly
change the turn signa l.
The displayed light b lue

turn-around point when maneuvering to park. If the curved line
touches the curb, the steering wheel turn -around point has been
reached => page 198, fig. 215.
T he distance from the rear bumper © to the red line © is approxi ­
mate ly 1.3 ft (40 cm). Here, at the latest, you shou ld s top bac king up

Please note that objects not tou ching the g round ca n appear to be
further away than they really are (for example , the bumper of a
parked vehi cle , a trailer hitch , or the re ar of a truck ). In th is case ,
you should not u se the guide h elp lines to mea sure distance -
danger of a ccident !

In the MMI Display, the direction of travel of the vehicle rear is repre ­
sented depending on the steering w heel angle. The veh ic le front
swings out more than the veh icle rear.

• I n order for the rear -v iew camera to function properly, the
camera lens=> page 191, fig. 205 must be kept clean, and free of
snow and ice . P lease follow the additional notes on => page
204 .
• T he positions of the orientation lines/ surfaces are disp laced up
or down if the pa rk ing process is carried out with the rear-view
camera in Adaptive Air Suspension*=> page 21 dynamic, off road, or
l if t m ode. Therefore, the accuracy is reduced. •

Parking next to obstacles
When parking next to an obstacle, enough distance mus t
left on the side.

With "parking mode 2", you can park very c losely to a sidewalk curb
with your vehicle=> page 194, fig. 209.
However, when parking next to an obstacle, such as a brick wall , a
larger side distance must be selected in order to prevent col lisio n
damage to the vehicle. Position the long side of the marked blue
s u rface so that there is enoug h distance from the curb; the surface
must not touch the curb=> fig. 216.
A lso, the turning process has to occur considerab ly sooner . This
means that the corresponding blue curved line=> page 198, fig. 215
must not touch the curb, but shou ld rather be at a distance far
enough from the curb=>& .
& WARNING
• Keep plenty of di sta nce from an obstacle , so that your out side
mirror or a corner of your vehi cle does not collide with any obsta-
cle s -danger of accident!
