Turn the light sw itch to the corresponding posi­
tion when the ignition is switched on.

In some markets, the daytime running lights, tail
lights and license plate light are always on .

on. In vehicles for certain markets, you can
switch the a utomat ic daytime running lights on
and off in the Infotainment* system.

surrounding brightness.

Buttons
When you t urn the light switch to the AU TO or
low beam headlight pos ition
io, you can activate
the following functions:
1o -All-weather lights. The headlights automati­
cally adjust so that t here w ill be less glare, for
examp le when the road surface is wet.

Automatic headlight range control system
Your veh icle is equipped with an automatic head­
light range control system that red uces g lare fo r
oncom ing traffic if the veh icle load c hanges . The
headl ig ht ra nge ad justs automa tic a lly.

Audi adaptive light
Appl ies to: vehicles with adaptive light
Adaptive ligh t provides better visibili ty whe n it i s
dark by adapting the lights to the road conditions
based on speed , such as on e xpressways, rura l
roads, at intersections, and in c urves. The adap­
t ive light only functions when the light sw itch is
i n the AUTO position .
A WARNING
--Automatic headlights* are on ly intended to
assist the driver. They do not relieve the
driver of responsibil ity to check the head­
lights and to t urn t hem on manua lly based
on t he curren t ligh t and v is ibility condition s.
For examp le, fog canno t be detec ted by the
light sensors. So always switch on the low
beams under these weather co nditions and
when driv ing in the da rk
io .
- To prevent glare for traffic behind yo ur vehi ­
cle, the rear fog lights should only be turned
on in accordance with traff ic regulat ions.
- Always observe legal regulations when us­
ing the lighting systems desc ribed .
(D Tips
- The lig ht sensor for the automat ic he ad ­
lights * is in the rearview mir ror mount. Do
not p lace any st ickers in this area on the
windshield.
- A warning tone will sound if you open the door when the exte rior lights a re switched
on .
- Only t he front headlights turn on when t he
daytime running lights are switched on *. In
vehicles in certain markets, the tail lights
w ill also turn on .
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of the
head lights, turn signa ls and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperature diffe rence
between the inside and outside . They will
clear shortly afte r swi tching them on . This
does not aff ect the service life of the light­
mg.

sion when opening the door . Within the limits of
the system, the system monitors the areas be­
hind and next to the vehicle using the radar sen­

up to approximately three minutes after un­
locking the vehicle and opening the door as
well as after switching off the ignition . Then
the system switches off with a brief flashing
of the displays.
- The exit warning system cannot notify you
of every approaching object or person, such
as joggers or pedestrians .
A WARNING
The exit warning system is subject to limita­
tions and cannot warn you before every im­
pending coll is ion:
- If the veh icle is too wide for the parking
space and covered by the neighboring
veh icles.
- Approaching objects or peop le such as cy­
clists or skateboarders may not be detected
under certain circumstances.
- The system does not react to stat ionary ob­
jects.
- The view of the radar sensors may be im­
paired by leaves, snow, heavy spray or dirt .

The rear cross-traffic assist is act ivated automat i­
cally if you turn on the parking aid

The rear cross-traffic assist can warn of a poten­
tial collision with approaching cross-traffic when
driving in reverse at speeds up to approximately
9 mph (15 km/h) . Within its limits, the system
monitors the areas behind and next to the vehicle
using the radar sensors when leav ing a parking
space

- The rear cross-traffic assist is an assist sys­
tem and cannot prevent a collision by itself.
The driver must always intervene. The driver
is always responsible for braking at the cor­ rect t ime.
- Please note that the rear cross-traff ic assist
may activate the brakes unexpectedly. Se­
cure a ny cargo that you are transpo rting to
reduce the r is k of damage or inju ry.
- Automatic braking cannot be triggered
aga in within 20 seconds afte r an a utomat ic
brake activation.
- If the re is a n acoust ic warning signal from
the rea r cross-traffic assist, then the park­
ing system may no t w arn you of detected
obstacles under ce rtain c ircumstances.

Night vision assist
Description
Applies to: vehicles with night vision assist
The night vision assist can detect, highlight and,
if necessary, warn about pedestrians and large
wild animals.
N ight vision assist he lps yo u when it is dark by
u sing an infra red camera to mon itor the area in
front of your ve hicle, w ith in the limits of the sys­
tem . It ca n disp lay objects up to a distance of ap­
prox ima tely 1 000 feet (300 m). The thermal im ­
age de te cte d by t he came ra is show n in t he in ­
str ument cluster disp lay . Wa rm areas appear
li ghter and co ld areas a ppear da rker.

Depending on your vehicle 's equipment , various
parking aids will help you when parking and ma­
ne uvering.

-Always look for t raff ic and check the area
around your vehicle by looking at it direct ly
as well. The parking system cannot replace
the driver's attention . The driver is always
responsib le when entering or leaving a park­
ing space and during similar maneuvers.
- Please note that some surfaces, such as
clothing, are not detected by the system.
-
-Sensors and cameras have blind spots in
which people and objects cannot be detect­
ed . Be especially caut ious of small children
and animals.
- Always keep your eyes on the vehicle 's sur­
round ings, using the rearview mirror as
well.
- The sensors can be displaced by impacts or
damage to the radiator gr ille, bumper,
wheel housing and the underbody . The park ­
ing system may be impa ired as a result .

@ Note
-Some objects are not detected or disp layed
by the system under certain circumstances:
- objects such as barrier chains, trailer draw
bars, vertical poles or fences
- objects above the sensors such as wall ex­
tensions
- objects with certain surfaces or structures
such as cha in link fences or powder snow
- If you continue driving closer to a low ob­
ject, it may disappear from the sensor range . Note that you will no longer be
warned about th is obstacle .
- Keep enough distance from the curb to re­
duce the risk of damage to the rims .
(D Tips
-The system may provide a warning even
though there are no obstacles in the cover­
age area in some situations, such as :
- certa in road s urfaces or whe n the re is tall
grass
- externa l ult rasonic sources such as from
cleaning vehicles
- in heavy rain, snow, or th ick vehicle ex­
ha ust
- We recommend that you practice par king in
a traffic -free location o r parking lot to be­
come familiar with the system . When doing
this, there shou ld be good light and weath­
er conditions.
- You can change the vo lume of the signa ls

Description

The rear parking system is an audible parking
aid .
Desc ripti on
There is a sensor in the rear bumper cover. If
these detect an obstacle, audible signals warn
you .
Make sure the sensors are not covered by stick­
ers, deposits or any other obstructions as it may
impair the function of the system . For informa­
tion on cleaning, see
c::;, page 351 .
The range at which the sensors begin to measure
is approximately:
side 3 ft (0.90 m)
rear
center 5.2 ft (1.60 m)
The closer you get to the obstacle, the shorter
the interval between the audible signals . A con­
tinuous tone sounds when the obstacle is less
than approximately 1 foot (0.30 meters) away.

If the distance to an obstacle remains constant,
the volume of the distance warning gradually
lowers after a few seconds until it is muted (this
is not apply in the continuous tone range). If the
obstacle becomes closer than it was before the
sound was m uted, the tone will sound again . If
the obs ta cl e is fa ther away tha n it was before the
sound was m uted, no tone w ill so und . Pay atten­
tion to the vehicle's surroundings when you start
to drive.
Switching on automatically
The system switches on automatica lly w hen re­
ve rse gear is engaged while the engine is run ­
ni ng. A brief co nfirma tion tone wi ll sound.

switches to trai ler mode.

front sensors remain activated. The visual display
switches to trai ler mode. The rearview camera
image will not show the orientation lines and the
b lue surfaces.

Trailer hitches that are not installed at the
factory may cause the parking system to ma l­
function or they may restrict its function.
