Opening and closing
Once the front passenger's door has been closed,
you cannot open it again from the outside. The
door can be opened from the inside by pulling
the door handle.
A WARNING
Read and follow all WARNINGS¢.& in Gener­
al description on page 30.
(D Tips
After the ignition is switched on, the power
locking system switch and the unlocking but­
ton for the rear lid~ in the door are ena­
bled.
Electronic immobilizer
The immobili zer prevents your vehicle from being
started by unauthorized persons .
Inside the key there is a computer chip . This chip
automatically activates/deactivates the electron­ ic immobilizer .
Applies to vehicles with ignition lock:
The electronic immobilizer deactivates automati­
cally when you insert the remote control key into
the ignition lock.
It activates again automatically
when you remove the remote control key from
the ignition lock.
Applies to vehicles with convenience key:
If the remote control key is located inside the ve­
hicle and you press the
! S TAR T ENGINE ST OPI
button, the electronic immobilizer deactivates
automatically . If you swi tch the ignition off and
remove the remote control key from the vehicle,
the electronic immobilizer activates again auto ­
mat ically.
A WARNING
Always take the key with you when you leave
the vehicle. The key can disarm the electronic
eng ine immobilizer and permit an unauthor­
ized person to start the engine and enable op­
eration of the vehicle systems such as power
window or power sunroof leading to serious personal injury.

@ Tips
- Th e vehicle cannot be started if an unau­
thorized key is used. The vehicle may not
start if another radio device such as a key
for another vehicle or a transponder is locat­ ed on the key ring.

-After closing the rear lid, a lways pull up on
it to make sure that it is properly closed.
Otherwise it could open suddenly when the
vehicle is mov ing .
- To he lp prevent poisonous exhaust gas from
being drawn into the vehicle, a lways keep
the rear lid closed wh ile driving. Never
transport objects larger than those wh ich fit
completely into the luggage a rea, because
then the rear lid cannot be fully closed .
- Never leave your vehicle unattended espe­
cially w ith the rear lid left open. A child
cou ld craw l into the car through the luggage
compartment and pull the lid sh ut, becom­
ing t rapped a nd unable to get ou t. To red uce
t he risk of personal inj ury, neve r let children
play in or around your vehicle. Always keep
the rear lid as well as the vehicle doors
closed when not in use.
- Always ensure that no one is w it hi n range of
tile rear lid when it is moving , in particular
close to the hinges - fingers or hands can be
pinched.

When the vehicle is locked, the rear lid can be
opened separately by pressing the button

on the master key. When yo u close the rear lid
aga in , it locks automatica lly .
Trunk escape handle
In cas e of an emerg ency, th e luggag e compart­
men t lid can be opened f rom the inside using the
trunk escape handle .

The driver can operate the window regulator for
the driver's door with the left switch and the win­
dow regulator for the passenger's door with the
right switch .

A WARNING
- When you leave your vehicle -even if only
briefly -always remove the ignition key. This
applies part icularly when children remain in
the vehicle. Otherwise the children could start the engine or operate electr ical equip­
ment (e.g. power w indows). The power win­
dows are functional until the driver's door o r
passenger's door has been opened.
- Pay close atten tion when closing the w in­
dows to prevent pinch ing of hands or limbs.
- When locking the vehicle from outs ide, the
vehicle must be unoccupied since the win­ dows can no longer be opened in an emer­
gency.
(I) Tips
- When you open the doo rs, the windows au­
tomatically lower about 10 mm.
- After the ignition has been switched off, the
windows can st ill be opened or closed for
about 10 m inutes. The window regulators
are not switched until the dr iver's or pas­
senger's door is opened .
Convenience opening/closing
The windows and the panoramic tilting sunroof
can be opened and closed with the mechanical
key or the emergency key.

When the panoramic tilting sunroof is tilted/
closed, the electric sun shade* is also opened/
closed.
A WARNING
- Never close the windows and the panoram ic
tilting sunroof inattentively and without
checking -there is risk of injury .
- You must always watch when the w indows
are be ing raised so that no one can be trap ­
ped. If you release the key, the closing ac­
tion is immed iate ly canceled .

Correcting window regulator malfunction
After disconnecting the vehicle battery , the one­
touch up and down feature must be activated
agatn.

To help you see the cu rb when backing into a
parking space, the surface of the mi rror tilts
slightly. For this to happen, the knob must be in
the position for the front passenger 's outside
mirror .
You can adj ust the ti lted mirror surface by turn ­
ing the knob in the desired direction . When you
move out of reverse and into another gear, the
new mirror position is stored and assigned to the
key you are using.
The mirror goes back into its origina l position
once you drive forward faster than 9 mph
(15 km/h) or turn the ignition
off.
A WARNING
Curved mirror surfaces (convex or spherical*)
increase your field of view. Remember that
vehicles or other objects will appear smaller
and farther away than when seen in a flat mir­
ror .
If you use this mirro r to estimate distan­
ces of following veh icles when changing
lanes, you cou ld es timate incorrectly and
cause an accident .
(D Note
-If the mirror hous ing was moved by force
(fo r example, by running into an object
when maneuvering the vehicle), the m irror
must be folded all the way in using the pow­
er folding function. The mirror housing
must not be moved back into place by hand
because this would impair the function of
the mirror mechanism.
- If you wash the vehicle in an automatic car
wash, you must fold the exterior mirrors in
Li ghts a nd Visio n
to reduce the risk of damage to the mirrors.
Never fold power fo lding exterior mirrors*
by hand . On ly fold them in and out us ing
the power controls.
@ Tips
- If the power adjusting function malfunc­
tions, the glass in both mirrors can be ad­
justed by pressing on the edge of it by hand.

A WARNING
Electrolyte fluid can leak from automatic dim ­
ming mirrors if the g lass is broken. Electrolyte
flu id can irritate skin, eyes and respiratory
system.
- Repeated or prolonged exposure to e lectro­
lyte can cause irritat ion to the respiratory
system, especially among people with asth­
ma or other resp iratory conditions. Get
fresh a ir immediately by leaving the vehicle
or, if t hat is not possible, open windows and
doors all the way.

Lights and Vision
-If electrolyte gets into the eyes, flush them
thoroughly with large amounts of clean wa­
ter for at least 15 minutes; medical atten­
tion is recommended .
- If electrolyte contacts skin, flush affected
area with clean water for at least 15 mi­
nutes and then wash affected area with
soap and water; medical attention is recom­
mended . Thoroughly wash affected clothing
and shoes before reuse.
- If swallowed and person is conscious, rinse
mouth with water for at least 15 minutes .
Do not induce vomiting unless instructed to
do so by medical professional. Get medical
attention immediately.
(D Note
Liquid electrolyte leaking from broken mirror
glass will damage any plastic surfaces it
comes in contact with. Clean up spilled elec­
trolyte immediately with clean water and a
sponge.
(D Tips
- Switching off the dimming function of the
inside rear view mirror also deactivates the
automatic dimming function of the exterior
mirrors.
- Automatic dimming for the mirror only op­
erates properly if the sun shade* for the rear
window is not in use or the light striking the
inside mirror is not hindered by other ob­
jects.
- The automatic dimming mirrors do not dim when the interior lighting is turned on or
the reverse gear is selected.

be pulled out of their brackets in the center of
the vehicle and turned towards the doors@.

You can adjust the settings for the rear sun shade
so the shade retracts automatically when you se­lect the reverse gear. To do this, select the

WARNING
When lowering or raising the sunshade, make
sure there is nothing in its way and that it has
a free path to travel. This could cause person­
al injury.
@ Tips
- Pressing the button rn several times con­
secutive ly can trigger the overload protec·
tion. The sun shade can only be extended/
retracted again after a brief waiting period.
- The rear window sun shade only funct ions
when the vehicle interior is warmer than
14°F (-10°C).

vehicles with a ra in sensor* the wipers turn on in
the rain once the vehicle speed exceeds approxi ­
mately 2 mph (4 km/h). The higher the sensitivi ­
ty of the rain sensor* is set (switch @to the
right), the earlier the windshield wipers react to
moisture on the windshield . In some models, you
can switch ra in sensor mode off and switch inter­
mittent mode on in the MMI* . Select : !CAR I func­
tion button
> Car systems* control button > Driv­
er assist> Rain sensor.
In intermittent mode ,
you can adjust the interval time using the@
switch.

@-Single wipe
® -Clean the w indshie ld. To eliminate water
droplets, the windshield wiper performs one af­
terwipe operation after several seconds whi le
driv ing. You can switch this function off by mov­
ing the lever to position ® within
10 seconds of
the afterwipe operation. The afterwipe function is reactivated the next time the ignition is switch­
ed on .
Cleaning the headlights*. The headlight washer
system* operates only when the headlights are
on . If you move the lever to position @, the
headlights are washed in intervals.
A WARNING
--The rain sensor is only intended to assist the
driver. The driver is still respons ible for
manually switch ing the wipers on according
to the visibility conditions.
- The windshield may not be treated with wa­
ter-repelling windshield coating agents. Un­
favorable conditions, such as wetness, dark­
ness, low sun, can result in increased glare.
Wiper blade chatter is also possib le .
- Properly functioning windshield wiper
blades are required for a clear view and safe
driving

- In the case of frost, check whether the
windshield wiper blades are frozen to the

Glove compartment
The glove compartment is illuminated and can
be locked .

dle in the direction of the arrow

.. To close the glove compartment, push the
glove compartment lid upward until the lock
engages .
The glove compartment can be locked using the
mechanical key

On the right side in the glove compartment is a
holder with the key body into which the emergen­
cy key must be clipped to be able to start the ve­
hicle.
A WARNING
To reduce the risk of personal injury in an acci­ dent or sudden stop, always keep the glove
compartment closed while driving.
Additional storage
There are a variety of storage compartments and
fasteners in various places in the vehicle.
- In the roof headliner above the rearview mirror .
- On the back of the front seat. The compart-
ment can hold a maximum weight of 1 kg.
- On the left and right of the luggage compart­
ment, behind the side trim.
- Garment hooks on the pillars in the rear of the
vehicle.

A WARNING , -
- When driving, do not leave any hard objects
on the rear window shelf or allow your pet
to sit on the shelf . They could become a haz­
ard for vehicle occupants in the event of
sudden braking or a crash.
-Always remove objects from the instrument
panel. Any items not stored could slide
around inside the vehicle while driving or
when accelerating or when applying the brakes or when driving around a corner.
- When you are driving make sure that any­
thing you may have placed in the center con­
sole or other storage locations cannot fall
out into the footwells. In case of sudden braking you would not be able to brake or
accelerate .
- Any articles of clothing that you have hung
up must not interfere with the driver's view .
The coat hooks are designed only for light­
weight clothing. Never hang any clothing
with hard, pointed or heavy objects in the pockets on the coat hooks. During sudden
braking or in an accident -especially if the
airbag is deployed -these objects could in­
jure any passengers inside the vehicle.
- To reduce the risk of personal inju ry in an ac­
cident or sudden stop, always keep the
glove compartment closed while driving.
- Read and follow all WARNINGS
¢ page 146, Important safety instructions
on the side airbag system.
- Hang clothes in such a way that they do not
impair the driver's vision.
- The coat hooks must only be used for light­
weight clothing. Do not leave any heavy or
sharp edged objects in the pockets which
may interfere with the side curtain airbag
deployment and can cause personal injury in
a crash.
- Do not use coat hangers for hanging cloth­
ing on the coat hooks as this can interfere
with proper deployment of the side curtain airbags in an accident.
- Do not hang heavy objects on the coat
hooks, as they could cause personal injury in
a sudden stop .

-Always keep the compartment above the
rearview mirror closed while driving to re­
duce the risk of injury in the event of sudden
braking maneuvers or a collision .
CJ) Note
Objects located on the rear shelf that rub
against the rear window could damage the
heating wires for the rear window defogger.
@ Tips
-A vent slot is located between the shelf and
the rear window. Do not block the vent with
any items you may place on the rear window
shelf.
- Do not place bulky items on the rear window
shelf as they could restrict or block the driv­
er's vision in the rear view mirror .
Roof rack
Description and mounting locations
Additional cargo can be carried with a roof lug­
gage rock .

• Always read and follow the instructions provid­
ed by the roof rack manufacturer when instal­
ling the roof rack system .
If luggage or cargo is to be carried on the roof,
you must observe the following :
- Only use roof racks approved for your vehicle.
These approved roof racks are the basis for a complete roof rack system. Additional attach­
ments or carrier systems are needed to trans­
port luggage and sports equipment . We recom-

mend using roof racks from the Audi original
accessories program.
- When installing the roof rack, make sure it is
only mounted on the designated locations on
the roof

- We recommend that you keep the installation
instructions for your roof rack system together
with your Owner's literature in the vehicle.
When should the roof rack be removed?
-Before going through an automatic car wash (it
is best to ask the car wash operator for advice).
- When not in use, to reduce fuel consumption,
wind noise and to guard against theft .

- Use of an unapproved roof rack or incorrect
mounting of an approved roof rack can
cause the roof rack or the items attached to it to fall off the roof onto the road.
- Objects falling from the roof of a vehicle can
cause a crash and personal injury.
- Only mount the roof rack on the designated
locations on the roof

- The roof rack system must be installed ex­
actly according to the instructions provided.
- When driving with a roof rack system,
changes to the center of gravity and wind re­
sistance can change the vehicle handling
and lead to a co llision. Always adapt your
driving and your speed to the current condi­
tions.
(D Note
- Your vehicle warranty does not cover any
damages to the vehicle caused by using roof
racks or mounting structures not approved
by Audi for your vehicle. The same applies to
damage resulting from incorrect roof rack
installation.
- Always check the roof rack mountings and
hardware before each trip and during a trip
to make sure everything is securely tight­
ened. If necessary, retighten the mountings
and check the entire system from time to
