acceleration and heavy engine loads during
approximately the first 15 minutes when
the engine is cold is recommended. The
amount of time until the engine is warm de­
pends on the outside temperature. Check
the engine oil temperature* if necessary
¢ page 32.
-Auxiliary headlights and other accessories in
front of the cooling-air intake impair the
cooling effect of the coolant . This increases
the risk of the engine overheating during
high outside temperatures and heavy en­
gine load.
- The front spoiler also he lps to distr ibute
cooling air correct ly wh ile driving. If the
spo iler is damaged, the cooling effect will
be impaired and the risk of the engine over ­
heating will increase. See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fa­
cility for assistance.
@ Tips
Diesel engines: due to the high efficiency of
these engines, the engine may not always
reach operating temperature in cold outside
temperatures. This is normal and not a cause
for concern.

If the central indicator light © turns on, check
the additional information in the instrument
cluster display @ and @.
In addition to the indicator lights in the display,
there are addit ional ind icators in the tachometer .
They blink or turn on to indicate functions or mal­
functions . Messages @ may also appear briefly
with some indicator lights. A warning tone
sounds at the same time.
If there is more than one malfunction, the indica ­
tor lights will turn on one after the other for a short time.
The ind icator lights and messages in the display
can be covered by other d isplays . In cases where
the indicator light @ is hidden, the central ind i­
cator light © will remain visib le until the mal­
function is corrected.
The messages can be displayed aga in in the driv­
er information system

Overview
Some indicator lights turn on briefly as a funct ion
check when you sw itch the ignition on. These sys­
tems are marked with a./ in the following tab les.
If one of these ind icator lights does not turn on,
there is a malfunction in that system .
Your vehicle has either a monochrome display or
a multicolored disp lay, depending on vehicle
equipment. In a monochrome display, the indica­
tor lights @only appear in white ¢

- The seat is damp or wet.
A WARNING
Individua ls with reduced sensitivity to pain or
temperature could develop burns when using
the seat heating function. To reduce the risk
of injury, these individuals should not use
seat heat ing .
(D Note
To avoid damage to the heating elements in
the seats, do not kneel on the seats or place heavy loads on a small area of the seat.
(D Tips
- The setting for the seat heating on the driv­
er's side is ass igned to the key that is in use .
- If the front passenger 's seat heat ing is
turned on, it will not turn on again automat­
ically if more than 10 m inutes have passed
between sw itch ing the ign ition off and
switch ing it on again.
Auxiliary heater
A pp lies to vehicles: with diesel e ng in e
In cool outside temperatures, the electr ic auxi li­
ary heater helps the vehicle interior to wa rm
mo re quickly. The a uxiliary heater swi tches on
and off automatically accord ing to the vehicle
heating settings.
The "auxiliary heater " function can be sw itched
on and off in the MMI. Select: the
I MENU I button

T he engine preheater s lowly warms the engine
coolant using a heating element when the vehicle
is parked. For this function, the cable provided
must be connected to a 120 Volt socket that is
protected from water and t hat is grounded a nd
equipped with a GFI circu it breaker, for example
in a ga rage. The engine reaches operating tem­
perature much more quickly afte r sta rting when
t h e coolant is preheated . This reduces fuel con­
s u mption and exha ust emissions dur ing the
warm-up phase.
Preheat ing the engine can take up to 3 hours de­
pend ing on the temperature o utside.
Connecting the engine preheat er
- Only use the connector cable provided and a
suitable extension cord, if necessary .
- All cables and connectors that are used must not be damaged
~ li::,. .
-Open the cover(!).
- Plug the connector cable into the socket @.
- If necessary, plug the connector cable into the
extension cord. Only use highly durab le exten­
sion co rds that are class 12 or better and can
be properly grounded to a three-prong wall
socket with a GFI circuit breaker and that are
not longe r than 100 feet (30 meters) .
- Plug the connector cable or extension cord into
a grounded 120 Volt wall socket that is pro­
tected by a GFI circuit breaker and that is pro­
tected against rain and other moisture. Never p lug the engine preheater into a conventiona l .._

Climate control
Description
Applies to vehicles: with plug- in hybrid drive
Your vehicle has either auxiliary heating or auxili­
ary heat ing/ air conditioning*.
The auxiliary heating or the auxi liary heating/ air
conditioning* switches on depending on the out­
side temperature and the temperature set on the
climate control unit .
Switching on/off immediately

Setting the timer
.,. You can set the time when your vehicle should
reach the desired temperature. Your set tem­
perature and the outside temperature deter­
mine when the climate control switches on.
@ Tips
- The temperature that the climate control
system adjusts to depends on the last tem­
perature you set in the climate control unit

-The climate control system does not auto­
matically switch on or off earlier if the vehi­
cle battery charge or the fuel level is too low.

· Auxiliary climate control
Applies to vehicles: with plug-in hybrid drive without auxiliary
hea ting
The aux iliary climate control controls the tem­
perature in the vehicle inter ior ent irely with elec­
tric power. It turns on only if the high-voltage
battery charge level is sufficient and there is
enough fuel in the tank.
Auxiliary heating / air conditioning
Applies to vehicles: with plug-in hybrid drive and auxiliary
heat ing
The aux iliary heating/ air conditioning controls
the temperature in the vehicle interior if the
high-voltage battery charge level is suff icient and
there is eno ugh fuel in the tank.
The
.ill. symbo l blinks in the climate contro l unit
whe n auxiliary heating is switched on.
When the auxiliary heating/ air conditioning t im­
er is programmed, the Ill symbol stays turned on
until the departure t ime is reached.
& WARNING
- To reduce the risk of poisoning, the auxiliary
heating/ air conditioning must not run in
confined spaces .
- To redu ce the risk of fires, the auxiliary
heating/ air conditioning must not run
when refueling.
- Due to the high temperatures that result
from operating the auxiliary heating/ air
conditioning, the vehicle must be parked in
a way so that the hot exhaust can escape at
the bottom of the engine cover without ob­
struction. The exhaust must not come into
direct contact with highly flammab le mate­
r ials.
(D Tips
Water vapor can build up near the engine
compartment when outside temperatures are low. This is a natural phenomenon and is no
cause for concern.

-You can set the timer a maximum of 7 days
in advance.
- You can operate the climate control in the
vehicle interior when the high-voltage bat­
tery is charging using the charging timer
c>page 116.
-Make sure the time and date match in the
MMI settings so that the timer can function
properly. Refer to the MMI Operating Man­
ual for setting the date and time.
- The auxiliary heating or auxiliary heating/
air conditioning* can run longer after the
departure time is reached.

functions remotely using mobile devices (such as
a smartphone) or a web portal.
To use Audi connect e-tron services

- You will need to register for Audi connect e­

access and manage e-tron services and features

etron.audiusa.com. If you need assistance
with your Audi A3 e-tron EV services, you can
contact customer service at 844-573-8766.
- Your mobile devices must be compatible.

The Dr iver Information System collects data un­
der certain conditions and sends it to a server.
When data is stored, you can data such as the ex­
amples listed below using the Audi connect e­
tron services:
- Duration of the drive in hours and minutes,
- average speed driven in mph (km/h),
- distance driven in miles (km),
- average electric consumption .
For additional information on the Driver Informa­
tion System, refer to
c> page 28, Driver informa­
tion system.
Doors and lights

You can access and display the current status of
the following vehicle data on your mobile devices
without having to be inside the vehicle.
- If the vehicle doors and lids are open/closed,
- If the parking l ights are on/off.
For additional information on opening and clos­
i ng the doors or for the vehicle light ing, refer to
c> page 3 5, Opening and closing or to c> page 46,
Exterior lighting.
(D Tips
-If the high-voltage battery is not charged,
the amount of access requests is limited to
15 after switching off the ignition. This
helps conserve the 12 volt vehicle battery.
You cannot contro l functions or access in­
formation if the charge level of the 12 volt
vehicle battery is too low.
- If at least two minutes have passed after
the last time the ignition was switched off,

to moving components (such as the ribbed belt, alternator and radiator fan) and from
the high-voltage ignition system.
- Never reach into the radiator fan. The elec­
tric auxiliary fan is controlled by tempera­
ture and can switch on suddenly.
- Pay attention to the following warnings list­ ed when work on the fuel system or on the
electrical equipment is required.
- Always d isconnect the vehicle battery
from the vehicle electrical system
- Do not smoke
- Never work near open flames
- Always have a working fire extinguisher nearby
- To reduce the risk of electric shock and in­
jury, never touch the following components when the eng ine is running or is being start­
ed:
- Ignition cable
- Other components in the electronic h igh -
voltage ignition system
- If you must check or perform work on the engine while it is running:
- Set the parking brake and place the selec­
tor lever in the P (park) position first .
- Always proceed with extreme caution so
that clothing, jewelry or long ha ir do not
become caught in the radiator fan, fan
be lt or other moving components or do
not come into contact with hot compo­
nents. Tie back long hair before beginning
work and do not wear cloth ing that can
hang down into the engine.
- L imit your exposure to exhaust and chemi­
cals to as short a time as possible~&.

i ds up. Otherwise severe malfunctions and en­
gine damage will occur.

You should regularly check the ground under
your vehicle in order to detect leaks quickly. If there are visible spots from oil or other fluids, bring your veh icle to an authorized Audi deal­
er or authorized Aud i Serv ice Facility to be
checked.
Opening the hood
The hood is released from the interior .

Radiator fan
The radiator fan switches on outomotico/ly by it­
self.
An auxiliary elect ric radiator fan sw itches on and
off depend ing on coolant temperature and other
vehicle operating conditions.
After you switch the engine off, the auxiliary fa n
can cont inue runn ing fo r up to 10 minutes -even
with the ignition off . It ca n even switch on again
later by itself¢.&. , if
- the temperature of the engine coolant r ises due
to the heat bu ild -up from the engine in the e n­
gine compartment, or
- the engine compartment heats up because the
vehicle is parked in intense sunlight .
A WARNING
-To reduce the risk of pe rsonal injury never
touch the radiator fan .
- The auxiliary electric fan is temperature
controlled and can switch on suddenly even
when the eng ine is not running.
- The auxiliary radiator fan switches on auto­
matically when the engine coo lant reaches a
certain tempe rature and w ill cont inue to run
until the coolant temperature drops.

Before yo u check any thing in the engine compart ­
ment,
always read and heed all WARNINGS
¢ page 236, Working in the engine comport­
ment .
.,. Read the brake fluid level from the brake f luid
reservoir ¢
fig. 199, ¢ page 239, fig. 193 (ga­
soil engine) or ¢
page 240, fig. 194 (diesel en­
gine). The brake fluid level must be between
the "MIN" and "MAX" markings .
The location of the brake fl u id reservoir can be
seen in the engine compartment i llustration
q page239.
The fluid level may drop slightly after some time
due to t he automatic adjustment of the brake
pads. This is not ca use for a larm.
If t he brake fluid level falls considerably below
the "M IN" mark, the brake warning/indicator
li ght ~ (U.S. models)

ate the vehicle . The complete brake system
shou ld be thorough ly checked by an authorized
Audi dealer or other qualified fac ility and the
cause corrected .
If the brake fl uid level is too

Changing brake fluid
Have the brake fluid changed by an experienced
technician.
B rake fl uid abso rbs moistu re from the air. If the
wa ter con ten t in the brake fluid is too high, cor­
r osion in the bra ke system may res ult after ape­
riod of time. The boi ling po int of the brake fluid
will a lso decrease considerably and decrease
bra king performance.
Therefore, the bra ke fluid m ust be changed
every
two year s. Always use new brake f luid which con­
forms to Federa l Motor Vehicle Standard " FMVSS
116 DO T 4" .
The brake fluid reservoir can be diffic ult to reac h,
the refore, we recommend that you have t he
brake fluid changed by your author ized
Audi
dealer .
