The needles in the instrume nt cluster ill umi­
nate when the ign ition is swi tched o n. The di ­
als a lso illuminate when the lights are switch-

ed on. The instrument illumination dims au­
tomatica lly as the amount of light outside de­
creases. This helps to rem ind t he driver to
turn the head lights on as it becomes dar ker
outside.

The date, time of day, time and date format can
be set in the MMI. Refer to the MMI owner's
manua l for instructions.

Instruments and indicator lights
(+S °C), a snowflake symbol appears in front of
the temperature display.
If your vehicle is stationary or if you are driving at
very low speeds, the temperature displayed may
be slightly higher than the actual temperature
outside due to the heat radiating from the en­
gine.
A WARNING
Do not assume the roads are free of ice based
on the outside temperature display . Be aware
that there may be ice on roads even when the
outside temperature is around 41 °F (+S
0

and that ice can increase the risk of accidents .
@ Tips
You can change the measurement units, for
example for temperature or speed, in the
MMI.
Fuel level
The display @ q page 10, fig. 3 only works when
the ignition is switched on. When the display has reached the reserve mark, the bottom LED will
turn red and the
tj] indicator light turns on
q page 24. Th e bottom LED blinks red when
the fuel level is very low.
The on-board computer shows the range based
on the fuel level~

(D Note
Never drive until the tank is completely emp­
ty . The irregular supply of fuel that results
from that can cause engine misfires . Uncom­
busted fuel will then enter the exhaust sys­
tem. This can cause overheating and damage
to the catalytic converter.
Coolant temperature indicator
In vehicles without a coolant temperature indica­
t or, an indicator light . will turn on when the

coolant temperature is too high q page 20. Re­
fer to
q 0 .

only works when the ignition is switched
on. To prevent engine damage, please observe
the following notes about the temperature rang­
es .
Cold range
If only the LEDs at the bottom of the gauge turn
on, the engine has not reached operating tem­
perature yet. Avoid high engine speeds, full ac­
ce lerating and heavy engine loads.
Normal range
The engine has reached its operating tempera­
ture once the LEDs up to the center of the gauge
turn on under normal driving conditions. The
LEDs higher up may turn on if the engine is under
heavy load or the outside temperature is high.
T his is no cause for concern as long as the. in­
dicator light in the instrument cluster does not
turn on.
Hot range
If the LEDs in the upper area of the display and
the . indicator light in the instrument cluster
display turn on, the coolant temperature is too
high
q page 20 .
A WARNING
-Never open the hood if you can see or hear
steam or coolant escaping from the engine
compartment . This increases the risk of
burns . Wait until you no longer see or hear
steam or coolant escaping.
- The engine compartment in any vehicle can
be a dangerous area. Stop the engine and
allow it to cool before working in the engine
compartment. Always follow the informa­
tion found in¢
page 236, Working in the
engine comportment.
([) Note
-In vehicles with a boost pressure indicator*,
this indicator replaces the temperature dis­
play. To promote a long engine service life,
avoiding high engine speeds, full

acceleration and heavy engine loads during
approximately the first 15 minutes when
the engine is cold is recommended. The
amount of time until the engine is warm de­
pends on the outside temperature. Check
the engine oil temperature* if necessary
¢ page 32.
-Auxiliary headlights and other accessories in
front of the cooling-air intake impair the
cooling effect of the coolant . This increases
the risk of the engine overheating during
high outside temperatures and heavy en­
gine load.
- The front spoiler also he lps to distr ibute
cooling air correct ly wh ile driving. If the
spo iler is damaged, the cooling effect will
be impaired and the risk of the engine over ­
heating will increase. See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fa­
cility for assistance.
@ Tips
Diesel engines: due to the high efficiency of
these engines, the engine may not always
reach operating temperature in cold outside
temperatures. This is normal and not a cause
for concern.

If the central indicator light © turns on, check
the additional information in the instrument
cluster display @ and @.
In addition to the indicator lights in the display,
there are addit ional ind icators in the tachometer .
They blink or turn on to indicate functions or mal­
functions . Messages @ may also appear briefly
with some indicator lights. A warning tone
sounds at the same time.
If there is more than one malfunction, the indica ­
tor lights will turn on one after the other for a short time.
The ind icator lights and messages in the display
can be covered by other d isplays . In cases where
the indicator light @ is hidden, the central ind i­
cator light © will remain visib le until the mal­
function is corrected.

er information system

Overview
Some indicator lights turn on briefly as a funct ion
check when you sw itch the ignition on. These sys­
tems are marked with a./ in the following tab les.
If one of these ind icator lights does not turn on,
there is a malfunction in that system .
Your vehicle has either a monochrome display or
a multicolored disp lay, depending on vehicle
equipment. In a monochrome display, the indica­
tor lights @only appear in white ¢
page 13,

If the indicator light blinks and the message ap­
pears, there is not enough braking power to se­
cure the vehicle. The brakes have overheated. The
veh icle could roll away even on a small incline.

tor ligh t still turns on, turn the engine off and

The oil pressure warning is not an oil level in­
dicator. Always check the oil level regularly.
D Alternator/battery
• Alternator fault : battery is not being charg­
ed
There is a ma lfunction in the a lternator or the ve­
hicle electrical system.
Drive to an authorized A udi dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility immediate ly. Because the ve­
hicle battery is dra ining, turn off all unnecessary
electrical equ ipment such as the MMI. See your
authorized Aud i dealer or authorized Audi Serv ice
Facil ity if the battery cha rge level is too low.
(•) Low battery charge: Battery will be charged
while driving
The starting ability may be impaired .
If this message turns off after a litt le whi le, t he
battery ch a rged enough while driv ing.

Automatic climate control system controls

The dial adjusts the temperature and the blower
speed . Press the buttons to turn the functions on
or off. The LED in a button wi ll light up when the
function is switched on.

Automatic climate control system
We recommend pressing the IAUTOI button and
se tti ng the temperature to 72 °F (22 °C). The au­
tomatic climate control system automatically
maintains a temperature once it has been set.
The air temperature coming from the vents, the
b lower speed, and the a ir distribution are also
automatically adjusted. In all heating mode func­
tions except
defrost, the blower only switches to
a higher speed once the eng ine coolant has
reached a ce rtain temperature .

A WARNING
You should not use the recirculation mode for
an extended period since no fresh ai r is drawn
i n . With the air-conditioning* switched off,
the w indows can fog up, whic h increases the
risk of an accident.
IA/C l Switching the cooling mode on and off
The cooling system is turned on and off with the
IAJC I button. The air is not coo led and humidity is
not removed when cooling mode is switched off .
This can cause fog on the windows. The cooling
mode switches off automatically when there are
cold outside temperatures.
I AUTO I Switching automatic mode on and off
The automatic mode is turned on using the
IAUTOI button. AUTO mode switches off once a
button in the climate control system is pressed.
Automatic mode maintains a constant tempera­
ture inside the vehicle. Air temperature, a irflow
and air distribution are controlled automatically.
When automatic mode is active, pressing the
IAUTOI button b rief ly act ivates the "Eco"
mode*

- The seat is damp or wet.
A WARNING
Individua ls with reduced sensitivity to pain or
temperature could develop burns when using
the seat heating function. To reduce the risk
of injury, these individuals should not use
seat heat ing .
(D Note
To avoid damage to the heating elements in
the seats, do not kneel on the seats or place heavy loads on a small area of the seat.
(D Tips
- The setting for the seat heating on the driv­
er's side is ass igned to the key that is in use .
- If the front passenger 's seat heat ing is
turned on, it will not turn on again automat­
ically if more than 10 m inutes have passed
between sw itch ing the ign ition off and
switch ing it on again.
Auxiliary heater
A pp lies to vehicles: with diesel e ng in e
In cool outside temperatures, the electr ic auxi li­
ary heater helps the vehicle interior to wa rm
mo re quickly. The a uxiliary heater swi tches on
and off automatically accord ing to the vehicle
heating settings.
The "auxiliary heater " function can be sw itched
on and off in the MMI. Select: the
I MENU I button

heat er (fuel ).

T he engine preheater s lowly warms the engine
coolant using a heating element when the vehicle
is parked. For this function, the cable provided
must be connected to a 120 Volt socket that is
protected from water and t hat is grounded a nd
equipped with a GFI circu it breaker, for example
in a ga rage. The engine reaches operating tem­
perature much more quickly afte r sta rting when
t h e coolant is preheated . This reduces fuel con­
s u mption and exha ust emissions dur ing the
warm-up phase.
Preheat ing the engine can take up to 3 hours de­
pend ing on the temperature o utside.
Connecting the engine preheat er
- Only use the connector cable provided and a
suitable extension cord, if necessary .
- All cables and connectors that are used must not be damaged
~ li::,. .
-Open the cover(!).
- Plug the connector cable into the socket @.
- If necessary, plug the connector cable into the
extension cord. Only use highly durab le exten­
sion co rds that are class 12 or better and can
be properly grounded to a three-prong wall
socket with a GFI circuit breaker and that are
not longe r than 100 feet (30 meters) .
- Plug the connector cable or extension cord into
a grounded 120 Volt wall socket that is pro­
tected by a GFI circuit breaker and that is pro­
tected against rain and other moisture. Never p lug the engine preheater into a conventiona l .._

t ions to reduce the risk of injury if the airbag
deploys.
- Never hold the steer ing whee l in the

partment is heat ed by the su n's rays and the
eng ine is ho t.

an extended pe riod of time, heat builds up

Driving
_& WARNING
- Never turn off the engine before the vehicle
has come to a complete stop. The full func­
tion of the brake booster and the power
steering is not guaranteed. You must use
more force to turn or brake if. Because you
cannot steer and brake as you usually
would, this could lead to accidents and seri­
ous injuries.
- Please note that the brake booster and pow­
er steering only work when the engine is
running. When the engine off, you must use
more force to steer or brake the vehicle. Be­
cause the usual steering and brak.ing capa­
bility is not available, the risk of accidents or
injuries increases .
- Always take the vehicle key with you when
leaving the vehicle, even for a short period
of time. This applies particularly when chil­
dren remain in the vehicle . Otherwise the
children could start the engine or operate
electrical equipment such as power win­
dows.
- For safety reasons, always park the vehicle
with the selector lever in the P position.
Otherwise, there is the risk that the vehicle
could roll.
- After the engine has been switched off, the
radiator fan can continue to run for up to 10
minutes -even with the ignition switched
off. It can also switch on again after some
time if the coolant temperature rises as the result of heat buildup or if the engine com­
partment is heated by the sun's rays and the
engine is hot.
(D Note
If the engine has been under heavy load for
an extended period of time, heat builds up in
the engine compartment after the engine is
switched off- there is a risk of damaging the
engine. For this reason, let the engine run for
at idle for approximately two minutes before
shutting it off.

Starting the engine if there is a
malfunction
Applies to vehicles: with convenience key
It may not be possible to start the engine under
certain circumstances, for example if the battery
in the vehicle key is drained, if interference is af­
fected the key or if there is a system malfunc­
tion.

caused by the system overheating . Let the vehi­
cle's electric drive system cool down for some
time .

thor ized A udi Se rvice Facility immed iate ly to have
the ma lf u nction co rrected.
If the indicator lig ht stays on, contact an author­

ty .
Bil Drive system : sys tem fault! Pleas e contact
work shop
There is a malfunction in the plug-in hybrid sys ­
tem. Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thor ized Audi Service Facility immediate ly to have
the ma lfunction corrected .

There is a mal func tion in the plug -in hybrid sys­
tem . Do not open the engine compartment lid .

The outside temperature is too low. The vehicle
can no longer start at temperat ures below -18 °F
