Odometer/trip odometer
The display of distance driven is shown in kilo­
meters "km" or in miles "mi".
- USA mode ls - Miles
- Canada models -Kilometers
The units of measure (kilometers/miles) can
be changed in the radio or MMI*. You can
learn more about this in the MMI manual or in
the radio user's manual.
The odometer @ shows the total number of
kilometers or miles that have been driven on
the vehicle . T
he trip odometer @shows the distance driv­
en since it was last reset. It can be used to
measure short distances. The last d igit shows
distances of 100 meters or 1/10 of a mile.
T he trip odometer can be reset to zero by
pressing the reset button

Malfunction message
If there is a malfunct ion somewhere in the in­
strument cluster,
DEF will appear in the trip
odometer and w ill stay on. Contact your au­
thorized Audi dea ler to have the problem cor ­
rected.
Immobilizer
When the ignition is switched on, the data on
the ignition key are scanned automat ica lly.
If an unauthor ized key was used, SAFE is dis­
played permanently in the odometer display
field . The vehicle cannot be opera ted
r::!;>p age33 .
(D Tips
- When you switch off the ignition or open
the driver door, the time, date, odome­
ter and temperature are displayed for an
additional
30 seconds .
- Yo u can also call up the display with the
!SET ! button r::!;> page 11 while the igni­
tion is switched off .
Fuel gauge
The fuel gauge works only when the ignition is
on.

The red en gine oil pressure warning symbol
requires immediate service or repair . Driving
with a low-oil -pressure indication is likely to
inflict severe damag e to the engine.

- The yellow oil level warning indication
Ill requires oil refill or workshop serv­
ice without delay . Do not wait until the
red oil pressure warning. starts to
flash before you respond to the low oil level warning
Ill. By then, your engine
may already have suffered serious dam­
age.

Introduction
The Driver information display inside the in­
strument cluster provides you, the driver,
with important information.

Center display
With the ignition on, the display in the Dr iver
I nformation System shows the following in­
formation:
- CD* inserted or Radio* station set
- Outside temperature*: At temperatures be-
low 41 °F (+S °C), a snowflake symbol ap­
pears in front of the temperature display

-Warning if one of the doors, front lid or en-
gine compartment lid is not closed.

Some functions and vehicle components are
scanned for their operating status when you
switch the ignition on and whi le you are driv­
ing . Malfunctions or required service proce­
dures are signaled audibly and indicated by
red and yellow illuminated symbols and re­
minders in the d isplay.
A WARNING
--- Never rely exclusively on the outside
temperature display to determine if a
road surface is icy or not . Keep in mind
that road surfaces , espec ially br idges
and overpasses, could be ice covered and
slippery even at an outside temperature
above 41 °F (+S °C).
- Always remember,
even if the "snow­
flake" symbol (ice warning) does not ap­
pear in the disp lay, black ice cou ld be on
the road.
- Always reduce your speed and drive with
specia l care in cold weather conditions
when the chance of encountering icy
road surfaces increases.
¢j) Tips
If the vehicle is stationary, or if you are
driving at a very low speed, the tempera­
ture shown in the display might be slightly
higher than the actual outside tempera­
ture. This i.s caused by the heat being radi­
ated from the engine .

Single-tr ip m emory (Trip computer 1 )
The single-trip memory stores the trip infor­
mat ion from the time the ignition is turned o n
until it is turned off. If the trip is continued
w ithin 2 hours from the t ime the ignition was
turned off, the new data will be included in
the calcu lation of the current trip i nfo rma­
tion .
If the t rip is inte rrupted fo r more than 2
hours the memory is reset automati ca lly.
Total -trip memory (Trip computer 2)
Unlike the sing le-trip memory, the tota l- tr ip
memory is not reset automatically . Th is per­
mits you to evaluate your d riving data for the
enti re pe riod be tween manual rese ts.

The trip computer will not operate un less the

the function that was in use when you last

puter (trip comp uter 1, 2 and the efficiency
program*), information abo ut other systems
can a lso be shown in the disp lay. To switch the
display between the different information,

Resett ing values to zero
.. Select a value in the desired tr ip computer
or in the eff iciency program*.

least one second . All values in the selected

are reset to zero.
If the data in tr ip computer 1 are deleted,
then the values in the eff iciency program* w ill
also be reset .
With some vehicle eq uipment levels, the val­
ues for the sing le trip or total trip memory
can a lso be reset in the Infotai nment system
¢ page 26.
@ Tips
All stored va lues w ill be lost if the veh icle
battery is disconnected.

vides children the opportunity to start the engine and/or act ivate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power w indows etc . Un­
supervised operation of any veh icle sys­
tem by ch ildren can res ult in serious in­
Jury.
- Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
plete stop. Otherwise the steering col­
um n loc k co uld suddenly e ngage -caus­
ing the risk of an accident.
@ Tips
- The operation of the remote contro l key
c a n be tempo rarily disrupted by in terfer­
ence from tran smi tters in t he v ici nity of
the veh icle work ing in the same frequen­
cy ra nge (e.g . a ce ll phone, radio equip­
ment).
- Fo r security reasons, replacement keys
are on ly available from author ized Audi
dealer.

If the vehicle is unlocked and no doo r, the rear
lid or the hood is opened within 60 seconds,
the vehicle locks itself again automat ically.
This feature prevents the vehicle from being
accidentally left unlocked over a long period
of time .
It depends on the settings in the radio or
MM!* whether the entire vehicle is unlocked
or only certain doors

On vehicles with automatic transmission, the
selector lever must be in the P position, other­
wise the vehicle cannot be locked.

- In order to make sure the locking func­
tion is work ing, you should always keep
your eye on the vehicle to make sure it is
properly locked .
- Do not use the remote control if you are
inside the car, otherw ise you may unin­
tentionally lock the vehicle, and then you
would set off the anti-theft alarm when
you try to start the eng ine or open a
door . In case this happens anyhow, push
the unlock button@ .
- Use the pan ic function on ly if yo u are in
an emergency s ituation .

The vehicle can be locked and unlocked at any
door. The remote control key cannot be more
than 1.5 m away from the door handle. It
makes no difference whether the master key
is in your jacket pocket or i n your brief case.
If you grip the door handle while locking, this
can adversely affect the locking funct ion.
I t is not possible to re-open the door for a
brief period direct ly after closing it. This al ­
l ows you to ensure that the doors are properly
locked.

MMI* whether the entire vehicle is unlocked
or one of the doors

If your vehicle has been standing for an ex­
tended per iod, please note the following:
- The proximity sensors are deactivated af-
ter a few days to save power. You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unlock the vehicle and a second t ime to
open the vehicle .
- To prevent the battery from being d is­
charged and to preserve your vehicle's
ability to start for as long as possib le,
the energy management system gradu­
ally switches off u nne cessary conven­
ience func tions.

If you lock the vehicle using the power loc king
switch, p lease note the following:
- If a door is open, the veh icle cannot be
loc ked u sing the power loc king system
sw itch.

-You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the outside (increased security, for ex­
amp le when yo u are stopped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power loc king switc h illu­
minate when a ll the doors are closed and
l ocked.
- Front doors: you can un lock and open the
doors from the ins ide by p ulling on the door
hand le.
- Rea r doors: p ull the door handle once to re­
lease the lock. Pull the hand le again to open
the door.
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat­
ed, the doors automatically un lock.
A WARNING
- The power locking sw itch works w ith the
ignition off and automatically locks the
entire vehicle when it is actua ted .
- On a vehicle locked from the outs ide the
power locking system switch is inopera­
t ive.
- Locked doors make it more diffic ult for
eme rg ency workers to get into th e vehi ­
cle, w hich puts lives at risk . Do not leave
anyone behi nd in the ve hicle, espe cially
ch ildren.

Always take the key with you when you
leave the ve hicle. The key can disarm the
electronic engine immobilizer and perm it
an unauthor ized person to start the engine
and enable ope rat ion of t he vehicle sys­
t ems such as power window or power sun­
roof leading to ser ious personal injury.

- The vehicle cannot be started if an unau­
thorized key is used . T he vehi cle may not
star t if another radio device such as a key
for another vehicle or a transponder is

-After closing the rear lid, always p ull up
on it to make sure that it is properly
closed. Otherwise it could open suddenly
when the vehicle is moving.
- To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas
from being drawn into the vehicle, al­
ways keep the rear lid closed whi le driv­
ing. Never transport objects larger than
those which fit complete ly into the lug­
gage a rea, because then the rear lid can­
not be f ully closed.
- N ever leave your vehicle unattended es­
pecia lly with the rear lid left open.
A
child cou ld craw l in to the car thro ugh the
luggage compartment and pull the lid
shut, becoming trapped and unable to
get out. To reduce the risk of personal in­
jury, never let children play in or around
your veh icle. Always keep the rear lid as
well as the ve hicle doors closed when not
in use .
- Always ensure that no one is within
range of the rear lid when it is moving, in
particular close to the hinges -fingers or
hands can be pinched.

When the vehicle is locked, the rear lid can be opened separately by pressing the but­
ton
~ on the master key. When you close
the rea r lid aga in, it locks automat ica lly.

Saving the opening angle of the rear lid
• Bring the luggage compartment lid into the
desired open position. The position can only
be stored when the lid is above a certain
height.
• Press and hold the

least four seconds until the lights blink to
store the desired open position . •
To set a highe r open position, wait at least
five seconds and then carefully press the
luggage compartment lid upward.
• Press and hold the¢

at least four seconds and this will store the
new open position .
The settings in the radio or MMI* determine if
the rear lid can be opened using the handle
¢page 37.
Opening will be stopped immediately when:
- You press the
cs button on the remote con-
trol maste r key for at least one second, or
- You press the
cs button in the rear lid , or
- You push the handle in the rear lid, or
- You pull the
cs button in the driver's door,
or
- When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it d ifficult for the lid to move .
If you press one of the buttons
cs now, the
rear lid will ei ther open or close, depending on
its ang le .
If you pull lightly on its handle, the rear lid
will close .
Closing will be stopped immed iately when :
- You press the
cs button in the rear lid , or
- You push the handle in the rear lid, or
- You release the
cs button on the driver's
door, or
- When something blocks the rear lid or
makes it difficult for the lid to move .
If you press one of the buttons
cs now, the
rear lid will either close or open, depending on
its angle.
If you pull lightly on its handle, the rear lid
will close .
You can manually stop the automatic open­
ing/closing of the luggage compartment lid.
T he automatic closing process begins if you
push down on the rear lid.
