inside an unatte nded vehicle, v is ible or not.
Even a properly locked vehicle cannot pro­
v ide the security of a safe.
- If the LED in the upper edge of the driver's
door panel comes on for about 30 seconds
after t he vehicle is locked, there is a mal­
funct ion in the power lock ing or the anti­
theft warning system . Have the malf unct io n
cor rected by an authorized Audi dealership
or q ualified repair facility.

Number of keys
You can chec k the number of assigned keys to
your vehicle

sure yo u have received all of the keys when you
purchase a used vehicle .
Data in the master key
During driving, serv ice and maintenance-re levan t
da ta is cont inuo usly stored on your master key.
You r A udi service adviser can read out this data
and te ll yo u about the work you r vehicle needs.
This applies also to veh icles with convenience
key* .
Personal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own" maste r
k ey . W hen the ignit ion is turned off or when the
vehicle is loc ked, personal conven ience settings
for the following systems are stored and as­
signed to the remote master key.
- Climate control
- Power locking system
- Sea t memory *
- Park ing system*
-Adaptive cr uise control*
- Side assist*
- Drive select*
The stored settings are a utomat ica lly rec alled
when you unlock t he vehicle, when yo u ope n the
doo rs or when yo u turn on the ignition.
A WARNING
- Do not leave you r vehicle unattended with
the key in the ignition lock. Entry by una u­
thor ized persons could endanger you or re­
sult i n theft o r damage the vehicle .
- Do not leave childre n unattended i n the ve­
hicle, especially with access to vehicle keys .
Ungua rded access to the keys provides chil­
dren t he oppor tunity to start the engine
an d/or activa te ve hicl e sys tems s uch as the
powe r windows etc. Unsupervised ope ration
of any vehicle system by children c an res ult
in ser ious injury.

-Do not remove the key from the ignition
lock until the vehicle has come to a com­
plete stop . Otherwise the steer ing column
lock could suddenly engage -causing the
risk of an accident .

-The operation of the remote control key can
be temporarily d isrupted by interference
from transmitters in the vicinity of the vehi­
cle work ing in the same frequency range
(e .g. a cell phone, radio equipment).

tem, it may happen that you cannot remove the
ignition key.

prevents the vehicle from being accidentally left

On vehicles with automatic transmission, these­
lector lever must be in the P pos ition, otherwise
the vehicle cannot be locked.

- In order to make sure the locking function is
work ing, you should always keep your eye
on the vehicle to make sure it is properly
locked .
- Do not use the remote control if you are in­
side the car, otherwise you may uninten­
t ionally lock the vehicle, and then you would
set off the anti-theft a larm when you t ry to
sta rt the eng ine or open a door. I n case this
happens anyhow, push the un lock button@.
- Use the pan ic function on ly if you a re in an
emerge ncy sit uat io n.

Locking and unlocking with convenience

The doors and the rear lid con be unlocked and
locked without operating the master key .

The vehicle can be locked and un locked at any
door . The remote control key cannot be more
than 1.5 m away from the door handle. It makes
no difference whether the master key is in your
jacket pocket or in your brief case .
If you grip the door handle while locking, this can
adversely affect the locking function.
It is not possible to re-open the door for a b rief
period directly after closing it. This allows you to
ensure that the doors are properly locked.

whether the entire vehicle is unlocked or one of
the doors

If your vehicle has been standing for an ex ­
tended period, please note the following:
- The proximity sensors are deactivated after
a few days to save power. You then have to
pull on the door handle once to unlock the
vehicle and a second time to open the vehi­
cle.
- To p revent the battery from being dis­
charged and to preserve your vehicle's abili­
ty to start for as long as possible, the ener­
gy management system gradua lly switches
off unnecessary convenience functions. It is
possible that you will not be ab le to unlock
your vehicle using these convenience func­
tions .

If you lock the veh icle using the power lock ing
switch , please note the following:
- If a door is open, the veh icle cannot be locked
using the power locking system switch .
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid from
the
outside (increased security, for example
when you are stopped at a red light).
- The diodes in the power locking switch illumi­
nate when a ll the doors are closed and locked .
- Front doors : you can unlock and open the doors
from the inside by pulling on the door handle.
- Rear doors: pull the door handle
once to re­
lease the lock. Pull the handle
again to open
the door .
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activated,
the doors automat ically unlock .
A WARNING ,-
-The power locking switch works with the ig-
n ition off and automatically locks the entire
vehicle when it is actuated.
- On a vehicle locked from the ou tside the
power locking system switch is ino perative.
- Locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get in to the vehicle,
which puts lives at ris k . Do not leave anyone
behind in the vehicle, especially children. ""

the driver's door . In vehicles with a conven ience

If you press the Im button twice, the en­
ti re vehicle will un lock. If you press the

ton, the entire vehicle will always lock.

Once the front passenger's door/rear doors* have been closed, you cannot open them again from
the outside. The door can be opened from the in­
side by pulling the door handle. If the child safe­
ty lock in a rear door* is activated, you must f irst
pull the door handle on the inside . Then you can
open the door from the outside .

Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer prevents your vehicle from being
started by unauthorized persons .
Inside the key there is a computer chip . This chip
automatically activates/deact ivates the electron­
i c immob ilizer.
Applies to vehicles with ignition lock :
The electronic immobilizer deactivates automati­
cally when you insert the remote control key into
the ignition lock .
It activates again automatically
when you remove the remote control key from
the ignition lock .
Applies to vehicles with convenience key:
If the remote control key is located inside the ve­
h icle and you press the
I START ENGINE STOPI
button, the electronic immobilizer deactivates
automatically . If you switch the ignition off and
remove the remote control key from the vehicle,
the electronic immobi lizer act ivates again auto­
matica lly.

Always take the key with you when you leave
the vehicle . The key can d isarm the electronic
engine immobilizer and permit an unauthor­
iz ed person to start the engine and enable op­
e ration of the vehicle systems such as power
window or power s unroof leading to serio us
personal injury .
{t) Tips
-The vehicle cannot be started if an unau­
thorized key is used. The vehicle may not
start if another radio device such as a key
for another vehicle or a transponder is lo­
cated on the key ring.

-After closing the rear lid, always pull up on
it to make sure that it is properly closed .

- To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas from
being drawn into the vehicle, always keep
the rear lid closed while driving . Never
transport objects larger than those which fit
comple tely into t he luggage area, because
then the rear lid cannot be fully closed.
- Never leave yo ur vehicle unatte nded espe­
c ia lly with the rea r lid left open . A chi ld
c ould cra wl into the car thro ugh the luggage
compartment and pull the lid shut, becom ­
ing trapped and unable to get out. To re­
duce the r isk of persona l injury, never let
children p lay in or around your veh icle . Al­
ways keep the rear lid as well as the vehicle
doors closed when not in use.
- Always ensure that no one is within range of
th e rear lid when it is moving, in particular
close to the hinges -fingers or hands can be
pinched .

When the vehicle is locked, the rear lid can be
opened separately by pressing the button

If you press one of the buttons~ now, the rear
lid will either open or close, depending on its an­
gle.
If yo u pull light ly on its handle, the rear lid will
close.

- You release the~ button on the driver's door,

You can manually stop the a utomat ic opening/
closing of the luggage compartment lid. The au­
tomatic closing process begins if you push down
on the rear lid.
A WARNING
- Never close the rear lid inattentively or with­
out checking first . Although the closing

force of the rear lid is limited, you can still
seriously injure yourself or others.
- Always ensure that no one is within range of
the rear lid when it is moving, in particu lar
close to the hinges and the upper and lower
edges - fingers or hands can be pinched.
- To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas from
be ing drawn into the vehicle, a lways keep
the rear lid closed while dr iving. Never
transport objects larger than those which fit
comp letely into the luggage area, because
then the rear lid cannot be fully closed.
- Never leave your veh icle unattended espe­
cially with the rear lid left open. A child
could crawl into the car through the luggage
compartment and pull the lid shut, becom­
ing trapped and unab le to get out. To re­
duce the risk of personal in jury, never let
children play in or around your vehicle . Al­
ways keep the rear lid as we ll as the veh icle
doors closed when not in use .
- If there is a luggage rack or bicycle rack
mounted on the rear lid, it may not be able
to open comp letely or an opened rear lid
may close by itself because of the added
weight . So the open rear lid must be sup­
ported or the we ight must be removed from
the l uggage rac k first.
(!) Tips
- When the vehicle is locked, the rear lid can
be unlocked separately by pressing the but­
ton~ on the master key . When the rear lid
is closed again, it locks automatically.
- The following applies to vehicles equ ipped
w ith the convenience key* feature : if the re­
mote contro l key is left in the luggage com­
partment , luggage compartment will auto­
matically unlock itse lf after you lock the ve ­
hicle. This prevents you from unintentiona l­
ly locking your key in the luggage compart­
ment.
- If the vehicle battery charge drops below a
certain level, you can still open or close the
rear lid manually, however, you will need to
app ly more force to close it.

Programming the button : Part 1 with the

1. Switch the ignition on.
2. Press and ho ld both outer b uttons in the roof
headliner ~
page 45, fig. 40 until the LED @
turns off completely (after about 20 sec­
onds). This procedure clears the s tandard co­
des that were set at the factory and does
not
need to be repeated again to program the
other buttons .
3. Br iefly p ress the b utton o n the roof headliner
that you wou ld like to program .
4. Wa it until the LED @ begins to blink quickly .
Programming mode is active for 5 minutes .
5. Move in front of yo ur vehicle while holding
the original remote control for the system
t hat would like to program to a button in the
roof headliner.

6. Ho ld the remote control up to the radiator
grille on your vehicle¢

7. Press and hold the remote control until the
turn signals on your vehicle blink . This may
take up to 30 seconds.

If the emergency flashers blink th ree t imes,
the programming was suc cessful.
If th e
emergency flashers only b lin k one t ime , the
5 minute time limit for t he p rogramming has
ended or the programm ing was not success­
fu l. Repeat the programming from the third
step, or try changing the distance to the radi­
ator grille.

even though the programming was success­
ful , the system may use a ro lling code in­
s tead of a fixed code .

be programmed according to the instruct ions
above . Begin with the third s tep .
Era sing button prog ramm ing
The prog rammed buttons cannot be erased indi­
vidually . They must a ll be erased tog ether . Re­
program the buttons if necessary .
.. Switch the ignit io n on.
.. Press and hold both outer bu ttons in the roof
headliner until the LED @turns off comp lete ly
( after about 20 seconds).
Reprogramm ing the buttons
.. Switch the ignit io n on .
.. To reprogram an individual button, press and
hold the button unti l the LED @starts to flash
quickly (after about 10 seconds) . Release the
button immed iately. Programming mode is ac­
tive for 5 m inu tes.
.. Continue with the fifth step.
@ Tips
- Programming using the buttons in the roof
headliner is not possible with all Infotain­
ment systems . If this is the case, program
the buttons as descr ibed in version A
¢ page 45 .
- The required distance between the hand
transm itte r and the Homelink module in
the radiator grille~
fig. 41 depends o n the
system that you are prog ramming.
- Depending on the mode l of the system, you
may need to release the b utton o n the re­
mote contro l dur ing programm ing and
press it again. Hold each position yo u try for
a t least 15 seconds before trying another
posit ion . Keep the turn s ignals on your vehi­
cle in view when doing this .
