- Ligh t bul bs are under pressu re and can ex­
plode when bulbs are replaced, which in ­
creases the risk of injury.
- Wi th H ID headlights (xenon headlights), the
high -voltage component must be handled
correctly. Otherwise, there is a risk of fata l
injury.

The light/rain sensor is malfunctioning.
The low beams remain switched on at a ll times
for safety reasons when the light switch is in the
AUTO position. However, you can continue to
turn the lights on and off using the light switch.
You can still contro l all functions that a re inde­
pendent of the rain sensor through the wind ­
shield wiper leve r.
Drive to an au thori zed Audi dealer or authori zed
Audi Service Facility immed iately to have the
malfunction corrected.

The transmission temperature has increased sig­
nificant ly due to the sporty driv ing manner. Drive
in a less sporty manner until the temperature re­
turns to the normal range and the indicator light
sw itches of .
A WARNING
Contact an authorized Audi dealer or author­
ized Aud i Serv ice Facility if the all whee l dr ive/
sport diffe rential is fau lty o r malfunctioning.
The repair must be performed by trained per­
sonnel using the correct oil in order to ensure
safety.
¢¢ Turn signals
If the . or .l indicator light b links, a turn s ig ­
na l is turned on. If bot h indicator lig hts are blink­
ing, the emergency flashers are on.
If an indicato r light blinks twice as fast as usua l,
a t urn signa l bulb has failed. Caref ully dr ive to an
authorized Audi dealer or author ized Audi Service
Facility immediately to have the malfunction cor­
rected.

Monitoring the
Advanced Airbag System
Airbag monitoring indicator light
Two separate indicators monitor the fun ction of
the A dvanced Airbag System : the
El ligh t and
t he
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF ~ ; ON @ Light.
The Advanced Airbag System as we ll as the side
a ir bags and side c urta in air bags with ejec tion
m it iga tion fea tures ( in cludi ng the e lectro nic con­
tro l uni t, sensors and sys tem wiring) are a ll
monitored co nti nu ously to ma ke sure that they
are funct ioning properly whenever the ignition is
on. Every t ime you turn on the ignition, the air ­
bag system ind icator
light E,lwill come on for a
few seconds (function check).
The system must be inspected when the
indicato r light
E,I:
- does not come on when the ignit ion is switched
on
- does not go out a few seconds after you have
switched on the ign ition, o r
- comes on w hile driving
If an airbag sys tem malf unct ion is de te cted, the
indicator light w ill come on to serve as a co nstant
remi nder to have the system inspected immedi­
ately .
If a mal function occurs that turns the front air­
bag on the passenger side off, the
PASSENGER
AIR BAG
OFF ~. lig ht w ill come o n an d stay on
whenever the ignit ion is on.
A WARNING
An airbag system that is not funct io ning prop­
erly cannot provide supplemental p rotection
in a frontal crash .

T he PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF ~; ON@ light is
located in t he

The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF ~; light will come
o n and stay on to tell you w hen t he fro nt Ad­
van ced Air bag o n the p assenge r side has been
tu rned
off by t he e lec tron ic control unit . If the
bulb fo r the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF ~; ON@
light b urns o ut, t he a irbag ind icator light El w ill
come on to signal a ma lfunction in the Advanced
Airbag System. Altho ugh the burned-out b ulb
will not change the way the front passenger's
frontal a irbag works , it w ill no longer be possible
to use the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF ~; ON@
ligh t to make s ure that the airbag on/off s tatus is
c or rec t fo r th e o ccu pan t on the front passenge r
sea t. Have the airb ag system inspec ted immedi­
ate ly by yo ur au thorized A udi d ealer .
The PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF~; ON@ light
will blink for about S seconds when:
- the capacit ive passenger detection system,
which switc hes the front sea t passe nger's fron ­
tal Advanced Airbag o n and off, detects a
change in the st atus of the front pa sse nger
se at.
As soon as the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF ~; ON
@ light s tops blin kin g, a lways make sure that the
air bag st atus (on o r off) as shown by the ligh t is
prope r for the age, size and e lec trica l capacitance
of t he perso n occ up ying the front passenger
seat . Always ma ke sure that the safety be lt fo r
t h e front passenger seat is proper ly fastened .

foot rest (left-hand drive

behind the cover (right-hand drive vehicle) @.
Additional fuses are located on the front side of
the cockpit (driver's
side) ©¢ fig. 290 and under
the left cover in the luggage compartment @.
.. Switch the ignition and all electrical equipment
off.
"Check the following table to see wh ich fuse be·
longs to the equipment.
" Remove the screwdriver and the reversible Torx
bit from the vehicle tool
kit ¢ page 360 .
.. Remove the foot rest or the corresponding cov­
er.
" Remove the colored plastic clip from the fuse
panel, if
necessary ¢ page 370, fig . 291. You
can dispose of the plast ic clip .
.. Remove the clamp from the rear side of the
cover @.
" Remove the fuse using the clamp .
" Replace the blown fuse only with an identical
new one .
" Reattach the footrest or the cover .

A WARNING
Do not repair fuses and never replace a blown
fuse with one that has a higher amp rating.
This can cause damage to the electrical sys­
tem and increases the risk of fire.

If a new fuse burns out again shortly after you
have installed it, have the electrical system
checked as soon as possible by an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facili­
ty .

Bulbs
Replacing light bulbs
For your safety, we recommend that you have
your authorized Audi dealer replace any bulbs for
you.
It is becoming increasingly more and more diffi­
cult to replace vehicle light bulbs since in many
cases, other parts of the car must first be re­ moved before you are able to get to the bulb.
This applies especially to the light bulbs in the
front of your car which you can only reach
through the engine compartment.
Sheet metal and bulb holders can have sharp
edges that can cause serious cuts, parts must be
correctly taken apart and then properly put back
together to help prevent breakage of parts and
l ong term damage from water that can enter
housings that have not been properly resealed.
For your safety, we recommend that you have
your author ized Audi dealer replace any bulbs for
you, s ince your dealer has the proper tools, the
correct bulbs and the expert ise.
Fuses and bulbs
Gas discharge lamps (Xenon lights) :
Due to the high e lectr ical voltage, have the bulbs
replaced by a qualified technician. Headlights
with Xenon light are identified by the high volt­
age sticker .
LED headlights*
LED headlights require no maintenance. Please
contact your authorized Audi dealer if a bulb
needs to be replaced .
.&, WARNING
Changing Xenon lamps without the necessary
equipment can cause serious personal injury.
- Bulbs are pressurized and can explode when
be ing changed. Potential risk of injury!
- On veh icles equipped with gas discharge
bu lbs (Xenon light) life-threatening injuries
can resu lt from improper handling of the
h ig h-vo ltage portions of such lamps!
- Only your authorized Audi dealer or quali­
fied workshop should change the bulbs in
gas discharge lamps. There are parts with
sharp edges on the openings and on the
bulb holders that can cause serious cuts. If
you are uncertain about what to do, have the work performed by an authorized Audi
dealer or qualified workshop. Ser ious per­
sonal injury may result from improperly per­
formed work.
