• Each tire, including the spare, should be checked monthly when
cold and inflated to the inflation pressure recommended by the
vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pres­ sure label. (I f your vehicle has tires of a different size than the size
indicated on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label, you
should determine the proper tire inflation pressure for those
tires.) •
TPMS malfunction indicator
Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMS malfunction indi ­
cator to indicate when the system is not operating properly . The
TPMS malfunction indicator is combined with the low t ire pressure
telltale. When the system detects a ma lfunction, the te lltale wi ll
flash for approximately one minute and then remain continuously il luminated . T his sequence will continue upon subsequent vehicle
starts up as long as the malfunction exists.
When the malfunction indicator is illuminated, the system may not be ab le to detect or signa l low tire pressure as intended.
TPMS ma lfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the
installation of replacement or alternate tires or wheels on the
veh ic le that prevent the TPMS from functioning proper ly . Always
check the TPMS malfunction telltale after replacing one or more
tires or whee ls on your ve hicle to ensure t hat the replacement or
a lternate tires and wheels a llow the TPMS to continue to function
proper ly .•
Introduction
The tire pressure monitoring system monitors air pressure
in all four road wheels while the vehicle is moving .
As soon as the tire pressure monitoring system senses a significant
loss of air pressure in one or severa l tires, text messages and yellow
symbo ls appear in the instrument cluster display to a lert the driver .

The warning light I also i lluminates in the case of a system
malfunction.
Be aware that t ire pressure is also dependent on the temperature of
the tire . For every 18 °F (10 °C) increase in tire temperature, tire pres ­
sure increases by about 1 .5 psi (0 .1 bar). The tire warms up while the
vehicle is moving and tire pressure rises . So you should adjust tire
pressure on ly when they are
cold, when the tempera ture of the tires
is roughly the same as the ambient air temperature.
I n order to keep the tire pressure monitoring system properly cali ­
brated, tire pressure on all four tires should be checked at regular
intervals, adjusted if necessary and saved in the proper setting
(recommended pressure) ~
page 45.
The tire pressure is shown on the label located either on the driver's
s ide 8 -pi llar (visible when the door is open) or inside the fue l filler
flap .

Driving w ith under -inflated tires reduces fuel efficiency and tire
tread life.

• Each tire, incl udin g the sp are, should be checked monthly when
cold and set to the recommended inflation pressure as specified on
the tire pressure label=>
page 317.
• The factory supplied spare whee l is equipped with a sensor for
the tire pressure monitoring system. As long as the spare whee l it
not mounted, the tire pressure of this tire will not be monitored.
• The tire pressure monitoring system he lps the driver to keep an
eye on t ire pressures. But the driver stil l has the responsibility for
maintaining the correct tire pressure.
• Tire pressure must only be adjusted when the temperature of the
tires is about the same as ambient air temperature .
• When tires are replaced, the sensors and valves shou ld not be
detached or exchanged. Only the valve core needs to be rep laced
and, i f necessary, the valve and the wheel electronics replaced.
• If you should put different wheels and tires on your vehicle (e.g.
winter wheels and tires), you must be certain that the wheels and
tires are compatible with the tire p ressure monitoring system.
Otherwise the system w ill register a ma lfunction and a fault
message will be displayed . For more information, contact your Audi
dea ler.
• Adjust the tire pressure and store the pressure in the tire pres­
sure monitor ing system to the load you are carry ing. •
Significant loss of air pressure ft)
The yellow symbol appears in the event of a significant
loss of air pressure .

Storing tire pressures
Correct storage of specified pressure is the basic require ­
ment for reliable tire pressure monitoring.

In order for the tire pressure monitoring system to operate
appropriately, you have to re -save the specified pressures in
the MMI whenever you adjust tire pressures, for example
when the load condition of your vehic le changes. Proceed
as follows :

mation on the label located either on the driver's side 8-
pillar (visible when the door is open) or inside the fuel

Following each intentional change in specified pressures , tire pres­
sures must be resaved.
After the pressures are saved , the tire pressure monitoring system
measures the current tire pressures and saves them as the new
specified pressures.

• The tire pressure is shown on the tire pressure label. On USA
vehicles, the tire pressure labe l is located on the driver's side B ­
pillar. On Canada vehicles, the tire pressure label is located either on
the driver's side B -pillar or inside the fuel filler f lap . T he tire pressure
label lists the recommended cold tire inflation pressures for the
vehicle at its maximum capacity weight and the tires that were on
your vehicle at the time it was manufactured. For recommended tire pressures for normal load conditions, please see chapter
=> page 317. .,.

• The tire pressure monitoring system helps the driver to keep an
eye on tire pressures. But the driver stil l has the responsibility for
maintaining the correct tire pressure .•
Wheel change
If a wheel is changed, the wheels that were exchanged
have to be re-programmed.
- Turn on the ignit ion.
- Pressthe!CARlfunction button.
- Select
Systems in the CAR menu.

Select Initialize wheel s.
Programming is necessary:
• after the tires have been rotated on the vehicle, or the spare tire
is used,
• if tires with new wheel sensors are used.
A ll pressure warning and system malfunction indicators in the
display will be canceled.
If a wheel change has been made, it is necessary to complete the
Initi alize w heel s function . After you have selected the function, the
new wheels are programmed and the actual pressures are stored.
This learning phase can take up to 20 minutes driving time.
During the learning process the tire pressure monitoring system is
not avai lable .•

A malfunction can h ave various causes.

If the warning light in the instrument cluster flashes for approxi­
mately one minute and then remains continuously il luminated and
additionally the
JIS => fig . 28 symbol appears in the display , the
tire pressure monitoring system is not available. This can have
various causes.
• If the message appears at the end of the learning process, the
system cannot recognize the wheels installed on the vehicle. This
can be because one or more wheels without a whee l sensor were
insta lled .
• A wheel sensor or other component may have failed .
• During initialization the system has detected more than 4 whee ls
on the vehicle, for examp le while driving next to another car with a
tire pressure monitoring system .
• A wheel change was made but the Initialize wheel s function
=> page 46was not activated.
• Audi replacement parts were not used .
• I f snow chains are being used , system function can be compro ­
m ised due to the shielding properties of the cha ins .
• T he tire pressure monitoring system may not be available
because of a radio ma lfunction.

Ti re pressure ge nerally refe rs to the am ount of air in a tire tha t it
needs it to do its job and safely carry the combined load of the entire
veh icle and i ts contents. Tire pressu re is measured in kilopascals
(kPa ), the internationa l measuring uni t and in pounds per square
i nc h (PSI) . Tir e p ressu re is based in par t on the vehic le's design and
load l im it - the g reatest amoun t of wei ght that the vehic le ca n carry
safe ly and the tire size . The proper tire pressure is frequently
re ferr ed to as the "recommended cold t ire i nflation pressu re ." Air i n
the tires expands when the tire heats up because of internal friction
whe n it flexes i n use . The tire pres sure is h ig her whe n the tire has
wa rmed up than when it is "co ld." It is the inflation pressure in a
"c old" tire t hat co unts. The ref ore, y ou sho uld neve r let air out of a
warm tire to match "co ld tire inflation pressure" recommendations .

things you can do to help avoid sudden tire failure. Underinflated
t ires are a major cause of s udden tir e fail ure . K eeping tires at the
ri ght press ure is also impor tant for sa fe and r esponsive v ehicle
han dling, trac tion, b raki ng a nd l oad carryi ng .
Tire pressures are
particularly important when the vehicle is being driven at higher
speeds , and then especially when heavily loaded even within the
permissible load -carrying capacities approved for your vehicle.
T he recommended tire pressures for your Audi depend on the kind
of tires on your vehicle a nd the n umber of passengers an d/o r
amount of luggage you w ill be transporting.
On USA vehic les, the tire pressure label is located on the driver's
s id e B- pilla r. On Cana da v ehic les, the tire pressu re labe l is loca ted
either on the driver's side 8 -pillar or inside the fuel filler flap. The tire
pre ssure label lists the rec omm ended cold tire i nflatio n pre ssures _,,,

for the vehicle at its maximum capacity weight and tires that were
on your vehic le at the time it was manufactured.

Bear in mind that the tire pressure monitoring system can only
monitor the tire pressures you have stored. The system does not
recognize the load condition of your vehic le.
The effectiveness of the tire pressure monitoring system will be impaired if you store normal load pressures but then operate the
vehic le at its maximum load=>&. See the
illustration=>
page 317, fig. 240 for the location of the label
either on driver's side B -p illar or inside the fuel fi ller flap (color of
the actual label and exact location on the vehicle will vary slight ly).
Note that the fol lowing tab le is accurate at the time of going to
press and is subject to change . In the event of discrepanc ies, the tire
pressure label (on USA vehicles, the tire pressure label is located on
the dr iver's side B-pi llar; on Canada vehicles, the tire pressure labe l
is located either on the driver's side B-pillar or inside the fue l fi ller
fl ap) always takes precedence.
T he table below lists the recommended cold tire inflation pressures
for the Audi model covered by your Owner's Literature at the
vehic le's capacity weight and the tire sizes installed on the respec ­
tive models as origina l equipment, or as a factory option.

The correct t ire pressure for the
spare wheel is located on a label
either on the driver's side B-pillar or inside the fuel fil ler flap. Because technica
l changes may be made to vehicle equipment
during the mode l year, always compare the tire size designation on
the tire pressure label on your vehicle with the tires on your vehic le .
Make sure that the tire size information on the vehic le label is the _.,

possible to see whether the radial tires used today are underinflated
just by looking at them.
Therefore, be sure to check tire pressures at least once a month and
always before going on a long trip. Make sure to take the number of
people and the amount of luggage into account when adjusting tire
pressure for a trip -even one that you would not consider to be
"long." See=>
page 321, "Tires and vehicle load limits" for more
important information.
Always use an accurate tire pressure gauge when checking and
adjusting inflation pressures . Check all of the tires and be sure not
to forget the spare tire. If the pressure in any tire is too high when
the tire is "cold," let air out of the tire slowly with the edge of the tire
gauge and keep checking the pressure until you reach the pressure
that is correct for the load (passengers and luggage) and kind of
driving you plan to do.
If the pressure in any tire is too low, note the difference between the
pressure in the cold tire and the pressure you need and add the air
that you need to reach the correct pressure for the vehicle load
(passengers and luggage) for the tires on your vehicle as listed on
the on your vehicle and in this manual and the kind of driving you
plan to do.
Never exceed the maximum inflation pressure listed on the tire
sidewall for any reason.
Remember that the vehicle manufacturer, not the tire manufacturer,
determines the correct tire pressure for the tires on your vehicle.
It is important to check the tire pressure when the tires are cold.
• Read the required tire pressure from the tire pressure label. On
USA vehicles, the tire pressure label is located on the driver's side
8-pillar . On Canada vehicles, the tire pressure label is located either
on the driver's side 8-pillar or inside the fuel filler flap.
• Turn the valve stem cap counter-clockwise to remove it from the
tire valve.
• Place the air pressure gauge on the valve. • The
tire pressures should only be checked and adjusted when
the tires are cold. The slightly raised pressures of warm tires must
not be reduced .
• Adjust the tire pressure to the load you are carrying.
• Reinstall the valve stem cap on the valve.
When should I check the tire pressure?
The correct tire pressure is especially important at high speeds. The
pressure should therefore be checked at least once a month and
always before starting a journey. Do not forget to check the tire pres­
sure for the spare wheel =>
page 337.
When should I adjust the tire pressures?
Adjust the tire pressure to the load you are carrying. After changing
a wheel
or replacing wheels you have to adjust the tire pressures on
all wheels. In addition, you must then initialize the new tire pres­
sures in the tire pressure monitoring system=>
page 42.
& WARNING
Incorrect tire pressures and/or underinflation can lead sudden tire
failure, loss of control, collision, serious personal injury or even
death.
• When the warning symbol I appears in the instrument
cluster, stop and inspect the tires.
• Incorrect tire pressure and/or underinflation can cause
increased tire wear and can affect the handling of the vehicle and
stopping ability .
• Incorrect tire pressures and/or underinflation can also lead to
sudden tire failure, including a blowout and sudden deflation,
causing loss of vehicle control.
• The driver is responsible for the correct tire pressures for all
tires on the vehicle. The applicable pressure values are located on a sticker on the driver's side 8-pillar or on the inside of the fuel
filler flap. .,_

The tires and rims are essential parts of the vehicle's design. The
tires and rims approved by Audi are specially matched to the char­ acteristics of the vehicle and can make a major contribution to good
road holding and safe handling when in good condition and prop­
erly inflated =>& .
We recommend that all work on tires and wheels be performed by
an authorized Audi dealer. They are familiar with recommended
procedures and have the necessary special tools and spare parts as
well as the proper facilities for disposing of the old tires.
Authorized Audi dealers have the necessary information about tech ­
nical requirements for installing or changing tires and rims.
Replacing tires and wheels
Tires should be replaced at least in pairs and not individually (for
example both front tires or both rear tires together).
Be sure to read and heed the information to the tire pressure moni ­
toring system =>
page 327.
Always buy replacement radial tires that have the same specifica ­
tions as the tires approved for your vehicle by Audi. Replacement
tires must always have the same load rating specification as the original equipment or approved optional tires listed in the table
=> page 317.
Audi -approved specification tires are specially matched to your
vehicle and its load limits, and can contribute to the important road-.,_

• All four wheels mu st be fitted with radial tires of the same type,
si ze (rolling cir cumference ) and the same tread pattern. Driving
with different tires redu ces vehicle handling and can le ad to a loss
of control.
• If the spare tire is not the same as the tires that are mounted
on the vehi cle -for e xample with winter tires -only use the spare
t ire for a short period of time and drive w ith extra care . Refit the
normal road wheel as soon as safely possible.
• Never drive faster than the maximum speed for whi ch the tires
on your vehicle are rated becau se t ires that are driven faster than
their rated speed c an fail suddenly .
• Overload ing tires cause heat build-up , sudden tire failure,
including a blowout and sudden deflation and loss of control .
• Tempe rature grades apply to t ires that are properly inflated and
not over or underinflated.
• Fo r techni cal reasons it is not always possible to use wheels
from other vehicles -in some cases not even wheels from the
same vehicle model .
• If you install wheel trim discs on the vehicle wheels , make sure
that the air flow to the brakes is not blo cked . Reduced airflow to
the brakes can them to overheat , increasing stopping distances
and causing a collision .
• Run flat tires may only be u sed on vehicles that were equipped
with them at the factory . The vehicle must have a chas sis designed
for run flat tires and a factory -installed tire pressure monitoring
system that indi cates a loss of tire pressure . In corre ct u se of run
flat tires can lead to vehicle damage or accidents . Check with an
authori zed Audi dealer or tire specialist to see if your vehicle can
be equipped w ith run flat tires . If run flat tires are used , they must
be installed on all four wheels . Mi xing tire types is not permitted.
