MMI Operating Instructions
contain detailed description of the Audi Multi Media Interface (MMD
including the navigation system, the sound system and the hand­
held phone .
The Maintenance & Warranty booklet
explains how you can keep your Audi in top driving condition by
having it serviced regu lar ly and contains detailed information about
the warranties covering your Audi. Always have the booklet with you
when you take your vehicle to an authori zed Audi dea ler for service.
Your Audi Service Adviser will record each schedu led service and
can answer any ques tions y ou may have regarding how to maintain
your vehicle.

• The digital c lock and the odometer are turned on for about 30
seconds when the driver's door is opened.
• When the ignition is turned off, the odometer reading and the
digital clock with date display can be switched on for about
30 seconds by pressing the !CHECK] button~
page 16, fig. 5. •
Speedometer with odometer
The speedometer shows you the vehicle speed, and the
odometer shows you how many miles (kilometers) you
have driven.

The odometer and trip odometer are located inside the speedom ­
eter.
• USA models - Miles
• Canada models -Kilometers
You can switch the disp lay from miles to kilometers and vice versa
via the MMI.
Lower odometer
The lower odometer shows the total number of miles (kilometers)
driven .

Instruments and warning /indicator lights
Upper odometer (trip odometer)
The upper odometer shows the total number of miles (kilometers)
driven since you last reset the odometer to zero. You can use this
odometer when you want to keep track of how many miles (kilome ­
ters) you have driven for a single trip or errand. The last digit indi­
cates 1/10 of a mile (100 meters).
You can reset the trip odometer to zero by pressing the Reset button
~ o.o.
Malfunction message
If there is a malfunction somewhere in the instrument cluster,
dEF
wil l appear in the trip odometer and will stay on . Contact your
authorized Audi dealer to have the problem corrected .
Immobilizer
When the ignition is switched on, the data on the ignition key are
scanned automatically.
If an unauthorized key was used,
SAFE is displayed continuously in
the odometer display field. The vehicle cannot be operated
~ page 51.

• The digital clock and the odometer are turned on for about 30

Fuel gauge
The fuel gauge only works when the ignition is on .

- Press the"-" button to decrease the brightness during the
hours of darkness .
A light sensor in the instrument cluster controls the il luminat ion for
the instrument cluster, the center console and the displays. In a bright environment, using the buttons to change the brightness has
no effect.
[ i ] Tips
The illumination for the instrument cluster lights up whenever you
switch on the ignition with the vehicle head lights off. As the
daylight fades, the instrument cluster illumination likewise dims
automatically and wi ll go out comp lete ly when the outside light is
very low. This feature is meant to remind you to switch on the head­
lights when outside light conditions become poor. •

Digital speedometer

Current speed appears in the display . Speed is shown in 1 mph
measures (USA models) or 1 km/h measures (Canada models).
You can switch the display from miles to kilometers and vice versa
via the MMI. •
Open door or trunk lid warning
The pictogram alerts you when doors or the rear lid have
been left open.

With the ignition switched on, the open door or rear lid warning illu ­
minates when at least
one door or the hood or the trunk lid is not

closed. The symbol also shows you which door(s) or lid is not
closed.
In the illustration=> fig. 12 it is the driver's door, the left rear door
and the rear lid. As soon as all the doors, the hood, the rear lid and
the fuel filler cap are properly closed, the door and rear lid warning
turns off and the Driver Information System functions selected are
displayed again .•
Defective light bulb warning
The defective light bulb warning tells you when a vehicle
light bulb has become defective.

The defective light bulb warning monitors the function of the light
bulbs . If a defective light bulb is detected, or if a light bulb has
burned out, a yellow symbol appears as well as a pictogram in which
the defective light bulb is shown=> fig. 13.
Defective brake light
(USA models)/ (Canada models)
If the symbol illuminates, a brake light has failed. The burned out
light is shown in the pictogram.

the backup light, a fog light or a rear fog light has failed . _,,

Warning threshold 1 is set by the ( CHECK) button.

The speed warning symbol 8 (USA modelsl/ 0 (Canada mode ls) will
appear briefly in the display when you re lease the button to indicate
that the maximum speed has been stored successful ly.
The maximum speed remains stored until it is changed by pressing
the button again briefly or unti l it is deleted by a lengthy push on the
button. •

Warning threshold 2 can be adjusted within a speed range of 30 to
200 km/h. Settings can be adjusted in intervals of 10 km/h each.•

Master key with remote control The remote c ontrol allows you to lock or unlock the
vehicle electronically.

- To fold t he key out and back in place, press the release

The transmitter and battery are located in the head of the remote
control. The r eceiver is locat ed inside the vehicle . The maximum
effective range depends on severa l things . Remember, if the battery
is weak, the effect ive range decreases.
I f you need to replace the remote co ntro l, or if you need to have it
repaired , you must see your authorized Audi dealer. Only then can
you use the key again .
Person alizing the m ast er key
When the ignition is tu rned off or when the vehicle is locked, various
convenience settings are stored automatical ly and assigned to the
key that was used . The settings that are assigned to the master key
are recalled automatically when the veh icle is unlocked, when the
door is opened or when the ignition is switched on .

The
Remot e control ke y function must be activated in the MMI
~ page 92, so that the se ttings for the driver's seat (including the
settings for the ste ering column and exterior mirrors) are saved on
t he master key through the sea t memory when the vehicle is locked,
and are set automatica lly when the vehicle is unlocked .
[ i ] Tips
• I f the ignition is switched on, the remote control system is deac­
t ivated.
• The remote control syst em can be affected by other syst ems
operating in the same frequency range close t o the vehicle, such as
mobi le te lephones, television broadcasting stations, etc. •

Operating locks vvith the key
To lock and unlock the vehicle from the outside, turn the
key in the lock of the driver's door.

Sele ctive unlock feature -the driver can determine in the

locking sys tem.

In the Central lo cking menu you can dete rmine which doors should
be unlocked when you unlock the vehicle with the remote control.
For example , if you switch the i tem passenger's doo r
off, the
passenger 's door is no longer included in the central locking
system , and will not be unlocked by pressing the unlock button on
the master key remote control.
Th ere is also a
s ide selective unlocking option ava ilable tha t can be
set to fit your needs. You can continue to un lock all the doors and
the rear lid as before. Press the opening button on the master key
twice.

Child safety lock
Power child safety lock for the rear doors t
The power child safety lock prevents the rear doors from
being opened from the inside.

It is operated with t he two safety buttons(!) in the driver's
door=} fig. 42 .
- Press the left and/or right safety button to disable t he
rear p ower window(sl and preve nt the respective rear
door from being opened from t he inside. The LED in the
button will light up when the chi ld safety lock is tur ned
on .
- Press the ill umina ted butt on aga in t o turn the child
safety f eatures
off .
When the chi ld safe ty lock is activated, the interior door opening
lever is inoperative; the door can only be opened from the ou tside .
In addi tion, the window regulator for that door is a lso inoperative
when the child safety lock is activated.

• In order to activate the child safety lock on the left and the righ t
side, you have to press the two safety buttons in succession.
• Make certain that the check light comes on in the corresponding
safety switch when the child safety lock is activated. •
Advanced Key

Description
Access and vehicle operation based on: Master key remains in driver's pocket.
The Advanced Key vehicle authori zation system allows keyless
unlocking, locking and starting of the vehicle . You only have to carry
t he master key on your person .
It makes no difference whether the master key is in your jacket
pocket or in your brief case . As soon as you approach your vehicle ,
the Advanced Key recogni zes the request for access, checks for
authori zation and enab les th e following functions :
