A WARNING

-Never re ly e xclusively on the o utside
temperature display to determ ine if a
road surface is icy or not. Keep in m ind
that road surface s, espec ia lly br idg es
a nd overpa sses, co uld be ice co ve red and
slippe ry even at a n o utside tempe rat ure
above 41 ° F (+ S °C).
- Always remember, even if the "snow­
f la ke" sym bo l (ice warning) does not ap ­
pear in t he dis play, black ice cou ld be on
the road.
- Always red uce your spee d an d drive with
special care in cold weathe r cond itions
when t he chance of enco untering icy
road surfaces increases.
(D Tips
- At tempe ra tu res below 14 ° F (+ 5 °C ) a
snowfla ke symbol a ppears ahead of the
temperat ure display . It is intended to re­
mind the driver to pay special attention
to
ice on the road c> .&. . If the vehicle is
stationa ry, or if you a re driving at a very
low speed, the temperature shown in the
display might be slightly higher than the
actual ou ts ide temperature. This is
c au sed by the heat bei ng r adia ted fro m
th e engine.

Display content
In the MMI, you c an specify which informa tion
shoul d be displayed :
- Cru ise cont ro l system*
- Nav igat ion information *
- Audi adaptive cruise control*
- Night vision assistant* (pedestrian warning)
The speed display and some of the red indica­
tor lights cannot be hidden in the MMI.
Display brightness
You can adjust the display b rightness in t he
M MI. The display bright ness decreases auto­
mat ic all y as the amo unt of light decreases.
The basic leve l of bright ness is adjusted with
the instrument illumination ¢

the Head -up Display, do not place any ob ­
jects i n the projection opening.

On-Board Diagnostic
system (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction In dicator Lamp (MIL) I! in
the instrument cluster is part of the On-Board
Diagnostic (OBD II) system.
The warning/indicator light illumina tes when
the ign ition is switc hed o n and goes o ut afte r
the engine starts and the idle has stab ilized .
This indicates that the MIL is working proper­
ly .
If the light does not go out after t he e ngine
is started, or illuminates wh ile you are dr iv­
i ng, a mal funct ion may exist in the eng ine sys ­
tem . If the light illuminates, t he catalytic con­
verter could be damaged .
Contin ue driving
with reduced power (avo id­
i ng s ustained high speeds and/o r rap id accel ­
erations) and have the cond ition corrected.
Co ntact your a uthorized Audi dea ler.
If the light i llum inates, the e lectronic speed
li miter may also be mal funct ion ing. Fo r more

On-Board Diagnostics

On- Boa rd Di agnost ics monitors the compo ­
nents of your emissio n contro l system . Each
monitored component in your engine system
has been ass igned a code. In case of a mal­
funct ion, the component will be identified
and t he fault stored as a code in the control
modul e memo ry.
The MIL light may also illuminate if there is a leak in the on-board fuel vapor recovery sys·
tem. If the light illumi nates afte r a refu elling,
stop the vehicle a nd make sure the fuel fille r
cap is prope rly closed ¢
page 217.
In order to make a n accurate diagnosis, the
stored data can o nly be displayed using spe­
c ial d iagnost ic equipment (generic scan tool
fu rOBD) .

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine with the master key with
remote control. A mechanical key is integrat­
ed in the remote control key

It should only be used in an emer­
gency. Keep it in a safe place and do not carry it on your key ring .

If two peop le use one vehicle, it is recom­
mended that each person always uses "their
own" master key . When the ignition is switch­
ed off or when the vehicle is locked, personal
convenience settings for the follow ing sys­
tems are stored and ass igned to the remote
maste r key.

The stored settings are automatically recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open
the doors or w hen you switch the ignition on.
A WARNING ,~
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended . Al­
ways take your ign it ion key with you and
lo ck your vehicle. Ent ry by unauthorized
persons could endanger yo u or result in
theft or damage the vehicle .
- Do not leave ch ildren unatte nded in the
veh icle, especially with access to vehicle
keys . Unguarded access to the keys pro ­
vides children the opportunity to start the engine and/or activate vehicle sys­
tems such as the power windows, etc.
Unsupervised operation of any vehicle
system by children can result in serious

- The operat ion of t he remote control key
can be temporarily disrupted by interfer­
ence from transm itters in the vic inity of
the vehicle working in the same frequen­
cy rang e (e .g. a cell phone, radio equ ip­
ment).

Description

"Night v is ion assistant with pedestrian detec­
tion" uses an infrared camera to monitor the
area in front of your vehicle at night. Within
the limits of the system, it can display objects
up to about 1000 feet (300 meters) away. The
heat image of a pedestrian detected by the
camera is shown in the instrument cluster dis­
play

Night vision assistant can detect pedestrians
that are between about 50 and 300 feet (15
and 90 meters) in front of the vehicle, under
ideal conditions . If a pedestrian is detected
when it is dark outside and the vehicle head­
lights are switched on, the pedestrian is high­
l ighted in yellow

I f a pedestrian is detected i n an area in front
of the vehicle that the system considers criti­
cal, the pedestrian is high lighted in red
q fig . 100 and a warning tone sounds. Th is
area is based on the vehicle speed and steer ­
ing angle. The pedestrian warning prompts
you to pay even closer attention to the area in
front of the ve hicle and to watch out for pe­
destrians.
If another display s uch as the tr ip computer
replaces the image from the night vision as­
sistant, the indicator light turns red when
there is a pedestria n warning

Pedestrian detection depends on the d iffer ­
ence in temperature between the person and
t h e background. Pedestr ians may not be de­
tected if the temperature diffe ren ce is too
small . Th e pedestrian highl ighting feature is
deactivated at tempe ratures above 77 ° F (25
°C) and when it is light outs ide.
A WARNING
Night vision assistant has limits a nd can­
not always detect pedestr ians. Always pay
close attention to traffic a nd the area
a round your vehicle even when night vision
assistant is sw itched on .
- Night vision assistant can only warn
about people located within the visual
range of the infra red camera. The visual
range corresponds to the image in the in­
s trument clus ter di splay .
- Night vision assistant may not detect
-
peop le and h ighlight them if .,.

-they are not in an upright position, for
examp le if they are s itting, crouching
or lying down and/or
- if the outline in the display is incom­
p lete or interrupted, for example be­
cause the person is partially hidden by
a parked veh icle .
(D Tips
-Pedestrian detection and the pedestrian
warming are lim ited to objects that are
detected as pedestr ians. The system
does not detect animals . Even though
the shape and warmth radiated by each
object det ected is evaluated, the system
does have lim itations and it can give in­
correct warnings.
- Fo r techn ical reasons , the image pauses
in split second interva ls.

- Never use sponges designed to remove insects, or any kitchen scouring sponges
or similar products . They can damage
your paint finish.
- Never use a dry cloth or sponge to clean
the headlights . Only use wet cloths or
sponges to prevent scratches. It is best
to use soapy water.
- You should remove debris (such as in­
sects) from the headl ight lenses on a
regular basis, for example when refuel­
i ng your vehicle. Never clean the head­
li ghts w ith a dry cloth or sponge. Use a
wet cloth or sponge.
It is best to use
soapy wa ter.

In the interest of the envi ronment, the ve­
hicle sho uld only be washed i n special

Washing your vehicle with a power
washer
Cleaning the exterior of your car with a high­
pressure power washer is safe as long as you
observe a few simple rules.

and camera lenses . Do not use a jet which sprays water in a

or one t hat has a rotating jet .

A WARNING ~ -
Neve r wash tires with a jet that sprays wa­
ter i n a direct stream. This could cause in ­
vis ib le damage to the t ires and weaken
them, even if the spray is from a re lative ly
l ong distance and for a short time. Dam­
aged and weakened tires can fail and cause
accidents and personal inj ury.

To avoid damaging your vehicle, a lways
make sure that there is suffic ient d istance
between the spray head and soft materia ls
like rubber hoses, plast ic pa rts and sound­
deaden ing mater ials as w ell as sensors
and camera lenses. Neve r aim t he sp ray
head at the same point for a long time.
This also applies to cleaning headligh ts
and painted bumpers. Remembe r: the
closer the nozzle is to the surface of the
materia l, the greater the stress on the ma ­
terial.
Sensors and camera lenses
- Remove snow with a hand br ush and remove
ice with a de- ic ing spray that does not con­
tain so lvents .
- Clea n the sensors (adaptive cruise control*,
pa rk ing system*) w ith a cleaning so lution
that does not contain so lvents and a soft
cloth .
- The camera lens or the area in front of the
came ra le ns is no rmally cleaned by the
w indshie ld w ipers o r he adlig ht wipers (night
vision system *).
If the lens or the area is ex­
ceptionally di rty, clean the area wit h glass
cleaner and a soft, dry cloth .
