Overview
Some ind icator lights turn on briefly to check
the function of that system when you switch
the ignition on. These systems are ma rked
with a ,/ in the following tables. If one of
these indicator lights does not turn on, there
is a malfunction in that system.

out after the engine has started .
• Alternator fault: Battery is not being
charged
If the indicator light turns on and the mes­
sage appears, there is a malfunction in the generator or veh icle electrical system.
Drive to your authorized A udi dealer or quali­
fied workshop immediate ly . Because the vehi­
cle battery is discharg ing, turn
off all unnec ­
essary electrical equipment such as the rad io.
Seek professional assistance if the battery
charge level is too low.

put on your safety belt.

when the ignition is switched on to remind
the driver and any front passenger to put on
the safety be lt. Additiona lly, an acoustic warn­
ing (gong) wi ll also sound.

If the battery te rm inals were disconnected
and re-connected, the vehicle was j ump sta rt­
ed or the batte ry is very weak, the ESC sensor
system goes through a learning process for
the first few yards. The warning/ind icator
light illuminates . The war ning/ indicato r light
goes out as soon as the learning proc ess is
comp lete .

ABS/( @) Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
This warning/indicator light monitors the ABS
and the electronic differ ential lock (EDL).
The warning/indicator light E (USA mod­
e ls)
;£1 (Canada mode ls) will come on fo r a
few seconds when the ignition is switched on.
The light will go out after an a utomat ic chec k
se quence is completed .
There is a malfunction in the ABS when :
-The warning/ indicator lig ht d oes not ill umi ­
nate whe n you switch the ign ition on.
- The wa rning/i ndicator lig ht does not go out
after a few seconds .
- The warning/indicator lig ht illumi nates
wh ile driving.
T he ESC ind ic a tor light a lso ill umin ates if
the re is a mal func tion in the A BS. T he mes ­

The current fuel consumption can be dis­
p layed using a bar ¢
fig. 10. The average con­
sumpt ion (mpg) stored in the short-term
memory is also displayed. Electrical energy
can be stored in the battery when the vehicle is coasting or driving downhill (recuperation) .
The bar w ill move toward Cl.
Efficiency program
The efficiency program can help you to use
less fuel. It evaluates driving information in
reference to fuel consumption and shows oth­
er equipment influencing consumption as well
as shift recommendations. ¢

for eff icient driving . The efficiency program
uses distance and consumption data from tr ip
computer

To display the efficiency program, call up Ve­
hicl e functions and select the menu option
Efficiency program . If the data a re deleted in
the efficiency program, those values are also
reset in tr ip computer.
(D} Tips
- All stored values w ill be lost if the veh i­
cle battery is disconnected.
- Fuel consumpt ions (average and cur­
rent), range and speed are displayed in
metric units on Canadian models.

Requirement : The eff iciency program must be
displayed

.,. Turn the thumbwheel until the other equip ­
ment appears in the display . Other equipment that is currently affecting
fuel consumption is listed in the efficiency
program. The display shows up to three other
items of equ ipment @. The equ ipment using
the most fuel is listed first . If more than three
items using fuel are switched on, the equip ­
ment that is currently using the most fuel is
displayed .
A scale @also shows the current total con­
sumption of all other equipment .
Fuel economy messages

Fuel economy messages are displayed when
fuel consumption is increased by certain con­
ditions. If you follow these fuel economy mes­
sages, you can reduce your veh icle's consump­
tion of fuel. The messages appear automat i­
cally and are only displayed in the efficiency
program. The fuel economy messages turn off
automat ically after a certain per iod of t ime .
.,. To turn an economy message off immed i-
ately after it appears, press any button on
the mult ifunction steering wheel.
@ Tips
- Once you have turned a fuel economy
message off, it will only appear again af­
ter you turn the ign ition on again .
- The fuel economy messages are not dis­
played in every instance, but rather in in­
tervals over a period of time.

Service interval display
The service interval display reminds you when
your next service is due .

The schedule for the next oil change o r inspec­
tion is calculated automatically and displayed
according ly . The display works in two stages:
Service reminder
30 days before the next service is due, a serv­
ice reminder appears in the display when you
switch the ignition o n

After about 5 seconds the display sw itches
back to normal. The distance and time re­
maining are updated each time the ignition is
switched on until the date due for service is
reached.
Service due
When the due date for service is reached, the
message
Service due! appears in the instru­
ment cluster immediately after you switch the
ignition on. Additionally, a warn ing tone
sounds. After about 5 seconds the display
switches back to normal.
Calling up the service schedules
If or when an oil change or inspect ion is due,
can be shown in the MMI display by select ing
the service interva l disp lay in the car menu .
Select the
!CAR ! function button> (Car)* sys­
tems
control button > Servicing & checks >
Service interval displays. In new vehicles, the
schedule can only be called up after approxi­ mately S00 km.
Resetting the service interval display
Your authorized Audi dea ler will reset the cor­
responding service schedule after performing
the appropriate service on your vehicle. You
also have the possibility to reset the oil
change schedule after having performed an
oil change according to Audi specifications.
Select the
ICAR I function button> (Car)* sys­
tems
control button > Servicing & checks >
Service Intervals> Reset oil change interval.

If you disconnect the battery term inals, no
calculations can be made for the service
i nterval display during th is time and no
serv ice reminder will appear. Remember
that observing the proper service in tervals
i s vitally important to extending the life of
your vehicle, particularly the engine, and maintain ing its value. Even if the mileage
driven is low, the maximum period of one
year from one service to the next must not
be exceeded.
(D Tips
-Do not reset the display between oil
changes, otherwise the display w ill be in ­
correct.
- The information in the Service Reminder
remains stored even when the vehicle
battery is disconnected.

on the passenger's side

Check light in the master key
The check light @ in the master key provides
information about different cond itions .
• The check light comes on briefly once when
a button is pressed, and during an "inquiry"
by the conven ience key system .
• If the check light does not come on, the
battery is dead and has to be replaced. In
addition, when the battery is dead the
E!!
symbol appears in the instrument cluster

display as well as the message: Please
change key battery .
Master key battery replacement
• Pull the mechanical key out of the master
key
c::> page 33.
• Press the release button @ on the battery
holder and at the same time pull the battery
holder out of the master key in the direction
of the arrow.
• Install the new battery CR 2032 with the
"+ " sign facing down.
• Push the battery holder carefully into the
maste r key .
• Install the mechanical key.
@ For the sake of the environment
Dispose of dead batteries properly so as
not to pollute the environment .

The replacement battery must be the
same specification as the original.
, Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer helps to prevent unauthor­
ized use of your vehicle .
A computer chip inside your key automatically
deactivates the electronic immobilizer when
the key is inside the vehicle. When you remove
the key from the vehicle, the electronic immo­
bilizer is automatically activated once again .
A WARNING
-
Always take the key with you when you
leave the vehicle. The key can disarm the
e lectronic engine immobilizer and permit
an unauthorized person to start the engine
and enable operation of the vehicle sys­
tems such as power window or power sun­
roof leading to serious personal injury.
(D Tips
- Th e vehicle cannot be started if an una u­
thorized key is used. The vehicle may not
start if another radio device such as a key

@ Tips
If your vehicle has been standing for an ex­
tended period, please note the follow ing:
- The proximity sensors are deactivated af-
ter a few days to save power. You then
have to pull on the door handle once to
unlock the vehicle and a second time to
open the veh icle.
- To prevent the battery from being dis­
charged and to preserve your veh icle's
ability to start for as long as possible,
the energy management system gradu­
ally switches off unnecessary conven­ i ence funct ions. It is possible that you
will not be able to unlock your vehicle us­
i ng these conven ien ce f unctions.

Operating locks with the key
In the event of a failure of the power locking
system, the driver's door can be locked and unlocked at the lock cylinder.

If you lock the vehicle using the power locking
switch, p lease note the following:
- You cannot open the doors or the rear lid
from the
outside ( increased security, for ex­
ample when you are stopped at a red light).
- The d iodes in the power locking switches il-
luminate when all the doors are closed and
locked.
- Front doors: you can unlock and open the
doors from the inside by pulling on the door
handle.
- Rear doors: pull the door handle
once to re­
lease the lock. Pull the handle
again to open
the door.
- If you have a crash and the airbag is activat­
ed the doors automatically unlock .

A WARNING
-The power lock ing switch works with the
ig nit ion off and automat ica lly locks the
enti re veh icle when it is actuated.

-When you leave your veh icle -even if on­
ly briefly -always take the ignition key
with you . This applies partic ularly when
children remain in the vehicle . Otherwise
the ch ildren could start the engine or op­
erate electrical equ ipment (e.g. power
windows). The power windows are func­
t ional until the driver's door or passeng ­
er's door has been opened .
- Be careful when closing the wi ndows .
Check to see that no one is in the way, or
serious injury could result!
- When locking the veh icle from outs ide,
the vehicle must be unoccu pied s ince the
windows ca n no longer be opened i n an
eme rgency .
(0 Tips
- When you ope n the doors, the w indows
a utomat ica lly low er about 10 mm .
- When the window in the dr iver's or pas­
senger's door is completely open, it will
r aise approximate ly 25 mm when the
door is opened. The w indow will lower
again w hen you close the doo r.
- After the ignition has been switched off,
t h e windows can still be opened o r
closed for abou t 10 minu tes. The powe r
windows are not swi tched off un til the
drive r's door or passenge r's door has
been opened .
What to do after a malfunction
The one-touch open and close function must
be reactivated if the battery hos been discon ­
nected.
.. Pull and hold the power w indow switch un ­
t il the window is fully closed .
.. Re lease the switch and then p ull it again for
at least one second .

Valet parking
The valet parking feature protects the lug­
gage compor tment from unauthori zed access
from the outside.

When the valet park ing function is switched
o n, the message
