If necessary, retighten the mountings and check the entire system
from time to time.
• After mounting a roof rack system, or when you transport
objects on the roof of your vehicle, the height of the vehicle is natu­
ra lly increased . Be careful when driving under low bridges or in
parking garages for examp le. This cou ld cause damage to the load
and even the vehicle itself. •
Mounting locations
Safe installation of a roof rack requires that the rack
sup ports are m ounted between the small arrows marked
inside the door frames on all four doors .

Mount the roof racks suppo rts in the side roof moldings. Make sure
to position the supports on
all four doors between the points
marked by small
arrows => fig. 109. The markings can only be seen
when the doors are open . •
Loading the roof rack
Always distribute loads evenly. Make sure anything on the
r o of rack is securely tied down .
-Always distribute the loads on the roof rack evenly.
Always attach items to the roof rack securely before you
drive off.
T he maximum permissible roof weight is 220 lb (100 kg ). The roof
we ight is made up o f the weight of the roo f rack system and the
weight of the object being transported .
When using a roof rack system which has a lower load carrying
capacity, you must not use up the total maximum permissible load
carrying capacity specified above . Instead, you should load the roof
r ack system only to the maximum capacity specified by the manu ­
facturer of the roof rack system .

Sometimes it may be easier to leave a roof rack insta lled even
though you are not using it. Due to the increased a ir resistance your
veh icle wi ll unnecessarily use more fuel. Remove the roof rack if you
a re no t going to use it .•

Adjusting the cupholder individually
P ress and ho ld the retainer arm @ inw ard an d adjust i t
to fit t he c up size.
T he retainer arm should fit snugly around the cup or can. The
cupho lde r is de signed to hold no more than t wo c ups o r cans.
& WARNING
Spilled hot liquid can cau se an accident and per sonal injury.
• Never carry any beverage containers with hot liquids , such as
hot coffee or hot tea , in the vehicle while it is moving. In case of an
accident, sudden braking or other vehicle movement , hot liquid
could spill , causing scalding burns. Spilled hot liquid can al so
cause an accident and personal injury .
• Use only soft cups in the cupholder. Hard cups and glasses can
cause injury in an accident.

-Touch the lid to open ashtray.
Removing ashtray insert
-Push the front side of the cover downward (direction of
arrow)::::::, fig. 113 -the ashtray insert will spring out.
-Lift the insert and remove.
To reinstall ashtray
-Press the insert back in .

Never put waste paper in the ashtray. Hot ashes or other hot
objects in the ashtray could set waste paper on fire. •

The socket of the ci gare tte l ighter may be used for 12-volt appli ­
ances with maximum consumption of up to 100 watts , such as a
flash light, small vacuum c leaner, etc .
Before you purchase any accessories , always read and fo llow the

replacement".
& WARNING
Improper use of the cigarette lighter can cause ser ious injury or
start a fire .
• Be careful when using the cigarette lighter . If you do not pay
attention to what you are do ing when you are using the cigarette
lighter you can burn yourself .
• The cigarette lighter and socket remain functional even if the
ignition is switched off or the ignition key is removed. Never leave
c hildren inside the vehi cle without supervision.

• Only use the cigarette lighter socket as a power source for elec ­
tr ical accesso ries for sh ort du rations. Use the sockets in the vehic le
when a power source is needed for longer durations .

T here are three storage co mpartments in the long center console in
t he rear :
Left storage compartment
The le ft sto rage c om partm ent co ntain s two 12 -v o lt so ckets. The 12 -
volt sockets can be used for electrica l accessories. The power
co nsumption a t a sing le plug mus t no t exceed 100 watts .
Center storage compartment
Th e cen te r storag e compar tment is suitabl e fo r hol ding small items .
Right storage compartment
T he right storage co mpart ment is suita ble for hold ing smal l items.
& WARNING
T he socket plus any appliances plugged into it remain functional
even if the ignition is switched off or the ignition key is removed.
Never leave children in side the vehicle without supervision.

• Always remove objects from the instrument panel. Any items
not stored could slide around inside the vehicle while driving or

when accelerating or when applying the brakes or when driving
around a corner.
• When you are driving make sure that anything you may have
placed in the center console or other storage locations cannot fall
out into the footwells. In case of sudden braking you would not be
able to brake or accelerate.
• Any articles of clothing that you have hung up must not inter­
fere with the driver's view. The coat hooks are designed only for
lightweight clothing . Never hang any clothing with hard, pointed
or heavy objects in the pockets on the coat hooks. During sudden
braking or in an accident -especially if the airbag is deployed -
these objects could injure any passengers inside the vehicle. •
Glove compartment
Your Owner's Literature and the media player are stored
in the lockable glove compartment.

- Push the glove compartment lid up until the lock
engages.
In the glove compa rtm ent lid you will find a place to store a p en and
a pad of paper.

To reduce the risk of personal injury in an accident or sudden stop,
always keep the glove compartment closed while driving. •

Opening
-To open, touch the compartment at the front edge

Removing and inserting storage compartment
-Open the storage compartment.
-Grasp the sides of the storage compartment with both
hands and pull it straight out toward you.
-To insert the storage compartment again, hold it at a
slight angle and push the lower part into the retainer
until it
latches => fig. 123.
-Close the storage compartment. •

• Hang clothes in such a way that they do not impair the driver's
v1s1on.
• The coat hooks must only be used for lightweight clothing. Do
not leave any heavy or sharp edged objects in the pockets which
may interfere with the side curtain airbag deployment and can
cause personal injury in a crash.
• Do not use coat hangers for hanging clothing on the coat hooks
as this can interfere with proper deployment of the SIDEGUARD
head-protection airbags in an accident.
• Do not hang heavy objects on the coat hooks, as they could
cause personal injury
in a sudden stop. •

& WARNING
Reduced visibility is dangerous and can cause accidents .
• For safe driving it is very important that all windows be free of
ice , snow and condensation.
• Completely familiarize yourself with the proper use and func­
tion of the heating and ventilation system and especially how to defog and defrost the windows .
• Never use the windshield wiper /washer system in freezing
weather until you have warmed the windshield first , using the
heating and ventilation system. The washer solution may freeze
on the windshield and reduce visibility .

• Air escapes through vents under the rear window . When p lacing
ite ms of c lothing on the luggage c ompartme nt cover, e nsu re th at
the openings are not covered .
• Climate c ont ro l wor ks mo st effectively if the windows and t he
power roof are c losed . However, if the interior of a parked vehicle is
e xt re mely ho t fro m the sun's rays , briefly open ing the windows ca n
speed up the cooling process .•
