Controls
The driver can control all power windows.

All power window sw itches have a two-stage

A WARNING
- Pay careful attention when closing the win­
dows. Pinching could cause serious injur ies.
- When locking the vehicle from outside, the
vehicle must be unoccupied since the win­ dows can no longer be opened in an emer­
gency .
(D Tips
- You can still open and close the windows for
approximately 10 minutes after turning the i gnition
off. The power windows do not
switch
off until the driver's door or front
passenger's door has been opened.
- When you open the doors, the w indows au­
tomatically lower approximately 10 mm.

All windows can be opened and closed at the
same time.

A WARNING
-Never close the w indows carelessly or in an
uncontrolled manner, because this increas­
es the risk of injury.
- For security reasons, the windows can only
be opened and closed with the remote con­
trol key at a maximum distance of approx i­
mate ly 6 ft (2 m) away from the vehicle.
When pressing the~ button, always watch
the windows while they are closing so that
no one is pinched in the window. The closing
process will stop immediately when the~
button is released.

-If the battery has been discharging for a
wh ile, the parking light may sw itch off auto­
matically. Always make sure your vehicle is
parked and adequately lit according to the
laws . Avo id using the parking lights for sev­
eral hours.
- Always observe legal regulations when us­
ing the light ing systems described.
(D Tips
- The light sensor for the automatic head­
lights* is in the rearview mirror mount. Do
not place any stickers in th is area on the
windsh ield.
- Some exterior lighting functions can be ad­
justed

-If you turn off the ignition wh ile the exterior
lights are on and open the door, a warning
tone so unds .
- In some markets, the ta il lights will sw itch
on when the dayt ime run ning lights switch
on.
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of the
headlights, turn signals and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperature difference
between the inside and outs ide. They will
clear short ly after switching them on. This
does not affect the service life of the light­
ing.
Turn signal and high beam lever
The Lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher.

switched on.

The turn signa l blinks three times if you tap the
lever (convenience turn signa l).
High beams and headlight flasher

A WARNING
= H igh beams can cause glare for other drivers,
which increases the risk of an accident. For
this reason, only use the high beams or the
headlight flasher when they will not create
g lare for other dr ivers.
Adjusting the exterior lighting
The functions are adjusted in the Infotainment
system .

tings > Exterior lighting .
Automatic headlights
You can adjust the following settings in the Au­
tomatic headlights menu:
Activation time -you can adjust if the headlights
switch on Early, Medium or Late according to the
sensit ivity of the light sensor.
Audi adaptive light * -you can sw itch adaptive
light
On and Off .
Daytime running lights*
USA models: the daytime running lights can be
switched on or off using the MM I. Select
On or
Off .

Canada models : this function cannot be switched
off . They activate automatica lly each time the ig­
n ition is switched on . T his menu item is shown
with a "gray background".
Com ing home , Lea ving home
The com ing home function illum ina tes the area
outside the vehicle when you turn the ignition off
and open the driver 's door . To switch o n the func ­
tion, select
Entry /ex it lighting .
The leav ing home ill umin ates t he a re a out side
the vehicle when you unlock the vehicle . To
switch on the function, select
Entr y/exi t light­
ing .
The com ing home and leaving home f unctions
only operate when it is dark and the lig ht switch
is in the
AU TO position.
Emergency flasher

The emergency flashers makes other drivers
aware of yo ur vehicle in dangerous si tuat ions .
• Press the ~ button to switc h the eme rgency
flashers on or off.
You can indicate a lane change or a tu rn when the
em ergency fl ash ers are sw itched on by us ing the
tur n sig nal lever. The emergency flashers s top
tempo rar ily.
The emergency flashers also work when the igni­
tion is tur ned off.

You s hou ld switch the emergency flashers on
if:

- You a re the last c ar in a tra ffic j am so that
all other vehi cles approaching from behind
can see you, or if
- Your vehicle has broken down or yo u are
having an emergency, or if
- You r vehicle is be ing towed or if you are
towing another vehicle .

A switch is no longer needed to switch the read­
ing lights on . A swiping movement or a brief tap
o n the light is all that is needed to switch the
li ght on or off. If yo u hold your finger on the
r ead ing light when switching it on, this ca n dim
the light dow n to a certai n level.
Interior light ing
There are othe r optional interior lighting func­
tions that are available . Several funct ions can be
set in the Infotainment system . Select in the In­
f ota inment system :

Windshield wipers
Switching the windshield wipers on

Move the windshield wiper lever to the corre­
sponding position:
@ -windshield w ipers off
@ -interval mode. To increase/decrease the wip­
er intervals, move the switch ® to the left/right.
In vehicles with a rain sensor*, the wipers turn on in the rain once the vehicle speed exceeds ap­
proximately 2 mph (4 km/h). The higher the sen ­
sitivity of the rain sensor* is set (switch ® to the
right), the earlier the windsh ield wipers react to
mo isture on the windsh ield. You can deact ivate
the rain sensor mode* in the Infotainment sys­
tem, which switches the intermi ttent mode on.

tion longer, the wipers switch from slow wiping
to fast w iping.
® -clean the windshield To eliminate water
droplets, the windshield wipers perform one af­
terwipe after several seconds while driving in
temperatures above 39 °F (4 °C). You can switch
this function off by moving the lever to position
@ within 10 seconds of the afterwipe . The after­
wipe function is reactivated the next t ime you
switch the ignition on.
C leaning the headlights* . The headlight washer
system* only functions when the lights are

switched on. The headlights are automatically
cleaned the first time and every fifth time the
l ever is moved to position

A WARNING

- The rain sensor* is only intended to assist
the driver. The driver may still be responsi­
ble for manually sw itch ing the w ipers on
based on visibility cond itions.
- The windsh ield may not be treated w ith wa­
ter-repelling w indshield coating agents. Un­
favorable condit ions, such as wetness, dark­
ness, and when the sun is low, can cause in­
creased glare, wh ich increases the risk of an
accident. Wiper blade chatter is also possi­
b le.
- Properly functioning windshield wiper
b lad es are required for a cl ear v iew and safe
driving

wiper blades .
(D Note
-If there is frost, make sure the windshield
w iper blades are not frozen to the wind­
shield. Switching on the windshield w ipers
when the blades are frozen to the wind­
shield can damage the wiper blades.
- Prior to using a car wash, the w indshield
wiper system must be switched off (lever in
position 0). This prevents the wipers from
switching on unintentionally and caus ing
damage to the windsh ield wiper system.
(D Tips
- The windshie ld wipers switch off when the
ignition is switched off. You can activate the
w indshield wipers after the ignition is
switched back on by moving the w indshield
w iper lever to any position.
- Wor n or dirty windshield w iper blades result
in streaking. This can affect the rain sensor*
function . Check your w indshield w iper
blades regularly .
- The washer f luid nozzles in the windsh ield
washer system are heated * at low tempera-
tures when the ign ition is o n. .,.

-Do not inadvertently press the accelerator
pedal when the vehicle is stopped if a gear is
engaged. Otherwise the vehicle will start to
move immediately, even if the parking brake
is set . This could result in a crash .
- Do not press the accelerator pedal when
changing the selector lever position while
the vehicle is stationary and the engine is
running.
- Never leave your vehicle with the engine running while in gear.
If you must leave
your vehicle when the engine is running, set
the parking brake and move the selector lev­
er to the P position .
- To decrease the risk of an accident, these­
lector lever must be in the P position and
the parking brake must be set before open­
ing the hood and working on a running en­
gine. Always read and follow the applicable
warnings¢
page 244, Working in the en­
gine compartment.
{[) Note
Never let the vehicle roll downhill with engine
off and the selector lever in the
N position,
because this could damage the automatic
transmission and catalytic converter.
@ Tips
- Drive select: sporty shifting characteristics
can be selected using the
Dynamic driving
mode. The Infotainment display shows 5 as
the selector lever position instead of D.
- If you accidentally select N while driving,
take your foot off the accelerator pedal im­
mediately and wait for the engine to slow
down to idle before selecting Dor 5 .
- If there is a power failure, the selector lever
will not move out of the P position. The
emergency release can be used if this hap­
pens. Left-hand drive vehicles
q page 69.
Driving
Selector lever lock
The selector lever lock prevents you from select­
ing a gear accidentally, causing the vehicle to
roll.

To release the selector lever lock:
.,. Switch on the ignition.
.,. Press the brake pedal
while pressing the inter-
lock button.
Automatic shift lock (ASL)
The selector lever is locked in the P and N posi­
tions when the ignition is switched on. You must press the brake pedal to select another position.
You must also press the interlock button if you
are moving from the
P position. The following
message appears in the display when the selector
lever is in the P or
N position to remind the driv­
er:
To select a gear, please press brake pedal and press lock button on selector lever
The automatic shift lock only functions when the
vehicle is stationary or at speeds below 1 mph
(2 km/h). At higher speeds, the lock is automati­
cally deactivated in the N position.
The selector lever is not locked when shifting
quickly through N, for example from R to D. This
makes it possible to free the vehicle when it is
stuck by "rocking" it. The selector lever lock en­
gages if the lever stays in the N position longer
than approximately 2 seconds when the brake
pedal is not pressed.

Driving - The transmission can overheat and be dam­
aged under certain driving and traffic condi­
tions such as frequent starts, creeping for a
long time, or stop -and-go traffic. When the
@] or. indicator light turns on, stop the
vehicle at the next opportunity and let the
transmission cool

-Allowing the vehicle to roll when the engine
is stopped will damage the S tronic trans ­
mission because it is not lubricated

@ Tips
For safety reasons, the parking brake is re­
leased automatically only when the driver's
safety belt is engaged in the buckle.
Hill descent control
The hill descent control system assists the driver
when driving down hills .
Hill descent control is ac tivated when the selec­
tor lever is in the Dor S position and you press
the brake pedal. The transmission automatically
selects a gear that is suitable for the hill. Hill de­
scent control tries to maintain the speed ach­
ieved at the time of braking, within physical and
technical limitations.
If may still be necessary to
adjust the speed with the brakes. Because hill de ­
scent control cannot shift down farther than 3rd
gear, it may be necessary to shift into tiptronic
mode in very steep areas. In this case, shift man­
ually into 1st or 2nd gear in tiptronic mode to
use the engine's braking force to relieve the
brakes .
Hill descent control switches off once the hill lev­
els out or you press the accelerator pedal.
On vehicles with a cruise control system*
¢ page 70, hill descent control is also activated
when the speed is set.
A WARNING
Hill descent control cannot overcome physical
limitations, so it may not be able to maintain
a constant speed under all conditions. Always
be ready to apply the brakes.

Shifting manually (tiptronic mode)
The tiptronic allows the driver to shift the gears
manually .

Shifting with the selector lever
You can shift into tiptronic mode while stationary
and whi le driving.

lever from the D/S setting to the right in the
tiptronic shift gate. Once the transmission has
sw itched modes, the selector lever position

Driving
-When acce lerating using the launch control
program, all vehicle parts are subject to
heavy loads . Th is can lead to increased
wear.
Emergency mode
In the event of a system malfunction, there is on
emergency program.
If all of the se lecto r lever posit ions are h ighlight­
ed wit h a light background in the Infotainment
d isp lay, there is a system malfunction and the S
tron ic transmiss ion is running in the emergency
program . The vehicle can still be driven in emer­
gency mode, but only with reduced speed and not in a ll gears . In some cases, the vehicle
can­
not drive in rever se.

If the transmission runs in emergency mode,
drive to an aut ho rized Aud i deale r or a uthor­
ized Aud i Service Fac ility immediately to have
the malfunction corrected.
Transmission malfunction
• Tran smis sion: malfun ction! Please stop ve­

There is a malfunc tion in the transmiss ion. Pa rk
the vehicle se curely and do not continue driving.

• Transmission: too hot . Please stop vehicle
The transm ission is too hot and can become dam­
aged . Stop and let the transm ission cool with the
engine run ning (at id le) in t he P selector leve r po­

t hor ized Audi Se rvice Facility immed iate ly to have
the ma lfunction co rrected . If the ind icator light
and the driver message do not turn off, do not

Assist
Electronic speed Limiter
Your vehicle may be factory equipped with tires
that are rated for a maximum speed of 130 mph (210 km/h). This is less than the maximum speed
of your vehicle. To reduce the risk of sudden tire
failure and loss of control if the vehicle is operat­
ed at excessive speeds, your vehicle also has an
electronic speed limiter. The electronic speed
lim iter prevents your vehicle from going faster
than the t ire speed rating. For mo re information
~page 262.
If the engine control unit receives faulty vehicle
road speed signals, the Malfunction Indicator
L amp (MIL)

assistance.
_& WARNING
Always observe the posted speed limits and
adjust you r speed to suit prevailing road, traf­
fic and weather conditions. Never drive your
vehicle faster than the maximum speed rating
of the tires installed.
Speed warning system
Applies to: vehicles with speed warning system
The speed warning system helps you to stay be­
low a specified maximum speed that can be set,
changed or deleted in the Infotainment system . -
The speed warning
system warns you if you are
exceeding the maximum speed that you have set.
A warni ng tone will sound as soon as you r speed
exceeds the sto red value s lightly. The

Se tting a threshold is rec om mended if you would
like to be reminded when yo u reach a certa in
maximum speed . Situations where you may want
to do so include driving in a country w it h a ge ne r-

al speed limit or if there is a spec ified maximum
speed for winter tires.

Cruise control system
Switching on
Applies to: vehicles with cruise control system
The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed starting at 15 mph
(20kmlh).

The speed is maintained by modifying engine
power or through an active brake intervention.

You should only resume the stored speed if it
is not too high for existing traffic conditions.
Otherwise you can increase the r isk of an acci­
dent .
Audi active Lane assist
Description
Appl ie s to: ve hicles w ith Audi ac tive lane assis t
Active lane assist detects lane marker lines with­
in the limits of the system using a camera in the
windshield. If you are approaching a detected
lane marker line and it appears likely that you
will leave the lane, the system will warn you with
correct ive steering. You can override th is steer ing
at any time . If you pass over a line, the steer ing
wheel will v ibrate l ightly. In order for this warn­
ing vibration to occur, it must first be sw itched
on in the Infotainment system. Active lane assist
is ready for operation when the lane marker line
is detected on at least one side of the vehicle.
The system is designed for driving on express ­
ways and highways and so it only activates at
speeds above approximately 40 mph (65 km/h) (depending on the market).
Applies to vehicles w ith side assist* : if you act i­
vate a turn signal when active lane assist is ready
and it classifies a lane change as critical because
of vehicles traveling alongside you or approach­
ing you, there w ill be noticeable corrective steer­
ing shortly before you leave the lane. This will at­
tempt to keep your vehicle in the lane.
Applies to vehicles without side assist* : the sys­
tem does not warn when it is ready if you activate
the turn signal before crossing the lane marker line . In this case, it assumes that you are chang­
ing lanes intentionally .
& WARNING
-The system wa rns the driver that the veh icle
is leav ing the lane using co rrective s teer ing.

The driver is always responsible for keeping
the vehicle within the lane.
- The system can assist the driver in keeping
the vehicle in the lane, but it does not drive
by itself. A lways keep your hands on the
steer ing wheel.
- Corrective steering may not occur in certain situations, such as during heavy braking.
- There may be cases where the camera does
not recognize all lane marker lines. Correc­
tive steering can only take place on the s ide
of the vehicle where lane marker lines are
detected .
- Other road structures or objects could poss i­
bly be identified un intent ionally as lane
marker lines . As a result, corrective steering
may be unexpected o r may not occ ur.
- The camera view can be restricted, for ex­
ample by vehicles driving ahead or by ra in,
snow, heavy spray light shin ing into the
camera or by dirt o n the window. This can
result in active lane assist not detecting the
lane marker lines or detecting them incor ­
rectly.
- In certain s ituations where visibility is low,
the vehicle may switch internally from "ear­
ly" to "late" steering cor rection
ll.
- Unde r certain cond itions such as r uts in the
road, an inclined roadway or crosswinds, the
corrective steer ing alone may not be enough
to keep the vehicle in the m iddle of the lane.
- For safety reasons, active lane assist must
not be used when there are poor road and/
or weather conditions such as slippery
roads, fog, gravel, heavy rain, snow and the potential for hydroplaning . Using active lane
assist under these cond it ions may increase
the risk of a crash.

Indicator lights
• Rea dy :
the indicator light turns on when the
system is ready for use. The system can now be
operated .
• Not read y: the indicator light turns on if the
system is switched on but is inoperab le. Th is may
be due to the following reasons:
- There is no lane marker line.
- T he relevant lane marker lines are not detected
(for example, mark ings in a construction zone
or because they are obstructed by snow, dirt,
water or lighting).
- The vehicle speed is below the activation speed
of approximately 40 mph (65 km/h) (the speed
may vary depending on your country).
- The lane is too narrow or too wide.
- T he curve is too narrow.
- The driver's hands are not on the steering
wheel.
