Driving - The transmission can overheat and be dam­
aged under certain driving and traffic condi­
tions such as frequent starts, creeping for a
long time, or stop -and-go traffic. When the
@] or. indicator light turns on, stop the
vehicle at the next opportunity and let the
transmission cool

-Allowing the vehicle to roll when the engine
is stopped will damage the S tronic trans ­
mission because it is not lubricated

@ Tips
For safety reasons, the parking brake is re­
leased automatically only when the driver's
safety belt is engaged in the buckle.
Hill descent control
The hill descent control system assists the driver
when driving down hills .
Hill descent control is ac tivated when the selec­
tor lever is in the Dor S position and you press
the brake pedal. The transmission automatically
selects a gear that is suitable for the hill. Hill de­
scent control tries to maintain the speed ach­
ieved at the time of braking, within physical and
technical limitations.
If may still be necessary to
adjust the speed with the brakes. Because hill de ­
scent control cannot shift down farther than 3rd
gear, it may be necessary to shift into tiptronic
mode in very steep areas. In this case, shift man­
ually into 1st or 2nd gear in tiptronic mode to
use the engine's braking force to relieve the
brakes .
Hill descent control switches off once the hill lev­
els out or you press the accelerator pedal.
On vehicles with a cruise control system*
¢ page 70, hill descent control is also activated
when the speed is set.
A WARNING
Hill descent control cannot overcome physical
limitations, so it may not be able to maintain
a constant speed under all conditions. Always
be ready to apply the brakes.

Shifting manually (tiptronic mode)
The tiptronic allows the driver to shift the gears
manually .

Shifting with the selector lever
You can shift into tiptronic mode while stationary
and whi le driving.
.,. To shift into tiptronic mode, push the selector
lever from the D/S setting to the right in the
tiptronic shift gate. Once the transmission has
sw itched modes, the selector lever position

If the sh ift paddles are tapped while in the D/S
selecto r lever posit io n, automatic mode switches
off briefly . To switch from manually shifting back
to a utomatic shifting immediately, tap the shift

To keep shifting using the shift paddles, move
the sele ctor lever to the right out of the D/S posi­
tion into the t ipt ronic shift gate.
The transm ission automatically shifts up o r down
befo re critical engine speed is reached.
The transm ission only a llows manual sh ift ing
when the engine speed is within the permitted
range.
(D Tips
- If you sh ift to the next lowest gear, the
transm ission w ill only shift if the engine w ill
not be over-revved.
- With kick-down, the transmission shifts to a
l ower gear, depending on vehicle speed and
engine speed.
- tiptronic does not wo rk if the t ransmiss ion
i s r unning in emergency mode.
Kick-down
Kick-down enables maximum acceleration.
When you press the accelerator pedal down be­
yond the resistance point , the automatic trans ­
m iss ion downshifts into a lower gear and the en­
g ine utilizes its fu ll power , depend ing on veh icle
speed and engine R PM.
It shifts up into t he next
h igher gea r once the maximum spec ified engine
RP M is reached.
A WARNING
Please note that the wheels could spin on
slick or slippery roads when kick-down is ac­
tive.

D riv ing
Launch Control-Program
The Launch Control Program enables maximum
acceleration .
Requirement: the engine must be at operating
temperature and the steering wheel must not be
turned .
~ With the engine running, press the l1' 0FF I but­
ton briefly one t ime

~ Pull the selector lever back out of the D/S posi­
tion briefly to select the S position, or press it
toward the r ight into the tiptron ic position or
select the
Dynamic dr iving mode in dr ive se­
lect* ¢
page 79.
~ Press the brake pedal fi rm ly w ith your left foo t
and hold it all the way down for at least 1 sec ­
ond.
~ At the same time, p ress the gas peda l all the
way down with your right foot until the eng ine
reaches and stays at a high RPM level.
~ Remove your left foot from the brake.
A WARNING
- Always adapt your driving to the t raff ic flow.
- Only use Launch Control when road and traf-
f ic conditions allow it and other drivers will
not be endange red or impacted by your dr iv­
ing and the vehicle's acceleration.
- Please note that the d rive wheels can spin
and the vehicle can b reak away when spo rt
mode is switched on, especially when the
road is slippery.
- Once the vehicle has started mov ing, press
the
! .P-O FF I button briefly to turn the spo rt
mode off.
(D Tips
- The transmission temperature may increase
significant ly after using the launch control
prog ram. If that happens, the prog ram may
no t be ava ilable for a few minutes.

Driving
-When acce lerating using the launch control
program, all vehicle parts are subject to
heavy loads . Th is can lead to increased
wear.
Emergency mode
In the event of a system malfunction, there is on
emergency program.
If all of the se lecto r lever posit ions are h ighlight­
ed wit h a light background in the Infotainment
d isp lay, there is a system malfunction and the S
tron ic transmiss ion is running in the emergency
program . The vehicle can still be driven in emer­
gency mode, but only with reduced speed and not in a ll gears . In some cases, the vehicle
can­
not drive in rever se.
(D Note
If the transmission runs in emergency mode,
drive to an aut ho rized Aud i deale r or a uthor­
ized Aud i Service Fac ility immediately to have
the malfunction corrected.
Transmission malfunction

There is a malfunc tion in the transmiss ion. Pa rk
the vehicle se curely and do not continue driving.

The transm ission is too hot and can become dam­
aged . Stop and let the transm ission cool with the
engine run ning (at id le) in t he P selector leve r po­

tur n off, drive to an a uthorized Aud i dea le r or au­
t hor ized Audi Se rvice Facility immed iate ly to have
the ma lfunction co rrected . If the ind icator light
and the driver message do not turn off, do not

The display brightness adjusts automatically to
the brightness of the surroundings, both in the information and in the warning stage. In very
dark or very bright surroundings, the automatic
adjustment will set the display to the minimum
or maximum level. In such cases, you may notice no change when adjusting the brightness, or the
change may only be noticeable once the sur­ roundings change.
Adjust the brightness to a level where the display in the information stage will not disrupt your
view ahead .
If you change the brightness, the dis­
play in the exter ior mirror will briefly show the
brightness level in the information stage. The
brightness of the warning stage is linked to the
brightness in the information stage and is adjust­
ed along with the information stage.
(D Tips
- Side assist is not active while you are ma k­
ing the adjustment.
- Your settings are automatically stored and
assigned to the remote control key being
used.
Messages

If the side assist switches off automatically, a
message appears in the Infotainment system dis­

Audi drive select (drive
settings)
Introduction
Applies to : vehicles with Audi drive se lect
Drive select makes it possible to experience dif­
ferent types of vehicle sett ings in one veh icle .
The driver can select from three modes,
Comfort,
Auto
and Dynamic , using the ~t.~, button in the
center console or by using the Infotainment sys­
tem. This allows you to switch between a sporty
and a comfortable driving mode, for example. In
the
Individual mode, the settings can be adjust­
ed to your persona l preferences . This makes it
possible to combine settings such as a sporty en­
gine setting with light steering.
A WARNING

Using Audi drive select incorrectly can lead to
collis ions, other accidents and serious inju­
ries .
Description
Applies to: vehicles with Audi drive se lect
The vehicle setup in each mode depends on the
vehicle's features. However, the engine and
steering are always affected .
Engine and automatic transmission
Depending on the mode, the engine and auto­
matic transmission respond more quickly or in a
more ba lanced manner to accelerator pedal
movements.
Adaptive dampers (Audi magnetic ride)*
The adaptive dampers use sensors to record in­
formation regarding steering movements, brak­
ing and acceleration ope rations by the driver,

Emergency assistance
_& WARNING
You or your passengers could be injured while
changing a wheel if you do not follow these
safety precautions :
- If you have a flat tire, move a safe distance
off the road. Turn off the engine, turn the
emergency flashers on and use other warn­
ing devices to alert other motorists.
- Make sure that passengers wait in a safe
place away from the vehicle and well away
from the road and traffic.
- To help prevent the vehicle from moving
suddenly and possibly slipp ing off the jack,
always fully set the parking brake and block
the wheel diagona lly opposite the wheel be­
ing changed . When one front wheel is lifted
off the ground, placing the Automatic
Transmission in P (Park) will
not prevent the
vehicle from moving.
- Before you change a wheel, be sure the
ground is level and firm. If necessary, use a
sturdy board under the jack.
- Always store the vehicle tool kit, the jack
and the replaced tire in the luggage com­
partment

.. Slide the wheel wrench (from the vehicle tool
kit) all the way onto the wheel bolt .
.,. Turn the wheel bolt approximately one turn to
the left -arrow- . To reach the required torque,
hold the end of the wheel w rench. If the wheel
bolt will not loosen, press carefu lly on the
wheel wrenc h with your foot. Hold on to the ve­
hicle securely while during this and make sure
your stance is stable.
&_ WARNING
To reduce the risk of an accident, only loosen
the wheel bolts gently (one turn) before rais­
ing the vehicle with the vehicle jack* .

Emergency situations
General
This chapter is intended for trained emergency crews and working personnel who have the nec­
essary tools and equipment to perform these
operations.
Starting by pushing or
towing
CD Note
Vehicles with an automatic transmission can­
not be started by pushing or towing.
Starting with jumper
cables
If necessary, the engine con be started by con­
necting it to the battery of another vehicle .
If the engine should fail to start because of a dis­
charged or weak battery, the battery can be con­
nected to the battery of
another vehicle, using a
pair of jumper cables to start the engine.
Jumper cables
Use only jumper cables of sufficiently large cross
section
to carry the starter current safely. Refer
to the manufacturer's specifications.
Use only jumper cables with
insulated terminal
clamps which are distinctly marked :
plus(+) cable in most cases colored red
minus(-) cable
in most cases colored black .
A WARNING
Batteries contain electricity, acid, and gas.
Any of these can cause very serious or fatal in­
jury. Follow the instructions below for safe hand Ling of your vehicle's battery .
-Always shield your eyes and avoid leaning
over the battery whenever possible.
-A discharged battery can freeze at tempera­
tures just below 32 °F (0 °C). Before con­
necting a jumper cable, you must thaw the

frozen battery completely, otherwise it could explode .
- Do not allow battery acid to contact eyes or
skin. Flush any contacted area with water immediately.
- Improper use of a booster battery to start a
vehicle may cause an explosion.
- Vehicle batteries generate explosive gases.
Keep sparks, flame and lighted cigarettes
away from batteries.
- Do not try to jump start any vehicle with a
low acid level in the battery .
- The voltage of the booster battery must also
have a 12-volt rating. The capacity (Ah) of
the booster battery should not be lower
than that of the discharged battery. Use of
batteries of different voltage or substantial­
ly different "Ah" rating may cause an explo­
sion and personal injury .
- Never charge a frozen battery. Gas trapped in the ice may cause an explosion .
- Never charge or use a battery that has been
frozen . The battery case may have be weak­
ened .
- Use of batteries of different voltage or sub­ stantially different capacity (Ah) rating may
cause an explosion and injury. The capacity
(Ah) of the booster battery should not be
lower than that of the discharged battery.
- Before you check anything in the engine
compartment, always read and heed all
WARNINGS
~page 244.

-Applying a higher voltage booster battery
will cause expensive damage to sensitive
electronic components, such as control
units, relays, radio, etc.
- There must be no electrical contact between
the vehicles as otherwise current could al­
ready start to flow as soon as the positive
(+) terminals are connected.

The discharged battery must be properly con-
