Clear vision
Applies to ve hicles: wit h digita l compass
Calibrating the compass
The compass has to be recalibrated if the display is wrong
or inaccurate.
- Hold the@ button down until the letter C is displayed on
the interior rear view mirror.
- Drive in a circle at a speed of about 5 mph (10 km/h) until
a direction is shown on the interior rear view mirror.
& WARNING
The digital compass is to be used as a directional aid only. Even
though you may want to look at it while you are driving, you must
still pay attention to traffic, road and weather conditions as well
as other possible hazards. •

- Make sure that all lights and signals are operating
correctly.
- Make sure that the tire pressure is correct.
- Make sure that all windows are clean and afford good
visibility to the outside.
- Secure all luggage and other items carefully =>
page 95.
-Make sure that nothing can interfere with the pedals.
- Adjust front seat, head restraint and mirrors correctly for
your height.
- Instruct passengers to adjust the head restraints
according to their height.
- Make sure to use the right child restraint correctly to
protect children =>
page 168, "Child Safety".
- Sit properly in your seat and make sure that your passen­
gers do the same=>
page 87, "General recommenda­
tions".
- Fasten your safety belt and wear it properly. Also instruct
your passengers to fasten their safety belts properly

What impairs driving safety?
Safe driving is directly related to the condition of the
vehicle, the driver as well as the driver's ability to concen­
trate on the road without being distracted.
The driver is responsible for the safety of the vehicle and all
of its occupants. If your ability to drive is impaired, safety risks for everybody in the vehicle increase and you also

fore:
- Do not let yourself be distracted by passengers or by
using a cellular telephone.
- NEVER drive when your driving ability is impaired (by
medications, alcohol, drugs, etc .).
- Observe all traffic laws, rules of the road and speed limits
and plain common sense.
- ALWAYS adjust your speed to road, traffic and weather
conditions.
- Take frequent breaks on long trips. Do not drive for more
than two hours at a stretch.
- Do NOT drive when you are tired, under pressure or when
you are stressed.

Aluminum trim
Use only neutr al- pH products to remove spots and deposits from
a lum inum surfaces . Chrome care products and alka line cleaners
wi ll attack aluminum surfaces and can damage them over time.

Touch -up paint
Min or paint damages should be touched up immediately.
- Use e ither a touch -up pa int stick or spray paint to cover
m ino r scratches and nicks.
Your Audi dealer has touch -up paint for minor scra tches and stone
chips. Scratches shou ld be touched up soon after they occur to
prevent corrosion .

Windows
Clear vision to all sides .
Clean a ll windows regu lar ly to remove road film and
ca rwas h wax bu ildup.
Remove snow f rom windows us ing a b rush .
- Use a plastic ice sc rape r to rem ove ice from windows a nd
m irr ors .
- Rem ove o ther res idue on the wind ows with a spray-o n
glass clea ner.
Wipe the windows dry with a c lean piece of cloth or
kitchen p aper towel.
The best way to remove snow from windows and mirrors is to use a
brush . Use a non -abrasive
plastic ice s craper -better still, a spray
deicer -to remove
ic e from windows and mirrors .
The windows must not be c leaned with insect remover or wax since
these can interfere with the function of the windshield wiper b lades
(chatter).
Oil, grease or silicone residue can be removed w ith
glas s cle ane r or
sil ic one remo ver . However, wax residue requires the use of a
specially formulated so lvent . Please contact your Audi dealer for
advice on safe products for wax removal.
Windows should also be cleaned on the ins ide at regular intervals . ..,_

Never dry windows with the same chamois that you use to dry
painted s urfaces. Wax residue on the chamois can impair vision
through the windows .
& WARNING
• The windshield must not be treated with water-rep ellent mate­
r ial s. They can increa se glare under poor visibility conditions such
a s w etne ss, darkne ss, or when th e sun i s lo w on th e hori zon. In
addition , they can c ause the wind shield wipers to chatter .

• Never use warm or hot wa ter to remove snow and ice from
windows and mirrors. This could cause the glass to crack.
• To prevent damage to t he w ires of the rear defogger, do not p lace
any adhesive stickers on the inside of the rear window over the
wires.
• To he lp prevent dirt from scratching the w indow, always scrape
in a forward direction - pushing the scraper away from you -never
back and forth .•
Weatherstrips
C omplete car care includes the weatherstrips as well.
- App ly a suitable rubber co nditioner to the weat herstr ips
f rom t ime to t ime .
To be able sea l properly, the weatherstrips around the hood, doors,
rear lid, etc. must remain pliable . Spray the weath erstrips with si li­
cone or coat them w ith ta lcum powder or glycerine to retain the
flexibili ty of the rubber and to protect them against free zing in the
winter .

Steel wheels
The wheels also have to be cleaned.
Always include the hub caps and wheel rims when
washing your vehicle to remove road dirt, sal t sprays and
brake dust.
If necessary, use a commercial wheel cleaner to remove accumu ­
l ated brake dust.
The wheel rims are eas ier to keep clean i f they are regularly coated
wi th liquid wax .
Paint scratches should be touc hed u p as soon as possible to prevent
corrosion=>
