BRAKE/ (CD) Brake system
This warning/indicator light illuminates when
the brake fluid level is too low or when there
is a malfunction in the ABS, or when the park­
ing brake is set.
If the - (USA models)/ . (Canada
models) symbo l flashes in the disp lay with the
parking brake released, there is a malfunction
in the brake system. In addition to the sym­
bol, one of two messages appears in the dis ­
play:
Stop vehicle and check brake fluid level
Stabilization program and ABS fault! See
Owner's manual
.,. Pull off the road and stop the vehicle.
.,. Obtain p rofessional assistance.

The ligh t 1111 (USA)/ . (Canada) illumi­
nates when the ignit ion is tu rned on. I t goes
out after the engine has been started and the
parking brake is fully released. This indicates
that the brake warning lig ht is funct ion ing
properly.
If the brake warn ing light doe s not light up
w hen the engin e is cr anking o r the p arking
br ak e is applied, th ere m ay be a malfun ction
in th e electrical syste m. In thi s cas e, conta ct
y ou r A udi dealer .

Parking brake set
The parking brake warning light_ /_
(Canada models) illuminates when the park­
ing brake is set. In addition, a warning tone
will sound after you have driven for longer
than 3 seconds and faster than 3 mph (5 km/
h).

- Driv ing with low brake fluid is a safety
hazard! Stop the car and get professional
assistance. -
USA models: If both, the
1111 warning
light and the
E warn ing light come
on at the same time, the rear wheels
could lock up first under hard braking.
Lock-up of the rear wheel brakes can
cause loss of vehicle contro l and an acci­
dent. Have your veh icle repa ired immedi­
ately by your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified workshop . Drive s low ly and
avoid sudden, hard brake application.
- Canada models:
If both, the b rake warn­
ing light . and the ABS warning light
EiJ come on at the same time, the rear
wheels could lock up f irst under hard
brak ing. Lock-up of the rear wheel brakes
can cause loss of veh icle control and an
accident. Have your vehicle repaired im­
mediately by your author ized Audi dealer
or a qualified wo rkshop. Drive slowly and
avoid sudden, hard brake application.
- If the b rake warning/ind icator light does
not go out after a few seconds and the
pa rking brake is re leased, or lights up
while you are dr iving, the flu id leve l in
the brake fl uid reservo ir is too low . If you
believe that it is safe to do so, proceed
immediate ly at low speed to the nea rest
author ized Audi dealer or qualif ied work­
shop and have the brake system inspect­
ed.
-Always keep in mind that after severa l
brake applications, you will need greater
pressure on the brake pedal to stop your
veh icle. Do not rely on strained brakes to
respond with maximum stopping powe r
i n critical s ituations. You must allow for
increased b raking dis tances. The extra
distance used up by fading bra kes could
lead to an accident.
tli1 !.!r Safety systems
The I ( U SA models) . (Canada mode ls) in­
dicator light monitors the safety systems e.g.
(airbags, pretensioners) and i lluminates for a
few seconds each time you switch the ignitio n
o n.

A malfunction in the engine cooling system
must be repaired as soon as possible .
When the. symbol in the display flashes,
then either the eng ine coolant
temperature is
too h igh, or the coolant
level is too low . In ad­
d ition to the symbol, the fo llowing message
a lso appears in the display:

If the engine coolant level is correct, then the
radiato r fan may be the cause of the malfunc­
tion .
If the generator warning/ind icator light

A WARNING
-If your veh icle should break down for
mechanical or other reasons, park at a
sa fe distance from moving traffic, turn
off the engine and turn on the hazard

- Never open the hood if you see or hear
steam or coolant escaping from the en­
gine compartment - you risk being scald­
ed . Wait until you can no longer see or
hear steam or coolant escaping . -
The engine compartment of any vehicle
is a dangerous area . Before you perform
any work in the engine compartment,
turn off the eng ine and allow it to cool.
Follow the warn ing stickers .
(D Note
Do not continue dr iv ing if the . symbol
ill uminates. There is a malfunction in the
engine cooling system -you could damage
your engine .
~ Electro-mechanical power assist
If the indicato r light illum inates while you are
driv ing , there is a malfunction in the electro­
mecha nica l steering. If the indi cator light is
showing
'".[-1. there may be a reduction in pow ­
er steering assist. If the indicator light is
showing ., ther e may be a tota l loss of pow ­
er steering assist. The stee ring must be in­
spected immed iately by a qualified workshop
¢ .&. .With the eng ine not running (e.g . when
the car is being towed), there is also no power
ass ist available .
A WARNING
-
If there is a ma lfunction, the indicato r
l ight for the electro-mechanical power as­
sist il l uminates. Seek pro fessional assis­
tance.
~ Convertible top
The warning/indicator light monitors the con­
vertible top function .
The !I warning/ indicator light illumi nates
when you switch on the ignition for about 2 seconds as a check and then goes out. The
warning/indicator ligh t has the following
functions :
- The light illumi nates when the foldi ng top
opens or closes.
- I t flashes if one of the cond it ions for auto­
mat ically lower ing or ra is ing the convertible
top is no t met and the switch to actuate the
convertible top is pressed . .,..

Total -trip memory (Trip computer 2)
Unlike the sing le-trip memory, the total-trip
memory is not reset automatically. This per­
mits you to evaluate your dr iving data for the
entire period between manual resets.

The t rip computer only operates when the ig­
nition is on. When you turn on the ignition,
the function that was in use when you last
turned the ignition off will be displayed .

cle battery is disconnected .
- The driving information in the efficiency

A WARNING
This is how you can reduce the risk of in­
jury when leaving your veh icle.
- Never park the vehicle where it can come
in contact with dry grass, spilled fuel or
any other flammable mater ials.
- Never allow anyone -especia lly small
children -to remain in the vehicle when
it is locked. Locked doors make it more
difficult for rescuers to access the pas­
senger compartment in the event of an
eme rgency. Danger to life!
- Never leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle . Children could re lease the park­
ing brake o r move the gea rshift lever out
of gear. The vehicle could start to roll
away and ca use an accident.
- N o matter wha t the season is, the tem­
perature in a par ked vehicle can rea ch
dangero us levels .
Starting on hills
Applies to vehicles: wit h hill h old ass ist

The system is act ivated when the brake pedal
i s depressed
for a few s econds .
After releasing the brake pedal, the brake
power is held for a brief moment to prevent
the vehicle from rolling back when start ing . At
th is time, you can easi ly beg in to move your
vehicle.
A WARNING
-- If you did not begin moving immed iate ly
after releasing the brake pedal, under
c e rtain ci rcumstances, the vehicle would
begin to ro ll backwa rd. Depr ess the
b rake ped al immedi ately o r engage the
hand brake .
- Should t he e ngine sta ll, dep ress the
b ra ke ped al immediate ly or eng age the
hand b rake .
- I n or der to prevent the vehicle from roll­
ing back unintentionally when s tarti ng in
s top -and-go traffic, keep the brake pedal
depressed for a few seconds before driv­
ing off.

Speed warning system
Overview
The speed warning system helps you to keep
your driving speed below a set speed limit.
The speed warn ing system warns the driver if
he exceeds a previous ly stored max imum
speed . A warning tone will sound as soon as
the ve hicle speed exceeds the set speed by
about 3 mph (3 km/h). At the same time, a
warning symbo l appea rs in the display.
The speed warn ing system has
two warning

each other and that have somewhat different
purposes:

You can use speed warning 1 to set the maxi­ mum speed while you are driving . This setting
will remain in effect unti l yo u tur n off the ..,.

Audi magnetic ride
Applies to vehicles: with magnetic ride
Damping can be adjusted to the driver's pref­
erence and it adapts automatically to the cur­
rent driving situation.

Aud i magnetic ride is an electronically con­
trolled damping system. This chassis system
assists the driver by adapting to the particular
situation through imperceptible control proc­
esses. The
damping provides individual modu­
lation of damping forces. For example, with
damping characteristics set to provide greater
comfort, damping is set somewhat harder for
a brief period only as required, when rounding
a curve and when braking.
Standard setting
Select the standard setting if you prefer a sus­
pension setting emphasizing comfort.
Sport setting
Select the sport setting if you prefer a sporty
suspe nsion setting . The LED in the switch

comes on to indicate sport setting.
@ Tips
The warning/indicator light 8 in the instru­
ment cluster comes on in the event of a
malfunction .
Drive to the closest author­
ized Audi dealer as soon as possible and
have the malfunction repaired.
Sport mode
Applies to vehicles: with Sport button

A more agile and sporty driving style is possi­
ble when driving the vehicle in "sport mode".
T his mode affects throttle response and the
sound of the engine and the damping charac ­
teristics of the Audi magnetic ride for dynamic
suspension tuning .
@ Tips
If there is a malfunction in the retractable
rear spoiler* or the Audi magnetic ride*, it
may not be poss ible to activate sport
mode.
Acoustic parking system
Rear acoustic park assist
Applies to vehicles: with 4-channel acoustic park assist
Acoustic park assist gives a warning about
obstacles behind the vehicle.
Description
T he rear acoustic park ass ist (4-channel
acoustic park assist) determines the distance
of the vehicle from an obstacle using ultra­
son ic sensors. The sensors are in the rear
bumper. The volume and the pitch of the

chimes can be adjusted through the menu dis­play ~
page 24.
The range at which the sensors start to meas­
ure is
about :
To the side 2 feet (0.60 m)
Center rear
5 feet (1.60 m)
Activation
The parking assist is activated when reverse
gear
is engaged. A brief tone confirms that
the system is activated .
Backing up
Distance warning when backing up starts
when an obstacle is detected in the range of
the park assist system. As the distance de­
creases, the time interval between the audible
tones becomes shorter.
When the distance is less than 1 foot (0 .30
m), the tone becomes continuous . At this
point you should stop backing up.
Please note that low objects already signalled
by a warning can disappear from the system's
detection range and will not continue to be
signalled.
Potential malfunctions
If a war ning buzzer sounds for a few seconds
when the ignition is switched on, there is a
system malfunction with the acoustic park as­
sist . If the malfunction persists until the igni­
tion is switched off, there will be no acoustic
warning at the next attempt to activate the
system. Have the problem corrected.
There is no confirmation tone when reverse
gear is engaged if there is a system malfunc­
tion .
For the parking assist to operate, the sensors
must be kept clean and free of ice .
.8, WARNING
- Sensors have blind spots in which objects
cannot be detected . Pay special attention
to small children and animals. They can-

not always be detected by the sensors -
danger of an accident!
- The parking assist cannot replace the
driver's attention. The driver alone is re­
sponsible for parking and similar driving
maneuvers. Always watch where you are
driving .
(D Note
Low obstacles already signalled by a warn­
ing can disappear from the system's detec­
tion range as they are approached and will
not continue to be signalled. Objects such
as barrier chains, trailer draw bars, thin painted vertical poles, or fences may not
be detected by the system -risk of dam­
age.
(D Tips
For the parking assist to operate, the sen­
sors must be kept clean and free of snow
and ice.

_& WARNING
-Always adapt your driving to the traffic
flow.
- Only use Launch Control when road and
traffic conditions allow it and other driv­
ers will not be endangered or annoyed by
your driving and the acceleration of the
vehicle .
- Make sure that ESC remains enabled .
With the ESC disabled, the veh icle could
brake away, particularly on a slick and
slippery road -risk of skidding!
- Once acce lerat ion is finished, switch ASR
on again by briefly pushing the ESC but­
ton.
@ Tips
- The transm ission temperature may in­
crease significantly after using the
Launch Control Program. If that hap­
pens, the program may not be available
for a few minutes. I t will be availab le
again after a coo l-down period.
- When accelerating using the Launch
Control program, all vehicle parts are
subject to heavy loads . This can result in
increased wear.
Back-up program
Applies to vehicles: with S tronic
In the event of a system malfunction, there is
a back-up program.
I n the event of system mal func tion, the auto­
matic transmission switches to the fail-safe
mode. A ll of the selector lever position dis­
plays for the automatic transmission are high­
lighted with a light background in the instru­
ment cluster display . In some cases you can­
not use reverse gear any more .
If the transmission switches to fail-safe mode, you should take the vehicle to an au­
thorized Audi dealership as soon as possible
to have the condition corrected.

Clutch is overheating
Applies to vehicles: with S tronic
• Clutch is overheating! Please stop vehi­
cle!
If the symbols are illuminated, the clutch is
overheating and could be damaged if you con­
tinue to drive. Stop the vehicle and a llow the
transmission to cool with the se lector lever in
the P posit ion while the engine runs at idle.
If
the warning does not turn off, do not continue
driving. See your authorized A udi dealer or
qualified repair facility for assistance. Other­
wise serious transmission damage could re­
sult. Once the indicator light has turned off,
drive to your authorized Audi dealer or quali ­
fied repa ir facility immed iately to have the
malfunction corrected.
Selector lever emergency release
Applies to vehicles: wi th S tronic
If the vehicle's power supply fails, the selec ­
tor lever can be released in an emergency.
