observe the following notes about the tempera­
ture ranges.
Cold rang e
If o nly the L EDs in the left area of the gauge turn
on, the engine has not reached operating tem­
perature yet. Avoid high engine speeds, full ac­
celerating and heavy engine loads .
Normal range
The engine has reached its operating tempera­
ture once the LEDs up to the center of the gauge
turn on . If the . indicator light in the Infotain­
ment system display turns on, the coolant tem­
perature is too high

-Aux iliary head lights and other accessories in
front of the coo ling-a ir intake impa ir the
cooling effect o f the coolant. This increases
the risk of the engine overheating during high outside temperatures and heavy en ­
gine load.
- T he front spoiler a lso helps to distribute
cooling air correctly while driving . If the
spoiler is damaged, the cooling effect will
be impaired and the risk of the eng ine over­
heating w ill increase. See an authorized
Audi dealer or author ized Audi Service Fa­
cility for assistance .
Fuel level
The indicator @ only func tions when the ignition
i s sw itched on. If the fuel level drops below 1.9

L), a red LED wi ll light up and the rD indi­
cator light will turn on

blinks red when the fuel level is very low.

appears, see an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility immediately to
have the malfunction corrected .
- If the indicator light and message appear
while
driving,
the hill start assist or emergency brak­
ing function may be malfunctioning. It may not
be possible to set the parking brake or release
it once it has been set. Do not park your vehicle
on hills. See an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility for assistance.

lights turn on together, have the brake system
checked immediately by an authorized Audi deal­
er or authorized Audi Service Facility

There is also a warning tone when the lights turn
on.

A WARNING
- Read and follow the warnings in
¢ page 235, Working in the engine com­
partment
before opening the hood and
checking the brake fluid level.
- If the brake system indicator light does not
turn off or it turns on while driving, the
brake fluid level in the reservoir is too low,
and this increases the risk of an accident.
Stop the vehicle and do not continue driv­
ing. See an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility for assistance.
- If the brake system indicator light turns on
together with the ABS and ESC indicator
lights, the ABS/ESC regulating function may
be malfunctioning. Functions that stabilize
the vehicle are no longer available. This
could cause the rear of the vehicle to
swerve, which increases the risk that the ve­
hicle will slide . Drive carefully to the nearest
authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi
Service Facility and have the malfunction
corrected.
PARK /(®)/¢), Electromechanical parking
brake
If the -(USA models)/ . (Canada models)
indicator light turns on, the parking brake was
set.

ing brake: caution! Vehicle parked too steep
If the indicator light blinks and the message ap­
pears, there is not enough braking power to se­
cure the vehicle. The brakes have overheated. The
vehicle could roll away even on a small incline.

- Never ope n the hood if you can see or hea r
steam or coo lant escaping from the engine
compartment. This increases the risk of
burns. Wait until you no longer see or hear
steam or coolant escaping.
- The engine compartment in any vehicle can
be a dangerous area. Stop the engine and
allow it to cool before working in the engine
compartment . Always follow the informa­
tion found in
Q page 235, Working in the
engine compartment .

• Electric system: malfunction! Battery is not
being charged
There is a malfunction in the alternator or the ve ­
h icle elect rical system.

servo possible
There is a malfunction in the eng ine o r in the fue l
supp ly sys tem .
Mo re force is needed to steer and bra ke the mov­
in g vehicle when t he engine is stopped. If the ve­
hi cle is roll ing , try to b ring it to a stop off to the
side from moving traffic. See an au thoriz e d Au di
dea le r or autho riz e d Au di Serv ice Fa cility fo r as­
sis tance.
A WARNING
If the eng ine stops while dr iving , yo u will
nee d to use more fo rce to bra ke the vehicle .
Th is increases the r isk o f an acci dent . There

If the DJ indicato r light b links whi le driving, the
E SC or ASR (Anti-Slip Reg ulation) is actively reg u­
lating.
If the
DJ indicato r light turns on, the system has
switched the ESC off . In this case, you can switch
the ignition off and then on to switch the ESC on
again. The indicator light turns off when the sys­
tem is functioning fully.
Stabili zation control (E SC ): sport. Warning! Re­
duced stability

tia l lock. This also causes the ESC to malfunction .
The brakes still function with their normal power, but ABS is not active .

If the ... (USA models) JII (Canada mod­
e ls) brake system indicator light turns on to­
gether with the ABS and ESC ind ic a tor lights,
the ABS/ESC regulating function may have
failed. Functions that s tabilize the vehicle are
no longer avai lab le . This could cause the vehi ­
cle to swerve, which increases the risk that

Have the safety systems inspected immedi­
ately. Otherwise, there is a risk that the sys­
tems may not activate during a collision,
which increases the risk of serious injury or death.

If the II indicator light turns on if there is a mal­
function in the engine control.
Drive slowly to an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thori zed Audi Service Facility to have the engine
checked.
C Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL)
The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is part of
the On Board Diagnostic system (OBD II) . The
¢..ij symbol turns on when the ignition is switched
on and turns off again once the engine is started
and running at a steady idle speed. This indicates
that the MIL is functioning correctly.
The indicator light turns on if there is a malfunc­
tion in the engine electronics. See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility to
have the malfunction corrected.

The engine speed is automatically limited to the
speed displayed in the driver information system .
This protects the engine from overheating.

The warning/indicator light turns on w hen the ig­
ni tion is switched o n and turns off once the e n­

speed. This indica tes th at the MIL is functioning
cor re ct ly.

If the light does not turn off after starting the
engine
or turns on while driving, this may in di­
cate there is a malfunction in the engine.
If the
indicato r turns on, the cata lytic conve rter may be
damaged .
Drive
with reduced engine performan ce (avo id
high speeds for extended per io d s of t ime and/o r
fast acceleration) and have the ma lfunction cor­
rected. See an author ized Audi dealer or author­
ized Audi Service Facility.
The in dicator may turn on if the e lectron ic speed
li miter is faulty. For add it iona l information, see
¢ page 72, Electronic speed limiter.
On-Board Diagnostics

On-Boa rd Diagnostics mo nitors the components
of your emission control system. Each monitored
component in your engine system has been as­
s igned a code. In case o f a malfunction, the com­
ponent will be i dent ified and the faul t st o red as a
co de i n t he co ntro l mo dule mem ory.
The MIL lig ht may also illum inate if there is a
leak in the on-boa rd fuel vapor recovery system .
In or de r to ma ke an acc urate diagnosis, the sto r­
ed data can only be d isplayed using special d iag­
nostic equipment (gener ic scan to ol for OBD).
In order to co nnect the s pecial diagnost ic equi p­
ment, push the p lug into the Data Link Connector
(DLC). T he DLC is located to the right of the hood

Your vehicle is equipped with an electromechani­
cal parking brake

Releasing the parking brake automatically
Req uirement: the driver's door must be closed
and the park ing brake must be set.

are available when you start driving

Emergency braking function
You can use the emergency brak ing function in an
emergency situation, or if the standard brake op­
eration mal functions or is disabled .

To reduce the risk of act ivat ing the emergency
braking by mistake, a warning tone (buzzer)
sou nds when the© switch is pulled . Emergency
bra king stops as soon as the®) switch is released
or the accelerator pedal is pressed.
Parking

.. Pull the®> switch to set the parking brake.
.. Place the selector lever in t he P position .
.. Turn the engine off

.. Turn the steering wheel when parking on in­

erwise, the vehi cle will s tart to move imme­

has failed or the brake peda l is o bstr ucted .
During emergency brak ing, your vehicle will
brake s imilar to heavy braking. ESC and the
associated components (ABS, ASR, EDL)
cannot ove rcome the laws of physics. In co r­
ners and when road or weather conditions
are bad, a fu ll brake application can cause
the vehicle to s kid or the rea r end to swe rve,
whi ch in crease s the risk of an ac cident.
- I f the power supply fails, you cannot set the
pa rking bra ke if it is released. In this ca se,
p ar k the vehicle on leve l grou nd and secure
it by plac ing the sele ctor lever in the P pos i­

Driving
-When acce lerating using the launch control
program, all vehicle parts are subject to
heavy loads . Th is can lead to increased
wear.
Emergency mode
In the event of a system malfunction, there is on
emergency program.
If all of the se lecto r lever posit ions are h ighlight­
ed wit h a light background in the Infotainment
d isp lay, there is a system malfunction and the S
tron ic transmiss ion is running in the emergency
program . The vehicle can still be driven in emer­
gency mode, but only with reduced speed and not in a ll gears . In some cases, the vehicle
can­
not drive in rever se.

If the transmission runs in emergency mode,
drive to an aut ho rized Aud i deale r or a uthor­
ized Aud i Service Fac ility immediately to have
the malfunction corrected.
Transmission malfunction

There is a malfunc tion in the transmiss ion. Pa rk

The transm ission is too hot and can become dam­
aged . Stop and let the transm ission cool with the
engine run ning (at id le) in t he P selector leve r po­

tur n off, drive to an a uthorized Aud i dea le r or au­
t hor ized Audi Se rvice Facility immed iate ly to have
the ma lfunction co rrected . If the ind icator light
and the driver message do not turn off, do not
