rently in use.
Warning with braking function
Note Adapting your speed and driving style
The warning does not relieve the driver
of the responsibility to adapt his or her driving
speed and style to the traffic conditions.â—€
Display
If a collision with a recognized vehicle is immiâ€
nent a warning symbol appears in the instruâ€
ment cluster and in the Head-Up Display.
SymbolMeasureThe vehicle lights up red: prewarnâ€
ing.
Brake and increase distance. The vehicle flashes red and an
acoustic signal sounds: acute warnâ€
ing.
You are requested to intervene by
braking or make an evasive maneuâ€
ver.
Prewarning
This warning is issued, e.g., when there is the
impending danger of a collision or the distance
to the vehicle ahead is too small.
The driver must intervene actively when there
is a prewarning.
Acute warning with braking function
Warning of the imminent danger of a collision
when the vehicle approaches another object at
a relatively high differential speed.
The driver must intervene actively when there
is an acute warning. If necessary, the driver is
assisted by a minor automatic braking interâ€
vention in a possible risk of collision.
Acute warnings can also be triggered without
previous prewarning.
Braking intervention
The warning prompts the driver himself/herself
to react. During a warning, the maximum brakâ€
ing force is used. Premise for the brake boosâ€
ter is sufficiently quick and hard stepping on
the brake pedal. The system can assist with
some braking intervention if there is risk of a
collision. At low speeds vehicles may thus
come to a complete stop.
The braking intervention is executed only if
DSC Dynamic Stability Control is switched on
and Dynamic Traction Control DTC is actiâ€
vated.
The braking intervention can be interrupted by
stepping on the accelerator pedal or by acâ€
tively moving the steering wheel.
Object detection can be restricted. Limitations
of the detection range and functional restricâ€
tions are to be considered.
Tow-starting and towing
For towing the vehicle turn, switch off the
Intelligent Safety systems; otherwise malfuncâ€
tions of the individual braking systems might
lead to accidents.â—€
System limits Be alert
Due to system limitations, warnings may
be not issued at all, or may be issued late or
improperly. Therefore, always be alert andSeite 108ControlsSafety108

Braking intervention The detection of objects can be influenced by
technical system limitations, e. g. pedestrians
or stationary objects. Limitations of the detecâ€
tion range and functional restrictions are to be
considered.
The warning prompts the driver himself/herself
to react. During a warning, the maximum brakâ€

ter is sufficiently quick and hard stepping on
the brake pedal. The system can assist with
automatic braking intervention if there is risk of
a collision. The intervention can bring the vehiâ€
cle to a complete stop.
The braking intervention is executed only if
DSC Dynamic Stability Control is switched on
and Dynamic Traction Control DTC is actiâ€
vated.
Above approx. 130 mph/210 km/h the braking
intervention occurs as a brief braking pressure.
No automatic delay occurs.
The braking intervention can be interrupted by
stepping on the accelerator pedal or by acâ€
tively moving the steering wheel.Tow-starting and towing
For towing the vehicle turn, switch off the
Intelligent Safety systems; otherwise malfuncâ€
tions of the individual braking systems might
lead to accidents.â—€
System limits Be alert
Due to system limitations, warnings may
be not issued at all, or may be issued late or
improperly. Therefore, always be alert and
ready to intervene; otherwise, there is the risk
of an accident.â—€
Detection range The system's detection potential is limited.
Thus a warning might not be issued or be isâ€
sued late.
E. g. the following situations may not be deâ€
tected:â–·Slow moving vehicles when you approach
them at high speed.â–·Vehicles that suddenly swerve in front of
you, or sharply decelerating vehicles.â–·Vehicles with an unusual rear appearance.â–·Two-wheeled vehicles ahead of you.â–·Pedestrians.â–·Stationary objects.
Functional limitations
The system may not be fully functional in the
following situations:
â–·In heavy fog, rain, sprayed water or snowâ€
fall.â–·In tight curves.â–·If the driving stability control systems are
limited or deactivated, e.g., DSC OFF.â–·If the radar sensor is dirty or obscured.Seite 111SafetyControls111

Settings are stored for the profile currently in
use.
Display in the instrument cluster
â–·Lines: system is activated.â–·Arrows: at least one lane marking
was detected and warnings can be
issued.
Issued warning
If you leave the lane and if a lane marking has
been detected, the steering wheel begins viâ€
brating.
If the turn signal is set before changing the
lane, a warning is not issued.
End of warning
The warning ends:
â–·Automatically after approx. 3 seconds.â–·When returning to your own lane.â–·When braking hard.â–·When using the turn signal.
System limits
The system may not be fully functional in the
following situations:
â–·In heavy fog, rain or snowfall.â–·In the event of missing, worn, poorly visiâ€
ble, merging, diverging, or multiple lane
markings such as in construction areas.â–·When lane markings are covered in snow,
ice, dirt or water.â–·In tight curves or on narrow lanes.â–·When the lane markings are covered by
objects.â–·When driving very close to the vehicle in
front of you.â–·When driving toward bright lights.â–·When the windshield in front of the interior
rearview mirror is fogged over, dirty or covâ€
ered with stickers, etc.â–·During calibration of the camera immediâ€
ately after vehicle shipment.
Active Blind Spot Detection
The concept
Two radar sensors below the rear bumper
monitor the area behind and next to the vehicle
at speeds above approx. 30 mph/50 km/h.
The system indicates whether there are vehiâ€
cles in the blind spot, arrow 1, or approaching
from behind on the adjacent lane, arrow 2.
The lamp in the exterior mirror housing is dimâ€
med.
Before you change lanes after setting the turn
signal, the system issues a warning in the sitâ€
uations described above.
The lamp in the exterior mirror housing flashes
and the steering wheel vibrates.

System limits
Limits of ultrasonic measurement
Ultrasonic measuring might not function under
the following circumstances:
â–·For small children and animals.â–·For persons with certain clothing, e.g.
coats.â–·With external interference of the ultraâ€
sound, e.g. from passing vehicles or loud
machines.â–·When sensors are dirty, iced over, damâ€
aged or out of position.â–·Under certain weather conditions such as
high relative humidity, rain, snowfall, exâ€
treme heat or strong wind.â–·With tow bars and trailer couplings of other
vehicles.â–·With thin or wedge-shaped objects.â–·With moving objects.â–·With elevated, protruding objects such as
ledges or cargo.â–·With objects with corners and sharp edges.â–·With objects with a fine surface structure
such as fences.â–·For objects with porous surfaces.
Low objects already displayed, e.g., curbs, can
move into the blind area of the sensors before
or after a continuous tone sounds.
False warnings
PDC may issue a warning under the following conditions even though there is no obstacle
within the detection range:
â–·In heavy rain.â–·When sensors are very dirty or covered
with ice.â–·When sensors are covered in snow.â–·On rough road surfaces.â–·On uneven surfaces, such as speed
bumps.â–·In large buildings with right angles and
smooth walls, e.g., in underground gaâ€
rages.â–·Through heavy pollution.â–·Due to other ultrasound sources, e.g.,
sweeping machines, high pressure steam
cleaners or neon lights.
The malfunction is signaled by a continuâ€
ous tone alternating between the front and
rear speakers. As soon as the malfunction
due to other ultrasound sources is no lonâ€
ger present, the system is again fully funcâ€
tional.
Malfunction
A Check Control message is displayed.
The range of the sensors is shown as a shaded
area on the Control Display.
PDC has failed. Have the system checked.

switched on automatically with the AUTO proâ€
gram.
Convertible program
When the hardtop is open, the convertible proâ€
gram is activated as well. In the convertible
program, the automatic climate control is optiâ€
mized for driving with the hardtop open. In adâ€
dition, the air flow is increased as the vehicle
speed increases.
The efficiency of the convertible program can
be greatly enhanced by installing the wind deâ€
flector.
Temperature Turn the ring to set the desired
temperature.
The automatic climate control reaches this
temperature as quickly as possible, if needed
by increasing the cooling or heating output,
and then keeps it constant.
Do not rapidly switch between different temâ€
perature settings. Otherwise, the automatic cliâ€
mate control will not have sufficient time to adâ€
just the set temperature.
