{ WarningLeaving children in a vehicle with
a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
transmitter is dangerous and
children or others could be
seriously injured or killed. They
could operate the power windows
or other controls or make the
vehicle move. The windows will
function with the RKE transmitter
in the vehicle, and children or
others could be caught in the path
of a closing window. Do not leave
children in a vehicle with an RKE
transmitter.

Keys, Doors, and Windows 17.
Turn on the hazard warning
flashers.
.
Turn the ignition switch on and
then off.
Conditions in Which the
Remote Start Will Not Work The remote start will not operate if
any of the following occur:
.
The hood is open.
.
The vehicle is on.
.
There is an emission control
system malfunction.
.
The vehicle is not in park.
.
The hazard switch is on.
.
Two remote starts or a remote
start with an extension have
already been used.
The engine turns off during a remote
start if the coolant temperature gets
too high or if the oil pressure
gets low. Door Locks
{ WarningUnlocked doors can be
dangerous.
.
Passengers, especially
children, can easily open
the doors and fall out of a
moving vehicle. The doors
can be unlocked and
opened while the vehicle is
moving. The chance of
being thrown out of the
vehicle in a crash is
increased if the doors are
not locked. So, all
passengers should wear
seat belts properly and the
doors should be locked
whenever the vehicle is
driven.
.
Young children who get into
unlocked vehicles may be
unable to get out. A child
can be overcome by
extreme heat and can suffer
(Continued) Warning (Continued) permanent injuries or even
death from heat stroke.
Always lock the vehicle
whenever leaving it.
.
Outsiders can easily enter
through an unlocked door
when you slow down or stop
the vehicle. Locking the
doors can help prevent this
from happening.
To lock/unlock the doors from the
outside:
.
Press
Q or
K on the Remote
Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter.
See Remote Keyless Entry
(RKE) System Operation 0 8 .
.
Use the key in the driver door.
The key lock cylinder is covered
with a cap.
To lock/unlock the doors from the

Keyless Entry (RKE)
transmitter.
2. Open the door from the
outside.
When the safety lock is enabled,
adults and older children will not be
able to open the rear door from the
inside. Cancel the safety locks to
enable the doors to open from the
inside.
To cancel the safety lock:
1. Unlock the door and open it
from the outside.
2. Move the lever up to unlock.
Do the same for the other door. Doors Liftgate
{ WarningExhaust gases can enter the
vehicle if it is driven with the
liftgate or trunk/hatch open,
or with any objects that pass
through the seal between the
body and the trunk/hatch or
liftgate. Engine exhaust contains
carbon monoxide (CO) which
cannot be seen or smelled. It can
cause unconsciousness and even
death.
If the vehicle must be driven with
the liftgate or trunk/hatch open:
.
Close all of the windows.
.
Fully open the air outlets on
or under the instrument
panel.
(Continued) Warning (Continued) .
Adjust the climate control
system to a setting that
brings in only outside air
and set the fan speed to the
highest setting. See
“ Climate Control Systems ”
in the Index.
.
If the vehicle is equipped
with a power liftgate, disable
the power liftgate function.
See Engine Exhaust 0 190 .
Caution
To avoid damage to the liftgate or
liftgate glass, make sure the area
above and behind the liftgate is
clear before opening it.

22 Keys, Doors, and Windows (RKE) transmitter twice within
five seconds. See Remote Keyless
Entry (RKE) System Operation 0 8 .
To open the liftgate, press the touch
pad under the liftgate handle and
lift up.
With Keyless Access, the liftgate
can be opened when locked if the
RKE transmitter is within 1 m (3 ft)
of the liftgate. See Remote Keyless
Entry (RKE) System Operation 0 8 .
Use the pull cup to lower and close
the liftgate. Do not press the touch
pad while closing the liftgate. This
may cause the liftgate to be
unlatched. The liftgate has an electric latch.
If the battery is disconnected or has
low voltage, the liftgate will not
open. The liftgate will resume
operation when the battery is
reconnected and charged.
Always close the liftgate before
driving.
Power Liftgate Operation
{ WarningYou or others could be injured if
caught in the path of the power
liftgate. Make sure there is no one
in the way of the liftgate as it is
opening and closing.
Caution
Driving with an open and
unsecured liftgate may result in
damage to the power liftgate
components. The power liftgate switch is on the
driver door. The vehicle must be in
P (Park).
The modes are:
.
MAX: Opens to maximum
height.
.
3/4: Opens to a reduced height
that can be set from 3/4 to fully

liftgate can be manually opened
all the way.
.
OFF: Opens manually only.

30 Keys, Doors, and Windows If the ignition mode will not change
with the other transmitter or with a
transmitter in the transmitter pocket,
your vehicle needs service. If the
ignition does change modes, the
first transmitter may be faulty. See
your dealer who can service the
theft-deterrent system and have a
new RKE transmitter programmed to
the vehicle.
It is possible for the immobilizer
system to learn new or replacement
RKE transmitters. Up to eight
transmitters can be programmed for
the vehicle. To program additional
transmitters, see “ Programming
Transmitters to the Vehicle ” under
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
System Operation 0 8 .
Do not leave the transmitter or
device that disarms or deactivates
the theft-deterrent system in the
vehicle. Exterior Mirrors Convex Mirrors
{ WarningA convex mirror can make things,
like other vehicles, look farther
away than they really are. If you
cut too sharply into the right lane,
you could hit a vehicle on the
right. Check the inside mirror or
glance over your shoulder before
changing lanes.
The passenger side mirror is convex
shaped. A convex mirror's surface is
curved so more can be seen from
the driver seat. Power Mirrors

To adjust the brightness, press the
button (1) on the back of the
rearview mirror without covering the
light sensor (2).
Each button press cycles the
brightness between five settings. { WarningThe Rear Camera Mirror (RCM)
has a limited view. Portions of the
road, vehicles, and other objects
may not be seen. Do not drive or
park the vehicle using only this
camera. Objects may appear
closer than they are. Check the
outside mirrors or glance over
your shoulder when making lane
changes or merging. Failure to
use proper care may result in
injury, death, or vehicle damage. The camera that provides the Rear
Camera Mirror (RCM) image is
above the license plate, next to the
Rear Vision Camera (RVC).
Troubleshooting
If the tab is in the rearward position
and a blue screen and
d are
displayed in the mirror and the
display shuts off, see your dealer for
service.
