Vehicle Damage Warnings
Also, in this manual you will nd these notices:
Notice:These mean there is something that could
damage your vehicle.
A notice tells about something that can damage the
vehicle. Many times, this damage would not be covered
by your vehicle’s warranty, and it could be costly. But
the notice will tell what to do to help avoid the damage.
When you read other manuals, you might see
CAUTION and NOTICE warnings in different colors or in
different words.
There are also warning labels on the vehicle. They use
the same words, CAUTION or NOTICE.
Vehicle Symbols
The vehicle has components and labels that use
symbols instead of text. Symbols are shown along with
the text describing the operation or information
relating to a specic component, control, message,
gage, or indicator.
If you need help guring out a specic name of a
component, gage, or indicator, reference the following
topics:

Both indicator lights next to the heated seat symbol will
be lit to indicate that it is on the high setting. Press
the button a second time to go to the low setting.
One indicator will be lit. Press the button a third time to
turn the heated seat off.
This feature will turn off automatically when the ignition
is turned off.
Reclining Seatbacks
{CAUTION:
If the seatback is not locked, it could move
forward in a sudden stop or crash. That could
cause injury to the person sitting there. Always
push and pull on the seatback to be sure it is
locked.To adjust a manual seatback, pull up on the lever
located on the outboard side of the driver’s or front
passenger’s seat. Release the lever to lock the seatback
where you want it. Push and pull on the seatback to
make sure it is locked in place. Pull up on lever without
applying pressure to the seatback, and the seatback
will return to the upright position.
Your vehicle may have power reclining seatbacks. See
Eight-Way Power Seats on page 1-3.

Removing the Third Row Seat
1. Remove the convenience center, if equipped. See
Convenience Center on page 2-56for more
information.
2. Make sure all items are off the seat.
3. Put the seatback in its folded position before
removing the seat. See “Folding the Seatback(s)”
earlier in this section.
4. From behind the seat, squeeze the release handle
until the pin indicators are fully out. This indicates
that the rear latches are released from the oor. For
ease of removing the seat, squeeze the handle
with the palm of your hand up.5. Lift the seat slightly from the oor to ensure the
latches are clear of the oor pins.
6. Pull the seat rearward and out of the vehicle. The
release handle can be used to carry the seat.
Installing the Third Row Seat
{CAUTION:
A seat that is not locked into place properly
can move around in a collision or sudden stop.
People in the vehicle could be injured. Be sure
to lock the seat into place properly when
installing it.

Your vehicle has indicators to remind you and your
passengers to buckle your safety belts. SeeSafety Belt

In most states and in all Canadian provinces, the law
says to wear safety belts. Here is why:They work.
You never know if you will be in a crash. If you do have
a crash, you do not know if it will be a bad one.
A few crashes are mild, and some crashes can be so
serious that even buckled up, a person would not
survive. But most crashes are in between. In many of
them, people who buckle up can survive and sometimes
walk away. Without belts they could have been badly
hurt or killed.
After more than 30 years of safety belts in vehicles, the
facts are clear. In most crashes buckling up does
matter...a lot!Why Safety Belts Work
When you ride in or on anything, you go as fast as
it goes.
Take the simplest vehicle. Suppose it is just a seat on
wheels.

The shoulder belt may lock if you pull the belt
across you very quickly. If this happens, let the belt
go back slightly to unlock it. Then pull the belt
across you more slowly.
4. Push the latch plate into the buckle until it clicks.
Pull up on the latch plate to make sure it is secure.

Extender on page 1-34.
Make sure the release button on the buckle is
positioned so you would be able to unbuckle the
safety belt quickly if you ever had to.
5. Move the shoulder belt height adjuster to the height
that is right for you. SeeShoulder Belt Height
Adjustment on page 1-27.
6. To make the lap part tight, pull up on the
shoulder belt.

Lap-Shoulder Belt
All rear seat positions have lap-shoulder belts. Here is
how to wear one properly.
1. Pick up the latch plate and pull the belt across you.
Do not let it get twisted.
The shoulder belt may lock if you pull the belt
across you very quickly. If this happens, let the belt
go back slightly to unlock it. Then pull the belt
across you more slowly.
2. Push the latch plate into the buckle until it clicks.
Pull up on the latch plate to make sure it is secure.When the shoulder belt is pulled out all the way, it
will lock. If it does, let it go back all the way
and start again.

Make sure the release button on the buckle is
positioned so you would be able to unbuckle the
safety belt quickly if you ever had to.
3. To make the lap part tight, pull up on the
shoulder part.

You will be using the lap-shoulder belt to secure the
child restraint in this position. Be sure to follow the
instructions that came with the child restraint. Secure
the child in the child restraint when and as the
instructions say.
1. Your vehicle has airbags. SeePassenger Sensing
System on page 1-66. General Motors recommends
that rear-facing child restraints be secured in a
rear seat, even if the airbag or airbags are off. If
your child restraint is forward-facing, move the seat
as far back as it will go before securing the child
restraint in this seat. SeeManual Passenger
Seat on page 1-2,Six-Way Power Seats on
page 1-2orEight-Way Power Seats on page 1-3.
When the passenger sensing system has turned off
the right front passenger’s airbag or airbags, the
off indicator in the passenger airbag status indicator
should light and stay lit when you turn the ignition
to RUN or START. SeePassenger Airbag
Status Indicator on page 3-39.
2. Put the child restraint on the seat.
3. Pick up the latch plate, and run the lap and shoulder
portions of the vehicle’s safety belt through or
around the restraint. The child restraint instructions
will show you how.4. Buckle the belt. Make sure the release button is
positioned so you would be able to unbuckle the
safety belt quickly if you ever had to.

7. Push and pull the child restraint in different
directions to be sure it is secure.
8. If the airbag or airbags are off, the off indicator on
the instrument panel will be lit and stay lit when the
key is turned to RUN or START.
If a child restraint has been installed and the on
indicator is lit, turn the vehicle off. Remove the child
restraint from the vehicle and reinstall the child restraint.
If after reinstalling the child restraint and restarting
the vehicle, the on indicator is still lit, check to make
sure that the vehicle’s seatback is not pressing the child
restraint into the seat cushion. If this happens, slightly
recline the vehicle’s seatback and adjust the seat
cushion if possible. Also make sure the child restraint is
not trapped under the vehicle head restraint. If this
happens, adjust the head restraint.
If the on indicator is still lit, secure the child in the child
restraint in a rear seat position in the vehicle and
check with your dealer.
To remove the child restraint, if the top tether is
connected to the top tether anchor, disconnect it.
Unbuckle the vehicle’s safety belt and let it go back all
the way. The safety belt will move freely again and
be ready to work for an adult or larger child passenger.Airbag System
Your vehicle has a frontal airbag for the driver and a
frontal airbag for the right front passenger. Your vehicle
may also have side impact airbags. Side impact
airbags are available for the driver, the right front
passenger and the second row captain’s chairs
(if equipped).
If your vehicle has a side impact airbag, the words
AIRBAG will appear on the airbag covering on the side
of the seatback closest to the door.
Frontal airbags are designed to help reduce the risk of
injury from the force of an inating frontal airbag.
But these airbags must inate very quickly to do their
job and comply with federal regulations.

There is an airbag
readiness light on the
instrument panel cluster,
which shows the airbag
symbol.
The system checks the airbag electrical system for
malfunctions. The light tells you if there is an electrical
problem. SeeAirbag Readiness Light on page 3-38
for more information.Where Are the Airbags?
The driver’s frontal airbag is in the middle of the
steering wheel.
