SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM
UNAVAILABLE
This message indicates that Side Blind
Zone Alert (SBZA), Lane Change Alert
(LCA), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert
(RCTA) are disabled either because the
sensor is blocked and cannot detect
vehicles in the blind zone, or the
vehicle is passing through an open
area, such as the desert, where there
is insufficient data for operation. This
message may also activate during
heavy rain or due to road spray. The
vehicle does not need service. For
cleaning, see "Washing the Vehicle"
underExterior Care 0298.
TAKE STEERING
If LKA does not detect active driver
steering, an alert and chime may be
provided. Move the steering wheel to
dismiss. See Lane Keep Assist
(LKA) 0224.
Ride Control System
Messages
SERVICE STABILITRAK
This message displays if there is a
problem with the StabiliTrak system.

SERVICE SUSPENSION SYSTEM
This message displays when there is a
problem with the Magnetic Ride
Control™ system. See Driver Mode

serviced by your dealer.
SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL
This message displays when there is a
problem with the Traction Control
System (TCS). See Traction Control/
Electronic Stability Control 0198.
TRACTION CONTROL OFF
This message may display when the
Traction Control System (TCS) has
been turned off. See Traction Control/

TRACTION CONTROL ON
This message may display when the
Traction Control System (TCS) has

Airbag System Messages
SERVICE AIRBAG
This message displays if there is a
problem with the airbag system. See

AUTOMATIC SEATBELT
TIGHTENING UNAVAILABLE
This message displays when the
Automatic Safety Belt Tightening
System, if equipped, becomes
unavailable. This could be caused by a
temporary condition. If the message
continues to display, see your dealer.

Engine Sound Management
This allows the Engine Sound
Management setting to be changed.
Select Auto (Mode Selector), Tour,
Sport, or Track.
Steering
This allows the Steering setting to be
changed.
Select Auto (Mode Selector), Tour,
Sport, or Track.
Suspension
This allows the Suspension setting to
be changed.
Select Auto (Mode Selector), Tour,
Sport, or Track.
Language (Language)
Select Language, then select from the
available language(s). Select the language. The selected
language will display on the system,
and voice recognition (if equipped)
will reflect the selected language.
Valet Mode
(If Equipped)
This will lock the infotainment system
and steering wheel controls. It may
also limit access to vehicle storage
locations (if equipped).
To enable valet mode:
1. Enter a four-digit code on the keypad.
2. Select Enter to go to the confirmation screen.
3. Re-enter the four-digit code.
Press LOCK or UNLOCK to lock or
unlock the system. Press Back to go
back to the previous menu.
The four-digit code can be texted to a
paired phone if forgotten.
Radio
Press to display the Radio Menu and
the following may display:
. Manage Favorites
. Number of Favorites Pages .
Audible Touch Feedback
. Auto Volume
. Bose AudioPilot
. Maximum Startup Volume
. Audio Cue Volume
Manage Favorites
This allows favorites to be edited.
Select a displayed Favorite to select
that favorite to edit. Select Rename to
rename the favorite or Delete to
delete it.
Number of Favorites Pages
Select to set the number of favorites
to display.
Select the desired number or select
Auto and the infotainment system will
automatically adjust the number of
favorites shown.
Audible Touch Feedback
This allows Audible Touch Feedback
to be turned on or off.
Select Off or On.

selected, the suspension, steering, and
powertrain will change calibrations to
achieve the desired mode
characteristics. If the vehicle is
equipped with Magnetic Ride Control,
selecting the various Driver Modes
adjusts the ride of the vehicle to
enhance the ride performance for the
road conditions and the
selected mode.
The Driver Mode Control has three or
four modes: Tour, Sport, Snow/Ice,
and Track (V-Series Only). Press and
release the MODE button (ATS) or
press the
yorzbutton (ATS-V) on
the center console to activate the
mode menu in the cluster. The first
press of the button will show the
current mode. Subsequent presses will
scroll though the available modes. The
Tour and Sport modes will feel similar
on a smooth road. Select a new
setting whenever driving conditions
change.
Tour Mode
Use for normal city and highway
driving to provide a smooth, soft ride.
Sport Mode
Use where road conditions or personal
preference demand a more controlled
response.
When selected, the Sport mode
indicator will display in the Driver
Information Center (DIC).
When in Sport or Track mode, the
vehicle will shift automatically but
may hold a lower gear longer than it
would in the normal driving mode
based on braking, throttle input, and
vehicle lateral acceleration. See
Automatic Transmission 0191. The
steering will change to provide more
precise control. If the vehicle has
Magnetic Ride Control, the suspension
will change to provide better
cornering performance.
Competitive Driving Mode can be
accessed through this mode.
Snow/Ice Mode
Use when more traction is needed
during slippery conditions. The
transmission will use 2 (Second) gear
instead of 1 (First) gear when accelerating from a stop. The vehicle
will upshift normally when the vehicle
is moving.
For V-Series only, Snow/Ice mode will
use a different accelerator pedal map
to optimize traction on a slippery
surface. The accelerator pedal will
reduce engine torque at small pedal
inputs. The transmission will also
shift differently to assist in
maintaining traction.
When selected, the Snow/Ice mode
indicator will display in the DIC.
This feature is not intended for use
when the vehicle is stuck in sand,
mud, ice, snow, or gravel. If the
vehicle becomes stuck, see
If the
Vehicle Is Stuck 0180.
Track Mode (V-Series Only)
Use when maximum vehicle handling
is desired. When selected, the Track
Mode indicator will display in the DIC.
Accelerator pedal is adjusted to give
maximum control during the highest
level of spirited driving.

The automatic transmission and
steering will function similar to
Sport Mode.
The Magnetic Ride Control will be set
to the optimum level for vehicle
responsiveness.
Competitive Driving Mode can be
accessed through this mode.
Use when driving on a closed race
course or drag strip.
Vehicle systems are optimized for
maximum track performance.
This mode allows entry to
Performance Traction Management
(PTM) in the Competitive
Driving Mode.
Driver Mode Customization
The Engine Sound Management,
steering, and suspension drive modes
can be set to the driver’s preference.
See“Driving Mode ”under
“Personalization Menus ”in Vehicle
Personalization 0137.
The selections made in the Driving
Mode menu overwrite the main
vehicle mode selection via the buttons
or switch on the center console. In order to customize and overwrite, the
driver select one of the three settings
by touching the infotainment display.
When in the customization screen for
each system, select one of four
options:

Auto (Follows the mode switch)
. Engine Sound Management
. Steering
. Suspension
The default will be to follow the
vehicle mode switch settings, but the
main vehicle mode selection for the
currently selected system can be
overwritten using this menu. The
settings selected in this menu will set
the vehicle behavior in all selected
vehicle modes, and will be retained
over each ignition cycle. They do not
have to be reset each time the vehicle
is started.
Competitive Driving Mode
(FE4 Only)
To select this optional handling mode,
press
Yquickly two times and the
DIC will display the appropriate message. While in the Competitive
Driving Mode, the traction off light
i
and StabiliTrak OFF lightgwill come
on in the instrument cluster. TCS does
not limit wheel spin, the Electronic
Limited-Slip Differential (ELSD) allows
increased vehicle agility, and more
effort is required to turn the steering
wheel. See “Limited-Slip Rear Axle
(V-Series Only)” later in this section.
Adjust your driving accordingly.
Press
Yagain, or turn the ignition to
ACC/ACCESSORY and restart the
vehicle, to turn TCS back on. The
traction off light
iand StabiliTrak
OFF light
gwill go out in the
instrument cluster.
Caution
When traction control is turned off,
or Competitive Driving Mode is
active, it is possible to lose traction.

and trained and supported service

Accessories and
Modifications
Adding non-dealer accessories or
making modifications to the vehicle
can affect vehicle performance and
safety, including such things as
airbags, braking, stability, ride and
handling, emissions systems,
aerodynamics, durability, and
electronic systems like antilock
brakes, traction control, and stability
control. These accessories or
modifications could even cause
malfunction or damage not covered by
the vehicle warranty.
Damage to suspension components
caused by modifying vehicle height
outside of factory settings will not be
covered by the vehicle warranty.Damage to vehicle components
resulting from modifications or the
installation or use of non-GM certified
parts, including control module or
software modifications, is not covered
under the terms of the vehicle
warranty and may affect remaining
warranty coverage for affected parts.
GM Accessories are designed to
complement and function with other
systems on the vehicle. See your
dealer to accessorize the vehicle using
genuine GM Accessories installed by a
dealer technician.

and cause a crash. When replacing
wheels, use a new GM original
equipment wheel.
Tire Chains
{Warning
If the vehicle has 225/40R18, 225/
40RF18, 255/35RF18, 225/35R19,
or 255/30R19 size tires, do not use
tire chains. There is not enough
clearance. Tire chains used on a
vehicle without the proper amount
of clearance can cause damage to
the brakes, suspension, or other
vehicle parts. The area damaged by
the tire chains could cause loss of
control and a crash. Use another
type of traction device only if its
manufacturer recommends it for
the vehicle's tire size combination
and road conditions. Follow that
manufacturer's instructions. To(Continued)

avoid vehicle damage, drive slow
and readjust or remove the traction
device if it contacts the vehicle. Do
not spin the wheels. If traction
devices are used, install them on
the rear tires.
Caution
If the vehicle is equipped with a tire
size other than 225/40R18, 225/
40RF18, 255/35RF18, 225/35R19,
or 255/30R19, use tire chains only
where legal and only when
necessary. Use low profile chains
that add no more than 12 mm
thickness to the tire tread and inner
sidewall. Use chains that are the
proper size for the tires. Install
them on the tires of the rear axle.
Don't use chains on the tires of the
front axle. Tighten them as tightly
as possible with the ends securely
fastened. Drive slowly and follow(Continued)

the chain manufacturer's
instructions. If the chains contact
the vehicle, stop and retighten
them. If the contact continues, slow
down until it stops. Driving too fast
or spinning the wheels with chains
on will damage the vehicle.
If a Tire Goes Flat
If the vehicle has run-flat tires, there
is no need to stop on the side of the
road to change a flat tire. See Run-Flat
Tires 0271.
{Warning
Special tools and procedures are
required to service a run-flat tire.
If these special tools and
procedures are not used, injury or
vehicle damage may occur. Always
be sure the proper tools and
procedures, as described in the
service manual, are used.

Caution
If the jumper cables are connected
or removed in the wrong order,
electrical shorting may occur and
damage the vehicle. The repairs
would not be covered by the vehicle
warranty. Always connect and
remove the jumper cables in the
correct order, making sure that the
cables do not touch each other or
other metal.
Jumper Cable Removal
Reverse the sequence exactly when
removing the jumper cables.
After starting the disabled vehicle and
removing the jumper cables, allow it
to idle for several minutes.
Towing the Vehicle
Caution
Incorrectly towing a disabled
vehicle may cause damage. The
damage would not be covered by
the vehicle warranty.
Do not lash or hook to suspension
components. Use the proper straps
around the tires to secure the
vehicle.
Have the vehicle towed on a flatbed
car carrier. A wheel lift tow truck
could damage the vehicle.
Due to low ramp angles on the
V-Series only, use care when loading
the vehicle onto a flatbed carrier.
Front spring spacers were provided for
lifting the front suspension if more
clearance is necessary when towing.
Consult your dealer or a professional
towing service if the disabled vehicle
must be towed.
If the vehicle is equipped with tow
eye, only use the tow eye to pull the
vehicle onto a flatbed car carrier from
a flat road surface. Do not use the tow
eye to pull the vehicle from snow,
mud or sand.

Caution
Chrome wheels and other chrome
trim may be damaged if the vehicle
is not washed after driving on roads
that have been sprayed with
magnesium, calcium, or sodium
chloride. These chlorides are used
on roads for conditions such as ice
and dust. Always wash the chrome
with soap and water after exposure.
Caution
To avoid surface damage, do not
use strong soaps, chemicals,
abrasive polishes, cleaners, brushes,
or cleaners that contain acid on
aluminum or chrome-plated wheels.
Use only approved cleaners. Also,
never drive a vehicle with
aluminum or chrome-plated wheels
through an automatic car wash that
uses silicone carbide tire cleaning
brushes. Damage could occur and
the repairs would not be covered by
the vehicle warranty.
Brake System
Visually inspect brake lines and hoses
for proper hook-up, binding, leaks,
cracks, chafing, etc. Inspect disc brake
pads for wear and rotors for surface
condition. Inspect drum brake linings/
shoes for wear or cracks. Inspect all
other brake parts.
Steering, Suspension, and
Chassis Components
Visually inspect steering, suspension,
and chassis components for damaged,
loose, or missing parts or signs of
wear at least once a year.
Inspect power steering for proper
attachment, connections, binding,
leaks, cracks, chafing, etc.
Visually check constant velocity joint
boots and axle seals for leaks.
Body Component Lubrication
Lubricate all key lock cylinders, hood
hinges, liftgate hinges, and the steel
fuel door hinge, unless the
components are plastic. Applying
silicone grease on weatherstrips with aclean cloth will make them last
longer, seal better, and not stick or
squeak.
Underbody Maintenance
At least twice a year, spring and fall,
use plain water to flush any corrosive
materials from the underbody. Take
care to thoroughly clean any areas
where mud and other debris can
collect.
Do not directly power wash the
transfer case and/or front/rear axle
output seals. High pressure water can
overcome the seals and contaminate
the fluid. Contaminated fluid will
decrease the life of the transfer case
and/or axles and should be replaced
Sheet Metal Damage
If the vehicle is damaged and requires
sheet metal repair or replacement,
make sure the body repair shop
applies anti-corrosion material to
parts repaired or replaced to restore
corrosion protection.
Original manufacturer replacement
parts will provide the corrosion
protection while maintaining the
vehicle warranty.

service the vehicle within 5 000 km/
3,000 mi since the last service. Reset
the oil life system when the oil is
changed. SeeEngine Oil Life

Tire Rotation and Required
Services Every 12 000 km/
7,500 mi
Rotate the tires, if recommended for
the vehicle, and perform the following
services. See Tire Rotation0278.
. Check engine oil level and oil
life percentage. If needed, change
engine oil and filter, and reset oil
