1-5 Memory Seat, Mirrors and Steering
Wheel (Option)
The controls for these
features are located on the
driver's door panel, and are
used to program and recall
memory settings for the
driver's seating positions.
Adjust the driver's seat (including the seatback recliner,
lumbar and shoulder belt height adjustments), both the
outside mirrors and steering wheel to a comfortable
position and then press the MEMORY SET button.
Within five seconds, press button ª1º (for driver 1).A second mirror, seating and steering wheel position
can be programmed by repeating the above steps and
pressing button ª2º (for driver 2). Each time a memory
button is pressed, a single beep will sound. Each time
button 1 or 2 is pressed and released while the vehicle
is in PARK (P), the memory positions will be recalled.
Each time button 1 or 2 is pressed and held while the
vehicle is out of PARK (P), the memory positions will
be recalled.
To stop recall movement of the memory seat and
steering wheel at any time, press one of the power seat,
steering wheel or mirror controls.
Two personalized exit positions can be set by first
recalling the driving position (by pressing 1 or 2),
then positioning the steering wheel and seat in the
desired exit positions and then pressing and releasing
the MEMORY SET button and, within five seconds,
pressing the EXIT button. With the vehicle in PARK (P),
the exit position for either previously set driver can be
recalled by pressing the EXIT button. The mirrors,
power lumbar and shoulder belt height positions will
not be stored or recalled for the exit positions.

NOTICE:
If your key seems stuck in OFF and you can't
turn it, be sure you are using the correct key;
if so, is it all the way in? If it is, then turn the
steering wheel left and right while you turn the
key hard. But turn the key only with your hand.
Using a tool to force it could break the key or the
ignition switch. If none of this works, then your
vehicle needs service.
ACCESSORY (B): This position allows you to use
things like the radio and the windshield wipers when the
engine is off. This position will allow you to turn off the
engine, but still turn the steering wheel. If your vehicle
has a column shifter, you will still be able to move the
shift lever. Use ACCESSORY if you must have your
vehicle in motion while the engine is off (for example,
if your vehicle is being pushed or towed).ON (C): This position is for driving. If your vehicle has
a floor (console) shifter and you turn off the engine, the
transaxle will lock. If you need to shift the transaxle out
of PARK (P), the ignition key has to be in ON.
START (D): This position starts the engine.
Retained Accessory Power (RAP)
The following accessories on your vehicle may be used
for up to 10 minutes after the ignition key is turned from
ON to OFF:

Radio

Power Windows

Sunroof
Power to these accessories will stop after 10 minutes or
if any door is opened. If you want power for another
10 minutes, turn the ignition key to ACCESSORY,
then back to OFF. Always leave your key in OFF when
using RAP.

Power Tilt and Telescopic Wheel
(If Equipped)
The power tilt wheel control
is located on the outboard
side of the steering column.
To operate the power tilt feature, push the control up
and the steering wheel will tilt up. Push the control
down and the steering wheel will go down.If the power tilt control is pressed up or down and held
in that position, there will be a slight movement and a
slight pause followed by a continuous movement in the
direction the control is being pressed. This allows very
fine control of the steering wheel position. If the control
is bumped, the steering wheel moves approximately
one degree in the direction commanded.
Push the control forward and the steering wheel moves
toward the front of the vehicle. Push the control
rearward and the steering wheel moves toward the
rear of the vehicle. To set the memory position,

Cellular Telephone (Option)
With this option, your vehicle is equipped with a
portable cellular telephone system. The system has
steering wheel telephone controls and information
output through the Driver Information Center (DIC).
Voice activation with remote record and hands
-free
operation are standard features. For more information,
see the ªCellular Phone System Supplement.º A user's
guide is provided with the telephone.
Accessory Power Outlets
Your vehicle may be equipped with accessory power
outlets. If you have the rear storage door trim armrest,
the power outlet is located under the storage lid. If you
have a vehicle with a center storage compartment
located on the instrument panel, you may also have
an accessory power outlet in the storage drawer.
The outlets can be used to plug in electrical equipment
such as a cellular telephone, CB radio, etc. Follow the
proper installation instructions that are included with
any electrical equipment you install.Certain power accessory plugs may not be compatible
to the power accessory outlet and could result in blown
vehicle or adapter fuses. If you experience a problem
see your dealer for additional information on the power
accessory plugs.
The accessory power outlet will only operate when the
ignition is in ON and for 10 minutes after turning the
ignition OFF. If you would like the accessory power
outlet to operate regardless of ignition position, and
for unlimited periods of time, see ªEngine Compartment
Bussed Electrical Centerº in the Index or see
your dealer.
Leaving an accessory on for a long period of time, or a
fuse in the wrong place, can drain the vehicle's battery.
NOTICE:
When using the accessory power outlet, the
maximum load of any electrical equipment
should not exceed 15 amps.

Remember: Anti-lock doesn't change the time you need
to get your foot up to the brake pedal or always decrease
stopping distance. If you get too close to the vehicle in
front of you, you won't have time to apply your brakes
if that vehicle suddenly slows or stops. Always leave
enough room up ahead to stop, even though you have
anti
-lock brakes.
Using Anti
-Lock
Don't pump the brakes. Just hold the brake pedal down
firmly and let anti
-lock work for you. You may hear the
anti
-lock pump or motor operate, and feel the brake
pedal pulsate, but this is normal.
Braking in Emergencies
With anti-lock, you can steer and brake at the same
time. In many emergencies, steering can help you more
than even the very best braking.
Traction Control System
Your vehicle has a traction control system that limits
wheel spin. This is especially useful in slippery road
conditions. The system operates only if it senses that
one or both of the front wheels are spinning or
beginning to lose traction. When this happens, the
system works the front brakes and reduces engine
power to limit wheel spin.The TRACTION ENGAGED message will display on
the Driver Information Center when the traction control
system is limiting wheel spin. See ªDriver Information
Center Messagesº in the Index. You may feel or hear
the system working, but this is normal.
If your vehicle is in cruise control when the traction
control system begins to limit wheel spin, the cruise
control will automatically disengage. When road
conditions allow you to safely use it again, you may
reengage the cruise control. See ªCruise Controlº
in the Index.United States Canada
This warning light will come on to let you know if
there's a problem with your traction control system.
See ªTraction Control System Warning Lightº in the
Index. When this warning light is on, the system will
not limit wheel spin. Adjust your driving accordingly.

The traction control system automatically comes on
whenever you start your vehicle. To limit wheel spin,
especially in slippery road conditions, you should always
leave the system on. But you can turn the traction control
system off if you ever need to. You should turn the
system off if your vehicle ever gets stuck in sand,
mud or snow and rocking the vehicle is required.

To turn the system off,
press the button located
on the center console.
(For vehicles with a column
shifter, the button is located
at the end of the shift lever.)
The TRACTION OFF message will display on the
Driver Information Center. If the system is limiting
wheel spin when you press the button, the TRACTION
OFF message will display
-- but the system won't
turn off right away. It will wait until there's no longer
a current need to limit wheel spin.You can turn the system back on at any time by pressing
the button again. The TRACTION READY message
should display briefly on the Driver Information Center.
The traction control system monitors the front brake
rotor temperature. If the traction control system comes
on while the front brake rotors are hot due to heavy use
of braking or previous traction control, the TRACTION
SUSPENDED message will be displayed
-- but the
system won't turn off right away. It will wait until
there's no longer a current need to limit wheel spin.
The TRACTION READY message should appear
when the brake rotors are no longer hot and the traction
control system will resume normal operation.
Steering
Power Steering
If you lose power steering assist because the engine
stops or the system is not functioning, you can steer
but it will take much more effort.
Magnasteer

This system continuously adjusts the effort you feel
when steering at all vehicle speeds. It provides ease
when parking yet a firm, solid feel at highway speeds.

8. Now connect the
black negative (
-) cable
to the good battery's
negative (
-) terminal.
Don't let the other end of the negative (
-) cable touch
anything until the next step. The other end of the
negative (
-) cable doesn't go to the dead battery.
Your vehicle has a
remote negative (
-)
terminal, marked
ªGND (
-)º located
near the power
steering fluid reservoir.
Attach the cable to the
remote negative (
-)
terminal provided.
If the SECURITY light flashes, wait until the light
stops flashing before starting the engine.
9. Now start the vehicle with the good battery and run
the engine for a while.
10. Try to start the vehicle with the dead battery.
If it won't start after a few tries, it probably
needs service.

Before closing the hood, be sure all filler caps are on properly. Then pull the hood down and close it firmly.

Adding Coolant
If you need more coolant, add the proper DEX
-COOL

coolant mixture at the surge tank, but only when the
engine is cool.
CAUTION:
You can be burned if you spill coolant on hot
engine parts. Coolant contains ethylene glycol,
and it will burn if the engine parts are hot
enough. Don't spill coolant on a hot engine.
When replacing the pressure cap, make sure it is
hand
-tight.
Surge Tank Pressure Cap
NOTICE:
The surge tank cap is a 18 psi (124 kPa)
pressure
-type cap and must be tightly installed to
prevent coolant loss and possible engine damage
from overheating. Be sure the arrow on the cap
lines up with the overflow hose.
Power Steering Fluid
The power steering fluid
reservoir is located between
the fuse block relay center
and the engine on the
passenger's side of
the vehicle.
