There is an arrow near the
fuel gauge pointing to the side
of the vehicle the fuel door
is on.
When the indicator nears
empty, the low fuel light
comes on. There still is a little
fuel left, but the vehicle should
be refueled soon.
The fuel gauge may:
.Take a little more, or less
fuel to fill up than it
indicates. For example, the
gauge may have indicated
the tank is half full, but it
actually will take a little
more, or less than half the
tank's capacity to fill
the tank.
.Moves a little while turning a
corner, speeding up,
or braking.
.Take a few seconds to
stabilize after the ignition is
turned on and goes back to
empty when the ignition is
turned off.These are normal conditions,
none of which indicate a
problem with the fuel gauge.
Engine Coolant
Temperature Gauge
Metric
English
This gauge measures the
temperature of the vehicle's
engine.
While driving under normal
operating conditions, if the red
LED is illuminated, the engine
is too hot. Pull off the road,
stop the vehicle, and turn off
the engine as soon as
possible.

Caution
Modifications to the engine,
transmission, exhaust,
intake, or fuel system, or the
use of replacement tires
that do not meet the original
tire specifications, can cause
this light to come on. This
could lead to costly repairs
not covered by the vehicle
warranty. This could also
affect the vehicle’s ability to
pass an Emissions
Inspection/Maintenance
test. See Accessories and
Modifications0363.
If the light is flashing : A
malfunction has been
detected that could damage
the emission control system
and increase vehicle
emissions. Diagnosis and
service may be required.
To help prevent damage,
reduce vehicle speed and
avoid hard accelerations and
uphill grades. If towing a trailer, reduce the amount of
cargo being hauled as soon as
possible.
If the light continues to flash,
find a safe place to park. Turn
the vehicle off and wait at
least 10 seconds before
restarting the engine. If the
light is still flashing, follow the
previous guidelines and see
your dealer for service as
soon as possible.
If the light is on steady :
A
malfunction has been
detected. Diagnosis and
service may be required.
Check the following:
.If fuel has been added to the
vehicle using the capless fuel
funnel adapter, make sure
that it has been removed.
See “Filling the Tank with a
Portable Gas Can” under
Filling the Tank 0344. The
diagnostic system can
detect if the adapter has
been left installed in the
vehicle, allowing fuel to
evaporate into the atmosphere. A few driving
trips with the adapter
removed may turn off the
light.
.Poor fuel quality can cause
inefficient engine operation
and poor driveability, which
may go away once the
engine is warmed up. If this
occurs, change the fuel
brand. It may require at least
one full tank of the proper
fuel to turn the light off. See
Recommended Fuel (2.0L L4
Turbo Engine)
0343 or
Recommended Fuel (3.6L
V6 Engine) 0343.
If the light remains on, see
your dealer.
Emissions Inspection and
Maintenance Programs
If the vehicle requires an
Emissions Inspection/
Maintenance test, the test
equipment will likely connect
to the vehicle's Data Link
Connector (DLC).

and seating positions. The
combined weight of the
driver, passengers, and
cargo should never exceed
the vehicle's capacity
weight.
Certification/Tire Label
Label Example
A vehicle-specific
Certification/Tire label is
attached to the center
pillar (B-pillar).
The label may show the
size of the vehicle's original
tires and the inflationpressures needed to obtain
the gross weight capacity
of the vehicle. The label
shows the gross weight
capacity of the vehicle. This
is called the Gross Vehicle
Weight Rating (GVWR). The
GVWR includes the weight
of the vehicle, all
occupants, fuel, and cargo.
The Certification/Tire label
may also show the
maximum weights for the
front and rear axles, called
the Gross Axle Weight
Rating (GAWR). To find out
the actual loads on the
front and rear axles, weigh
the vehicle at a weigh
station. Your dealer can
help with this. Be sure to
spread the load equally on
both sides of the
centerline.
Caution
Overloading the vehicle may
cause damage. Repairs
would not be covered by the
vehicle warranty. Do not
overload the vehicle.
{Warning
Things inside the vehicle
can strike and injure
people in a sudden stop
or turn, or in a crash.
.Put things in the cargo
area of the vehicle. In
the cargo area, put
them as far forward as
possible. Try to spread
the weight evenly.
.Never stack heavier
things, like suitcases,
inside the vehicle so
that some of them are
above the tops of the
seats.

New Vehicle Break-In
Caution
The vehicle does not need
an elaborate break-in. But it
will perform better in the
long run if you follow these
guidelines:
.Do not drive at any one
constant speed, fast or
slow, for the first 800 km
(500 mi). Do not make(Continued)
Caution (Continued)
full-throttle starts. Avoid
downshifting to brake or
slow the vehicle.
.Avoid making hard stops
for the first 300 km
(200 mi) or so. During this
time the new brake linings
are not yet broken in. Hard
stops with new linings can
mean premature wear and
earlier replacement.
Follow this breaking-in
guideline every time you
get new brake linings.
.Do not tow a trailer during
break-in. See Trailer
Towing0351 for the
trailer towing capabilities
of the vehicle and more
information.
Following break-in, engine
speed and load can be
gradually increased. On new vehicles, the various
mechanical and electrical
systems experience a
“break-in”
period during the
first 6 400 km (4,000 mi) of
routine driving. As the vehicle
is driven, the mechanical
systems adjust to provide
optimal fuel economy and
transmission shift
performance.
Electrical systems will adapt
and calibrate during the
break-in period. A one-time
occurrence of clicks and
similar vehicle noises is normal
during this process.
Normal driving charges the
vehicle’s battery to achieve
the best operation of the
vehicle, including fuel economy
and the Stop/Start System.
See Stop/Start System 0259.
