Rear Window Defogger
The rear window defogger uses a warming grid
to remove fog from the rear window.
The rear window defogger will only work when
the ignition is in RUN.
<(Rear):Press the button to turn the rear
window defogger on or off. Be sure to clear as
much snow from the rear window as possible.
An indicator light above the button will come on
to let you know that the rear window defogger
is activated.
The rear window defogger will turn off about
15 minutes after the button is pressed. If turned
on again, the defogger will only run for about
seven minutes before turning off. If the vehicle
is moving faster than 50 mph (80 kph), the
rear defogger will stay on. The defogger can
also be turned off by pressing the button again
or by turning off the engine.Notice:Do not use anything sharp on the
inside of the rear window. If you do, you could
cut or damage the warming grid, and the
repairs would not be covered by your warranty.
Do not attach a temporary vehicle license,
tape, a decal or anything similar to the
defogger grid.
Outlet Adjustment
Use the thumbwheels located next to and below
the air outlets to change the direction of the airow
and to open and close the outlets.
Operation Tips

Clear away any ice, snow or leaves from the
air inlets at the base of the windshield that
may block the ow of air into your vehicle.
Use of non-GM approved hood deectors may
adversely affect the performance of the system.
Keep the path under the front seats clear of
objects to help circulate the air inside of your
vehicle more effectively.

Enhanced Traction System
Warning Light
If your vehicle has the
Enhanced Traction
System (ETS), this
warning light should
come on briey as you
start the engine.
If the warning light does not come on, then have it
xed so it will be ready to warn you if there is a
problem.
If the warning light stays on, or comes on when
you are driving, there may be a problem with your
ETS and your vehicle may need service. When
this warning light is on, the system will not
limit wheel spin. Adjust your driving accordingly.The ETS warning light may come on for the
following reasons:
If you turn the system off by moving the shift
lever to LOW (L), the warning light will come
on and stay on. To turn the system back
on, move the shift lever back to a position
other than LOW (L). The warning light should
go off. SeeEnhanced Traction System
(ETS) on page 234for more information.
The warning light will come on when you set
your parking brake with the engine running,
and it will stay on if your parking brake
does not release fully. If the transaxle shift
lever is in any position other than LOW (L) and
the warning light stays on after your parking
brake is fully released, it means there is
a problem with the system.
If the traction control system is affected by an
engine-related problem, the system will turn
off and the warning light will come on.
If the ETS warning light comes on and stays on
for an extended period of time when the transaxle
shift lever is in any position other than LOW (L),
your vehicle needs service.

Driver Information Center (DIC)
Your vehicle has a Driver Information Center
(DIC). The DIC display gives you the status of
many of your vehicle’s systems. The DIC is also
used to display driver personalization menu modes
and warning/status messages. All messages will
appear in the DIC display, located at the bottom of
the instrument panel cluster.
The DIC buttons are
located on the left side
of the steering wheel.
q(Information):Press this button to scroll
through the vehicle information mode displays.
r(Reset):Press this button to reset some
vehicle information mode displays, select a
personalization menu mode setting, or
acknowledge a warning message.
Press and hold the information and reset buttons
at the same time for one second, then release
the buttons to enter the personalization menu.

DIC Operation and Displays
The DIC comes on when the ignition is on. The
DIC has different modes which can be accessed
by pressing the DIC buttons. The button functions
are detailed in the following.

LOW COOLANT
If your vehicle has a 2.0L engine, this message
displays when there is a low level of engine
coolant. Have the cooling system serviced by your
dealer as soon as possible. SeeEngine Coolant
on page 302for more information.
LOW FUEL
This message displays when your vehicle is low
on fuel. Rell the fuel tank as soon as possible.
SeeFuel Gage on page 179,Fuel on page 282,
andFilling the Tank on page 285for more
information.
LOW TRACTION
If your vehicle has the Enhanced Traction System
(ETS), this message displays when the system
is actively limiting wheel spin. Slippery road
conditions may exist if this message displays,
so adjust your driving accordingly. SeeEnhanced
Traction System (ETS) on page 234for more
information.
PARKING BRAKE
This message displays if the parking brake is left
engaged. SeeParking Brake on page 123for
more information.
POWER STEERING
This message displays if a problem has been
detected with the electric power steering. Have
your vehicle serviced by your dealer immediately.
SERVICE AIR BAG
This message displays when there is a problem
with the airbag system. Have your vehicle serviced
by your dealer immediately.
TRUNK AJAR
This message displays when the trunk lid is not
closed completely. Make sure that the trunk
lid is closed completely. SeeTrunk on page 102.
DIC Vehicle Personalization
Your vehicle has personalization capabilities
that allow you to program certain features to a
preferred setting. All of the features listed may not
be available on your vehicle. Only the features
available will be displayed on the DIC.
The default settings for the features were set
when your vehicle left the factory, but may have
been changed from their default state since
that time.

LANGUAGE
This feature allows you to select the language in
which the DIC will display. When LANGUAGE
appears on the display, press and hold the reset
button for at least one second to scroll through the
available settings:
ENGLISH (default):The DIC will display all
information in English.
FRENCH:The DIC will display all information
in French.
SPANISH:The DIC will display all information
in Spanish.
GERMAN:The DIC will display all information
in German.
Choose one of the available settings and press
the information button to select it and exit out
of the personalization menu mode.
Exiting Personalization Menu
The personalization menu will be exited when any
of the following conditions occur:
A ten second time period has elapsed.
The ignition is turned off.
The end of the personalization menu list
is reached.
Audio System(s)
Determine which radio your vehicle has and then
read the pages following to familiarize yourself
with its features.
Driving without distraction is a necessity for a safer
driving experience. SeeDefensive Driving on
page 226. By taking a few moments to read this
manual and get familiar with your vehicle’s audio
system, you can use it with less effort, as well as
take advantage of its features. While your vehicle
is parked, set up your audio system by presetting
your favorite radio stations, setting the tone and
adjusting the speakers. Then, when driving
conditions permit, you can tune to your favorite
stations using the presets and steering wheel
controls if the vehicle has them.

This system provides you with a far greater
access to audio stations and song listings.
Giving extended attention to entertainment
tasks while driving can cause a crash and
you or others can be injured or killed.
Always keep your eyes on the road and
your mind on the drive — avoid engaging
in extended searching while driving.
Keeping your mind on the drive is important for
safe driving. Here are some ways in which you can
help avoid distraction while driving.
While your vehicle is parked:
Familiarize yourself with all of its controls.
Familiarize yourself with its operation.
Set up your audio system by presetting your
favorite radio stations, setting the tone, and
adjusting the speakers. Then, when driving
conditions permit, you can tune to your favorite
radio stations using the presets and steering
wheel controls if the vehicle has them.Notice:Before adding any sound equipment
to your vehicle, such as an audio system,
CD player, CB radio, mobile telephone,
or two-way radio, make sure that it can be
added by checking with your dealer/retailer.
Also, check federal rules covering mobile radio
and telephone units. If sound equipment can
be added, it is very important to do it properly.
Added sound equipment may interfere with
the operation of your vehicle’s engine, radio,
or other systems, and even damage them.
Your vehicle’s systems may interfere with
the operation of sound equipment that
has been added.
Your vehicle has a feature called Retained
Accessory Power (RAP). With RAP, the audio
system can be played even after the ignition
is turned off. SeeRetained Accessory Power
(RAP) on page 115for more information.

Storing a Radio Station as a Favorite
Drivers are encouraged to set up their radio station
favorites while the vehicle is parked. Tune to your
favorite stations using the presets, favorites button,
and steering wheel controls if the vehicle has this
feature. SeeDefensive Driving on page 226.
FAV (Favorites):A maximum of 36 stations
can be programmed as favorites using the
six pushbuttons positioned below the radio station
frequency labels and by using the radio favorites
page button (FAV button). Press the FAV button to
go through up to six pages of favorites, each having
six favorite stations available per page. Each page
of favorites can contain any combination of AM, FM,
or XM™ (if equipped) stations. To store a station as
a favorite, perform the following steps:
1. Tune to the desired radio station.
2. Press the FAV button to display the page
where you want the station stored.3. Press and hold one of the six pushbuttons
until a beep sounds. When that pushbutton
is pressed and released, the station that was
set, returns.
4. Repeat the steps for each pushbutton radio
station you want stored as a favorite.
The number of favorites pages can be setup using
the MENU button. To setup the number of
favorites pages, perform the following steps:
1. Press the MENU button to display the radio
setup menu.
2. Press the pushbutton located below the
FAV 1 through 6 label.
3. Select the desired number of favorites pages
by pressing the pushbutton located below the
displayed page numbers.
4. Press the FAV button, or let the menu time out,
to return to the original main radio screen
showing the radio station frequency labels
and to begin the process of programming
your favorites for the chosen amount of
numbered pages.

Theft-Deterrent Feature
THEFTLOCK®is designed to discourage
theft of your vehicle’s radio. The feature works
automatically by learning a portion of the
Vehicle Identication Number (VIN). If the radio
is moved to a different vehicle, it does not
operate and LOCK or LOCKED displays.
With THEFTLOCK
®activated, the radio does
not operate if stolen.
Audio Steering Wheel Controls
Radio controls are
located on the right side
of the steering wheel.
If your vehicle has this
feature, some audio
controls can be adjusted
at this location. They
include the following:
wx:Press the upwor downxarrow to go to
the previous or to the next stored radio station
and stay there. Press and hold the up
wor
down
xarrow longer than three-quarters of a
second to advance to the previous or to the next
station with a strong signal in the selected band.
When a CD is playing, press the up
wor
down
xarrow to go to the previous or to the next
track. Press and hold the up
wor downxarrow
longer than three-quarters of a second to continue
reversing back or advancing ahead, to other tracks
within the disc.
+−(Volume):Press the + (plus) or−(minus)
button to increase or to decrease the volume.
g(Mute/Voice Activation):Press thegbutton
to silence the system. Press the
gbutton again
to turn the sound on. If your vehicle is equipped
with OnStar
®, press and hold thegbutton for
two seconds to activate voice on the OnStar®

Let us say the road is wet and you are driving
safely. Suddenly, an animal jumps out in front of
you. You slam on the brakes and continue braking.
Here is what happens with ABS:
A computer senses that wheels are slowing down.
If one of the wheels is about to stop rolling,
the computer will separately work the brakes at
each wheel.ABS can change the brake pressure faster than
any driver could. The computer is programmed
to make the most of available tire and road
conditions. This can help you steer around the
obstacle while braking hard.
As you brake, the computer keeps receiving
updates on wheel speed and controls braking
pressure accordingly.

Remember: ABS does not change the time you
need to get your foot up to the brake pedal or
always decrease stopping distance. If you get too
close to the vehicle in front of you, you will not have
time to apply the brakes if that vehicle suddenly
slows or stops. Always leave enough room up
ahead to stop, even though you have ABS.
Using ABS
Do not pump the brakes. Just hold the brake
pedal down rmly and let anti-lock work for you.
You might feel a slight brake pedal pulsation
or notice some noise, but this is normal.
Braking in Emergencies
At some time, nearly every driver gets into a
situation that requires hard braking.
If you have ABS, you can steer and brake at the
same time. However, if you do not have ABS,
your rst reaction — to hit the brake pedal
hard and hold it down — might be the wrong
thing to do. Your wheels can stop rolling.Once they do, the vehicle cannot respond to your
steering. Momentum will carry it in whatever
direction it was headed when the wheels stopped
rolling. That could be off the road, into the very
thing you were trying to avoid, or into traffic.
If you do not have ABS, use a “squeeze” braking
technique. This will give you maximum braking
while maintaining steering control. You can do this
by pushing on the brake pedal with steadily
increasing pressure.
In an emergency, you will probably want to
squeeze the brakes hard without locking the
wheels. If you hear or feel the wheels sliding,
ease off the brake pedal. This will help you retain
steering control. If you do have ABS, it is different.

In many emergencies, steering can help you
more than even the very best braking.
