If the transmission is in gear and/ormoving more than 5 km/h (3 mph),
the 4m,AUTO,or2mindicator light
will flash for 30 seconds but will notcomplete the shift. With the vehiclemoving less than 5 km/h (3 mph),and the transmission in N (Neutral),attempt the shift again.
Shifting Into N (Neutral)
To s h i f t :
1. Park the vehicle on a levelsurface.
2. Set the parking brake andpress and hold the brakepedal. SeeParkingBrake0254.
3. Start the vehicle or turn theignition to ON/RUN.
4. Shift the transmission toN(Neutral).
5. Shift the transfer case to 2m.
6. Turn the transfer case knobclockwise to N (Neutral) until itstops and hold it there until theN(Neutral) light starts blinking.This will take at least10 seconds. Then slowly
release the knob to the 4n
position. The N (Neutral) lightwill come on when the transfercase shift to N (Neutral) iscomplete.
7. With the engine running, verifythat the transfer case is inN(Neutral) by shifting thetransmission to R (Reverse),then shift the transmission toD(Drive). There should be nomovement of the vehicle whileshifting the transmission.
8. Turn the engine off, and theignition to ACC/ACCESSORY.
9. Place the transmission shiftlever in P (Park). SeeRecreational VehicleTo w i n g0351.
10. Turn the ignition to LOCK/OFF.
Shifting Out of N (Neutral)
To s h i f t :
1. Set the parking brake andapply the brake pedal.
2. Turn the ignition to ON/RUNwith the engine off.
3. Shift the transmission toN(Neutral).
4. Turn the transfer case knob tothe desired setting.
After the transfer case hasshifted out of N (Neutral), theN(Neutral) light will goout.
5. Release the parking brake.
6. Start the engine and shift thetransmission to thedesired gear.

Checking Coolant
The vehicle must be on a levelsurface when checking the coolantlevel.
Check to see if coolant is visible inthe coolant surge tank. If the coolantinside the coolant surge tank isboiling, do not do anything else untilit cools down.
If coolant is visible but the coolantlevel is not at or above the markpointed to, add a 50/50 mixture ofclean, drinkable water andDEX-COOL coolant.
Be sure the cooling system is coolbefore this is done.
If no coolant is visible in the coolantsurge tank, add coolant as follows:

Steam and scalding liquids from a
hot cooling system can blow out
and burn you badly. Never turn
the cap when the cooling system,
including the surge tank pressure
cap, is hot. Wait for the cooling
system and surge tank pressure
cap to cool.
The coolant surge tank pressurecap can be removed when thecooling system, including the surgetank pressure cap and upperradiator hose, is no longer hot.
1. Turn the pressure cap slowlycounterclockwise. If a hiss isheard, wait for that to stop.Ahissmeansthereisstillsome pressure left.
2. Keep turning the cap andremove it.

Headlamp
1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the headlamp bulbcover by turning itcounterclockwise.
3. Turn the bulb socketcounterclockwise to remove itfrom the headlamp assemblyand pull it straight out.
4. Unplug the electrical connectorfrom the old bulb by releasingthe clip on the bulb socket.
Turn Signal/Sidemarker/
Parking Lamp
1. Open the hood.
2. Turn the bulb socketcounterclockwise to remove itfrom the headlamp assemblyand pull it straight out.
3. Remove the bulb by pulling itstraight out of the bulb socket.
Taillamps, Turn Signal,
Stoplamps, and Back-Up
Lamps
1. Open the tailgate.
2. Remove the two rear lampassembly screws.
3. Pull the rear lamp assemblyoutboard away from the boxside until the retainers release.There will be a noise when theretainers release.

4. Pull the rear lamp assemblystraight back to remove it fromthe vehicle.
5. Turn the bulb socketcounterclockwise.
6. Pull the bulb straight out fromthe socket.
7. Replace the bulb, then insertthe bulb socket into the rearlamp assembly and turnclockwise.
9. Verify the retainer ring is in theproper position. If the retainerring is out of position, it will notengage. Reset the retainer bypulling it forward with a tool.
10. Push the rear lamp assemblystraight in until it is seatedagainst the vehicle.
11 . M a k e s u r e t h e r e a r l a m passembly is flush with thebox side.
12. Reinstall the two rear lampassembly screws.

Electrical System
Overload
The vehicle has fuses to protectagainst an electrical systemoverload. Fuses also protect powerdevices in the vehicle.
Replace a bad fuse with a new oneof the identical size and rating.
If there is a problem on the road andafuseneedstobereplaced,thereis a fuse puller in the EngineCompartment Fuse Block. Replacethe fuse as soon as possible withone of the same amperage rating.
Headlamp Wiring
An electrical overload may causethe lamps to go on and off, or insome cases to remain off. Have theheadlamp wiring checked right awayif the lamps go on and off orremain off.

Tire Changing
Removing the Spare Tire and
Tools
Crew Cab
To a c c e s s a n d r e m o v e t h e j a c k a n dtools:
1. Lift the rear seat to access thetool bag.
2. Remove the straps to removethe tool bag.
3. Fold the rear seat to accessthe jack.
4. Turn the knob on the jack (2)counterclockwise to lower thejack head to release the jackfrom its holder.
5. Turn the wing nut (1)counterclockwise to remove thejack and wheel blocks.
Extended Cab

1. Pull the bottom of the jackcover (1) forward to remove it.
2. Pull the lower access pocketforward and then upward toremove the tool bag cover (2).

3. Turn the knob on the jack (1)counterclockwise to lower thejack head to release the jackfrom its holder.
4. Turn the wing nut (2)counterclockwise to remove thejack and wheel blocks.
5. Turn the wing nut (3)counterclockwise to remove thetool bag.
Use the jack handle extensions andthe wheel wrench to remove theunderbody-mounted spare tire.

1. Open the spare tire lock coveron the bumper.
Insert the ignition key, turn, andpull straight out to remove thespare tire lock (8), if equipped.

3. Insert the hoist end (openend) (10) of the extensionthrough the hole (9) in the rearbumper.

Do not use the chiseled end ofthe wheel wrench.
Be sure the hoist end of theextension (10) connects to thehoist shaft. The ribbed squareend of the extension is used tolower the spare tire.
4. Turn the wheel wrenchcounterclockwise to lower thespare tire to the ground.Continue to turn the wheelwrench until the spare tire canbe pulled out from under thevehicle.
5. Pull the spare tire out fromunder the vehicle.
6. Tilt the tire toward the vehiclewith some slack in the cable toaccess the tire/wheel retainer.
Tilt the retainer and pull itthrough the center of the wheelalong with the cable andspring.
7. Put the spare tire near theflat tire.
Removing the Flat Tire and
Installing the Spare Tire
Use the following pictures andinstructions to remove the flat tireand raise the vehicle.

1. Do a safety check beforeproceeding. SeeIf a Tire GoesFlat0336.
2. If the wheel has a center capthat covers the lug nuts, placethe chisel end of the wheelwrench in each of the slots inthe cap, and gently pry it out.

3. Use the wheel wrench and turnit counterclockwise to loosenthe wheel nuts. Do not removethe wheel nuts yet.
Front Position
4. Position the jack under thevehicle, as shown. If the flattire is on the front of thevehicle, position the jack on thedepression in the vehicle'sframe, behind the flat tire.
Rear Position
5. If the flat tire is on the rear,position the jack under the rearaxle about 5 cm (2 in) inboardof the shock absorber bracket.
Make sure that the jack head ispositioned so that the rear axleis resting securely between thegrooves that are on thejack head.

Getting under a vehicle when it is
lifted on a jack is dangerous.
If the vehicle slips off the jack,
you could be badly injured or
killed. Never get under a vehicle
when it is supported only by
ajack.
{Warning
Raising the vehicle with the jack
improperly positioned can
damage the vehicle and even
make the vehicle fall. To help
avoid personal injury and vehicle
damage, be sure to fit the jack lift
head into the proper location
before raising the vehicle.
6. Turn the wheel wrenchclockwise to raise the vehicle.Raise the vehicle far enoughoff the ground so there isenough room for the spare tireto fit under the wheel well.
7. Remove all the wheel nuts andtake off the flat tire.
{Warning
Rust or dirt on a wheel, or on the
parts to which it is fastened, can
make wheel nuts become loose
after time. The wheel could come
off and cause an accident. When
changing a wheel, remove any
rust or dirt from places where the
wheel attaches to the vehicle. In
an emergency, a cloth or a paper
towel can be used; however, use
ascraperorwirebrushlaterto
remove all rust or dirt.
8. Remove any rust or dirt fromthe wheel bolts, mountingsurfaces, and spare wheel.
9. Install the spare tire.
{Warning
Never use oil or grease on bolts
or nuts because the nuts might
come loose. The vehicle's wheel
could fall off, causing a crash.
10. Put the wheel nuts back onwith the rounded end of thenuts toward the wheel.
