Initial Drive
Information
This section provides a briefoverview about some of theimportant features that may or maynot be on your specific vehicle.

Stop/Start System
The vehicle may have a fuel savingstop/start system to shut off theengine and help conserve fuel.
When the brakes are applied andthe vehicle is at a complete stop,the engine may turn off. When thebrake pedal is released or theaccelerator pedal is pressed, theengine will restart. SeeStarting theEngine0227.
Remote Keyless Entry
(RKE) System
The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)transmitter may work up to 60 m(197 ft) away from the vehicle.
With Remote Start Shown
K:Press to unlock the driver dooror all doors, depending on thevehicle personalization setting.
Q:Press to lock all doors.
Lock and unlock feedback can bepersonalized.
X:Press twice quickly to open thetrunk.
7:Press and release one time toinitiate vehicle locator. Press andhold for at least three seconds tosound the panic alarm. Press againto cancel the panic alarm.

Remote Vehicle Start
If equipped, the engine can bestarted from outside of the vehicle.
Starting the Vehicle
1. Press and releaseQon the
RKE transmitter.
2. Immediately, press and hold/
for at least four seconds or untilthe turn signal lamps flash.
3. Start the vehicle normally afterentering.
When the vehicle starts, the parkinglamps will turn on.
For the hybrid vehicle, the enginewill only start if needed for warmingfunctions or high voltage batterycharging.

Mirror Adjustment
Interior Mirror
Adjust the rearview mirror for a clearview of the area behind yourvehicle.
Manual Rearview Mirror
If equipped, push the tab forward fordaytime use and pull it rearward fornighttime use to avoid glare of theheadlamps from behind.
Automatic Dimming RearviewMirror
If equipped, the mirror willautomatically reduce the glare of theheadlamps from behind. Thedimming feature comes on when thevehicle is started.

Exterior Mirrors

Adjustment

2. Move the steering wheel upor down.
3. Pull or push the steering wheelcloser or away from you.
4. Pull the lever up to lock thesteering wheel in place.
Do not adjust the steering wheelwhile driving.

Lane Change Alert (LCA)
If equipped, the LCA system is alane-changing aid that assistsdrivers with avoiding lane changecrashes that occur with movingvehicles in the side blind zone (orspot) areas or with vehicles rapidlyapproaching these areas frombehind. The LCA warning displaywill light up in the correspondingoutside side mirror and will flash ifthe turn signal is on. The Side BlindZone Alert (SBZA) system isincluded as part of the LCA system.

Rear Vision
Camera (RVC)
If equipped, RVC displays a view ofthe area behind the vehicle on theinfotainment display when thevehicle is shifted into R (Reverse) toaid with parking and low-speedbacking maneuvers.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert
(RCTA) System
If equipped, the RCTA system usesatrianglewithanarrowdisplayedon the RVC screen to warn of trafficbehind your vehicle that may crossyour vehicle's path while inR(Reverse). In addition, beeps willsound.

Parking Assist
If equipped, Front and Rear ParkingAssist (FRPA) uses sensors on thefront and rear bumpers to assistwith parking and avoiding objectsduring low-speed parkingmaneuvers. It operates at speedsless than 8 km/h (5 mph). Thesystem may display a warningtriangle on the RVC screen and agraphic on the instrument cluster toprovide the object distance. Inaddition, multiple beeps may occurif very close to an object.

Automatic Parking
Assist (APA)
If equipped, the APA system helpsto search for and maneuver thevehicle into parallel or perpendicularparking spots using automaticsteering, DIC displays, and beeps.When the vehicle speed is below

Power Outlets
The accessory power outlets can beused to plug in electrical equipment,such as a cell phone or MP3 player.
There are two accessory poweroutlets:

Hybrid Features
Hybrid Vehicle Operation
The hybrid vehicle combinesgasoline and electric propulsion todrive the vehicle. The gas enginewill automatically start to providepower. It will shut off to save fuel.The engine may remainrunning when:
.There is aggressive accelerationor climbing hills.
.Vehicle speed is greater than88 km/h (55 mph).
.The high voltage battery ischarging.
.The heater is being used.
The engine and transmission worktogether to provide the requiredpower at the highest efficiency. Thismay result in higher engine speeds.SeeDriving for Better FuelEconomy029.
High Voltage Safety
Information
{Warning
Exposure to high voltage can
cause shock, burns, and even
death. The high voltage
components in the vehicle can
only be serviced by technicians
with special training.
High voltage components are
identified by labels. Do not
remove, open, take apart,
or modify these components.
High voltage cable or wiring has
orange covering or labels. Do not
probe, tamper with, cut, or modify
high voltage cable or wiring.
This vehicle has a high voltagebattery and a standard 12-voltbattery.
If the vehicle is in a crash, thesensing system may shut down thehigh voltage system. When thisoccurs, the high voltage battery isdisconnected and the vehicle will
not start. The SERVICE VEHICLESOON message in the DriverInformation Center (DIC) will bedisplayed. Before the vehicle can beoperated again, it must be servicedat your dealer.
{Warning
Damage to the high voltage
battery or high voltage system
can create a risk of electric shock,
overheating, or fire.
If the vehicle is damaged from a
moderate to severe crash, flood,
fire, or other event, the vehicle
should be inspected as soon as
possible. Until the vehicle has
been inspected, store it outside at
least 15 m (50 ft) from any
structure or anything that can
burn. Ventilate the vehicle by
opening a window or a door.

Remote Left In Vehicle Alert
When the vehicle is turned off and aremote is left in the vehicle, the hornwill chirp three times after all doorsare closed. To turn on or off seeVehicle Personalization0147.
Remote No Longer In Vehicle Alert
If the vehicle is on, with a dooropen, and then all doors are closed,the vehicle will check for an RKEtransmitter(s) inside. If an RKEtransmitter is not detected, the DICwill display NO REMOTEDETECTED and the horn will chirpthree times.
This occurs only once each time thevehicle is driven. SeeVehiclePersonalization0147
Keyless Trunk Opening
Press the touch pad on the rear ofthe trunk to open it if the RKEtransmitter is within 1 m (3 ft) of thetrunk.
Keyed Access

Programming Transmitters to
the Vehicle
Only RKE transmitters programmedto the vehicle will work. If atransmitter is lost or stolen, areplacement can be purchased andprogrammed through your dealer.The vehicle can be reprogrammedso that lost or stolen transmitters nolonger work. Any remainingtransmitters will need to bereprogrammed. Each vehicle canhave up to eight transmittersmatched to it.
Programming with RecognizedTransmitters
Anewtransmittercanbeprogrammed to the vehicle whenthere are two recognizedtransmitters. To program, the vehiclemust be off and all of thetransmitters, both currentlyrecognized and new, must bewith you.
1. Place the two recognizedtransmitter(s) in the transmitterpocket with the buttons facingthe rear of the vehicle. Thetransmitter pocket is inside thecenter console storage area.
2. Remove the key lock cylindercap on the driver door handle.SeeDoor Locks040.Insertthe vehicle key of the newtransmitter into the key lockcylinder on the outside of thedriver door and turn the keycounterclockwise five timeswithin 10 seconds.
The Driver Information Center(DIC) displays READY FORREMOTE #2, 3, 4 or 5.

3. Place the new transmitter intothe transmitter pocket with thebuttons facing the rear of thevehicle.
4. Press ENGINE START/STOP.When the transmitter islearned, the DIC will show thatit is ready to program the nexttransmitter.
5. Remove the transmitter fromthe transmitter pocket and
pressKorQ.
To p r o g r a m a d d i t i o n a ltransmitters, repeat Steps 3–5.
When all additional transmittersare programmed, press andhold ENGINE START/STOP for12 seconds to exitprogramming mode.
6. Put the key back into thetransmitter.
Programming without RecognizedTransmitters
If two currently recognizedtransmitters are not available, followthis procedure to program up toeight transmitters. This feature isnot available in Canada. Thisprocedure will take approximately30 minutes to complete. The vehiclemust be off and all of thetransmitters to be programmed mustbe with you.
1. Remove the key lock cylindercap on the driver door handle.SeeDoor Locks040.Insertthe vehicle key of thetransmitter into the key lockcylinder on the outside of thedriver door and turn the keycounterclockwise five timeswithin 10 seconds.
The Driver Information Center(DIC) displays REMOTELEARN PENDING,PLEASE WAIT.
2. Wait for 10 minutes until theDIC displays PRESS ENGINESTART BUTTON TO LEARNand then press ENGINESTART/STOP.
The DIC displays will againshow REMOTE LEARNPENDING, PLEASE WAIT.
3. Repeat Step 2 two additionaltimes. After the third time, allpreviously known transmitterswill no longer work with thevehicle. Remaining transmitterscan be relearned during thenext steps.
The DIC display should nowshow READY FOR REMOTE#1.

Conditions in Which Remote StartWill Not Work
The remote vehicle start feature willnot operate if:
.Atransmitterisinthevehicle.
.The hood is not closed.
.The hazard warning flashersare on.
.The malfunction indicator lampis on.
.The engine coolant temperatureis too high.
.The oil pressure is low.
.Tw o r e m o t e v e h i c l e s t a r t s , o r asingle remote start with anextension, have alreadybeen used.
.The vehicle is not in P (Park).
Door Locks
{Warning
Unlocked doors can be
dangerous.
.Passengers, especiallychildren, can easily openthe doors and fall out of amoving vehicle. The doorscan be unlocked andopened while the vehicle ismoving. The chance ofbeing thrown out of thevehicle in a crash isincreased if the doors arenot locked. So, allpassengers should wearsafety belts properly and thedoors should be lockedwhenever the vehicle isdriven.
.Yo u n g c h i l d r e n w h o g e t i n t ounlocked vehicles may beunable to get out. A childcan be overcome byextreme heat and can sufferpermanent injuries or even

death from heat stroke.Always lock the vehiclewhenever leaving it.
.Outsiders can easily enterthrough an unlocked doorwhen you slow down or stopthe vehicle. Locking thedoors can help prevent thisfrom happening.

Disarming the Alarm System
Do one of the following to disarmthe alarm system or turn off thealarm if it has been activated:
.PressKon the RKE transmitter.
.Unlock the vehicle using theKeyless Access system,if equipped.
.Start the vehicle.
To a v o i d s e t t i n g o f f t h e a l a r m b yaccident:
.Lock the vehicle after alloccupants have left the vehicleand all doors are closed.
.Always unlock a door with theRKE transmitter or use theKeyless Access system,if equipped.
Unlocking the driver door with thekey will not disarm the system orturn off the alarm.
How to Detect a Tamper
Condition
IfKis pressed on the RKE
transmitter and the horn chirps andthe lights flash three times, an alarmoccurred previously while the alarmsystem was armed.
If the alarm has been activated, amessage will appear on the DIC.SeeSecurity Messages0145.
Immobilizer

Immobilizer Operation
This vehicle has a passivetheft-deterrent system.
The system does not have to bemanually armed or disarmed.
The vehicle is automaticallyimmobilized when the transmitterleaves the vehicle.
The immobilization system isdisarmed when the ignition button ispushed in and a valid transmitter isin the vehicle.
The security light on the instrumentcluster comes on when there is aproblem with arming or disarmingthe theft-deterrent system.
The system has one or moretransmitters matched to animmobilizer control unit in thevehicle. Only a correctly matchedtransmitter will start the vehicle.If the transmitter is ever damaged,you may not be able to start yourvehicle.
When trying to start the vehicle, thesecurity light comes on briefly whenthe ignition is turned on.
If the vehicle does not start and thesecurity light stays on, there is aproblem with the system. Turn thevehicle off and try again.
If the RKE transmitter appears to beundamaged, try another transmitter,or place the transmitter in thetransmitter pocket. See“Starting the

If the vehicle does not start with theother transmitter or when thetransmitter is in the transmitterpocket, the vehicle needs service.See your dealer who can servicethe theft-deterrent system and haveanewtransmitterprogrammedtothe vehicle.
Do not leave the transmitter ordevice that disarms or deactivatesthe theft-deterrent system in thevehicle.
Exterior Mirrors
Convex Mirrors
{Warning
Aconvexmirrorcanmakethings,
like other vehicles, look farther
away than they really are. If you
cut too sharply into the right lane,
you could hit a vehicle on the
right. Check the inside mirror or
glance over your shoulder before
changing lanes.
The passenger side mirror is convexshaped. A convex mirror's surface iscurved so more can be seen fromthe driver seat.
Power Mirrors

To l o w e r t h e h e a d r e s t r a i n t , p r e s sthe button, located on the top of theseatback, and push the headrestraint down. Try to move thehead restraint after the button isreleased to make sure that it islocked in place.
Rear outboard head restraints arenot removable.
Front Seats
Seat Adjustment
{Warning

vehicle if you try to adjust a driver
seat while the vehicle is moving.
Adjust the driver seat only when
the vehicle is not moving.
To a d j u s t a m a n u a l s e a t :
1. Pull the handle at the front ofthe seat.
2. Slide the seat to the desiredposition and release thehandle.
3. Try to move the seat back andforth to be sure it is locked inplace.
Manual Seat Height Adjuster
Move the lever on the outboard sideof the seat up or down to manuallyadjust the seat height.
