3-38 Backglass Antenna
Your AM-FM antenna is integrated with your rear
window defogger, located in the rear window. Be sure
that the inside surface of the rear window is not
scratched and that the lines on the glass are not
damaged. If the inside surface is damaged, it could
interfere with radio reception.
NOTICE:
Do not try to clear frost or other material from
the inside of the rear window with a razor blade
or anything else that is sharp. This may damage
the rear defogger grid and affect your radio's
ability to pick up stations clearly. The repairs
wouldn't be covered by your warranty.
Because this antenna is built into your rear window,
there is a reduced risk of damage caused by car washes
and vandals.If you choose to add a cellular telephone to your vehicle,
and the antenna needs to be attached to the glass, be sure
that you do not damage the grid lines for the AM
-FM
antenna. There is enough space between the lines to
attach a cellular telephone antenna without interfering
with radio reception.
Vehicle Customization Settings
Your audio system can be used to control vehicle
customization settings using the DISP button when the
radio is off. See ªVehicle Customization Settingsº in
the Index.
Chime Level Adjustment
The radio is the vehicle chime producer. To change the
volume level, press and hold pushbutton six with the
ignition on and the radio power off. The chime volume
level will change from the normal level to loud, and
LOUD will be displayed on the radio. To change back
to the default or normal setting, press and hold the
pushbutton six again. The chime level will change
from the loud level to normal, and NORMAL will be
displayed. Each time the chime volume is changed,
three chimes will sound as an example of the new volume
selected. Removing the radio and not replacing it with a
factory radio or chime module will disable vehicle chimes.

6-17 Engine Oil Additives
Don't add anything to your oil. The recommended oils
with the starburst symbol are all you will need for good
performance and engine protection.
When to Change Engine Oil
Your vehicle has a computer that lets you know when to
change your engine oil. This is not based on mileage,
but on engine revolutions and engine operating
temperature. When the computer has calculated that the
oil needs changing, the GM Oil Life System
will
indicate that a change is necessary. The mileage between
oil and filter changes will vary depending on how you
drive your vehicle
-- usually between 3,000 miles
(5 000 km) and 7,500 miles (12 500 km) since your
last oil and filter change. Under severe conditions, the
system may come on before 3,000 miles (5 000 km).
Never drive your vehicle more than 7,500 miles
(12 500 km) or 12 months (whichever occurs first)
without an oil change.
The system won't detect dust in the oil. So, if you drive
in a dusty area, be sure to change your oil and filter
every 3,000 miles (5 000 km) or sooner. Remember to
reset the Oil Life Indicator whenever the oil is changed.How to Reset the Oil Life Indicator
After changing the engine oil, the system must be
reset. To reset the indicator, use one of the
following procedures:
Using the RDS Radio
1. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON, with the radio off.
2. Press and hold the DISP button on the radio for at
least five seconds until SETTINGS is displayed.
3. Press the SEEK up or down arrows to scroll through
the main menu.
4. Scroll until OIL LIFE appears on the display.
5. Press the PREV or NEXT buttons to enter the
submenu. RESET will be displayed.
6. Press the DISP button to reset. A chime will be heard
to verify the new setting and DONE will be
displayed for one second.
7. Once the indicator has been reset, scroll until EXIT
appears on the display.
8. Press the DISP button to exit programming. A chime
will be heard to verify the exit.

6-29 How to Check Power Steering Fluid
Turn the key off, let the engine compartment cool down,
wipe the cap and the top of the reservoir clean, then
unscrew the cap and wipe the dipstick with a clean rag.
Replace the cap and completely tighten it. Then remove
the cap again and look at the fluid level on the dipstick.
When the 3400 V6 engine compartment is hot, the level
should be at the ªHº mark. When it's cold, the level
should be at the ªCº mark. If the fluid is at the ADD
mark, you should add fluid.
For the 3800 V6 engine, the level should be at the HOT
mark when the engine compartment is hot. If the fluid is
at the ADD mark, you should add fluid.
What to Use
To determine what kind of fluid to use, see
ªRecommended Fluids and Lubricantsº in the Index.
Always use the proper fluid. Failure to use the proper
fluid can cause leaks and damage hoses and seals.
Windshield Washer Fluid
What to Use
When you need windshield washer fluid, be sure to read
the manufacturer's instructions before use. If you will be
operating your vehicle in an area where the temperature
may fall below freezing, use a fluid that has sufficient
protection against freezing.
Adding Washer Fluid
When this message is
displayed, it means the
vehicle is low on windshield
washer fluid. You should
add more windshield
washer fluid soon.

To reset (calibrate) the system: The tire inflation
monitor system can be reset by turning the exterior lamp
control from OFF to parking lamps three times while the
ignition is in ON. It can also be reset through ªVehicle
Customization Settings.º To reset the monitor using the
vehicle customization settings:
1. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON and turn the
radio off.
2. Press and hold the DISP button on the radio for at
least five seconds until SETTINGS is displayed.
3. Press the SEEK up or down arrow to scroll through
the main menu.
4. Scroll until TIRE MON appears on the display.
5. Press the PREV or NEXT button to enter the
submenu. RESET will be displayed.
6. Press the DISP button to reset. A chime will be heard
to verify the new setting and DONE will be
displayed for one second.
7. Once the monitor has been reset, scroll until EXIT
appears on the display.
8. Press the DISP button to exit programming. A chime
will be heard to verify exit.The system completes the calibration process
during driving.
The system normally takes 15 to 20 minutes of driving
in each of three speed ranges to ªlearnº tire pressures.
The speed ranges are 15 to 40 mph (25 to 65 km/h),
40 to 65 mph (65 to 105 km/h) and above 65 mph
(105 km/h). When learning is complete, the system will
alert you after 2
-8 minutes if a tire is 12 psi (83 kPa)
different from the other three tires. Detection thresholds
may be higher and detection times may be longer on
rough roads, curves and at high speeds. The system
is not capable of detection at speeds greater than
70 mph (110 km/h).
