Anti-skid regulation (ASR) and
electronic stability programme
(ESP)

t o p r e v e n t s k i d d i n g o f t h e w h e e l s , b y
acting on the brakes of the driving
wheels and on the engine.
T h e e l e c t r o n i c s t a b i l i t y p r o g r a m m e a c t s
o n t h e b r a k e o f o n e o r m o r e w h e e l s a n d
on the engine to keep the vehicle on the
t r a j e c t o r y r e q u i r e d b y t h e d r i v e r , w i t h i n
t h e l i m i t s o f t h e l a w s o f p h y s i c s .
Activation
T h e s e s y s t e m s a r e a c t i v a t e d a u t o m a t i -
c a l l y e a c h t i m e t h e v e h i c l e i s s t a r t e d .

I n e x c e p t i o n a l c o n d i t i o n s ( s t a r t i n g a
v e h i c l e w h i c h i s b o g g e d d o w n , s t u c k
i n s n o w , o n s o f t g r o u n d . . . ) , i t m a y b e
advisable to deactivate the ASR and
E S P s y s t e m s , s o t h a t t h e w h e e l s c a n
m o v e f r e e l y a n d r e g a i n g r i p .
Press the "ESP OFF" b u t t o n , l o c a t e d
on the left below the steering wheel.
I f t h i s w a r n i n g l a m p c o m e s o n i n
t h e i n s t r u m e n t p a n e l a n d t h e i n -
d i c a t o r l a m p o n t h e b u t t o n c o m e s
o n , t h i s i n d i c a t e s t h a t t h e A S R a n d
E S P s y s t e m s a r e d e a c t i v a t e d .
Reactivation
T h e s e s y s t e m s a r e r e a c t i v a t e d a u t o m a t -
i c a l l y e a c h t i m e t h e i g n i t i o n i s s w i t c h e d
b a c k o n o r f r o m 3 0 m p h ( 5 0 k m / h ) .

high speed.

AIRBAGS
The airbags do not operate
when the ignition is switched
off.

T h e d r i v e r ' s a i r b a g i s i n c o r p o r a t e d i n
the centre of the steering wheel; the
f r o n t p a s s e n g e r ' s a i r b a g i s i n c o r p o r a t e d
in the dashboard above the glove box.
Activation

I f a c o l l i s i o n o c c u r s , t h e e l e c t r o n i c d e -
tectors record and analyse the front and
s i d e i m p a c t s s u s t a i n e d i n t h e i m p a c t
d e t e c t i o n z o n e s :
- i n t h e c a s e o f a s e r i o u s i m p a c t , t h e
airbags are triggered instantly and
p r o t e c t t h e o c c u p a n t s o f t h e v e h i c l e
( w i t h t h e e x c e p t i o n o f t h e r e a r c e n t r e
p a s s e n g e r ) ; i m m e d i a t e l y a f t e r t h e
i m p a c t , t h e a i r b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y
so that they do not hinder visibility
o r t h e e x i t o f t h e o c c u p a n t s ,
- i n t h e c a s e o f a m i n o r o r r e a r i m p a c t o r i n c e r t a i n r o l l - o v e r c o n d i t i o n s , t h e
airbags will not be triggered; the
s e a t b e l t a l o n e i s s u f fi c i e n t t o p r o -
v i d e o p t i m u m p r o t e c t i o n i n t h e s e
s i t u a t i o n s .

DRIVING
SPEED LIMITER
System which prevents the vehicle from
e x c e e d i n g t h e s p e e d p r o g r a m m e d b y
the driver.
When the programmed speed limit is
reached, pressing the accelerator pedal
in the normal manner no longer has any
effect.
The speed limiter is switched on man-
ually: it requires a programmed speed
o f a t l e a s t 2 0 m p h ( 3 0 k m / h ) .
The speed limiter is switched off by
manual operation of the control.
The programmed speed can be
e x c e e d e d t e m p o r a r i l y b y p r e s s i n g t h e
a c c e l e r a t o r fi r m l y .
To return to the programmed speed,
simply slow down to a speed below the
programmed speed.
The programmed speed remains in the
memory when the ignition is switched
off.
The speed limiter cannot, in any
circumstances, replace the need
to respect speed limits, nor can
it replace the need for vigilance
and responsibility on the part of

DRIVING
The cruise control cannot, in any
circumstances, replace the need
to respect speed limits, nor can
it replace the need for vigilance
and responsibility on the part of
the driver.
CRUISE CONTROL
System which automatically maintains
the speed of the vehicle at the value
programmed by the driver, without any
action on the accelerator pedal.
The cruise control is switched on
manually: it requires a minimum vehicle
s p e e d o f 2 5 m p h ( 4 0 k m / h ) , a s w e l l a s
the engagement of:
- f o u r t h g e a r o n a m a n u a l g e a r b o x ,
- second gear on an automatic gear- b o x , i n s e q u e n t i a l m o d e ,
- position D o n a n a u t o m a t i c g e a r b o x .
The cruise control is switched off man-
ually or by pressing the brake or clutch
pedal or on triggering of the ESP sys-
tem for safety reasons.
I t i s p o s s i b l e t o e x c e e d t h e p r o g r a m m e d
speed temporarily by pressing the ac-
celerator pedal.
To return to the programmed speed,
simply release the accelerator pedal.
Switching off the ignition cancels any
programmed speed value. The controls of this system are grouped
